Armchair Millionaire Community Bulletin: Live Better on Less

Armchair Millionaire Community Bulletin: Live Better on Less

More money doesnÂ’t necessarily translate into a higher quality of life. The life you lead has more to do with your priorities and choices than the size of your paycheck. For many of us, having the life we want might actually mean earning--and spending--less.

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 16, 2004

In our material world, it often seems that money really is more important now than when our grandparents were young. But there's a more important question here: What do you value most? For most of us, the answer is not houses or cars or stock portfolios, but our loved ones, our health and our peace of mind.

We can see this from the results of a recent poll conducted by the Center for a New American Dream, which found that a whopping 93 percent of respondents believe that too many Americans are focused on working and making money and not enough on family and community.

We certainly found agreement on this topic in the Armchair Millionaire community. Here are comments from several members:

"We are not on the right track in our approach to money because we've lost focus. Rather than viewing money as a tool (which it is,) we view money as measurement of self-worth (which it is not) and max out the credit cards until we're drowning in red ink and pointless possessions." --Don B.

"As a society, we've moved too far away from the value of time and of 'goods' in relation to money. We should value our time with family and friends way more than we currently do, and we should value our goods more--take care of them, fix them, clean them, patch them, mend them. We have become far too much of a disposable society." --RandyVT

"My grandmother's generation was happy with less Â… much less. I think that our current approach to money is obsessive and gets in the way of living. We need to evaluate the definition of 'comfortable.'"

--Cathy

The old cliché endures for a reason: Money really can't buy happiness. But in our consumer-oriented society, you do have to untangle money from happiness. My checklist will help you do just that.

The Armchair Millionaire's Checklist for a Higher Quality of Life on Less Money

Take back your time. If your employer is like most, it will take every single minute that you let it. Set a time to leave every day and stick with it. Refuse to work weekends. Turn down projects you don't have time to do. Even better, cut back on your hours all together. You'll earn less, but have more of what counts: time to live your life. And if you don't have an employer who believes that happy, healthy employees are the most productive, find one who does.

Shift your focus. What do we really need to survive? We need food (but not meals out every day), shelter (but not a starter mansion), clothing (but not designer labels) and transportation (but not the latest SUV). Most of us can have what we really need in life for a lot less than we are currently spending. By shifting your focus from material goods to the things that truly make life worthwhile--family, friends and community--you may find that you are richer than you ever believed.

Regain your balance. Spend real time with your kids. Re-acquaint yourself with your social network. Introduce yourself to your neighbors. Explore new places--done right, travel doesn't have to be expensive. Take time to nurture what's most important to you, whether that's your health and fitness, your spirituality, or a hobby.

THE BOTTOM LINE: More money doesnÂ’t necessarily translate into a higher quality of life. The life you lead has more to do with your priorities and choices than the size of your paycheck. For many of us, having the life we want might actually mean earning--and spending--less.

Imtran Selected For Two High Profile Government Technology Projects

The State of Hawaii and Maricopa County (Phoenix, AZ) save time and money by radically updating key information-gathering systems

Mstuhley@imtran. com

Lake Forest, CA (June 29, 2000) – Imtran, Inc. announced today that they have been chosen to automate key data collection systems for the State of Hawaii and Maricopa County (Phoenix, AZ). The two contracts represent a major expansion of Imtran’s projects outside of California.

State of Hawaii

Over 6 million people visit Hawaii each year. Every person coming from the U. S. fills out a visitor survey card on the airplane. These tourists make up a major part of HawaiiÂ’s economy (www. hawaii. gov). Measuring the impact of tourism on the stateÂ’s economy requires accurate and timely information such as the number of visitors, which islands they will visit, how much they spend, where they are from, how many are in their group, etc. These figures are widely reported in Hawaii every month as an indicator of economic health.

Imtran is providing a sophisticated image-based system that will scan visitor surveys and automatically place the information into a database with minimal manual intervention. Over 2 million surveys per year will scanned through the system.

The new system will allow the State of Hawaii to cut processing time in half and reduce the number of operations personnel. Another benefit is the addition of handprinted data collection fields to the forms for questions on spending amounts.

Maricopa County (Phoenix, AZ)

Maricopa is home to Phoenix and is Arizona’s largest county. The Trip Reduction Program (“TRP”) is mandated by the State of Arizona. The program’s goal is to improve the air quality by reducing commuting mileage for employers with 50 or more employees. Employers are required by law to fill out the forms on a periodic basis.

Maricopa CountyÂ’s Division of Trip Reduction (http://www. maricopa. gov/sbeap/trplwnvr. htm (http://www. maricopa. gov/sbeap/trplwnvr. htm)) administers this statute. They are responsible for distributing and processing 5,000 TRP surveys a day. The surveys provide the information necessary to monitor program compliance.

Imtran is combining the latest in imaging hardware, software and custom programming to scan the trip reduction surveys, place the data into the existing database and store the original images for later retrieval. The impetus for the new project was replacement of an existing eight year-old system that is no longer manufactured or supported.

The new system will allow Maricopa County to dramatically increase the number of forms processed in a single day. It will also save the County approximately $100,000 per year by reducing the number of data entry personnel required to operate the system.

Imtran

Imtran (www. imtran. com) specializes in using advanced technology to improve productivity for business, government and education organizations. Imtran is privately held and is one of the largest integrators of forms processing systems in the U. S. with Southern California offices in San Diego and Lake Forest.

Unique Alliance Energizes Condo Re-Sales

Unique Alliance Energizes Condo Re-Sales

A major property management company and real estate firm team up to change the way condo re-sales are marketed. The key is returning to original marketing materials developed for the initial offering.

Hawthorne, NY (PRWEB) June 1, 2006

Patricia Cunningham of Cunningham Realty Ltd. and John Lamorte of Westchester Property Management Group, Inc. have recently announced the formation of a business alliance to better serve buyers and sellers of condominium and HOA units in the region. The firms believe that selling condos in a changing market requires new strategies and techniques.

Cunningham notes that, “Developers invest a substantial amount of time, effort and money into marketing the entire complex even though they are selling individual units. When these same units are offered for re-sale, little attention is paid to marketing the complex itself. Tapping into the excitement of the original project presentation can provide benefits to both the buyer and the seller.”

Lamorte adds, “Assisting in the sales of units I manage is just smart business. The relationship residents already have with Westchester Property Management Group, Inc. will now extend to include assistance with selling the unit. This alliance simply helps me provide an additional service. It’s exciting to work with an agency which is redefining the entire condo marketing model.”

Recently one economist noted that although in just one month, the supply of single-family homes rose 5.5% and condos 16%, prices were essentially flat for both single family homes and condos. High inventory, flat prices, with softening prices to come. All indications of a healthy market going through normal changes. Such normal changes require adjustments.

Given these market trends, such adjustments will create sharper competition among sellers. In a market drifting towards the buyer’s side, greater effort and more dynamic marketing tools will be needed. Making use of marketing materials reminiscent of original project sales, Cunningham and Lamorte seek to capture some of the enthusiasm of the original marketing program. “People are buying not just a unit, but a community,” says Cunningham. “We intend to sell the complex as well as the unit.”

The seller benefits from a marketing strategy which makes his unit stand out from the pack and which takes full advantage of the common elements he has paid for over the years. The buyer benefits from knowing the management company that maintains the complex is also dedicated to serving him at resale time.
