Today Grandparents. com kicked off a major national search for Today's Extraordinary Grandparents -- individuals who are active, involved and redefining what it means to be a grandparent. The search runs through the summer, with winners announced in time for Grandparent's Day on September 13, 2009. The National PTA will encourage parents and students to nominate the special person in their life who is truly making a difference. Through grassroots efforts and on-line initiatives, Grandparents. com will also take part in the search, accepting nominations on its website and by mail.

"We are combing the country to find and recognize those special grandparents who are doing extraordinary things with their grandkids," said grandparenting expert, Dr. Georgia Witkin, "individuals who are teaching younger generations about the legacy of service."
The National PTA will encourage parents and students to nominate the special person in their life who is truly making a difference. Through grassroots efforts and on-line initiatives, Grandparents. com will also take part in the search, accepting nominations on its website and by mail.
"As times change, the involvement of extended family members, including grandparents, becomes more and more important. That's why we are thrilled to be a part of this effort that celebrates the 70 million grandparents in this country," said Erin Hart, National PTA's Director of Strategic Alliances and Partnerships. "Through the award, we hope to recognize the important role that grandparents play in supporting their grandchild's education, health, and positive development."
