Small Dog Columnist Named For DigitalDog. com

Hope Saidel, co-owner of www. Gollygear. com, has been named Small Dog Columnist for the website www. DigitalDog. com.

Skokie, IL (PRWEB) February 13, 2006

Hope Saidel is now a columnist, specializing in small dogs, for www. DigitalDog. com. “Small dogs are more popular now than they ever have been,” says Saidel. “These little guys have different needs than their bigger counterparts and I’m very happy to share my experience, both good and bad, if it can help someone or answer some questions.” Saidel is co-owner of www. GollyGear. com, bricks-and-mortar and online small dog shop.

Over the last three-plus decades, Saidel has owned Boston Terriers, Brussels Griffons and a French Bulldog. She has trained and competed in AKC Obedience events and is on the board of directors of the North Shore Dog Training Club. “My background is in journalism,” Saidel says, “I’m delighted to combine two things I love – dogs and writing.” Before opening the shop, Saidel was managing editor of a weekly newspaper in suburban Chicago.

Saidel says that it was her difficulty finding suitable products for her little dogs that sparked the opening of www. GollyGear. com, the small dog boutique she now owns with her sister. “We couldn’t even find treats that we could use – most of them would be more than a meal for a little dog. We even resorted to making up recipes and baking for our dogs – and we don’t even bake for ourselves!” she said.

“I’m just so encouraged that small dogs are starting to be appreciated for what they are; real dogs who have dog needs – food, shelter, training, exercise and play. With the bonus of being really cute, portable and cuddly,” she laughs.

More seriously, Saidel noted that small dogs have particular needs that their owners should be aware of. “My column will focus on the things that make little dogs special. Some are good, some are terrific, and some are terrifying. I have the wonderful opportunity to talk about all of it.”

Saidel’s column on the website www. DigitalDog. com debuted in February with an introduction to the world of small dogs. Subsequent editions will include an overview of small dogs at the Westminster Dog Show, health concerns particular to small breeds, finding the right breed for the need, small dog safety and other ways of looking at life from shin-level.
