Savvier Health Launches An Online Med School for the Masses -- Masses of Patients, That Is

New online patient education and advocacy site teaches patients how to partner in their health care and lower their health care costs. Developed by an experienced physician, Patient School provides visitors with an abundance of skills and tools to help them become health-savvy consumers.

Columbia, MD (PRWEB) December 11, 2005

On December 22, 2005 Savvier Health will launch a revolutionary online patient empowerment Web site called PatientSchool. net to teach people how to partner in their health care while lowering their health care costs.

The astronomical cost of health care and its horror stories make headlines somewhere every day. According to the U. S. Census Bureau, 46 million Americans (1 in 7) lack health insurance and the number of uninsured Americans is climbing each year. The Institute of Medicine estimates that close to 18,000 Americans die each year simply because they lack this vital coverage.

While most Americans have been impacted in some way by these escalating costs, few feel empowered to tackle our complex health care system head on and win. This is not surprising. Doctors go to medical school to prepare them to be effective doctors, but patients have not had a ‘patient school’ to prepare them to be skillful patients.

Features of PatientSchool. net include:

Over 150 links to highly regarded patient information Web sites ranging from general patient education sites to sites offering information on end of life issues.  A newsstand with news feeds on 30 medical topics, allowing patients to keep up to date with the latest information regarding their medical conditions.  Free online mini-courses developed by an experienced physician to empower patients to optimize their health care and minimize their health costs  A Healthy Living section which promotes a healthful lifestyle with links to major preventive medicine Web sites  Links to Government health Web sites  Links to valuable online health tools  Healthcare quality assurance sites  Links to vital medication issues  Resources for the uninsured  A ‘Just For You’ section with pages focusing on topics of particular interest to women, men, seniors, children, and minorities  A ‘Member’s Only’ corner featuring chat rooms, blogs, and a ‘You’re the Doctor’ tickler where patients learn how to work through common medical cases and think the way doctors think  My Medical Journal, a detailed step-by-step guide to developing and maintaining a personal copy of important health documents  Cards 4-Life, a unique line of greeting cards to encourage health promotion and disease prevention via funny cartoons as well as more serious health messages

PatientSchool. net promises to turn even the most confused and frustrated patient into a more confident, savvier health care consumer able to help map out his own destiny and keep more of his hard-earned money in his pocket. By providing the public with physician-developed resources and guidance, PatientSchool. net strives to create a new breed of well-informed patients capable of partnering in their health care as never before.

About Savvier Health:

Savvier Health is a unique health and wellness company located in Columbia, MD which teaches employees to how partner in their health care, thus optimizing their care while lowering corporate health-related costs.

Remote Healthcare Monitoring Not So Distant

Remote Healthcare Monitoring Not So Distant

Efficient, effective and reliable remote healthcare monitoring is a holy grail in medicine but solutions have so far proved elusive. But it took a step closer to reality with the successful conclusion of pilot tests under the E-Care project.

(PRWEB) March 23, 2005

E-Care developed a comprehensive monitoring system to capture, transmit and distribute vital health data to doctors, carers and family. Pilot tests of the system indicate that doctors, nurses, patients and their families found E-Care reliable, simple to use and an effective method to improve the quality of care while reducing costs.

It monitors patients with chronic, or long-term, illnesses such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease, and patients discharged after an operation or serious medical crises, such as stroke victims. It can acquire vital information about a patient who lives far away from medical support, and it can alert medical staff if there is a dangerous change in patient's status. With e-CareÂ’s system doctors spend less time going to see patients and more time treating them. It also means real-time monitoring without high staff or capital costs.

"Citizens with long-term illnesses as well as those who are in post-surgery state, or predisposed to illness, need monitoring of their health until their condition becomes stable," says project director Mariella Devoti. "They, as well as their family and friends, also need an efficient way to collaborate with their doctor and get informed about their state. Until now, monitoring of the health condition of such people could only be accomplished by prearranged visits from a doctor, or by visits to the local hospital for a check-up. However, this is an inefficient solution, as well as costly, as these visits would scarcely be on a daily basis."

E-CareÂ’s remote monitoring system includes a wireless intelligent sensor network (WISE), bio-medical sensors and a radio terminal. WISE consists of a series of monitors that track signs like activity, temperature, pulse, blood pressure and glucose or other personal data like weight, pain measurement and drug conformance. Data collected by the sensors are sent to the transmitter that sends them to the central system.

SMS messages sent to the drug conformance device remind the patients when they need to take medication. Patients send a confirmation once they take the drugs.

The central system includes a medical data manager (MDM) that automatically checks patient data against the patient's record and any doctor's notes. If there is a disturbing change in the patient's vital signs, for example high glucose levels in a diabetic, an alarm is sent directly to the patient's physician. This provides peace of mind for patient and family and ensures a doctor or medics can respond rapidly to any problems that arise. Similarly, the MDM can alert paramedical staff or a doctor if patient data fails to arrive when expected.

The E-Care repository stores all patient data. The collaboration module allows user to communicate using real-time synchronous message, audio conferencing or videoconference. Patients and family can confer with their doctor, or GPs or nurses can confer with a specialist.

The workflow system controls overall system processes, while user Web applications dynamically format and present the patient data depending on who is accessing the information and what access rights they have.

Researchers used standard and widely adopted technologies where possible, so the system will work with any modern hospital or clinic.

E-Care deployed in three pilot programmes between February 2003 and February 2004. "The final validation results for E-Care showed a general satisfaction among doctors and medical staff, system and medical administrators, patients and their family," says coordinator Devoti.

Users praised its practicability, reliability, effectiveness and patient acceptance.

Diabetes specialists praised the glucose monitoring system. It allows the doctor to change patient treatment based on vital sign analysis. Similarly the blood pressure monitor was particularly of interest for patients with stroke or cardiovascular disease.

With the project validation complete the partners will fine tune the system and search for commercial opportunities. Remote monitoring is now not so distant.

Natural Cosmetics Company Integrates Traditional Beauty Wisdom into New Product Line

Natural Cosmetics Company Integrates Traditional Beauty Wisdom into New Product Line

Indigenous Beauty releases Nature's Botany product line of skincare and cosmetics. The all-natural formulations are based on traditional beauty practices of indigenous cultures. The products are made with organic ingredients, in coordination with the growing demand for organic personal care products.

(PRWEB) May 9, 2003

"What’s your beauty secret?" is a question often asked around circles of women. Philadelphia resident Sandra Thebaud, always intrigued with the relationship between beauty, diet, and traditional beauty “potions”, traveled the globe to spas in remote locations in South America, South Pacific, and the Caribbean, where beauty is achieved through age-old recipes traditional to their ancient cultures. Back home, Thebaud now manufacturers similar formulations under the product line Botany’s Desire and is available online at www. indigenousbeauty. com.

American-based cosmetics companies are often marketing a science-based beauty concept, such as their salespeople in lab coats, or slick ads with product-promotion terms such as revolutionary and advanced. However Thebaud is suggesting something new but old—as she traveled throughout the world, she observed how many other cultures have beautiful skin. “I researched ancient healing practices of these cultures, and integrate

These properties into my formulations,” says Thebaud. Botany’s Desire products are handmade to order in small batches using only the best available organic or biodynamically grown therapeutic grade oils and herbs. The ingredient list is filled with items one can purchase from a health food store, and formulations often read like a cooking recipe. “People are more aware of what they are putting on their bodies. Our skin is our largest organ and is very permeable. People don’t want to be rubbing chemicals into their bodies.” For more information contact Sandra Thebaud at 267.251.5953.

Indigenous Beauty, www. indigenousbeauty. com is a Philadelphia-based virtual store featuring all natural beauty and food products. BotanyÂ’s Desire and Organic Beeswax are lines produced exclusively by Indigenous Beauty. Launched in October 2002 by company President Sandra Thebaud, the companyÂ’s mission is to promote the beauty and nutritional practices of indigenous cultures.

When a cancer research lab was unable to locate a rare tropical fish to continue their research they contacted Supply Chain 411 Corp. for sourcing assistance. Supply Chain 411 quickly identified a new source of supply for the rare tropical fish, Takifugu rupripes, which is commonly called a puff fish or blow fish.

Fugu is a very useful model for gene discovery, and for annotating the human and other vertebrate genomes. Apart from annotating coding sequences, Fugu is also useful for identifying and characterizing gene regulatory elements. Since the intergenic and intronic regions are highly compressed in the Fugu, it is easy to identify conserved non-coding sequences in the Fugu and to assay them for function. Transgenic studies in rodents and frogs, as well as transfection into mammalian cell lines, have shown that mammalian and amphibian trans factors are able to interact with Fugu cis elements to mediate cell - and tissue-specific expression, and to mediate appropriate response to physiological stimuli. Since a Fugu cosmid clone typically contains 6 to 8 genes and a BAC clone contains up to 15 genes, Fugu genomic clones are ideally suited for dissecting gene regulatory regions and locus control elements. Which one day help us get closer to understanding Cancer if we can decipher the coding.

Stopping Human Error in Medicine

Stopping Human Error in Medicine

Practicing Perfection Institute to unveil strategies and tools in Boston on May 23rd that can put a quick end to many medical mistakes.

Brattleboro, VT (PRWEB) April 18, 2006

The Practicing Perfection Institute, Inc. (PPI), an organization dedicated to the elimination of human error, announces the availability of tools and strategies that can quickly eliminate many of the human errors currently occurring in medicine. By infusing proven work behavior tools and organizational strategies into their cultures, medical organizations can cut human error by half in as little as thirty days.

“We’ve adapted the tools and strategies developed by the commercial nuclear power and aviation industries,” commented PPI’s Founder and President Tim Autrey (http://www. timautrey. com/about. html), “and are making them directly available to the healthcare community. While medical professionals are working diligently to solve longer term safety and quality issues, these tools and strategies can be quickly implemented. Once they’re in place, a large percentage of the mistakes currently occurring will be eliminated.”

The Practicing Perfection Institute, Inc. was founded in 2005 with a profound vision: Error-free world-wide, one life at a time. Drawing from the successes and lessons learned over the past 20 years within the US commercial nuclear power (http://www. practicingperfectioninstitute. com/articles/usnuclearpower. aspx) and aviation industries, PPI is making rapid human error reduction a reality for the healthcare industry.

The study of human error can be very complex; however, when it comes to stopping the majority of mistakes people make, according to Dr. James Reason, “Low-level (and largely hard-wired) postural correcting mechanisms work extremely well.” The tools and strategies offered by PPI work at this base level. They are fundamental. They are extremely effective.

“We want to prevent as many errors as possible as rapidly as possible,” explains Tim Autrey. “There is no question that these tools and strategies work. The question is…how can you effectively get them into the culture of a healthcare environment? We are hosting a One Day Intensive in Boston, MA on May 23 (http://www. practicingperfectioninstitute. com/implementation/medicalintensive. aspx), during which we will give participants everything they need to quickly and effectively infuse these strategies and tools into their healthcare organizations.”

The error reduction tools and strategies developed by PPI are part of a process known as Practicing Perfection. In addition to the Error Elimination Tools, elements of this process designed to raise the human performance of any organization to the highest possible levels include the Culture Profile, a tool that identifies organizational core elements that are setting people up to make mistakes; the Performance Enhancement Matrix (PEM), an on-line error reporting, tracking and trending database; and the Code of Honor (COH), an incredibly powerful means for achieving worker synergy and sense of ‘team’.

About the Practicing Perfection Institute, Inc. (http://www. PracticingPerfectionInstitute. com)

The Practicing Perfection Institute, Inc. was founded for one purpose - to eliminate human error whenever and wherever possible. The minds and hearts of those who see the vision of error-free world-wide, one life at a time, are joining together to make the Institute the center for human error reduction worldwide.

Dianetics provides an introduction to the spiritual beliefs that one can derive from Dianetics.

This new web site at www. Dianetics. org contains over 50 newly produced Dianetics videos and included therein is an introduction to Dianetics principals, personal video testimonials and stories from those who have used Dianetics to better their lives, answers to frequently asked questions including, What is Dianetics?, a form and telephone number to help one find Dianetics Auditing (http://www. dianetics. org/contact-an-auditor/?source=prweb) in their area, and up-to-date news of Dianetics' rapidly growing worldwide popularity. There is also a selection of excerpts from the Dianetics audio book edition.

Ron Hubbard works, listen to audio excerpts, and purchase Dianetics books and/or the home study extension course. They can also request a free Dianetics excerpt, a never before available, 80-page sampler from the book "Dianetics The Modern Science of Mental Health", or order one of the titles and discover for themselves how they can use Dianetics to improve their lives.

The Church of Scientology encourages anyone looking for effective answers for themselves or to assist a friend or loved one, to visit the new web site at http://www. Dianetics. org (http://www. Dianetics. org).

Juicing Fanatic Discovers How To Keep Your Fresh, Organic Fruit And Vegetables Up To 1300% Longer For An Unheard-of 138 Days!

Juicing Fanatic Discovers How To Keep Your Fresh, Organic Fruit And Vegetables Up To 1300% Longer For An Unheard-of 138 Days!

CINCINNATI, OH. December 2nd -- Although he was raised to believe that it was simply an unavoidable part of life to have his fresh produce quickly begin to wilt, turn limp, and lose its nutritional benefit shortly after bring it home from the sore or market, Robert Watson has stumbled upon something that, although cliche, is simply amazing.

(PRWEB) December 5, 2003

His tests have yielded bananas that lasted 28 days, cauliflower lasted 46 days, avocados were still fresh 54 days later, celery was crispy 94 days later, but Robert's most surprising result has been 2 pounds of carrots that had a life of 138 days.

A self-declared juicing "fanatic", Robert Watson admits, "It sounds totally unbelievable, but seeing truly is believing. Side by side comparisons in my own kitchen doing it the old way, versus using the Super Sacks produces a night and day difference." Mr. Watson operates the only juicing website that offers a lifetime guarantee in all of North America on the equipment he sells and he insists on only distributing what he personally uses in his own healthy lifestyle.

Admitting that most people simply do not believe him when he tells people what he has discovered, Mr. Watson says, "Everybody has been taught that when you bring your fruits and veggies home from the store, it's almost like you are playing beat the clock. We've were taught that we just have to settle with limp produce after a few days in your fridge. But with Super Sacks, you get to witness the impossible right before your eyes. Defies logic, but it works." Super Sacks are now available worldwide at http://www. LequipJuicer. com (http://www. LequipJuicer. com)

Market for Medical Device Electrodes Projected to Reach $811 Million by 2012, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

Driven by the trend towards disposable electrodes and broader demographic trends such as aging population, the market for medical device electrodes is projected to reach $811 million by 2012.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) April 16, 2008

Electrodes in electronic devices detect electrical signals in patients' muscle and nerve cells that are created by chemical reactions. Medical application areas include blood gas analyzers, defibrillators, ECG, EEG, EMG, ERG, electrosurgical devices, fetal scalp monitoring, nasopharyngeal devices, neurological devices, pacemakers, and TENS. Ailments such as nervous, muscular, ocular, cardiac disorders which traditionally required surgical intervention for confirmatory results can now be easily detected through the use of medical electrodes. Comic Icon Joins Earth Day Network’s 2003 “Water for Life” Campaign

Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) May 1, 2003 -

Man is doing his part to pick up our planet by reinforcing the message of Earth Day Network in an effort to make “every”-man aware of the things that “any”-man can do on Earth Day, April 22nd, to help our environment.

Every year, millions of people use Earth Day to focus their efforts on important environmental issues. For the past twelve years, Earth Day Network has helped by providing issue-based activity guides. Ziggy joins Earth Day Network to spread the word of the environmental awareness campaign, encouraging people to take part in making our environment safe and healthy.

This year, the Earth Day themeis "Water for Life," coinciding with the UN International Year of Freshwater. As essential to our lives as well as all other life on Earth, Earth Day Network provides some facts about the EarthÂ’s water supply:

• A fixed amount of water exists on and around the Earth. Although 70% of the Earth is water, most of it is not fit to drink. Only a tiny fraction (approximately 1%) of the EarthÂ’s water is fresh, clean, and accessible for human use.

• More than 1 billion people in the world do not have access to safe water. Over 3 million people in the world die each year as a result of preventable water related disease.

• Rainwater runoff from city streets may contain metals, oil, and other pollutants. Once these substances contaminate groundwater, it is very difficult and expensive to clean it up.

• Since 1950, the global use of water has more than tripled.

• By 2025, it is predicted that 3.5 billion people world-wide will experience water shortages.

Tom Wilson II, artist of the daily comic strip icon, Ziggy, explains Ziggy’s involvement for Earth Day and the campaign for awareness on fresh water this year. “Everything and anything happens to Ziggy and he always looks at things through his optimistic eyes. By helping to express environmental concerns, Ziggy believes he can help raise awareness of water concerns, lower the effects of negative influences on the environment, and ask his friends and fans to participate in their local Earth Day events to help celebrate nature,” Wilson said.

Earth Day Network is the nonprofit coordinating body of worldwide Earth Day activities, which has a goal to promote a healthy environment and a peaceful, just, sustainable world by spreading environmental awareness through educational materials and publications, and by organizing events, activities, and annual campaigns. The network, which includes more than 5,000 organizations in 184 countries, was founded by the organizers of the original Earth Day in 1970, Gaylord Nelson and Denis Hayes, and is based in Washington, DC.

With Earth Day Network, Ziggy wants everyone to know that anyone can play a part in helping the environment. Ziggy requests all his fans to join him on Earth Day in being more environmentally conscience, water conservative, energy efficient, and encourage others to do the same.

"Ziggy's got it exactly right," said Kathleen Rogers, president of Earth Day Network. "Everyone can help protect the planet with small steps to conserve water. You can go out and participate in group activities, or take simple steps with things you can do at home," she said.

According to The Earth Day Network, Ziggy is resounding some of the simple things anyone can do at home and in their community, like:

• Turn off the Water – Turn off the water when you brush your teeth or shave, and fix those leaky faucets.

• Clean Up a Stretch of a Local Stream - Visit the nearest body of water, lake, stream, ocean, or estuary. Look for and catalog evidence of human use and occupation. Is there garbage in or near the water? Sort and classify the garbage. Is the water discolored or spotted with foam? Is there visible life in the water or at the edge? Make a survey of the local fish markets to find out where their fish comes from. Ask about the quality of the local bodies of water.

• Install a low-flow, energy efficient showerhead. YouÂ’ll be singing in the shower, “We're in the Money," as a low-flow, energy-efficient showerhead saved 27 cents a day on water and 51 cents on electricity. Earth Day can be the day to install low-flow toilets, shower-heads, and faucet aerators.

• Contact your local recycling office to find out how to dispose of nasty chemicals that can pollute the water supply. Paints, solvents, pesticides, wood finishers, and non-biodegradable household cleaners are chemicals that many people have around their homes. If disposed of improperly, they can seep into the ground or enter the water supply. Even batteries are harmful and toxic.

• Monitor lawn and garden care. Fertilizers and pesticides can seep into the ground, or run off into a near by water supply. Also, donÂ’t waste water and kill plants by over watering gardens and lawns, and donÂ’t water mid-day when the sun will evaporate the water your lawn needs.

Beginning this year, Earth Day NetworkÂ’s new goal is to provide educational materials for students to take civic action to protect the environment. April 22nd is an opportunity to highlight student environmental efforts, integrate service learning, and encourage civic participation. Earth Day Network is providing, a "WhatÂ’s in Your Water?" guide. In the guide, there is basic information about water quality and lesson plans with simple, fun hands-on water quality tests. The guide helps teachers and students measure the health of local water resources and take beginning steps toward becoming responsible citizens. There are also many suggestions for action and civic participation based on your "snapshot" results. An inexpensive test kit is available or you can create your own simplified version from the website, www. earthday. net.

'First For Women' National Magazine

'First For Women' National Magazine

On Monday, April 3, 2006, Laura Dion-Jones Casey will be one of four women featured in "First For Women" magazine, available nationwide at all finer bookstores, grocery stores, and drugstores.

Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) March 31, 2006

On Monday, April 3, 2006, LauraDion-Jones Casey will be one of four women featured in "First For Women" magazine, available nationwide at all finer bookstores, grocery stores, and drugstores.

The feature story tells the central role spirituality and meditation played in Laura's tremendous 130-pound weight loss success story. By calling upon her higher power's help and making meditation a part of her daily routine, Laura lost 130 pounds in 2 1/2 years and has kept it off for over 18 months. Developing walking into a daily habit and cutting white starch and sugar from her diet were also key components to her tremendous weight loss success.

An avid urban walker averaging 48-55 miles a week, Laura can be seen walking daily around Chicago's Gold Coast, Magnificent Mile, River North and Downtown areas, most of the time with her two little Italian Greyhounds. On many morning walks her husband joins her. In 2005, her third year of daily walking, Laura logged 2361.28 miles.

Her extensive background in the hair and fashion industries led her to become one of the nation's first and top Plus Size designers from

1986-1998. She was also one of the nation's first and top Plus Size

Models from 1980-1988. She has dozens of personal appearance makeovers for women as well as men to her credit.

Laura is now a motivational coach. She is writing a How-To/How I Did It book, Pound by Pound: How To Move, Lose Weight, and Stay Motivated 365 Days a Year For The Rest of Your Life (And look fabulous while doing it). She also speaks and writes motivational articles for an online support group (www. poundbypoundonline. com).

Her ability to communicate crosses a diverse demographic. Younger women and men look up to Laura like a cooler, chicer big sister; older gals and guys identify with her because she's not a youngster and see that her motivational coaching can help them look as healthy as she does.

Everybody Laura meets gains the confidence that they, too, can do what she's done - "Commit To Get Fit."

Obesity and poor health have no prejudice and know no bounds, but society has a prejudice toward overweight people no matter how wealthy, famous or powerful they are. Laura's motivational techniques raise people's awareness of lifestyle choices so that they can take control of their weight, their fitness, their appearance, their self-esteem and their life.

Ms. Dion-Jones Casey looks forward to this national exposure. She hopes readers are encouraged to walk daily, eat healthier and take action to live a longer, happier, more fit life. Advice for achieving your own weight loss success story can be found at her motivational website and at her blog (http://motivation. poundbypoundonline. net (http://motivation. poundbypoundonline. net)).

Bottom line: You gotta wanna, and Laura makes people wanna and then shows them how.

A sample chapter of Laura’s book, Pound by Pound: How To Move, Lose Weight, and Stay Motivated 365 Days a Year For The Rest of Your Life (And look fabulous while doing it) is posted on her website (www. poundbypoundonline. com). Click on “The Book” tab for pdf.

Angels of Death Flourish In Hospice - Four Families Report.

Hospice Advocacy Group Initiates Letter Writing Campaign

 GRAND RAPIDS, MI - January 8, 2001 -

The Hospice Patients Alliance has received credible reports about

Patients being killed in the hospice setting. Four families have come

Forward to publicly protest the untimely death of their loved ones and

Seek government intervention to save patients' lives. These patients and

Their families expected to receive compassionate care promoting a death

With dignity. Instead, they report that the "Angels of Death" hastened

The death of their loved ones Research summarized in medical journals

(see below) suggests that many hundreds and possibly thousands of

Patients in the U. S. may be euthanized without their permission.

One common method of hospice style euthanasia is to sedate the

Patient into a medically-induced coma and then either shut down the

Breathing through the over-administration of a narcotic like morphine or

Let the patient die of dehydration while in the prolonged coma (known as

"terminal sedation"). A second method is to withhold needed care to

Treat an infection, letting the patient die of massive systemic

Infection. A decision to sedate and overdose is a decision to kill. A

Decision not to treat is a decision to create a situation in which the

Patient will die sooner than expected from a terminal illness.

When patients receive a terminal diagnosis, physicians often

Recommend hospice care as a way of assuring a "death with dignity."

However, patients cannot be sure whether they will be cared for or

Hastened to an untimely death. The resistance of some patients to be

Placed in hospice is in many cases due to their gut intuition that they

May be euthanized rather than cared for... and they would be correct in

Some hospice settings.

The US Office of Inspector General and state enforcement agencies

Confirm that chronically ill patients are sometimes fraudulently

Enrolled in hospices. In some cases, these chronically ill patients may

Be terminated after they have served as revenue sources for the

While major hospice lobbying groups and agency organizations

Publicly deny that there are major problems in the industry, the Hospice

Patients Alliance continues to receive complaints from the public about

Abominable hospice care. Privately, physicians and hospice staff may be

Aware of the problems, but assure the public that such problems "are

  Nationwide Letter-Writing Campaign Begun

Hospice Patients Alliance has initiated a nationwide letter writing

Campaign to protest involuntary euthanasias and to encourage prosecution

Of those who terminate the life of a vulnerable patient. Involuntary

Euthanasia is the medical killing of a patient without the patient's

Permission and in some cases without the patient's knowledge. Medical

Killing of patients is illegal in every state, however prosecutors have

Shied away from bringing charges when the killing occurs in a hospice

Setting. If prosecutors do not act for crimes committed in hospice

Settings, then hospice may become the "killing field" where unwanted

Chronically ill can be terminated or where criminals may have a license

To kill (with no consequences). Some of the families have reported that

Their loved one's medical records were falsified by the hospices.

This campaign is not about physician-assisted suicide which would

Involve terminating a patient's life at the patients request. This is

About the obviously illegal killing of patients against their will, ...

Patients who in some cases begged to be allowed to live and not be

The letter writing campaign will begin on January 25th after the the

New U. S. administration is in place. The goal is to reform the health

Care system to stop such medical killings from occurring and especially

To improve hospice care for all. Information about the letter writing

Campaign along with suggested addresses is found at

Www. hospicepatients. org/index. html#Invol-euth-protest (http://www. hospicepatients. org/index. html#Invol-euth-protest).

District Attorneys in California, southern Georgia and Maryland

Hospice Patients Alliance is carefully monitoring developments

Involving the four bereaved families that have approached local district

Attorneys for a fair and impartial investigation of the alleged medical

Killings of their loved ones. In Santa Ana and Los Angeles counties in

California, Wayne County in Southern Georgia, and Anne Arundel County in

Maryland, families report that local District Attorneys have not yet

Charged anyone in the alleged killing of their loved ones... even

Though in some cases, many months have passed by with no action by the

DAs. Whether political "strings" will be pulled by the hospices to block

Police from doing a full and impartial investigation in these cases

Remains to be seen.

The Hospice Patients Alliance, Inc. is a non-profit charitable

Organization offering information and assistance to hospice patients,

Families and caregivers nationwide. For more information, visit Hospice

Patients Alliance or call [616] 866-9127.

There May Come A Time In Your Life When

There May Come A Time In Your Life When

There may come a time when your entire life will depend upon the kindness, compassion, generosity and giving spirit of total strangers. It may come at a time when everything you own, or love dearly in life, has been destroyed. It may come unexpectedly, suddenly and without warning. When it does, and if it happens to you, then you just may be glad for the help of total strangers.

Lubbock, TX (PRWEB) January 3, 2005

Tragedy, death and destruction comes in many forms. It may come in the form of your house burning to the ground, or after a devastating hurricane, tornado, or a typhoon. It could come after an earthquake has leveled buildings and homes for miles in every direction, or after a flood has ravaged everything in its path. Or, as in the case of Asia and Indonesia, after deadly 30-50 foot tsunami waves, traveling more than 300 miles an hour, has destroyed everything in its path for 3700 miles in every direction. When it happens in your life, you just may be glad there are people in the world who care enough to give to charities, search and rescue organizations, churches, and faith-based ministries. You just be glad there are people like that in the world who care enough to give of their time, money and effort to help people just like you when tragedy strikes.

When death, disaster and tragedy occurs close to home, or halfway around the world, thank goodness there are people in the world today who react immediately. They reach deep into their pockets and bank accounts and share some of their hard-earned money, in order to help those who have lost loved ones and everything they own. By the millions of dollars, they give generously to charities, health organizations, rescue agencies, churches, faith-based ministries and other organizations worldwide that are in the daily habit of helping others when a tragedy occurs. But rare is the person or business who gives eighty-percent (80%) of their business profits to faith-based ministries around the world on a daily basis, so those ministries can help others every day of the week – even when there are no natural disasters.

Operating from a rather exciting and unique business model, Ken Butler Photography is in business to help others. While the vast majority of businesses worldwide take their profits to build even greater profits, Ken Butler Photography takes only ten-percent (10%) of its business profits to build its business. Ten-percent (10%) is given to their local church, while the balance, that of eighty-percent (80%), is given away to faith-based Christian ministries around the world – so those ministries can continue helping people in desperate need.

Visitors to Ken Butler Photography’s web site will find thousands of products they can choose from, for their personal or business use. More and more products are being added every day, as well. Naturally, when a visitor makes a purchase of one or more of the products on their web site, Ken Butler Photography makes a profit. And, when the checks come in, eighty-percent (80%) of those profits immediately goes out to faith-based Christian ministries. Working with personally selected ministries that are known for helping others every day of the year, Ken Butler Photography can truthfully say that those ministries do far more than the average when it comes to helping others. Those selected ministries provide money, food, clothing, shoes, coats, medical supplies and medical equipment, and much more, to those in desperate need all over the world. The ministries shown on their web site are involved on a daily basis helping others, as well as they are deeply involved with helping others when a natural disaster occurs – like in Asia and Indonesia for an example.

For other Business Owners around the world who give regularly to faith-based ministries, Ken Butler Photography has dedicated a page on their web site - so those Business Owners can display their products and services, thereby giving potential customers a wider variety of products to choose from. At the same time, Ken Butler Photography strongly encourages faith-based ministries to Link their ministry statements to their web site, so people around the world can give freely to help them help others.

If you have a “problem” with giving your hard-earned money to worthwhile charitable organizations, even in times of worldwide natural disasters, you can now get something for yourself - while knowing that, when you do, 80% of your income will be going to help others. That’s what Ken Butler Photography does. It’s a new, exciting and unique business model that provides you, the customer, with something tangible for your own personal or business use while, at the same time, helping others around the world. The bottom line is that your purchases, or financial gifts, goes directly to one of the ministries on their web site.

You just may want to take a few minutes to visit Ken Butler PhotographyÂ’s web site. There just may come a time in your life when you will need their help.

WorldatWork and American Benefits Council Invited to Share Findings from New 401(k) Trends Survey at a National Press Club Newsmaker Press Conference

A new survey of U. S. employers titled "Trends in 401(k) Plans" by WorldatWork and the American Benefits Council will be released at a National Press Club Newsmaker press conference at 10 a. m. on Tuesday, March 17.

(PRWEB) March 12, 2009

A new survey of U. S. employers by WorldatWork (http://www. worldatwork. org) and the American Benefits Council will be released at a National Press Club Newsmaker press conference at 10 a. m. on Tuesday, March 17, in the Broadcast Operations Center, Suite 480, 529 14th St. NW, Washington, D. C.

Cara Welch, director of public policy for WorldatWork and Lynn Dudley, senior vice president, policy, for the American Benefits Council, will discuss the report and its implications for defined contribution plan reform.

The survey report titled, “Trends in 401(k) Plans,” compares 401(k) trends from 2002, 2003 and 2008 and finds that the financial crisis has not significantly discouraged 401(k) contributions or participation. Nevertheless, the impact of the shrinking economy and the reality of financial stress being felt by Americans can be seen in some employee behavior, such as the increase in hardship loans from retirement accounts.

About the Survey
This survey was conducted in December 2008 by WorldatWork, in collaboration with the American Benefits Council. More than 505 members participated in this survey during a two-week period, generating a 10-percent response rate. The study’s margin of error is +/– 3 percent.

NIH National Study Testing Chelation Therapy for Heart Disease Under Way at International Medical Clinics (IMC) Atlanta, Georgia

NIH National Study Testing Chelation Therapy for Heart Disease Under Way at International Medical Clinics (IMC) Atlanta, Georgia

NIH National Study Testing Chelation Therapy for Heart Disease Under Way at International Medical Clinics (IMC) Atlanta, Georgia for people over 50 with a history of heart attack.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 6, 2005

International Medical Clinics (IMC) is seeking men and women age 50 and older who have had a heart attack to join a National Institutes of Health (NIH) study on the effectiveness and safety of an investigational treatment for heart disease. The investigational treatment is a combination of chelation therapy and high-dose vitamin therapy compared with placebo (inactive treatment).

International Medical Clinics (IMC) is one of more than 100 medical institutions across the country selected to take part in the Chelation Therapy Study, the largest clinical research study to evaluate the therapy's effectiveness and safety as a treatment for heart disease.

Chelation (pronounced key-LAY-shun) therapy is an investigational therapy using a man-made amino acid, called EDTA (ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid). It is added to the blood through a vein. A national research study is now testing whether chelation therapy is safe and effective for treating heart disease.

“Many people are considering using chelation therapy because of the belief that it may treat heart disease. However, this has not been scientifically proven. Past studies did not show benefit, but may have been too small to be conclusive," said Dr. Lisa Merritt. "We are committed to working with the NIH to find the answer to this important public health question."

The study is more than 20 times larger than any previous study of chelation therapy and is designed to be large enough to detect even moderate benefits associated with this therapy.

Coronary artery disease – the most common form of heart disease – is the leading cause of death of Americans, affecting more than 7 million people and killing 500,000 people each year. It occurs when the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle (coronary arteries) become hardened and narrowed. The arteries harden and become narrow due to the buildup of fatty materials like cholesterol, called plaque, on the inner walls or lining of the arteries (atherosclerosis). Blood flow to the heart is reduced as plaque narrows the coronary arteries. This decreases the oxygen supply to the heart muscle. In a heart attack, a blood clot forms on the plaque and completely blocks flow through the artery.

Study participants will be assigned randomly (by chance, like flipping a coin) to receive a standardized chelation solution or a placebo (inactive) solution over a period of 28 months. Because chelation therapy may also remove important vitamins and minerals the body needs, all study participants will take low-dose vitamin and mineral supplements. In addition, some participants will receive a high-dose vitamin and mineral supplement. The study will also evaluate whether high-dose vitamins and minerals are helpful. Neither the participants nor the researchers administering the treatment will know which of the four treatment combinations is being given. Using this process to assign people to treatment groups means that the groups will be as similar as possible and that the treatments they receive can be compared objectively.

Those who join the study will be part of a nationwide effort to help the medical community find new and effective treatments for heart disease. In addition, their health will be closely monitored while they are enrolled in the study.

There are some potential risks and side effects to chelation therapy. The most common side effect is a burning sensation at the site where the EDTA is delivered into the veins. Rare side effects can include fever, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Even more rare are serious side effects that can include a sudden drop in blood pressure, abnormally low calcium levels in the blood, permanent kidney damage, and bone marrow depression (meaning that blood cell counts fall). Reversible injury to the kidneys, although infrequent, has been reported with EDTA chelation therapy. Other serious side effects can occur if EDTA is not administered by a trained health professional.

Solution for Global Smoking Epidemic May Be As Close as Our Own Subconscious

Solution for Global Smoking Epidemic May Be As Close as Our Own Subconscious

Tom Nicoli, a board certified hypnotist, is responding in a unique way to the report released last week by the World Health Organization on the global epidemic of tobacco use and tobacco products.

Woburn, MA (PRWEB) February 20, 2008

In light of disturbing findings released last week by the World Health Organization on the escalating use of tobacco, Tom Nicoli, founder of World Hypnotism Day, is stepping up in a unique way to help fight the epidemic use of tobacco and tobacco products.

Tom Nicoli, a board certified hypnotist, has committed the outreach of World Hypnotism Day, through the development of a non-profit 501(c)(3), to apply the power of hypnotists and educators around the world to help combat the extensive use of tobacco. World Hypnotism Day is a global outreach developed in 2005 to educate and build worldwide awareness about the benefits of hypnotism. Now, World Hypnotism Day is expanding its mission to include community events, publishing and other offerings that will extend its communications throughout the year.

"If governments are not educating people about the dangers of smoking, then the need for effective, affordable tools to combat the individual use of tobacco becomes more critical than ever before. Through an aggressive educational outreach, we can build an understanding of hypnosis as a powerful and affordable tool for helping people overcome negative habits," Tom Nicoli explains.

"Hypnosis to quit smoking (http://www. tomnicoli. com/smoking-pkg. shtml) is a proven solution that does not require a prescription or a health insurance plan in order to save the person's life."

Tom Nicoli, BCH, CI, first rose to fame when his highly successful weight loss hypnosis (http://www. tomnicoli. com/wl-pkg. shtml) programs were featured on NBC's Dateline. While Nicoli's subject, who succeeded in losing forty pounds by his target date, received most of Dateline's attention, the program documents that the subject's wife was so impressed with her husband's weight loss results that she tried Tom Nicoli's quit smoking hypnosis program and joined the thousands of others who have successfully kicked their smoking addiction with Nicoli's help.

Tom Nicoli's quit smoking hypnosis (http://www. tomnicoli. com/smoking-pkg. shtml) program, available as a CD-set, is proven to effectively remove the desire to smoke, end nicotine cravings, and to create healthier habits. Tests have shown that the physical addiction for nicotine leaves the body within 48 to 72 hours, yet the cravings continue. Because the cravings are generated at a subconscious level and are related to the thought of smoking and the emotional need for it, a stop smoking hypnosis program that addresses these aspects of the tobacco addiction offers a successful and sustainable way for people to permanently rid themselves of the desire and the habit to smoke.

The World Health Organization's report, titled, The Global Tobacco Epidemic (http://www. who. int/tobacco/mpower/mpower_report_full_2008.pdf), 2008, identifies the following key concerns:
-In the twentieth century, tobacco use killed one hundred million people worldwide, but if current use patterns continue, in the twenty-first century, it will kill more than one billion.
-Only nine of the 194 countries in the world offer full services to treat tobacco dependence, covering only 5 percent of the world's people.
-Forty percent of countries worldwide still permit smoking in hospitals and schools.

Tom Nicoli points out, "In the time it takes you to read this one sentence, another person will have died from an illness linked directly to tobacco use. What better reason do we need to try quit smoking hypnosis programs as an affordable solution to this global crisis?"

Tom Nicoli is available for media interviews at 617-605-0443.

News Anchor Turns News Maker, Launches Online Pet Resource

News Anchor Turns News Maker, Launches Online Pet Resource

Journalist's Own Senior Dog is the Inspiration Behind Aarff. com, a Unique Website for Senior Pets

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) September 3, 2009

Pet owners, it's time to log on and learn! AARFF. com has officially made its Internet debut, a comprehensive website that is dedicated to providing the latest information on products, services, trends and treatments for pets. Launched in July, the online resource serves as a FREE clearinghouse of information for pet owners. The site is full of facts and fun including product reviews, a forum for people to ask veterinarians (Dr. AARFF) health questions, and even a "green" section for the pet that puts mother earth first. If it's dish about dogs or chat about cats, you'll find it on AARFF. com

AARFF. com was created to fill a very big void in cyberspace. It seems like you can find just about anything online these days, but when television anchor Kelly Jackson tried to find a reliable source of information about pets… the results were nothing to wag about. Particularly lacking was information about senior pets, their health, and the products available to make their lives full and happy. A lifelong pet lover and animal advocate, Jackson decided to do something to fill the fido and feline void. She applied her years of experience as a reporter, and started doing research, compiling data, and pooling resources. Inspired by her own dog Meeko, she wanted to create a website that would give pet owners the latest information on animals young and old. After a year of planning and production, the site was ready to go live.

"I know how frustrating it can be to search and search for answers online, and never find what you need," said Jackson. "Either the website is not reliable, the information is outdated, or the products are no good. As a journalist, I am well versed in finding good sources of information. It is what I do each and every day on the air! I want to provide that same service to fellow pet lovers. I am their advocate, doing my research each and every day, working to find the best information available, and then sharing it with AARFF. com visitors."

There are several unique components populating the AARFF. com website, chief among them the abundant links and pieces of information dedicated completely to the senior set. The original inspiration for AARFF, senior pets will always have a special place on this website. But, browsers will also find all the information they need for dogs and cats of any age.

The website, which is constantly updated with articles and resources, is powered by sponsors approached by Jackson herself. She has made it a point to use her keen reporting skills to vet out the best fits for this site (including the "Vets" themselves!). Jackson's plan is to grow aarff. com by introducing the concept to pet-friendly cities across the country, hosting events and creating a network of AARFF. com supporters and participants from coast to coast.

For more information about AARFF. com, or to set up an interview with founder Kelly Jackson, please contact her at (916) 812-2733, that's 81-AARFF.

SAS 70 Data Centers Help Protect Against Data Breaches

SAS 70 Data Centers Help Protect Against Data Breaches

HITECH Act Sheds New Light On Data Security Issues of Healthcare Organizations

Ann Arbor, MI (PRWEB) December 9, 2009

Online Tech, a SAS 70 managed data center (http://www. onlinetech. com/) operator, provides data security measures critical for HITECH act compliance. With the recent passing of the new HITECH (Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health) act – an addition to pre-existing HIPAA rules and regulations – the stakes for data breaches to private health information are rising. With possible fines up to 1.5 million and mandatory public disclosure of the breach in some cases, the issues of data security and data encryption are now more important than ever.

Recognizing this requirement in data security from their clients, Online Tech recently went through its SAS 70 Type II audit at all of their data centers in order to deliver a reliable and repeatable set of secure data and network services. By completing the SAS 70 audit process, Online Tech’s clients have assurance that each of its data centers consistently demonstrates the same high standard of security and control.

A recent study conducted by Crowe Horwath found that the majority of the 77 organizations that they polled had one or more data breach incidents involving the loss or outright theft of protected health information over the last two years. Under the new act, future breaches could be subject to stiff penalties and public disclosure of the incidents.

“Online Tech’s security measures protect one of our most important assets, our patient’s data. Their SAS 70 audit ensures that these measures are compliant with HIPAA guidelines - This brings us the peace of mind that our data is safe,” says Thomas May, co-founder of MedHub.

The health industry is not the only one feeling the pressure to secure their data. Earlier this year, Heartland Payment Systems, one of the nation’s largest payments processors, suffered a data breach costing as much as a 50 percent hit in their share price among other fines, penalties, and lawsuits. Forrester Research estimates the cost of a data breach between $90 and $300 per record, which can quickly add up to millions of dollars even when dealing with as little as a few thousand records.

Among data encryption services, physical and procedural data security assurances, Online Tech offers a Universal Threat Management service for intrusion and port scanning detection and prevention, as well as protection against Denial of Service (DoS) and Distributed DoS attacks. Online Tech’s network is constantly being reviewed, upgraded, and patched to ensure that it is secure, and up and running 24 x 7.

“Data security and compliance has become an increasingly important issue for our clients. The new HITECH act raises the stakes of data breaches and the importance of encrypting private data. Our stringent data security policies and SAS 70 audited data centers (http://www. onlinetech. com/data_centers/sas_70/) allow us to provide our clients with the level of data protection they need,” says Mike Klein, President of Online Tech.
