Milwaukee (PRWEB) February 26, 2010

TeraMedica Healthcare Technology, a leading medical informatics company, has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Medical Insight to complete the revolutionary Evercore® – Clinical Enterprise Suite software by adding easy to deploy diagnostic capability across the healthcare enterprise.

Evercore®, TeraMedica’s flagship product, can manage up to 85 percent of a healthcare provider’s clinical data, regardless of the size of the facility, and is used by leading providers across the U. S., including Mayo Clinic, MD Anderson Cancer Center of the University of Texas, and University of California Davis.

“This partnership enhances our Univision Zero Download Enterprise Web viewer by providing an enterprise scale fully featured clinical diagnostic viewer, delivering a single pane of glass and a unique and collaborative clinical approach, delivering a comprehensive enterprise view of clinical care,” said Jim Prekop, president and chief executive officer of TeraMedica. “Through this relationship, we are reinforcing our commitment to improving patient care, reducing healthcare costs and strengthening physician acceptance in the new patient-centered electronic medical record domain.”

The strategic agreement allows Medical Insight to reach a new audience in the United States.

“At Medical Insight, we see this relationship with TeraMedica as key to our U. S. market entry strategy,” said Andy Dobbs, co-founder of Medical Insight.

The Evercore® software platform allows healthcare providers to consolidate information in the form of a vendor neutral architecture with seamless links to Electronic Health Records (EHR), Health Imaging and Information Exchanges (HIEs) increasing efficiency and allowing healthcare personnel access to decades of information in one click, which is an invaluable feature in case of a medical emergency.

“As with all facets of TeraMedica, this partnership has been created due to customer and market demand,” Prekop said. “The goal is to create an environment for healthcare practitioners to work more efficiently across providers and deliver true interoperability. Together we deliver a clinician-friendly multi-disciplinary care record that supports all clinical specialties and offers a complete solution for collaborative care.”

TeraMedica was awarded a patent for Evercore® last September, and continues to provide efficient solutions and improvements to clinical data management enterprise-wide.

Stoltenberg Consulting, Inc., one of the healthcare industry's leading information technology consulting firms, today announced the formation of its Soarian Users Group.

The initial focus of the users group, located at www. soarianusers. com, will be a user post and answer discussion board providing access to experts within the Soarian community. The users group will serve as a mechanism to disseminate upcoming events, start and continue discussions, share documentation and act as a repository for past presentations and discussions. Acting as the Soarian community's tool to use, develop and grow, the users group includes discussion forums, document libraries and photo albums with more functionality planned as needs of the group expand.

"I asked Stoltenberg to assist with the setup of the users group because several hospitals on the list serve expressed a desire to have a means of direct communication via a conference call," explained Clay Bozard, Director of Technology Integration for Catholic Health Systems in Buffalo, NY. "Stoltenberg was the logical choice to develop the group with us because of our existing partnership, the quality of their work and their ability to think outside of the box to overcome gaps between current functionality and desired results."

Bozard approached Stoltenberg after several hospitals identified the need for a forum to discuss lessons learned and share ideas to streamline implementing, maintaining and enhancing various components of Siemens' Soarian information technology solutions. After this sentiment was resoundingly supported at the Soarian Users Group inaugural dinner at Disney's California Grill during HIMSS '08, Stoltenberg decided to act.

Women of America, Feel Yourself - Self-exam Cream Helps to Boost Breast Cancer Awareness and Self-exams

Women of America, Feel Yourself - Self-exam Cream Helps to Boost Breast Cancer Awareness and Self-exams

Have you been feeling your breasts? Hundreds of thousands of women across the country are feeling their breasts this October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast self examinations are important because it is a critical step in detecting breast cancer early, when it is more easily treatable. In an effort to encourage women to perform their monthly breast self-exams, Dermapeutics has created a new Breast Self Exam Cream.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 10, 2008

Have you been feeling your breasts? Hundreds of thousands of women across the country are feeling their breasts this October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast self examinations are important because it is a critical step in detecting breast cancer early, when it is more easily treatable.

For many women this can be an uncomfortable experience, they forget or just don't know how or what to look for. In an effort to encourage women to perform their monthly breast self-exams, Dermapeutics has created a new Breast Self Exam Cream.

It increases your ability to feel subtle changes and potentially dangerous "lumps" in breast tissue, and acts as a reminder to perform the exam on a regular basis.

Each year it is estimated that nearly 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die. While yearly mammograms are great at detection and can find signs of the disease in women without symptoms, examining your own breasts monthly is an important way to find breast cancer early. Being familiar with the "normal" condition of the breasts can alert women to changes and abnormalities that may go undetected by a mammogram. Early detection is proven to improve the chances that breast cancer can be diagnosed and can lead to simpler and more effective treatment.

I come from a family of women, and having a grandmother that has survived breast cancer, I know it is important to take care of my health. Even with a history of breast cancer in my family I don't always remember to do my exam, or feel all that comfortable doing it. Becoming familiar with your breasts, at first, seems laughable. We want to believe that cancer can't happen to us, that we are young, that we are healthy, and that it is something to worry about later, and hopefully never. The reality is that breast cancer can happen to any woman, at any age. This is why breast self-exams are important, this is why for the month of October and for every month after we must get in the habit of "feeling" ourselves.

Breast self-exams are often performed in the shower, or while lying on your back but using slippery soap or oil can be irritating to the sensitive skin of their breasts. Dermapeutics president Joan Pressman took note of these reasons for why women sometimes skip this important step in the defense against breast cancer and decided to counter it positively. "It is truly important that women would continue to be proactive in conducting BSEs regularly in comfort and with greater confidence," Joan Pressman said.

The Breast Self Exam Cream contains soothing aloe, which will not inflame or irritate the skin. The cream can be used safely as a skin moisturizer as well, with cucumber, avocado oil, lavender, chamomile, and green tea, a self exam turns into a pampering session instead of a monthly chore. The cream is available at www. bsecream. com. So throughout the month of October and every month after, Women of America… Feel Yourself.

Healthy Heart and Fertility for Valentine's Day? 'Eat More Vegan Food' Says London Nutritionist

Healthy Heart and Fertility for Valentine's Day? 'Eat More Vegan Food' Says London Nutritionist

Leading London Nutritionist says vegan food is now healthier than ever following a nutrition shake up and healthy eating innovations in time for valentines day 2006.

(PRWEB) February 8, 2006

London Nutritionist and author Yvonne Bishop-Weston strongly criticised the vegetarian food manufacturing industry and caterers last year for producing vegetarian and vegan foods that could do more harm than good.

At a series of meetings such as The Food and Drink Federation's Vegetarian and Vegan meat free manufacturers group she told the industry that the hydrogenated trans fats had to go.

"The public perception of vegetarian food was that it was far healthier than the meat dishes but often vegetarian options were laden with cheese and hydrogenated fat and healthiness just wasn't the reality" says Yvonne.

"In my clinics around London I often see the problems related to too much highly processed saturated fat in the diet and not enough essential fats such as omega 3 and 6. Essential fats are called essential for good reasonl, they are essential for the optimum health of nearly all bodily functions particularly brain, heart and fertility"

It seems the industry has listened and there has been widespread re formulating and relabelling of vegetarian and vegan products.

Heart stopping, artery clogging recipes for vegan sausages and the notorious vegan pork pies have been revised and hydrogenated fat has been substituted with more natural forms of oil.

Meanwhile Yvonne worked with speciality UK vegan food manufacturer Plamil to produce a sugar free dairy free chocolate with shelled hempseeds for a unique and delicious source of essential fats.

Great news for vegan valentines and the nations' heart health and fertility for this Valentines Day.

MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ARE HARMED AND KILLED BY UNFIT PARENTS

MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ARE HARMED AND KILLED BY UNFIT PARENTS

To fight the overweight and obesity epidemics, Michael Applebaum, MD has developed Fit to Parent tm, the first fitness lifestyle program that prepares parents and parents-to-be to raise healthy children, even before their children are born.

CHICAGO, IL (PRWEB) October 31, 2003 -

According to the CDC, a majority of adults of reproductive age are unfit, i. e., overweight or obese. Studies prove that the Number One predictor of childhood weight problems is parental unfitness. If one parent is unfit, a child has a 40% chance of developing weight problems and if both parents are unfit, a child has an 80-90% chance of developing weight problems.

In 2000, there were 4.059 million births in the United States. The CDC expects one in three children to become diabetic during their lifetime from being unfit. Diabetes is only one problem. There are other physical and mental illnesses that harm or kill the children of unfit parents. Health officials agree that “behavioral factors (physical activity and diet) are modifiable and logical targets for intervention.”

Dr Michael Applebaum, a Chicago-based physician, fitness expert, author and consultant introduces the first parental fitness program targeted at improving a child’s health even, in some cases, before they are born. Michael Applebaum, MD has developed Fit to Parent tm, a unique lifestyle program for parents and parents-to-be that prepares them to raise healthy children. According to Dr. Applebaum, “Unlike any other initiative directed at saving children from the devastating effects of being overweight or obese, Fit to Parent tm enhances the home lives of parents to be and parents of children age 3 and younger. Fit to Parent tm teaches adults how to improve their lifestyles in preparation for raising healthy children and in doing so, improve their own health and relationships.”

Fit to Parent tm is taught by Dr. Applebaum, in-person or as a distance-learning course. For more information on Fit to Parent tm and Dr. Applebaum, visit www. FitnessMed. com, www. FitToParent. com, or www. Dr. Applebaum. com or call (312) 337-0732.

Interactive InDesign CS5:Designing for Interactivity with InDesign, Mira Rubin; Professional Web Video: Plan, Produce, Distribute, Promote and Monetize Quality Video, Richard Harrington & Mark Weiser

Burlington, MA (Vocus) November 15, 2010

The move from print to the web and from the static web to the interactive web has been fast and furious. No sooner did we gain and master a digital platform for one-way communication then web-interactivity offered two-way communication with our customers and stakeholders. Two new books by Focal Press experts offer communications professionals guides to putting cutting-edge interactive tools to work.

From creating interactive PDFs to full-fledged Flash sites, the expanded capabilities of InDesign now make it possible to design projects that go beyond print into the world of Web and interactive. Adobe expert Mira Rubin brings her teachings skills and design wizardry to bear in Interactive InDesign CS5, the first book of its kind expressly devoted to the interactive capabilities of InDesign CS5 and its use in creating documents destined for output to interactive PDF and Flash SWF.

Print and web designers know that another essential element of any modern web communications program is video that effectively presents their message with the high quality that audiences expect. In Professional Web Video, digital video expert and a business professional Richard Harrington gives soup-to-nuts information on how to produce web video and, most importantly, how to use it effectively. Taken together, Interactive InDesign CS5 and Professional Web Video provide web and print designers the step-by-step, fully illustrated instructions they need to reach a new level of audience interactivity and maximize their Web presence.

Mira Rubin has worked as a full-time Adobe certified instructor since 2000 and has owned and operated Mira Images (http://www. miraimages. com), an Adobe authorized training center, since 2003. As an instructor, her focus is on delivering real-world skills with an emphasis on efficiency and best practices. That focus is apparent on every page of Interactive InDesign CS5, which functions as both a reference book, with sections broken out by topic, and a training guide, with real-world exercises provided for each chapter on a forthcoming companion Web site (http://www. interactive-indesign. com) so readers can learn by doing and keep abreast of continuing developments. Interactive InDesign CS5 also contains:
450+ lavish illustrations to engage the reader with step-by-step instruction and challenging exercises  Power-user tips, productivity tools and best techniques peppered throughout  An entire section dedicated to best practices for successful output to interactive PDF, Flash SWF and Flash Professional, with how-to's for using Acrobat and Flash Professional to extend the InDesign-generated files  A Type and Layout section making this an indispensible guide on the InDesign-to-interactive workflow

Interactive InDesign CS5 is just one of Focal Press’s answers to the question, “How do I make the most effective interactive Web site?” Another is Professional Web Video: Plan, Produce, Distribute, Promote and Monetize Quality Video. As Web designers and communication professionals rush to populate their Web sites with video, they realize that quality video is not as easy as the camera salesmen portrayed it: Professional Web Video explains how to do it right so readers can add professional-level video to their Web communications toolbox with a complete understanding of the process, potential, and limitations.

Author Rich Harrington is a member of the Photoshop Professionals Instructor Dream Team and owner of the visual communications consultancy, RHED Pixel. Both Harrington and his co-author Mark Weiser have extensive experience as videographers and producers and know how to maximize budgets, locations, and production opportunities. They put their combined know-how to work in Professional Web Video using 500+ full color, engaging illustrations to show a professional team executing every facet of the job and a forthcoming companion web site (http://www. HyperSyndicate. com) featuring planning and production templates, demo files, and blog updates.

More than a guide to the proper tools and buttons to push, Professional Web Video tells Web and communications professionals what video can (and cannot) accomplish, and how to manage a production so that it fulfills the established communication objectives. It is an accessible guide to the technology that is application agnostic; it presents a tried-and-true process without bias toward specific tools. Planning documents, production benchmarks, and distribution options are all presented in a way that are useful to the communications professional--whether they are producing the video themselves or overseeing a vendor.

EVENT THEME

Medicine, healthcare and rehabilitation industries are taking advantage of a range of technological developments and devices and equipment are increasingly using the mechatronics philosophy.

Examples of these developments include:

Robotic support for surgery. Surgical training systems. Patient monitoring systems, including mobile systems such as fall sensors. Diagnostic tools such as the ‘swallowable’ endoscope and the diagnostic toilet. Patient support systems based around a ‘Design for All’ strategy. Home based systems or ‘domotics’. Telemedicine systems.

Intelligent rehabilitation systems Assistive technologies including enhanced wheelchairs and user aids. Drug management and control.

The coming years are likely to see increasing developments in these areas as has been recognised by the Royal Commission on Long Term Care whose report emphasised the need to make more use of technology in care provision while the Audit Commission has recently commented that the ‘treatment effect’ associated with assistive technologies was such that had this been achieved by a drug then "…. would have resulted in the drug receiving a higher priority in the NHS and being widely prescribed."

It is therefore considered timely to bring together experts in these and related fields for a one-day seminar for the benefit of wider audience consisting of researchers, industrialists and medical professionals.

EVENT SCOPE

The Seminar will look at various areas, these include:

What are the key areas for development? How might the work of the technologists and healthcare professionals be better integrated? What are the challenges facing the integration of technologies in future healthcare provision? How should the change in the care profile resulting from the introduction of care technologies be managed? How are the views of the users to be established and represented?

Houston-Based KelseyCare Advantage Plan Again Receives Top Rating from Medicare

KelseyCare Advantage Plan's five-star member service helps provide comfort for Houston-area Medicare patients as the health care landscape experiences significant changes in 2011.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) November 3, 2010

With so many sweeping and often confusing health care changes taking place, there is comforting and consistent news for Houston-area Medicare beneficiaries. KelseyCare Advantage has earned Medicare’s highest member satisfaction rating for the second consecutive year, a key quality indicator for Medicare beneficiaries who may be reviewing their health plans in advance of the open enrollment season which begins on Nov. 15.

According to the annual Consumer Assessment of Health Care Providers and Systems (CAHPS) survey released by Medicare, KelseyCare Advantage is one of the highest-rated Medicare Advantage plans in the Houston area.

“With so much confusion surrounding health care today, we’re thrilled that our KelseyCare Advantage plan received the highest possible rating for member satisfaction. Coupled with the high marks it received from our members for excellence in physician communication and health plan quality, we know our members feel they are receiving outstanding quality care that is of good value,” said Marnie Matheny, President of KelseyCare Advantage.

The survey awards one to five stars (five being the best) in a number of areas, including customer service, health care quality and health outcomes, as well as physician communication. For the second year in a row, KelseyCare Advantage has earned a five-star rating in health plan quality, according to the annual Medicare CAHPS survey.

KelseyCare Advantage also received a five-star rating in each of the following categories:
Doctors who communicate well  Access to primary care physicians  Customer service  Overall rating of health care quality  Overall rating of plan for responsiveness and care  Screenings for breast cancer, colorectal cancer, osteoporosis, cardiovascular care and diabetes care  Vaccines for flu and pneumonia  Member experience with the drug plan Member satisfaction survey results are published in the 2011 Medicare & You handbook. KelseyCare Advantage is a Medicare Advantage plan offered through a contract with the federal government to provide all of the health care coverage a customer is entitled to under Medicare, and more. When beneficiaries choose KelseyCare Advantage, they receive all of their Medicare benefits, including drug coverage, at less cost than comparable Medicare supplements.

Chester County First Responders Get Valuable Training Help 3 Local Hospitals Provide Start-up Funding For Web-Based Training of Emergency Personnel

Chester County First Responders Get Valuable Training Help 3 Local Hospitals Provide Start-up Funding For Web-Based Training of Emergency Personnel

Homeland Security and emergency preparedness in Chester County, Pennsylvania, moves to a higher level Friday, thanks to three local hospitals who have joined financial resources to sponsor a special, Web-based training program developed by a national firm, MC Strategies, Inc., based in Atlanta, Georgia. Brandywine Hospital, Jennersville Regional Hospital, and Pottstown Memorial Hospital are providing funding for the customization of Web-enabled training lessons to educate county emergency responders.

Coatesville, PA (PRWEB) May 26, 2004 -

– Homeland Security and emergency preparedness in Chester County, Pennsylvania, moves to a higher level Friday, thanks to three local hospitals who have joined financial resources to sponsor a special, Web-based training program developed by a national firm, MC Strategies, Inc., based in Atlanta, Georgia. Brandywine Hospital, Jennersville Regional Hospital, and Pottstown Memorial Hospital are providing funding for the customization of Web-enabled training lessons to educate county emergency responders.

Effective coordination of emergency response personnel in the event of a major unusual disaster is a challenging responsibility. Any natural disaster can impact many people in the community, and all communities need to plan for such inevitabilities. Man-made disasters can be even more devastating. Preparedness and community specific training at the local level has been shown to reduce the impact of disasters on the community and its citizens.

Brandywine Hospital CEO Don Henderson said “We recognize the need for increased training in all-hazards emergency preparedness. Terrorism incidents have heightened the need for emergency responders to be knowledgeable about a new generation of threats. This program provides individual lessons that will be used to train fire, police, ambulance personnel, county workers, school teachers, and hospital staff in critical local procedures important to protect the safety of our community.

“We are especially pleased to be able to help provide this critical tool for improving readiness and safety for the people of Chester County,” Henderson said. “The combination of the three hospitals enables us to generate enormous benefits for Chester County citizens by giving emergency responders the ability to update, build and reinforce their skills. Our local emergency responders have embraced the support and are working hard to rapidly bring this initiative into action. By making short lessons available through the Web, 24-hours-a-day, first responders can easily access the knowledge they need to prepare for all types of community disasters as prioritized in the County Emergency Operations Plan.”

MC Strategies’ community preparedness training division, known as USA Prepare, is developing the lessons based on local emergency procedures and protocols and maintaining Web sites for each fire company, police department, ambulance company, school and all eight hospitals in the Chester-Montgomery Emergency Hospital Safety Zone. Custom and “best practice” lessons have been prepared in hundreds of subjects, including Combating Terrorism, Safety Protocols for Hazards, Tactical Operations for Dealing with Crime and Terrorism, Hazardous Materials and Weapons of Mass Destruction.

USA Prepare successfully initiated the same type of project in Gordon County Georgia, but this is the largest project the company has undertaken. “We have received excellent cooperation from emergency preparedness personnel in Chester County,” said Dr. Tim Boone, Managing Director of USA Prepare. This is a major project for us and represents a model that we hope to launch in other counties across the United States.”

Dr. Boone said “This project is funded by three local hospitals, who saw the need for increased training and who agreed to provide the necessary funding to develop the 230 Web sites, and hundreds of Web-based lessons, to support the various organizations providing the emergency infrastructure in Chester County. The commitment by Brandywine Hospital, Jennersville Regional Hospital and Pottstown Memorial Hospital is enormous.”

Three fire companies, four police departments, two ambulance companies, two School Districts, as well as Brandywine Hospital, are piloting the Web-based learning platform and the training lessons. Full implementation of all Chester County emergency responders is planned over the next several months.

Brandywine Hospital, conveniently located on Route 30 between Downingtown and Coatesville, Pennsylvania, is an acute care medical facility that has provided a full continuum of care to the community for over 100 years. Known for its ability to treat emergency and cardiac patients, the hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

Benefits of Web-Based Training

• Reaching large numbers of geographically dispersed learners is feasible and cost-effective.

• Assessment and testing for adoption and retention are automated.

• Many personnel complete much of their required training without leaving their workstations.

• Lengthy training sessions are replaced with a series of 15-minute training breaks.

• To make training convenient to all personnel, online training is available 24/7, from anywhere they can access the Internet.

• Training is consistently delivered. Delivery format and utilization history are recorded.

• Adult learning is made more effective because it’s interactive and constantly requires learner involvement.

• Giving the learner control over the learning process increases participation and training effectiveness.

• Web-based content can be constantly monitored and updated. Because training content is constantly changing, it’s impossible to constantly hold training sessions to cover new material.

• Personnel training needs vary from one position to the next, one department to the next, by agency, by state.

• Online training is easily customized.

• Record keeping and training status data are available in real time.

HYDRIVE Energy Drink, the Official Energy Drink of Speed Daters, Offers Valentine's Day Dating Tips: Speed daters choose HYDRIVE's low sugar/no jitters formula in order to gain a competitive edge

HYDRIVE Energy Drink, the Official Energy Drink of Speed Daters, Offers Valentine's Day Dating Tips: Speed daters choose HYDRIVE's low sugar/no jitters formula in order to gain a competitive edge

Forget motocross, ultimate fighting, paintball and extreme skiing. What today's young consumer really needs energy for is...SPEED DATING. Energy is a must for any kind of dating, but in the fast-paced world of speed dating, it makes the critical difference between going home a winner and going home alone. That's why America's best speed daters choose Hydrive, preferring its great taste, low sugar and high potency energy blend that never leaves them jittery. After all, having that creepy wired look doesn't help when being selected for future consideration. Speed dating was invented 10 years ago and is growing enormously in popularity as it meets the needs of the whirlwind lifestyle of today's singles. TV shows like "Sex in the City" and movies like "The 40 Year Old Virgin" have helped make speed dating a cultural phenomenon. In fact, speed dating sites like HYDRIVE's advertising, sponsorship and event partner, Cupid. com, have been booming.

RYE, N. Y. (PRWEB) February 13, 2008

Consumer research conducted by the HYDRIVE Energy Drink Company indicates that the only thing that men between the ages of 20 and 29 do more of than look for dates is consume energy drinks. In fact the average young male drinks 6.3 energy drinks per week. In honor of Valentines Day and in recognition of how much energy you need to be a world class dater, HYDRIVE is happy to present nine very useful dating tips for guys who want to be successful in the dating scene.

1. Never walk away from an ugly date, run at full speed.

2. Don't judge a book by its cover. However, if your date shows up wearing skin tight purple velour pants and a bedazzled "Foxy Boxing" t-shirt...judge away.

3. No matter how into hip-hop you might be, when you first greet your date, don't shout, "Yo, your butt be bangin'!"

4. You'll never have a second chance to make a first impression. So lose the fedora.

NBA Star Dwight Howard Launches Unique Micro-Giving Challenge for Haiti on Pinkdingo. com

Orlando Magic center and philanthropist Dwight Howard launched a Personal Challenge on Pinkdingo. com today to raise money to help children affected by the catastrophic earthquake that devastated Haiti in January of this year. In a 'call to action' effort to get lots of people working together to make small contributions to the cause, 2 donors to the Dwight Howard Fund Challenge will get a $500 Adidas shopping spree with Dwight himself, and the minimum donation is just $2.99.

Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) April 15, 2010

The Dwight Howard Fund (DHF) was launched Tuesday evening at The Kerosene Lamp Foundation Gala (KLF) in Orlando, FL. KLF was founded by Orlando Magic teammate and fellow humanitarian Adonal Foyle with the mission of empowering youth in challenging and impoverished situations to grow into healthy community leaders.

Dwight Howard made an initial investment of $100,000 in the fund, but is launching the campaign to help the children of Haiti with a very unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and call to action to his fans: Each $2.99 donation to the Challenge is a chance to win a $500 Adidas shopping spree with Dwight himself. Additionally, to help bring this campaign viral, the individual who recruits the most donors to give to this Challenge will also win the same experience, even if each recruit gives as little as $2.99.

“Dwight’s goal with this Challenge is to engage lots of people in giving and helping, even in very small amounts, to show the power of real teamwork” said Shiyana Valentine, Executive Director of the Kerosene Lamp Foundation and Dwight Howard Fund. “Launching this Challenge on the Pinkdingo. com platform was a natural fit because their site makes it very easy to bring lots of people together to give socially, and you can really see the collective impact. They do a good job of really making an event out of the fundraiser.”

The Dwight Howard Challenge on Pinkdingo will run through May 13th. To see the Challenge or for more information, visit: http://pinkdingo. com/dhf (http://pinkdingo. com/dhf)

The 250th anniversary of Guinness (http://www. guinnessgearonline. com/catalogue-174-1/Guinness. html) is being celebrated on Sept. 24, 2009. Guinness originated in 1759. There will be celebrations all over the world including St. James' Gate Dublin, many local pubs, and at GuinnessGearOnline. com with anniversary products, Guinness clothing (http://www. guinnessgearonline. com/catalogue-174-1/Guinness. html), and free shipping.

GuinnessGearOnline is North America’s only distributor for Guinness merchandise direct from Ireland. It has a large selection of Guinness t-shirts (http://www. guinnessgearonline. com/catalogue-174-1/Guinness. html) for men and women, Guinness rugby shirts (http://www. guinnessgearonline. com/catalogue-174-192-1/Men. html), barware, and food. In celebration of the anniversary, they are currently offering a variety of Guinness 250th Anniversary (http://www. guinnessgearonline. com/catalogue-174-283-1/Guinness-250th-Anniversary. html) men's and women's shirts, glassware, signage and more. Owner Rauncie Kinnaird says "many home owners are developing their bar area into private pubs. Guinness bar accessories (http://www. guinnessgearonline. com/catalogue-174-194-1/Barware. html) from signage, glasses, pouring spoons, and much more help create the pub atmosphere." She says the bottle opener hats (http://www. guinnessgearonline. com/catalogue-174-233-281-1/Guinness-Ball-and-Fitted-Hats. html) and stylish shirts have been very popular in-store. Demand for product lead to the online store dedicated to Guinness themed merchandise.

There will be various celebrations all over the world beginning at 17:59 on September 24, 2009 in Dublin Ireland. You can celebrate the 250th anniversary of Guinness with these trivia facts and show your Genius at the pub:

1. 2009 is the 250th Anniversary of Guinness.

2. St James' Gate was not the original site for the brewery. Arthur Guinness began brewing beer in Leixlip, a town in County Kildare.

3. In 1759 he moved to an empty St. James’ Gate Brewery, Dublin, Ireland.

4. The St. James’ Gate Brewery was leased by Arthur Guinness for 9000 years at an annual fee of 45 GBP, or $65 USD! This lease INCLUDED fresh water rights. The fresh water rights caused problems with the Dublin Corporation, who wanted to charge Guinness a levy. This created quite a stir, and production was halted for a brief time while labourers blocked the water supply to the brewery. In the end, Guinness kept their fresh water rights as outlined in his lease.

5. Ten years later, in 1769, Guinness exported six and one half barrels of beer to England, their first exportation.

6. By 2001 almost 2 billion pints of Guinness a year were sold world wide.

7. Over the years, much slang has come about when ordering a pint of Guinness and here a few ways you can order one for yourself!
“Arthur G”   “Pint of black stuff”    “Arthur Scargill”   “Pint of plain”

8. Did you know? Contrary to popular beliefs, Guinness does not contain oatmeal!

9. Guinness exports were banned from 1944-1947.

10. Guinness is the best selling drink in Ireland.

11. Guinness is brewed in more than 150 countries worldwide.

12. 40% of all Guinness sales are in Africa.

13. Over 10 million glasses of Guinness are sold every day, are you doing your share?

14. Currently all Guinness sold in the UK is produced at St. James' Gate.

15. Guinness will close breweries in Kilkenny and Dundalk in 2013. There was controversy in 2007 when discussion of closing the St. James' gate location arose. Guinness is staying put with renovations at the current location underway.

16. Renovations are estimated to cost $1 Billion USD.

17. “Guinness is Good For You” slogan is still used in many places worldwide. Some research does support Guinness has heart health benefits. Guinness now officially states they make no health claims.

18. Guinness contains only 198 calories per pint. That is less than most light beer, wine, OJ, or even light milk.

19. The perfect pour should take 119.50 seconds. It is a result of a double pour. The result a creamy head on a smooth dark beer served at 6 degrees Celsius.

DRASH Keeps Marathon Runners On Track

DRASH Keeps Marathon Runners On Track

Kaiser Permanente, the largest not-for-profit health plan in the United States, recently unveiled its new DRASH medical surge facility at the 2010 Pasadena Marathon in California.

Pasadena, CA (Vocus) March 22, 2010

Kaiser Permanente (https://www. kaiserpermanente. org/), the largest not-for-profit health plan in the United States, recently unveiled its new DRASH (http://www. reevesems. com/Products/Shelters/AboutDRASHShelters. aspx) medical surge facility at the 2010 Pasadena Marathon in California.

The facility – comprised of three 519 square foot DRASH MX5 Shelters and a 195 square foot DRASH 2XB Shelter – was used to treat more than 120 people.

Event medicine officials at Kaiser Permanente first became interested in purchasing a mobile surge facility more than five years ago as a way to treat patients directly onsite during sporting events, such as a marathon. After speaking with Kaiser Permanente Regional Emergency Preparedness Committee members it became clear that the health organization needed a system that was flexible enough to be used during any large-scale emergency situation.

“We originally requested a medical facility that we could use for sporting events, but as we began working with the director of Emergency Preparedness, it became obvious that we needed a facility that could be set up not only during a sporting event, but a large-scale emergency, such as an earthquake or other natural disaster, as well,” says Dr. Thad Hummel Woodward, Kaiser’s Regional Director of Event Medicine in Southern California.

Kaiser Permanente allocated the funding needed to purchase their medical surge facility following last year’s H1N1 outbreak. Though officials considered several shelter systems, they chose the nearly 1,700 square foot DRASH facility after learning of its flexible and mobile design.

“We spent a lot of time researching the different shelters out there, but we ultimately decided that DRASH best fit what we needed. The shelters are portable, easy to set up, flexible and durable,” says Woodward. “If these things are able to withstand conditions in Iraq and Afghanistan, we are sure they can handle anything we throw at them.”

With help from DRASH (http://www. reevesems. com/Products/Shelters/AboutDRASHShelters. aspx) Representative Ken Hall, Kaiser Permanente successfully deployed their new surge facility for the first time during last month’s marathon in Pasadena. Personnel used the system, which featured low and high acuity areas, an administrative center and check-in point, to treat runners for injuries sustained during the 26.2 mile race.

Officials at Kaiser Permanente (https://www. kaiserpermanente. org/) plan to continue to use their DRASH surge facility for events across southern California. Woodward says that sporting events, such as the Pasadena Marathon, will provide personnel with the training they’ll need should they ever have to respond to a real-life disaster.

“We plan on treating every event as a disaster training exercise for our staff. Each time we set these shelters up we’re going to evaluate what we can do better to ensure that, should a disaster ever occur, we’re ready,” he says.

The DRASH medical surge facility (http://www. reevesems. com/Products/Shelters/AboutDRASHShelters. aspx) will be set up at the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Triathlon later this year.

Vinegar Lovers Celebrate Vinegar Day: Folks Enjoy the Healing Powers of Vinegar 365 Days a Year

Vinegar Lovers Celebrate Vinegar Day: Folks Enjoy the Healing Powers of Vinegar 365 Days a Year

"The Vinegar Man" Lawrence Diggs heads the eighth annual International Vinegar Festival (an activity started by the "Community for the Advancement of Roslyn and Eden" in 2000) in Roslyn, a place that welcomes people worldwide to appreciate the vast virtues of vinegar.

Lake Tahoe, CA (PRWEB) June 13, 2007

Calendars are being marked because Saturday (June 16) is Vinegar Day -- at least in South Dakota. "The Vinegar Man" Lawrence Diggs (vinegar @ vinegarman. com) heads the eighth annual International Vinegar Festival (an activity started by the "Community for the Advancement of Roslyn and Eden" in 2000) in Roslyn, a place that welcomes people worldwide to appreciate the vast virtues of vinegar.

For those who can't whisk away to South Dakota for a day of "Soured Powered Fun for the Whole Family" packed with vinegar-related fun and festivities, they can still celebrate vinegar for their health's sake year-round, notes Cal Orey, author of The Healing Powers of Vinegar, Revised and Updated (Kensington, 2006).

According to the U. S. Census Bureau, at least 47 million Americans live with no health insurance in the richest country in the world. The Vinegar author says, "In the 21st century, preventive health care and natural remedies -- like apple cider vinegar, red wine vinegar, rice vinegar, and fruit-flavored vinegar -- can help people stay healthy for pennies a day and keep doctors away."

Orey adds, "If you can't afford skyrocketing health care costs, you can't afford not to use vinegar in your daily wholesome diet chock-full of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, olive oil and vinegar." Plus, in The Healing Powers of Vinegar, proven home cures may help you ward off summer woes such as insect and bee stings, sunburn, swimmers ear, toenail fungus, and weight gain which can lead to high blood pressure, out of whack cholesterol, and diabetes 2.

This will be the eighth "Vinegar Festival" on record, and Orey hopes it inspires folks around the world to celebrate vinegar. She says, "People in countries (such as China and Korea) around the globe reap the inexpensive health perks of versatile vinegar every day. You, too, can put the amazing powers of a practical, popular and potent elixir to work in your own backyard, whether it be California, Iowa or New York."

So what is the message in a bottle? "While the folk remedy is applauded on Vinegar Day," concludes Orey, "amazing vinegar can be used in every household 365 days a year for everyday folks (and companion animals) at any age."

About the Author
Cal Orey is an accomplished author and journalist. Her books include: "Doctors' Orders," "202 Pets' Peeves," "The Man Who Predicts Earthquakes," and The Healing Powers of Olive Oil" (Kensington, to be released February 2008).

Cal Orey (who is a vinegar convert) is an accomplished author and journalist. More information can be found on this book (and interviews can be scheduled) at www. calorey. com.

Ultrasonic Antifouling Protects Military Landing Craft

Ultrasonic Antifouling Protects Military Landing Craft

The UK Ministry of Defence has selected world-class Ultrasonic Antifouling technology to help maintain the performance of its LCVP MKIV landing craft. Ultrasonic Antifouling – the world's leading brand of electronic antifouling technology – has been chosen as an MoD supplier after a series of successful maritime tests.

(PRWEB) August 13, 2010

The UK Ministry of Defence has selected world-class Ultrasonic Antifouling technology to help maintain the performance of its LCVP MKIV landing craft.

Ultrasonic Antifouling – the world's leading brand of electronic antifouling (http://www. ultrasonic-antifouling. com/index. html) technology – has been chosen as an MoD supplier after a series of successful maritime tests.

Ultrasonic Antifouling (http://www. ultrasonic-antifouling. com/ultrasonic_antifouling_power_boats. html) uses electronic sound pulses to inhibit barnacle and algae growth on the underside of boats – maintaining maximum hull speeds and significantly cutting their fuel and maintenance costs.

Three LCVP MKIV landing craft were each fitted with three transducers, protecting not just their hulls but also their sizeable stern gear.

Earlier this year, the Australian Customs & Border Protection Service also installed Ultrasonic Antifouling technology on one of its vessels tasked to patrol the coast off the country's Northern Territory.

Ultrasonic Antifouling Ltd Director David Sothcott said: "We are very pleased that these organisations are using our products and have gained such success from them."

Ultrasonic Antifouling's proven technology is currently sold in more than 50 countries, helping sailing and motor boat owners to boost their vessels' performance while reducing costs.

The company will be demonstrating its technology on stand G004 at the UK’s Southampton Boat Show, September 10-19.

The antifoul (http://www. ultrasonic-antifouling. com/the_benefits_of_antifoul. html) benefits of the system include:
complete hull protection – boosting long-term performance  faster hull speeds throughout the entire season  lower fuel bills and fewer costly lift-outs  less hull-scraping, repainting and antifouling (http://www. ultrasonic-antifouling. com/future_of_antifouling. html) removal  one-time 'fit and forget' installation with no through-hull drilling.

Ultrasonic Antifouling protects the entire underwater hull area of a vessel, helping to keep stern gear, water intakes, bow thrusters, impellers and trim tabs free from barnacle and algae growth.

The highly respected Motor Boat & Yachting magazine has named Ultrasonic Antifouling (http://www. ultrasonic-antifouling. com/product_of_the_month. html) Product of the Month with a five-star MBY rating by following a long-term test on one of its vessels.

Ultrasonic's marine antifouling (http://www. ultrasonic-antifouling. com/how_does_it_work. html) system is very simple to fit and use:
Transducers are bonded to the inside of the hull with no through-hull holes needed. Detailed instructions make fitting easy.  A control box sends pulsed ultrasonic signals to the transducer(s) which emit low power sound waves that are virtually inaudible.  These high frequency sound waves create a wall of moving water molecules over the hull surface, killing algae and preventing barnacle growth.

While this sonic antifouling (http://www. ultrasonic-antifouling. com/sonic_antifouling. html) technology is new to the marine sector, it is well proven in stopping fouling on water intakes in lakes, ponds and reservoirs where its non-toxic qualities are essential. It has been used in this sector for at least 25 years.

Ultrasonic's antifoul (http://www. ultrasonic-antifouling. com/ultrasonic_antifouling_product_selector. html) technology comes in three models – the Ultra 10, the Ultra 20 and the Ultra Solar. Each comprises a control box connected to either one (Ultra 10) or two (Ultra 20) transducers, depending on boat size and type.

Ultrasonic Antifouling also offers a customised design service for more complex installations involving superyachts, trimarans and commercial vessels.

To manage the system even more effectively, Ultrasonic Antifouling has also added some clever technology; the new Ultra 10 Dual Voltage, the Ultra 20 Dual Voltage and the Ultra Solar.

Ultra Dual Voltage will automatically switch between different power supplies, choosing the best option; favouring 230v mains supply, thus preventing the unit from being accidentally switched off.

If you have a pontoon berth and your shore power cuts out for any reason, Ultra Dual Voltage will automatically switch to your boat's battery so the antifouling effect continues uninterrupted.

And when you return to your berth or the power is restored, the system will automatically switch back to shore power – making Ultrasonic Antifouling a 'fit and forget' no maintenance system.

If you don't have shore power or are on a swinging mooring, Ultrasonic Antifouling (http://www. ultrasonic-antifouling. com/ultra_solar. html) Ultra Solar allows you to reap the full benefits by controlling power between solar panels, the battery and the transducers.

Its intelligent solar unit keeps your battery healthy and provides the Ultrasonic Antifouling system with the correct amount of power (solar panel not supplied).

With tried and tested, non-toxic science, environmental credentials and clever technology, Ultrasonic Antifouling is a permanent fit-and-forget answer to hull contamination.

New lower prices (inc UK VAT) for the Ultrasonic Antifouling range
 Ultra 10 System, single transducer – £949  Ultra 20 System, twin transducers – £1,799  Ultra 10 Dual Voltage System, single transducer – £999  Ultra 20 Dual Voltage System, twin transducers – £1,899  Ultra 10 Solar – £1,499  Ultra 20 Solar – £2,349

For more information or to become a dealer, meet the Ultrasonic Antifouling team on stand G004 at the Southampton Boat Show, September 10-19, or contact Ultrasonic Antifouling Ltd, +44 (0)1202 606185.

Notes to Editors

Ultrasonic Antifouling is a revolutionary way to protect boats from fouling using high frequency, low power sound waves to destroy algae and prevent weed and barnacle growth. The system has been carefully researched and developed and is now being used with great success all over the world.
