Studies Show Doctors Rapidly Forget Critical, Life-Saving Skills such as CPR and Life Support

Studies Show Doctors Rapidly Forget Critical, Life-Saving Skills such as CPR and Life Support

Founded by Harvard Physicians, Medical Learning System’s next-generation education platform ensures medical students and professionals remember their training, saving lives in the process

Boston (PRWEB) January 18, 2010

“I feel like every time learn something new, I forget something else.” Such frustration – expressed by a second year medical student at the University of Michigan Medical School – is, unfortunately, shared by countless other medical students across the nation. This failure to retain knowledge is often ignored until it manifests as substandard patient care. An article in the March 2009 issue of the journal Resuscitation revealed that of a group of seventy trained pediatric residents, 66 percent failed to start CPR in a timely manner when faced with mannequin simulators requiring resuscitation. Strikingly, more years of training did not correlate with improved performance. Similarly, a June 1996 Journal of Trauma article showed that 50 percent of practicing trauma physicians failed a repeat Advanced Trauma Life Support examination merely six months after taking the course. Medical Learning System’s next-generation education platform, GunnerTraining. com, offers the first marketed solution to this problem.

GunnerTraining. com enables its users to not only master medical facts, but also maintain that mastery over their careers. This is achieved by leveraging the spacing effect, one of the primary underlying principles of memory. The spacing effect refers to the fact that humans and animals more easily remember or learn items in a list when they are studied a few times over a long period of time, rather than studied repeatedly in a short period of time. This principle has been successfully applied in medical education, having been recently vetted in three randomized, controlled trials at Harvard Medical School. The spacing effect is also an active area of research in neuroscience; in fact, its underlying mechanisms were recently identified, offering it much scientific credibility.

Dr. Frank Lau, M. D. – Founder of Medical Learning Systems – says that the overriding mission is to help medical professionals learn more efficiently and effectively, and remember their training throughout their careers. “Ultimately, this will improve patient care as health professionals use our algorithms to maintain knowledge that is critically important but infrequently used. For this reason, personalized knowledge management platforms like Gunner Training must play a large role in future medical education,” remarks Dr. Lau. Current users say GunnerTraining. com helps them remember what they learn, perform well in school, score higher on licensing exams, and spend less time relearning what they would otherwise forget. One user considers it “just perfect.” Although Gunner Training is currently targeted to first and second year medical students, the company is rapidly building new products to assist residents, attending physicians, and other health professionals seeking to perform well in school and on standardized examinations, and, more importantly, to provide exceptional medical care.

About Medical Learning Systems:

Founded by Harvard-trained physicians and based on cutting-edge learning and memory science, Medical Learning Systems provides personalized online education and exam preparation services to health professionals and students. Medical Learning System’s flagship product – Gunner Training (launched Q2 2009) – is already helping hundreds of students master Step 1 of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE).

'World's Ugliest Dog' Picture Contest Offers Prizes & Fun (updated)

'World's Ugliest Dog' Picture Contest Offers Prizes & Fun (updated)

DogExplorer. com announces start of "World's Ugliest Dog" Picture Contest. The new website's contest offers free entry, nice prizes and fun. Entrants are invited from around the world in this first truly global ugly dog competition designed to highlight the critical state of dog rescue and adoption.

Ventura County, California (PRWEB) October 6, 2005

DogExplorer. com is pleased to announce the "World's Ugliest Dog" Picture Contest, the first in a series of fun and friendly global dog and puppy photo competitions.

While DogExplorer. com knows there are no truly ugly dogs, some have a certain, um, well, kisser, that appeals most to their human mom's and dad's. Entering the contest, registering on the site, viewing and voting on the picture entrants are all completely free!

DogExplorer. com and its readers are waiting to see your beloved canine companions, so bring those hairy, bald, smushed, droopy, wet, sloppy, entirely lovable pooch faces our way. The winner, selected by votes entered by registered users on DogExplorer. com, gets a $25.00 gift certificate for pet supplies and a "Go Between" collapsible food & water bowl from sponsor Ruff Wear, For Dogs On The Go® ( www. ruffwear. com ).

And bragging rights to the title of "parents" of the "World's Ugliest Dog." Although they may want to keep that one to themselves. The launch of the website was inspired by a mixed breed dog adopted from a non-profit rescue. He proved to be an outstanding companion and friend. Several of the contestants are also rescues and their owners can attest to the joy they've brought into their lives. At a time when 3-4 million of the 6-8 million dogs which enter shelters each year do not come back out alive, the contest, and DogExplorer. com, want to emphasize through a little humor that looks are not everything, and that older, less photogenic dogs, certainly deserve a good home and oftentimes enrich their owner's lives in ways unimagined.

The contest is open to entrants from all countries and voting runs from October 6, 2005, through November 15, 2005. Complete contest rules are posted on DogExplorer. com ( http://www. DogExplorer. com (http://www. DogExplorer. com)).

Hurry and enter the contest, you may even win a little something for the furry person in your life.

About DogExplorer. com:

DogExplorer. com is the newest member of The Aeronautic Company's family of web properties.

DogExplorer. com was inspired by "Ansel," a rescue dog who lived with DogExplorer. com’s publisher from the time he was a puppy of eight weeks old until he was euthanized due to tragically failing health on September 16, 2005. He was fifteen. The core values of DogExplorer. com requires the site to do all it can to aid in the placement of dogs in adopted homes. To accomplish this goal, in part, DogExplorer. com donates dog picture gallery albums and discussion board forums to no-kill shelters, rescues, and adoption organizations.

Living and traveling with Ansel was an immensely enriching experience thanks to his intelligence, loyalty, love, devotion and companionship. His picture adorns the site's logo and there is a short video of him on the site as well.

DogExplorer. com is a fun and family friendly website created to provide resources and information about the care of the elderly dog, dog training, selecting and raising puppies, forums for discussions on every canine subject, our dog picture galleries where users can enter contests or simply view or share their pictures with others, and especially information on how and where to travel with dogs. DogExplorer. com – Exploring the world of dogs and puppies, offers everything but the dog breath!

Consona CRM and AMR Research Host Netcast Presenting Best Practices for Investing in Customer Service in Uncertain Economic Times

Consona CRM and AMR Research Host Netcast Presenting Best Practices for Investing in Customer Service in Uncertain Economic Times

Industry expert and leading CRM solution provider partner to offer practical advice on maintaining and prioritizing customer service initiatives.

Indianapolis, IN (Vocus) June 2, 2008

Consona CRM, a leading provider of total customer management solutions (http://www. consona. com/Consona/default. aspx? pagename=Press-Release-02/06/2008) for the enterprise, including Onyx® and KNOVA®,, today announced the availability of a netcast entitled, “Investing in Customer Service during Economic Uncertainty - Where to Place Your Bets.” The netcast features Rob Bois, research director of customer management strategies at AMR Research, and Tom Millay, general manager of Consona CRM, as they discuss how to avoid common pitfalls suffered during economic downturns, when technology initiatives often lose precedence to other corporate priorities.

During the economy’s slump in the early 2000s, many companies attempted to implement aggressive cost-cutting measures in an effort to retain sales or avoid severe measures such as layoffs. IT budgets were squeezed and many consumer-based industries shifted their investments away from a focus on customer relationship management. Lower-cost solutions were implemented in the short-term, such as interactive voice response (IVR), web self-service, and others.

In this netcast, Bois presents lessons learned and the top investments to consider for customer service stability and, even growth, amidst market uncertainty. Consona CRM’s Millay discusses how Consona CRM solutions (http://www. consona. com/crm) can help companies weather potential economic storms while not compromising their long-term business plans.

Key netcast learnings include:
What can be learned from past investment choices;  The top five investments to maintain customer service stability;  Smart service strategies using Consona CRM solutions; and  How to increase customer loyalty while reducing overall service investment.

“As a leader in the CRM community, Consona CRM is committed to educating our customers and the market at large on past experience and present technology that can aid in making the best, customer-focused decisions,” said Millay. “Even during uncertain economic times, companies can tighten up their budgets, while still keeping customer satisfaction at the core of their missions.”

The netcast is now available for viewing on the Onyx Web site. (http://www. onyx. com/forms/reg2.asp? FORM. NAME=2008Q2AMRNETCAST2&aic=916,934&sic=100535&tic=4765)

Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation's 16th Annual Fall Golf and Tennis Classic Raises Nearly $20,000

Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation's 16th Annual Fall Golf and Tennis Classic Raises Nearly $20,000

Nearly $200,000 was raised at the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation’s 16th annual Fall Golf and Tennis Classic on Monday, September 26th, at the Edgewood Country Club in River Vale, NJ. The proceeds from the event will support the Good Samaritan Regional Kidney Center in Suffern, NY. Presenting sponsor of the event was once again Union State Bank.

Bridgewater, NJ (PRWEB) October 7, 2005

Nearly $200,000 was raised at the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation’s 16th annual Fall Golf and Tennis Classic on Monday, September 26th, at the Edgewood Country Club in River Vale, NJ. The proceeds from the event will support the Good Samaritan Regional Kidney Center, a 10-station unit at Good Samaritan Hospital. Presenting sponsor of the event was once again Union State Bank, who continues to demonstrate its commitment to the community through efforts such as this.

The golf classic featured a fun-filled day beginning with a breakfast buffet at 9:30 a. m. Attendees participated in an elite 18-hole “shamble,” which was preceded by a putting contest. For those who preferred a hard court to the links, a tennis tournament was also offered. Lunch at the Midway for golfers was sponsored by the Hilton Woodcliff Lake.

The day concluded with an upscale cocktail reception, silent and live auction, and dinner. In addition, a raffle, which included a grand prize of a 7-day all-inclusive cruise for two to the Breezes Resort in the Bahamas, was offered on behalf of Active International. Winner of the grand prize was Neale Kuperman of Suffern, N. Y.

Other raffle prizes included a 3 day trip for two to Orlando, F. L., donated by Sea Gate Travel, won by Kathy Medici also of Suffern, N. Y.; and a $500 gift check from Union State Bank, won by Louis Siracusano of Rockleigh, N. J.

Making a guest appearance at the event was New York Giants Super Bowl XXI Champion Byron Hunt. He has been an active supporter of Good Samaritan Hospital’s Chemical Dependency Program fundraisers and volunteered the entire day at the Golf and Tennis Classic. Hunt was put to work as an auctioneer and led a contest on the course, where he was able to draw in over $2,000 in a “Beat the Pro” format.

"The generosity of all who participated, and the funds raised will ensure our patients continued quality care and treatment at the Regional Kidney Center,” said Christine Maraia, Executive Vice President of the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation. “We thank the many local corporations and organizations that showed their support of Good Samaritan Hospital and the Foundation by sponsoring this outing for yet another successful year.”

All funds raised through the Fall Classic will support the Regional Kidney Center of Good Samaritan Hospital. A 10-station unit, the Center provides ongoing hemodialysis and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis to patients who require kidney replacement therapies. Total computerization of the state-of-the-art facility provides complete on-line monitoring, calculations and tailoring of care for each patient - assuring adequacy of treatment. The funds raised through this outing will allow a continuation of the hospital's long tradition of compassionate, quality care for the people of the Greater Rockland County area at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Good Samaritan Hospital is part of the Bon Secours Charity Health System, which also includes St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick, NY and Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY.
