Longview Solutions Launches Series of Initiatives to Help North American Companies Grappling with IFRS Adoption

Longview Solutions Launches Series of Initiatives to Help North American Companies Grappling with IFRS Adoption

Over-reliance on spreadsheets may lead to data integrity concerns, reporting inaccuracies and compliance issues.

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) March 23, 2009

Longview Solutions, a leading provider of corporate performance management (http://www. longview. com) (CPM) software, has kicked off a series of initiatives for customers and other companies impacted by International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) adoption in North America.

The adoption of the IFRS is on track for 2011 in Canada, with dates still being set in the U. S. IFRS will replace the local GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) in both countries as the standard of financial reporting for all publicly accountable firms. The transition to IFRS can be quite challenging, and companies need to better understand what the standards are, how the change will impact the organization as a whole and more importantly, how to properly prepare for the transition.

"The change to IFRS-compliant reporting is much more than just a change to some technical accounting rules and practices," says John Power, President of Longview Solutions. "IFRS will impact people, processes and technology; and will require and/or cause substantive transformational changes within Finance and Accounting areas, and across all parts of an organization."

"Initiating and planning your IFRS project is a critical first step in achieving a successful IFRS transition," says Virgil Colby, Program Manager for the Celestica IFRS Transition project. "There is a lot of analysis, decision making, modeling and communicating to be done before you get close to disclosing preliminary impacts of IFRS on your financials. One of the greatest challenges will be the collection, consolidation and reporting of IFRS comparable data. Utilizing the capabilities of technology such as CPM software enables a smooth IFRS transition by providing accurate, consistent, auditable and timely financial results," Colby goes on to say that "CPM applications (http://www. longview. com), such as the Longview Performance Management Platform, provide a strong complement to enhance General Ledger (GL) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in providing an effective way to handle the far-reaching effects that IFRS has on financial reporting. For us, the Longview Performance Management Platform was the obvious solution, as it is already in place and standard functionality supports the IFRS transition project requirements."

To help companies grapple with the changes involved in transitioning to IFRS (http://www. longview. com/ifrswhitepaper), Longview has launched a series of initiatives, including:

Whitepapers
Throughout 2009, Longview will be posting a series of papers on topics related to IFRS, including: adoption status in North America; transitioning to IFRS; IFRS and CPM; and IFRS, Tax Reporting (http://www. longview. com/tax) and IAS 12. The first in this series, titled In North America, the IFRS Train has Left the Station: Is your company going to be on it … or running to catch up?, is now available. Please visit www. longview. com/ifrswhitepaper (http://www. longview. com/ifrswhitepaper) to download your free copy.

Webcasts
Longview will produce a series of webcasts on IFRS-related topics. The first, titled "IFRS - How to Assess Your Financial Readiness", features Don Newell, Deloitte Partner and National IFRS Leader, and Tony Wright, Longview's Vice President of Product Management, discussing the impact of IFRS and where CPM can help.

Coffee Talks
In an ongoing series of webcasts available only to its customers, Longview Solutions provides periodic updates on IFRS to help customers learn how to build and implement an effective IFRS adoption plan, and emphasize how Longview Consolidation can help facilitate the IFRS transition. Customers wishing to participate need only send an e-mail request to Longview at info (at) longview (dot) com.

Breakfast Seminar
Together with PricewaterhouseCoopers and MicroStrategy, Longview is hosting a breakfast seminar titled "IFRS: Lessons Learned from 100 Countries--Top 10 Things You Need To Know" on March 25th in Toronto at the MaRs Discovery District. To register please go to https://resource. microstrategy. com/ResourceCenter/?rid=2643&CID=3150b (https://resource. microstrategy. com/ResourceCenter/?rid=2643&CID=3150b)

Customer Conference
With the theme of "Converge, Connect, Collaborate", Longview's customer conference, Dialog 2009, scheduled for May 11-14 in Dallas, will feature IFRS-related sessions led by subject matter experts and customers who have completed or are currently involved in an IFRS transition project. To view the complete Dialog 2009 agenda, please visit http://dialog. longview. com/agenda/ (http://dialog. longview. com/agenda/).

Air Mattresses by Natural Form Are Now Motor-Free

Air Mattresses by Natural Form Are Now Motor-Free

Natural Form’s air mattresses are now completely motor-free, pump-free, and quiet; Zero noise yields better sleep.

Hoosick Falls, NY (PRWEB) May 11, 2010

Natural Form’s air mattresses – now motor-free and pump-free – provide solid, long-lasting, silent support by use of patented self-adjusting technology. A major component of healthy and restful sleep is uninterrupted sleep in a quiet environment.

Natural Form’s self-adjusting mattress operates without a motor or air pump, utilizing an inaudible patented air suspension system with an intake/release valves system as its power source. Unlike other air mattresses, which are constructed with a noisy pump and motor, the Natural Form mattress makes no sound at all, ensuring silence and an optimum sleep environment.

The self-adjusting, motor-free Natural Form technology provides pressure relief to match individual sleep needs. And the Natural Form Sleep System is error-free – there is no need to worry about mechanical problems or the use of electricity. This system was created to offer peace of mind and to ensure outstanding pressure relief using technologies such as:
Patented air valves – This unique element provides perfect, full-body support through independent air cylinders. Each cylinder adjusts silently to movements throughout the night, creating a vacuum by atmospheric pressure, thereby reducing pressure over entire body.  Industrial polyurethane air cylinders – To ensure the longevity of Natural Form’s motor-free, self-adjusting sleep system, these industrial-strength air cylinders are radio frequency sealed, making them 10 times stronger than vulcanized rubber or vinyl.  Dual adjustable comfort control dial – Each side of the Natural Form motor-free mattress has a comfort dial to control the amount of air that passes through the patented valves on either side of the mattress. This allows to easily adjust the mattress for a desired level of softness or firmness from night to night.

Noise may prevent people from falling into deep sleep, which is essential for everyone. The patented technology of the Natural Form Sleep System motor-free air mattress guarantees a quiet sleep and comfortable rest all night long.

NYC Hair Shaman is Curing and Treating Hair with Customized Natural Rainforest Treatments

NYC Hair Shaman is Curing and Treating Hair with Customized Natural Rainforest Treatments

Fabian Lliguin, notable New York City hair stylist and color expert, proudly introduces a revolution in the care and treatment of hair: Rahua Nut Oil and Dragon Tree Sap, two potent natural curing serums for the hair derived directly from the Amazon Rainforest. These products are being used by Mr. Lliguin at his New York City Hair Studio to treat and beautify many of his clients' hair and scalp issues. For the first time ever, clients can experience natural solutions to many scalp and hair maladies, or simply beautify their hair with these all-natural treatments which have been used by the Quechuan Indians of the Amazon Rainforest for hundreds of years. Passed down from generation to generation, these natives have been harvesting and converting these natural products into healing remedies. Now Mr. Lliguin has brought these secrets exclusively to his clients; you cannot and will not find these treatments anywhere else in all of North America. In addition, 50% of the proceeds from use of this treatment by Mr. Lliguin go directly back to the Quechuan Indians in their fight to preserve the Amazon Rainforest.

(PRWEB) June 17, 2005

Many people today struggle with dry, damaged, brittle, dull, overexposed hair, split ends or many scalp maladies. Until now many men and women have had to resort to over-the-counter treatments like body shampoos or dry scalp shampoos which contain harsh chemicals which eventually damage the hair even more, or expensive prescription treatments or other salon treatments, which often yield paltry results. The time, money and frustration spent on traditional products and services (along with the unsatisfactory results) have made these customized natural treatments personally developed by Mr. Lliguin as the perfect answer for many of todayÂ’s common hair and scalp problems.

The Creator

These two serums, Rahua Nut Oil and Dragon Tree Sap, have been perfected by Fabian Lliguin over the past six years. Mr. Lliguin, a 20-year veteran of the hair industry, comes from a long line of hairstylists from his native Ecuador. He trained with Vidal Sassoon, Wella, Lanza, Redken and more, and has worked throughout Europe including London, Monaco, Paris, and Berlin, as well as as throughout South America. He has styled for New York CityÂ’s "Fashion Week," and his expert opinion is often sought after by upscale media publications. Since coming to America in 1986, Mr. Lliguin has owned and operated several salons in New York City, most recently Cocoon Hair Studio on the Upper East Side in Manhattan.

Developing a close and intimate relationship with his clients, Mr. Lliguin sought to create a safe and effective means to help his clients take control of their hair and scalp issues including scalp maladies; dry; overexposed; and brittle hair. Using his twenty years of experience, Mr. Lliguin has become an ecological agent for the Amazon Rainforest. As a result of his longstanding personal relationship with the Quechuan Indians of the Amazon Rainforest, Mr. Lliguin has spent six years perfecting these two serums that give his clients real and lasting permanent results.

Using these rainforest remedies to customize a treatment has yielded astounding results! Clients have been cured of scalp maladies, and Mr. Lliguin has managed to breathe new life into the quality of many of his clients' hair. Because each treatment is customized specifically in the salon to meet the requirements of each individual client, Mr. Lliguin has quickly become known as a hair shaman, using natural products from the Amazon Jungle right here in the bustling concrete jungle.

The Studio

You can visit Fabian LliguinÂ’s personal hair studio, Cocoon, on the exclusive Upper East Side of Manhattan. The hair studio is situated in a cozy ground floor space. As you step down the stairs and pass through the garden entrance you will enter a mini escape from the hustle and bustle of New York City. All clients who visit Cocoon Hair Studio receive the undivided attention of Fabian who schedules one client at a time and personally takes a client through their hair experience from start to finish. Expert hair processes range from dry hair precision cutting, modern color techniques, all chemical processes and of course customized jungle treatments for the hair and scalp. Combining the use of up to date cutting edge products and technology in the hair industry with natural solutions derived from the Amazon Rainforest; Fabian has adapted the perfect hair experience for all hair types. Every client leaves Cocoon with the healthiest and most beautiful hair possible.

The Formula and Process

The Rahua Nut Oil and Dragon Tree sap are two safe, gentle formulas derived directly from the Amazon Rainforest. The Quechuan Indians of the rainforest have been harvesting and converting these natural products into healing remedies for hundreds of years. Client-customized treatments with these two products are administered personally by Mr. Lliguin at his intimate and inviting salon in four easy, relaxing steps:

Step 1 - Assessment and Diagnosis

Mr. Lliguin diagnoses the clientÂ’s specific scalp and/or problem.

Step 2 - Customization of treatment

• After careful assessment diagnosis of a clientÂ’s specific ailment and needs, Mr. Lliguin custom-mixes the treatment using one or both of the two Amazon rainforest serums to effectively cure the individual's affliction.

Step 3 - Application and Timing

The scalp treatment lasts approximately twenty minutes. During that time Mr. Lliguin suggests a relaxing hair and scalp massage which provides further hair and scalp benefits.

Step 4 - Customized Herbal Infused Rinse

Mr. Lliguin performs a final herbal-infused rinse to seal in the benefits of this natural treatment using chamomile, which opens the hair cuticles, along with herbs indigenous to the Amazon Rainforest,

Depending on the scalp or hair issues, a client may require two to three treatments; however, many clients have seen instant, permanent results for their specific hair malady in just one treatment! But wait, thereÂ’s even more --

Used by itself, the Dragon Tree Sap is a natural volumizer for the hair. Aside from these two serums having healing and therapeutic attributes, Mr. Lliguin uses the Dragon Tree Sap during a clientÂ’s blow out for a finished result that is comparable to, or better than, commercial chemical styling products providing the benefits naturally. No other styling product heals and styles at the same time. In addition using this product enhances the finishing touches to the hair and enhances the results of Mr. LliguinÂ’s superior

Blow-out.

The Benefits

These treatments are clearly a revolutionary breakthrough. Nowhere else in all of North America will you be able to find these treatments, and you will not find any other natural product or treatment that can achieve the same results. These treatments offer a natural, lasting and easy means to the treatment and cure of many common hair and scalp problems. The benefits are astonishing:

A cure and treatment for scalp maladies of all kinds A cure for dry damaged hair A treatment for Split Ends Strengthening of over-stressed hair A mild relaxing treatment Facilitates quicker and easier blow-outs

Availability

These treatments are exclusive to Fabian Lliguin and Cocoon Hair Studio. Customized treatments starting at $85 and up

Melaleuca Athlete Takes Second Place in the ING NYC Marathon, Wins the USA Women’s Marathon Championship

Melaleuca Athlete Takes Second Place in the ING NYC Marathon, Wins the USA Women’s Marathon Championship

Making Her Marathon Debut, Shalane Flanagan Achieves Best Finish by an American Woman in 20 Years

Idaho Falls, ID (PRWEB) November 7, 2010

Shalane Flanagan, the bronze medalist in the 10,000 meters at the Beijing Olympics, made a dazzling marathon debut by finishing the ING New York City Marathon as runner up with a time of 2:28:40. She came in 20 seconds behind Kenya’s Edna Kiplagat and 21 seconds ahead of the race’s third place finisher, Mary Keitany, of Kenya. Flanagan’s runner-up finish is the best by an American woman since Kim Jones finished second back in 1990.

Flanagan also won the USA Women’s Marathon Champion, which was being contested simultaneously within the NYC Marathon. This qualifies her to represent the U. S. women at the 2011 world marathon championships in South Korea.

During the race, a pack of 19 elite female runners stayed together until the halfway point. The group eventually began to narrow. For portions of the last few miles in Central Park, Flanagan was able to pull ahead. In the end, Flanagan rallied to pass Mary Keitany, but Edna Kiplagat surged to cross the line first.

As she finished the race, Flanagan was overwhelmed with emotion. Since she was young, she said, Flanagan has dreamed about being a marathon runner.

"I couldn’t be more pleased in my first marathon debut. I just felt so prepared," she said during a television interview Sunday. "My team really prepared me for this moment and this day. I just felt good, so I just tried to be calm and collected."

The NYC Marathon is the largest sporting event in the world. With 45,344 runners this year, an estimated two million spectators lined the 26.2-mile course. Shalane wins a $65,000 purse as the women’s NYC Marathon runner-up and $40,000 for first place as the USA Women’s Marathon Champion.

Melaleuca supports several Olympic and world-class athletes who use Melaleuca products as part of their daily training. Before Shalane won her Olympic medal in 2008, Melaleuca had a strong relationship with Shalane in helping her reach her Olympic goals.

Melaleuca President McKay Christensen said on Sunday, “Melaleuca is so proud of Shalane! She has once again shown the world that she is a true champion. This is just another great moment in her career and all of Melaleuca’s customers and employees around the world congratulate Shalane on her great achievement!”

April Large-Area TFT LCD Shipments Down 6% M/M; Revenues Down 4% M/M

April Large-Area TFT LCD Shipments Down 6% M/M; Revenues Down 4% M/M

All Panel Makers Except BOE, Sharp, HannStar, IPS Alpha and Tianma Saw Monthly Decline

Austin, TX (Vocus) May 21, 2010

April 2010 shipments of large-area TFT LCD panels were 53.9 million units, down 6% from March, and revenues were 7.1 billion, down 4% M/M, according to the DisplaySearch Monthly TFT LCD Shipment Database (http://www. displaysearch. com/cps/rde/xchg/displaysearch/hs. xsl/monthly_tft_lcd_shipment_database. asp). Despite this, the results were significantly better than a year ago, as shipments increased 34% Y/Y and revenues were up 72% Y/Y.

Large-area TFT LCD shipments have consecutively grown for the past 16 months, except in October 2009 and February 2010. The October decline was due to inventory adjustments by PC and IT brands, while the February decline was due to the shorter working days during the Chinese New Year holiday. However, the April shipment and revenue declines may be a sign of downstream inventory adjustment and end-market demand slowdown in the notebook PC, monitor and TV sectors.

According to David Hsieh (http://www. displaysearch. com/cps/rde/xchg/displaysearch/hs. xsl/analysts_dhsieh. asp), Vice President of DisplaySearch, “The April results indicate that TFT LCD might be entering a panel price and inventory correction period in Q2’10 as we previously forecasted. While there were slowdowns in the notebook and monitor sectors, TV panel shipments remained the same as the previous month. Although the TV panel demand in China is declining due to inventory adjustments, demand is still healthy from the global TV brands.”

Hsieh added, “It is to be expected that the panel price will fall gradually in Q2’10 due to the slowdown in demand. However, we do not think the price decline will be drastic, because several components are in tight supply. It is also possible that panel makers will adjust their utilization before they reduce prices. Global economic conditions still support a strong demand year, so we remain optimistic for the second half of the year.”

Additional highlights from the DisplaySearch Monthly TFT LCD Shipment Database:
On a unit basis, LG Display was the leader with 23.4% market share, followed by Samsung with 21.5%, Chimei Innolux with 18.5%, and AUO with 17.9%. On a revenue basis, Samsung was the leader with 26.5% market share, followed by LG Display with 23.7%, Chimei Innolux with 15.8%, and AUO with 15.7%. LCD shipments for portable PCs (including notebook and mini-note) and for monitors showed M/M declines (Table 1). TV panel shipments remained flat. Among the 18 large-area TFT LCD companies reported, all experienced a monthly decline in April except BOE, Sharp, HannStar, IPS Alpha and Tianma (the former SVA NEC). Large-area TFT LCD shipments reached 8.1 million square meters in April, down 4% M/M, but up 45% Y/Y. Mini-note (5.0-11.6”, including 9.7”) panel shipments were 4.0 million in April, slightly down from March. The Premium Version of the Monthly TFT LCD Shipment Database (http://www. displaysearch. com/cps/rde/xchg/displaysearch/hs. xsl/monthly_tft_lcd_shipment_database. asp) includes shipment data by suppliers for each application and screen size. Veterans Are Building Careers With Goodwill’s Help

Veterans Are Building Careers With Goodwill’s Help

Job Training and Community-based Services Help Veterans Lead Independent Lives

Rockville, MD (Vocus) November 11, 2010

Veterans have made sacrifices to serve our country and they deserve nothing less than our full support to successfully reintegrate back into civilian society. When veterans return, they often face difficulties making the transition from active duty to civilian life. Balancing this transition during tough economic times, and a slow job market can be a struggle for returning veterans who are already facing other challenges, such as mental health problems, homelessness and family financial obligations. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that one in five veterans spend six months or longer looking for work when they return home.

Goodwill® agencies have a long history of helping veterans get the job training and career and community-based services they need to ensure that they can earn paychecks and be independent. Going to work and being able to provide for themselves and their families is core to a veteran’s establishment of well-being and self-sufficiency. This Veterans Day and everyday, Goodwill works to help veterans gain the skills they need to become valued employees in their communities.

“Last year, Goodwill agencies served more than 21,000 veterans,” said Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “In addition to job training, Goodwill’s holistic approach also provides veterans with services such as access to healthcare and mental health services, tax assistance, housing or housing referrals and other rehabilitation services.”

Local Goodwill agencies work with veterans’ and government agencies and nonprofit organizations to give veterans the integrated services they need to build their careers and care for their families. Goodwills also maintain relationships with employers in their communities to find job leads for veterans who are ready to work.

One such veteran is Richard Rickis. Richard earned two Purple Hearts for his bravery and service during the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, Richard had a long career in business, management and retail. After loosing his most recent job, however, he applied for other work with no luck. Days turned into months and months turned into one and a half years without employment. A veterans’ agency referred Richard to Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida (North Fort Myers) for help in finding a job. A Goodwill counselor gave Richard tips on improving his resume and discussed his career goals. He learned that there was a job opening at one of the Goodwill’s stores, and jumped at the chance to work for a nonprofit organization. He applied, got the job and now works as a shift supervisor for the Goodwill.

“I am most grateful to Goodwill Industries® for hiring me,” said Rickis. “Veterans and older workers in today’s job market have more difficulties (finding work) than the average worker.”

“When people shop and donate to Goodwill, they are helping people like Richard and other veterans build their careers and contribute to their communities, “said Gibbons.

EX-wives, EX mothers, EX workers, EX believers, EX wealthy, EX young, They are “EX in the City”, and it’s often EX without the Sex. Heaven help you if you are over 60 - then you are invisible, nearly EXtinct!!

A new website has just launched, http://www. exinthecity. com targeting women of all ages, who find themselves in state of “EX”. The site offers resources, support, community, and practical tools for dealing with this EXodus which leads to self actualization and reinvention.

The site is aimed at women in one of the Five Stages of “EX”.

1. EXILE – The first state of EX usually involves some kind of physical exile from the world. You feel EXposed, EXhausted, Excluded. Often there is the terror or re-engagement with people. This is a necessary internalization, facing the demons of the past and preparing for the road ahead.

2. EXPRESS - This is the stage where the reality of loss has sunk in and anger has sunk in. There is a need to talk things through, whine, moan, complain and share.

3. EXORCISE – All the transition points in one’s life create a need to Exorcise the demon of familiarity and predictability and comfort. There is an addictive, frantic element to letting go of the past. It forces us to deal with the addiction, find healthy substitutes and move onward.

4. EXPLORE – This is a time of re-emergence, discovery, and a quest for truth. It’s time to start a new career, get educated, take a trip round the world or a walk alone to the local park. Small steps and victories are the key.

5. EXHALE – After some time of panic, fear and worry the time comes to breathe! To say OK, life is tough, I face new challenges, but I am moving ON with my life, on my terms. This is the time of great power and possibility. You are off life support and breathing on your own!! The oxygen mask has been firmly on for days, weeks or months and its time to help others.

New Esco White Papers Document Hydrogen Peroxide Decontamination of Biological Safety Cabinets

New Esco White Papers Document Hydrogen Peroxide Decontamination of Biological Safety Cabinets

Esco Technologies, Inc. announces the publication of white papers documenting hydrogen peroxide vapor decontamination of the company's biological safety cabinets. Hydrogen peroxide vapor is a safer alternative to formaldehyde, which has been banned in several European countries due to adverse health effects.

Hatboro, Penn. (PRWEB) March 5, 2009

Esco Technologies, Inc. announces the publication of white papers (http://escoglobal. com/resources/biological-safety-cabinets/decontamination-bsc. php) documenting hydrogen peroxide vapor decontamination of the company's biological safety cabinets (http://escoglobal. com/resources/biological-safety-cabinets/decontamination-bsc. php). Hydrogen peroxide vapor is a safer alternative to formaldehyde, which has been banned in several European countries due to adverse health effects.

The cabinets are routinely decontaminated in advance of service procedures; before relocation; when the type of micro-organism handled is changed; after serious spills; and finally when product contamination is suspected.

According to Esco's findings, hydrogen peroxide vapor works faster and leaves the cabinet residue-free at the end of the decontamination cycle -- in addition to a variety of safety benefits.

STERIS Corporation (Ohio, USA) and BIOQUELL (UK) are the world's two major vendors of hydrogen peroxide vapor generators. These papers explore the process using both STERIS and BIOQUELL equipment to decontaminate Esco biological safety cabinets, documenting:
Procedures for hydrogen peroxide vapor decontamination Cycle parameters Microbiological efficacy Material compatibility

"These papers demonstrate that hydrogen peroxide vapor decontamination can be accomplished successfully without any adaptations to current models of Esco biological safety cabinets," said XQ Lin, Esco president. "These studies position Esco cabinets as the industry's technology leader, and guarantee customers a 'future-proof' choice with Esco. No other biological safety cabinet vendor has documented successful decontamination efficacy of their cabinets with both STERIS and BIOQUELL equipment."

The white papers may be downloaded at http://escoglobal. com/resources/biological-safety-cabinets/decontamination-bsc. php (http://escoglobal. com/resources/biological-safety-cabinets/decontamination-bsc. php).

About Esco
Esco is a world leader in biological safety cabinets, offering the industry's widest product range. The company, which recently published white papers documenting hydrogen peroxide decontamination in its cabinets, has thousands of installations in leading laboratories in more than 100 countries around the globe. Esco's cabinets have earned more independent certifications -- in more countries and in more languages -- than any other product, demonstrating its commitment to the industry's highest levels of safety and quality.

The USBGC is the nation's foremost coalition of leaders from each sector of the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to work. LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

About LEED Certification

The first step to LEED certification is to register your project. To earn certification, a building project must meet certain prerequisites and performance benchmarks ("credits") within each category. Projects are awarded Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum certification depending on the number of credits they achieve. This comprehensive approach is the reason LEED-certified buildings have reduced operating costs, attracted healthier and more productive occupants, and conserve our natural resources. Dr. Michael Uro Now Has FDA Clearance for Laser Treatment

Dr. Michael Uro Now Has FDA Clearance for Laser Treatment

Sacramento based Dr. Michael Uro in the Foot Doctor Laser Clinic is proud to be one of the first podiatrists in the country to use the PinPointe™ FootLaser™ which has now received official FDA clearance.

Sacramento, California (Vocus) October 25, 2010

Sacramento based Dr. Michael Uro in the Foot Doctor Laser Clinic is proud to be one of the first podiatrists in the country to use the PinPointe™ FootLaser™ which has now received official FDA clearance for the treatment of toenail fungus (onychomycosis). The announcement from PinPointe USA, Inc. came earlier today. “PinPointe™ is the first and only laser to receive this coveted FDA clearance specifically for treating toenail fungus, an embarrassing infection that causes a thickening and yellowing of the toenails. It is estimated that about 10 percent – or nearly 35 million adults in the United States alone have this embarrassing condition.”

There are a lot of doctors advertising laser treatments that claim they work on toenail fungus, but the PinPointe™ FootLaser™ is the only laser that has been clinically proven and has passed the rigorous testing of the FDA to receive clearance. Dr. Michael Uro has worked with PinPointe USA from the beginning of the technology, and assisted in gathering the data used in the clinical study. In addition, Dr. Uro has trained podiatrists all over the world in the correct use of the laser and continues to provide training and support to new doctors who acquire the laser for their practice.

Dr. Uro has been using the PinPointe™ FootLaser™ for over two years with thousands of patients and has seen amazing results. “After many years of not having a consistently successful way to treat my patients suffering with onychomycosis, I am thrilled to be seeing consistent results using this leading edge laser technology,” says Dr. Uro. With the experience Dr. Uro has of providing treatments to so many patients, he has perfected the use of the laser to get maximum results for his patients and help them get free of embarrassing toenail fungus.

For over 30 years, Dr. Michael Uro has been a doctor of podiatric medicine in the Sacramento area. Over those years he has provided thousands of medical diagnoses and treatments of foot and ankle problems. “We specialize in relieving all types of foot pain and are committed to helping you have the healthiest feet possible,” says Dr. Uro. “We are dedicated to providing you the best, most up to date treatments available today, along with the most compassionate care possible.”

Healthcare Technology Provider to Embed InetSoft’s Visual Reporting Tool

Healthcare Technology Provider to Embed InetSoft’s Visual Reporting Tool

Clinical Operations Staff to Benefit from Upgraded Reporting and Data Mashups

Piscataway, NJ (PRWEB) March 1, 2010

InetSoft Technology, an innovator in dashboard (http://www. inetsoft. com/solutions/dashboards/), reporting and mashup solutions, today announced True North Consulting & Associates Inc. (TNC), a provider of healthcare technology solutions, has selected InetSoft’s dashboard reporting software, Style Scope, to power the user configurable report solution in its SaaS-based diagnostic imaging operations application, Clearica3.

Clearica3‘s utilization software automatically collects and integrates real-time disparate data from various hospital systems to create a unified monitoring system, providing valuable up-to-the-minute insight into diagnostic imaging (DI) operations. With the availability of real-time key performance indicators for each DI modality device accompanied by a suite of institution-specific reports, Clearica3 users are better able to identify and address operational performance issues. In addition, consolidation of accurate information permits well informed, evidence-based decisions about workflow and process changes that can increase department productivity. An added benefit is that senior hospital administrators are able to compare their own DI operational benchmarks with other hospitals through the inter-hospital benchmarking function.

“There were a host of reasons for selecting InetSoft’s reporting functionality, commented Thomas Hough, President of TNC. “From a functionally standpoint powerful data mashup (http://www. inetsoft. com/solutions/enterprise_data_mashup/) capabilities were a pre-requisite given the unification of disparate data sources that our application performs. Beyond other technical reasons including the platform being Java-based and permitting rapid integration, InetSoft’s reporting solution stood out from others we evaluated in the area of ease-of-use. For end-users of our application, such as clinicians and hospital administrators, who are not business intelligence experts, interacting with, and even designing new report templates (http://www. inetsoft. com/company/meta-template_reports/) had to be intuitive and user-friendly, and InetSoft has accomplished that hands down.”

InetSoft’s Style Scope is an easy-to-use visual reporting application that includes real-time reporting (http://www. inetsoft. com/company/real_time_reporting/) capabilities. The application is 100% Java at the server level, and HTML, JavaScript, and Flash at the client level. That, combined with its SOA architecture and open standards-based technology, makes for an ideal embedding and integration-ready application for dashboards and reporting. End-users get visually compelling, highly interactive access to data, while solution providers get a highly customizable, easy to learn and quick to deploy business intelligence toolset and information delivery platform.

To view a Flash demo of InetSoft’s business intelligence software application with its advanced dashboard and reporting capabilities, and to download a free evaluation copy, please visit http://www. inetsoft. com (http://www. inetsoft. com).

Texas State Agency Refuses to Make Community Drug Use Data Available Online

Texas State Agency Refuses to Make Community Drug Use Data Available Online

The Texas Department of State Health Services and the Public Policy Research Institute at Texas A&M University possess the nation’s largest library of thousands of local school district survey reports on youth substance use trends, which accompany the statewide Texas School Survey of Substance Use. Despite the survey reports costing taxpayers millions of dollars over the past two decades, very little of the information has been made available to parents or the general public.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) November 23, 2009

Craig Johnson, executive director of the drug prevention nonprofit ProtectYouth. org, called on Commissioner David Lakey of the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to authorize the publishing of local school district results from the Texas School Survey on Drug and Alcohol Use to a document-sharing website Scribd. com and link the reports to their state website. In an October 30th email refusing Mr. Johnson’s request, DSHS General Counsel Lisa Hernandez stated on behalf of Commissioner David Lakey:

"While the Department is required to maintain drug use trends among youth in Texas, the State Wide Survey Report is maintained on the DSHS public web-site. The department will not be publishing the Part I District Surveys, Part III Executive Summaries and the Methodology and Validity Analysis reports on the Scribd. com web-site you proposed. This web-site is not approved by the Department of Information Resources, which mandates what state agency information technology commodities can be used."

Though Commissioner Lakey’s office upon repeated inquiry would not cite the exact official policy preventing them from utilizing the popular document-sharing website or similar tool to deliver the drug trend survey data, DSHS has made frequent use of the video-sharing website YouTube. com to promote their public service announcements for their state-funded and supervised Partnership for Drug-Free Texas campaign. http://www. youtube. com/user/drugfreetexas#p/a (http://www. youtube. com/user/drugfreetexas#p/a)

The Texas Department of State Health Services and their contractor at Texas A&M University (the Public Policy Research Institute) have in their possession the nation’s largest library of thousands of local school district survey reports on youth substance use trends, which accompany the statewide Texas School Survey of Substance Use. Before it became apart of DSHS in September 2004, the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (TCADA) coordinated the Texas School Survey program with the Public Policy Research Institute at Texas A&M University. Despite the survey reports costing taxpayers millions of dollars over the past two decades, very little information from the local survey reports have been made available to parents or the general public and their availability is not noted anywhere on the DSHS website. Even though the biennial statewide results from the Texas School Survey of Substance Use are published online, the accompanying methodology reports have never been made available to the public on a state website.

According to Mr. Johnson, DSHS refusal to publish these reports apparently reflects a long trend of past efforts to keep parents and the rest of the public ignorant of drug use trends among youth in their communities.

“Parents and other concerned citizens deserve more openness from DSHS and their contractor at Texas A&M University when it comes to substance use trends among youth in our communities. Even when legally obligated to provide the survey reports under the Texas Public Information Act, DSHS and Texas A&M have gone out of their way to avoid their disclosure,” said Mr. Johnson. “Some of the obstructive actions on their part include falsely denying possession of the survey reports and attempts at obtaining public disclosure exemptions from the Texas Attorney General.”

In June 2009, the General Counsel Office for Texas A&M University announced their intention of copyrighting the 2009 Texas School Survey reports for the first time in the program’s twenty year history to avoid providing copies to the public. One of the legal advisors with the General Counsel Office at Texas A&M University is Jay Kimbrough, a former executive director of TCADA during June 2001 – May 2002, who was also appointed by then-Governor George W. Bush to oversee the conservatorship of TCADA during the mid-1990’s. According to a 1996 Texas Sunset Advisory Commission report, "Serious fiscal mismanagement and a poor response to problems led TCADA to become the first agency in state history to be placed under conservatorship." Source: http://www. sunset. state. tx. us/rpts1997/tcada. pdf (http://www. sunset. state. tx. us/rpts1997/tcada. pdf)

Facts About The Flu

Each year over 50 million Americans contract the flu virus. According to the CDC, Influenza has surpassed AIDS as a lethal killer and contributes to an average of 36,000 deaths in the U. S. each year, 16,000 more than previously estimated.

Flu Vaccine Development

Each year, laboratories throughout the world collect flu viruses. Some of these viruses are sent to one of four World Health Organization (WHO) reference laboratories, one of which is at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, for detailed testing. These laboratories test how well antibodies made to the current vaccine react to the circulating virus and new flu viruses. This information, along with information about flu activity, is summarized and presented to an advisory committee of the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the World Health Organization.

The findings result in the selection of three viruses (two subtypes of influenza A viruses and one influenza B virus) to go into flu vaccines for the following fall/winter flu vaccination season. Usually one or two of the three virus strains in the vaccine are changed each year.

Survey Finds Americans are Ready to Comply with New US Government Dietary Guidelines

Survey Finds Americans are Ready to Comply with New US Government Dietary Guidelines

LifeScript. com poll finds 54.7% plan to exercise more, but most are falling short of recommended daily exercise and fitness.

Mission Viejo, CA (PRWEB) January 14, 2005

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005 (http://www. lifescript. com/www/PressReleases/01.13.2005/index. asp) has just been released by the government and the plan calls for Americans to increase their exercise and fitness and to reduce their risk for major chronic diseases through diet and physical activity.

LifeScript. com (http://www. lifescript. com/), the leading personalized vitamin supplement (http://www. lifescript. com/www/PressReleases/01.13.2005/index. asp) company today announced the results of the LifeScript Health Poll and found that Americans are planning to comply. “We were pleased to see that the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans (http://www. lifescript. com/www/PressReleases/01.13.2005/index. asp) include increased exercise and fitness, good basic diet recommendations and a new focus on the importance of nutrients and vitamins.” said LifeScript CEO Ron Caporale, “In addition, it is encouraging to see that Americans in our poll are planning to improve their health in the coming year.”

The polls were answered by over 10,000 of the subscribers to the free LifeScript Healthy Advantage Internet Newsletter. Americans pledged to exercise more for their New Years resolution (54.7%), the second resolution was to lose weight (32.1%), followed by stop smoking (9.4%).

However, the current exercise program of survey respondents does not meet the criteria of the new US Dietary Guidelines. The new guidelines call for Americans to engage in regular physical activity to reduce the risk of chronic disease in adulthood. Individuals should exercise a minimum of 30 minutes per day or 3.5 hours per week, and adults looking to lose weight should participate in 60-90 minutes of daily moderate-intensity physical activity while not exceeding caloric intake requirements. In the LifeScript Health Poll, 58.5% reported that on average, they do not get more than 3 hours exercise, the new recommended amount, each week.

The new Dietary Guidelines recommend the consumption of 2 cups of fruit per day, and over 54% of LifeScript Health Poll respondents are having more than 2 servings of fruit each day. Other poll results include: preferred workout location and the gym was selected by 27.8% and the home by 23.2% of respondents, 32.6% of participants report that they get less than 6 of hours sleep during the week and 43.1% of respondents dislike their body. Pediatric Pharmacy Medication Safety Guidelines Seen as Important Step in Reducing Medication Errors

Pediatric Pharmacy Medication Safety Guidelines Seen as Important Step in Reducing Medication Errors

Hospitlized children are at the same risk for medication errors as adults. However, they have a much higher risk---some estimates run as high as a sevenfold increase---of experiencing a near miss. Children are very sensitive to dosing errors and these guidelines will help doctors, nurses and pharmacist to implement safety procedures.

(PRWEB) June 14, 2002

Huntingdon Valley, PA, June 13, 2002 Two national not-for-profit organizations concerned with medication safety, released groundbreaking pediatric pharmacy guidelines designed to reduce the incidence of medication errors among children.

The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) and the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (PPAG) collaborated to produce the nationÂ’s first set of guidelines to reduce pediatric medication errors. These guidelines are designed to improve medication safety practices in childrenÂ’s hospitals, general acute care hospitals that admit pediatric patients, as well as ambulatory pediatric clinics. The guidelines were recently published in The Journal of Pediatric Pharmacology and Therapeutics and will be available on the ISMP website (www. ismp. org).

According to David W. Bates, MD, Chief of the Division of General Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, “Pediatric medication errors are an enormous problem nationally, especially because children vary so much in weight. Our studies have found that while medication errors and adverse drug events occur with about the same frequency in adults and children—near misses are seven times as common in children—and they are particularly important in the smallest children. Ten-fold overdoses—in which a decimal point gets misplaced—are an especially serious problem, and result in unnecessary deaths in children every year. Most of these deaths could be prevented if providers wrote orders using computers that included dose checking."

Joining ISMP and PPAG in supporting the implementation of the pharmacy guidelines is the Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN) headquartered in Pensacola, FL. SPN president, Dr. Linda A. Lewandowski notes, “The prevention of medication errors in children is a high priority for all clinicians and requires close collaboration among physicians and nurse practitioners who prescribe the medications and the nurses, pharmacists, and parents who are involved in their safe administration. These guidelines are the first of their kind focusing on specific practice recommendations designed to ensure that children receive the right medication in the right dose at the right time and by the right mode of administration”. The guidelines will also be posted on the SPN website (www. pedsnurses. org).

Specifically, these guidelines address medication error prevention strategies in three critical areas: organizational systems (e. g., computerized prescriber order entry systems; automated dispensing); healthcare professionals (e. g., building communication skills; performing mathematical calculations; awareness of patients with special needs; and, patient monitoring); and, manufacturing and regulatory systems (e. g., establish safe pediatric dosages; information on pediatric specific adverse drug reactions; uniform bar coding; and, research to determine the safety and efficacy of medications in children).

Children are at greater risk of experiencing medication errors or adverse drug reactions because of unique characteristics associated with their drug therapy, such as:

· Children cannot evaluate and express their own response to medications;

· Drugs may be approved for marketing without any clinical trials in children, even though the drug may be used in children;

· Drugs may be marketed for approved use in children, but relatively few children have received the drug in clinical trials;

· Pediatric dosage forms may not be available, and pharmacies must prepare dosage forms with no standard compounding approach. Little data may be available on the bioavailability and stability of such preparations;

· The medication use process is more labor intensive and detailed for children than for adults. The process requires increased medication handling, preparation, double-checking, and dosage calculations. This increases the chance for drug-related errors;

· Children may have unique disease states, immature organ function for elimination of a drug, or unique needs for drug administration;

· Little to no data are published detailing the nature, cause and effect of drug reactions in children;

· Dosage instructions given to parents and other caregivers are often ambiguous and not easily understood.

ISMP, PPAG and SPN encourage hospital administrators, medical directors, and nurse managers to join pharmacy managers in implementing these guidelines in a timely fashion.

US Senate Candidate Sheeler (D-RI) Says 'Impeach Bush!'

US Senate Candidate Sheeler (D-RI) Says 'Impeach Bush!'

Carl Sheeler, 45, a Democrat, business owner and Marine Veteran, is seeking Lincoln Chafee's seat as well as seeking to unseat "King George" for alleged violations of the US Constitution. Sheeler alleges that, among other things, he has lied to the public and damaged foreign relations and our Democracy.

Providence, RI (PRWEB) February 2, 2006

Democrat U. S. Senate candidate, Carl Sheeler, 45, an outspoken, 70’s style Democrat, called on Rhode Island Congressional leaders to join US Representative Conyers (D-MI) in his call for impeachment hearings of President George W. Bush. Sheeler has stated Bush’s infractions are far more egregious than former President Clinton’s and opens the way for China to replace our global lead.

Sheeler issued the following statement:

“It’s time we as ordinary citizens stop talking and start acting to bring the change we want to see in OUR America. Otherwise, how do we tell our kids we watched the President’s State of the Union Address and did nothing? His is a partisan machine of fear and empty promises. His version of the un-Patriot Act reduces our rights and freedoms while claiming to bring Democracy elsewhere in the world. I’m much more optimistic. We can do better. We deserve better. I say honor our troops and declare victory. Start withdrawing our troops from Iraq. Then we can invest in our American communities and improve our domestic security in Rhode Island and elsewhere. Now that is Patriotic.

"I’m seeing many frustrated people who opposed Alito, as I had. But we can act to fix the problems with this country, such as the imbalance of powers and foreign oil reliance. It’s simple really. It’s time to fire the CEO of corrupt politics and this begins with a populist drive of citizens demanding our Congressmen begin Bush impeachment hearings. Otherwise, how do we explain how this post-Katrina, uncompassionate conservative succeeded in weakening our standard of living for most Americans, gutted Medicare, is working to reduce veteran benefits, tried to do in Social Security and is shifting the burden of healthcare costs from big business to our public with 46 million uninsured? How do we explain an amoral President who does not get results and is violating his constitutional oath to faithfully execute his office by his gross incompetence, indifference and disregard for our nation and other nations’ citizens?

"How do we explain the absence of WMD, lack of armor for our troops, the increase of terrorist acts and Osama bin Laden still on the loose, no exit strategy and unnecessary deaths in Iraq for oil? How do we tell our kids this President cut Rhode Island’s funds for domestic security while he increases friction with Latin America and our other allies who buffer our nation’s safety? How do we explain a President who wants to build walls on our border when President Reagan was tearing them down in Europe? How do we explain invoking religion instead of law to support intelligent design while allowing human and civil rights violations to run amok?

"How do we tell our kids this President hijacked our American Dream, by squandering billions of our hard earned dollars, while wealthy corporate and special interests receive excessive tax cuts? How do we tell our kids and grandkids they’ll be repaying an $8 trillion debt, much of it owed to China? How do we explain there’s less money for their education, healthcare and security?

"I’m a small business owner and educator. My wife and I are from modest backgrounds. We’re Marine veterans and have five children between us - ages nine through 19. We’re more afraid for our future under King George than of terrorists. Government is now in conservative hands under a President with an agenda that does not match the wants and wishes of “We The People”.

"James Madison wrote in support of our Constitution a common sense concern that holds true now more than ever. He stated, “The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.”

"The President has repeatedly lied to our Congress and Americans, broke our laws and abused his executive authority with impunity while his Cheney/Rove machine is smearing others. Like most Rhode Islanders we watched with optimism when US Senator Chafee wrote in “W”s” father’s name during the 2004 presidential election, but then he supported Bush’s nomination of Bolton to the U. N. We thought he’d join the Democrats with the urging of our national leadership, but he didn’t. But words don’t fix stagnant wages or make us more competitive with India and China. Words don’t bring our troops home. Acts do, but my attempts at convincing Chafee to disaffiliate from the party that hold his votes political hostage and blocks our nation’s checks and balances have sadly, to date, failed.

"We waited for Democratic Congressmen Patrick Kennedy and James Langevin to protect our democracy and initiate impeachment hearings and we’re still waiting. They’re national chairs on Sheldon Whitehouse’s U. S. Senate Campaign. We stopped waiting after Sheldon followed Matt Brown’s “stay the course in Iraq” in Matt’s US Senate bid announcement, then they both flip-flopped. I’m not waiting. I’m fighting to get our country back, our democracy back. I’m fighting for my family and for yours, too.

"Our Sheeler for U. S. Senate campaign is about working folks who share our convictions by challenging Americans regardless of party affiliation to engage in acts of patriotism, such as our “Be Patriotic Impeach Bush billboard on I-95 scheduled to post Friday. I’m calling on Congressmen Langevin and Kennedy to do the right thing and fight for our democracy by assisting US Representative Conyers (D-MI) to initiate impeachment hearings. High crimes and misdemeanors, the constitutional standards for impeachment and removal from office, are easily proven for a President who states he’s above our laws. Bush must be held accountable for his many clear infractions. Bush’s misconduct stops when we stand united, so our communities take back OUR American values. “Be Patriotic” with peaceful acts against his monarchy of discrimination and hatred. Start by making a contribution and wearing Patriotic Blue on Fridays until the “Impeach Bush” proceedings begin. Start by organizing rallies, write and send emails, blogs and letters, make phone calls and display bumper stickers and signs. Let’s take back OUR dream!”
