McObject Selects Object Computing Inc. As Preferred Solution Provider

McObject Selects Object Computing Inc. As Preferred Solution Provider

Choice of OCI builds on firmÂ’s earlier successful development of real-time securities trading based on McObjectÂ’s eXtremeDB

(PRWEB) January 10, 2005

McObject has chosen Object Computing Inc., a St. Louis-based software systems consultancy, as a McObject Solution Provider. Under the arrangement, OCI becomes a preferred provider of consulting and services for McObjectÂ’s eXtremeDB in-memory embedded database and related technology.

OCIÂ’s role will include eXtremeDB integration, optimization and application development for McObject customers as well as database customization, porting, testing, and training, McObject President and Co-founder Steve Graves said.

McObject selected OCI as a Solution Provider in part for OCI’s expertise in key market segments and technologies, Graves said. “With deep experience in object-oriented technologies, and many successful client engagements in the aerospace, finance and telecommunications industries, OCI presents the ideal fit with McObject’s products and growing customer base,” he said.

The two firmsÂ’ relationship began, though, via an earlier OCI consulting project in which OCI ultimately credited McObjectÂ’s eXtremeDB with delivering a ten-fold performance increase, as well as enhanced reliability, for its clientÂ’s real-time securities trading application.

In spring 2004, a leading Chicago-based private securities firm that trades in multiple markets contracted with OCI to develop a high performance software library to support desktop trading.

The innovative architecture called for a shared information source with features – such as support for transactions and multi-user access – typically found in database management systems. Performance and reliability were paramount for this component.

Only an entirely memory-resident database could meet both the performance and reliability requirements for the project. Traditional databases with disk I/O, caching and related functions entailed too much processing overhead. In earlier projects, OCI implemented its own persistent in-memory data management, using a simple synchronized file system with logging to ensure recoverability.

However, for the new trading system, OCI sought to shorten its development cycle and enhance performance by adopting a proven off-the-shelf in-memory database system.

During its design investigation, OCI learned about McObjectÂ’s eXtremeDB in-memory database. eXtremeDB has been adopted for its real-time performance and reliability in applications ranging from telecommunications call routing to industrial process control. This track record, along with thorough testing, led OCI to select eXtremeDB for the desktop trading system.

“We were not disappointed. eXtremeDB exceeded our expectations,” said Kevin Heifner, principal software engineer for OCI.

“eXtremeDB was selected because of its high throughput and transactional support,” Heifner added. In particular, eXtremeDB’s new transaction logging support, which improves database durability in the event of hardware or software failure, improved greatly on OCI’s earlier logging implementation and sealed the decision to move to McObject’s database. Initial testing by OCI shows eXtremeDB 's non-buffered transaction logging provides a 10x performance increase over the firm’s previous synchronized file-based approach, Heifner said.

“McObject's support was outstanding. They answered email questions quickly and completely and followed up with phone calls to ensure complete understanding,” Heifner said.

Children International Opens a Community Center to Help 5,000 Poor Children

Children International Opens a Community Center to Help 5,000 Poor Children

Atlanta philanthropist donates a center to help children in the Dominican Republic.

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (Vocus) November 26, 2008

Gordon and Donna Bailey, of Atlanta, Georgia, welcome 5,000 children to their family circle by inaugurating the Bailey Family Community Center this week.

The couple, who sponsor three children through Children International, a humanitarian organization, have been involved with the charity since 2004. On a previous trip to the Dominican Republic, they were stunned at the shocking poverty surrounding them and decided to make a real difference in the lives of those who need it the most. The Baileys, with the blessing of their family, chose to fund the construction of a new community center in the village of Los Tanquecitos, which would provide a medical clinic, dental clinic, library, pharmacy, computer lab, playground and meeting rooms for the community.

Yeurina Baltréz, is a 10-year-old girl sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Bailey, and she, too, will benefit directly from the new center. She will be able to receive much-needed medical and dental checkups to ensure her continued good health. The playground will provide a safe, clean place for Yeurina and thousands others to play. Unlike most children living in poverty, Yeurina will now have the opportunity to broaden her view of the world by having access to a computer and a library in the Bailey Family Community Center.

Having previously worked with companies undergoing transformation, Clare was attracted to the fast pace of Daisy and the opportunity to once again work within a rapidly changing business.

Following a stock market listing and a series of acquisitions within the last 12 months, Daisy has rapidly grown from one regional base with 180 employees to a multi-site organisation with more than 1,000 employees nationwide. And with future growth planned, Daisy needed a clear plan for employee integration and engagement, a challenge Clare was keen to rise to.

“The attraction to Daisy centred on the growth opportunity and essentially how we retain a family-led culture within what has become a much bigger organisation,” said Clare.

“The business is pro-HR and pro-people and I was aware from the beginning that, from an HR perspective, we are only ever pushing against open doors. In a relatively short period of time we have already been able to enhance the employee experience, including the development of vision and values, establishing a people forum and making strides to deliver a ‘Daisy culture’ across the entire group.”

Commercially astute, Clare has always been aware of the relationship between HR driving results, producing clear plans to drive commercial change through performance management and leadership projects.

Since arriving at Daisy Clare has ensured the HR department has become an integral area within the business, guaranteeing all mergers and acquisitions have a clear people plan for integration into the wider group, introducing performance management, aligning strategic goals and ensuring clear milestones are in place for acquisitions.

Chief Executive Officer Matthew Riley said: “As a growing business it is vital that we invest in our people. We have brought our people agenda right to the front of the business and Clare has been central to this.”

“We are developing a process that allows us to really promote learning and training, offering career paths in every area of the business and having in place a process for personal development and reward and recognition.”

Japanese Mercury Safety Advocates Decry Deficient Gov Testing of Dolphin-Eating Citizens

Japanese Mercury Safety Advocates Decry Deficient Gov Testing of Dolphin-Eating Citizens

Although many international studies show serious cardiac, neurological and developmental impacts from relatively low levels of mercury contamination, Japanese government doctors professed they could find nothing wrong with highly contaminated Taiji, Wakayama citizens who ate mercury-toxic dolphin meat. It is noteworthy that Japan's researchers avoided critical tests on children that led Faroe Island gov doctors to call for a total ban on cetacean consumption even though dolphin mercury levels are many times higher in Japan.

Tokyo (PRWEB) May 10, 2010

Japan's Suigin Iranai ("No More Mercury Poisoning") Campaign today responded to the National Institute for Minamata Disease's May 9 press conference stating that no significant health effects were observed despite high mercury levels in Taiji, Wakayama residents.

BACKGROUND
The National Institute for Minamata Disease (NIMD) held a press conference in Taiji, Wakayama on May 9, 2010 to announce the results of its health tests on nearly 200 Taiji citizens who showed high levels of mercury in hair tests conducted last year. Taiji has recently become a target of international criticism and concern due to its continuing mass slaughter and consumption of mercury contaminated dolphins and pilot whales.

A number of the tested subjects showed readings of 50 ppm (parts per million) mercury in their systems, approximately 125 times higher than Japan's 0.4 ppm legal limit for consumable fish and 500 times higher than levels deemed safe for humans by the US Environmental Protection Agency.

Nevertheless, the government doctors reported today that none of the Taiji subjects showed any adverse effects whatever from all this internal toxicity. They said they would continue to study the situation, but for now everything is fine and residents should not be concerned.

REALITY CHECKS
Suigin Iranai researchers will offer a more detailed analysis of these claims and their supporting data in the coming days. Initially, however, there are serious concerns that only one relatively inexperienced physician seemed to be assigned to do the most sensitive neurological assessments for the entire test population, and most importantly that infants and young children were not adequately tested for neural development disorders, learning disabilities or IQ impairments.

The NIMD doctors made no reference whatever to recent widely reported studies by Faroe Island researchers* who did find harmful impairments from mercury-contaminated cetacean consumption when they responsibly included tests of children's memory, language, visual-spatial abilities, and reaction times. Nor did NIMD doctors attempt any such testing of their own.

The subtle insidious damage mercury inflicts upon the youngest is the most tragic toll of this toxin and it deserves the most preventative and clinical attention. Indeed until there is reliable data on Taiji's current prenatal and post-natal exposure as well as their local neurodevelopment indices, all official assurances of harmlessness may be criminally premature. Given that adult humans who are 50 to 100 times more mercury-toxic than banned fish are not uncommon in the Taiji region, the potential risk to fetuses, infants and toddlers is quite obvious and inexcusable.

DENMARK'S FAROE ISLAND GOVERNMENT DOCTORS
URGE TOTAL BAN ON CETACEAN CONSUMPTION
It is rather curious and disappointing that Japan's government and medical establishment cannot or will not show the leadership or protective care that we witness in Denmark's rural Faroe Islands when an even less serious threat is recognized.

Denmark's Faroe Islanders also have a long tradition of eating cetaceans, particularly pilot whales. However, their local government doctors are now aggressively pushing for a total ban on human consumption of these animals due to their increasing mercury and PCB toxicity. The following is excerpted from one of their recent advisory letters.

"The growing scientific documentation has, during recent years, given rise to the anticipation that the time was approaching when it would be appropriate to recommend against human consumption of pilot whale meat and blubber. From the latest research results, the undersigned consider that the conclusion from a human health perspective must be as follows:

"IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT PILOT WHALE IS NO LONGER USED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.

"It is with great sadness that this recommendation is provided... But the times and environment are changing, and we therefore believe that this recommendation is necessary from a human health point of view..." - Sincerely, Høgni Debes Joensen, MD, Chief Medical Officer, and Pál Weihe, MD, Chief Physician, Landslægen (See full text at http://suigin-iranai. jp/en/archives/462 (http://suigin-iranai. jp/en/archives/462))

In Japan, however, government doctors are still defending rather than protesting the continued consumption of cetacean meat even though the contamination levels of Taiji's pilot whales are in fact many times higher than those in the Faroe Islands.

Recent research by Hoydal and Dam*, for example, shows Faroe pilot whale meat only contains about 3.3 ppm methyl mercury whereas Dr. Tetsuya Endo's parallel studies in Japan** show coastal pilot whales typically contain mercury concentrations of 23.1 ppm.

THE NEED FOR A PRECAUTIONARY BAN IN JAPAN
After the sluggish, shameful and now well-known history of Japan's official medical response to the Minamata disaster, it is difficult to understand the current government's unwillingness to invoke the precautionary principle and prohibit mercury contaminated meat consumption until all infants and children are adequately tested and risks are fully known.

The Suigin Iranai ("No More Mercury Poisoning") Campaign therefore encourages the media and citizens, especially parents, to look beyond official assurances and study this issue far more deeply on their own and decide for themselves whether Japan should also ban such hazardous toxin sources to protect public health and their children's mental growth and development.

For more information on this critical subject, readers are referred to the bilingual www. suigin-iranai. jp website.

ABOUT SUIGIN IRANAI
Japan's Suigin Iranai ("No More Mercury Poisoning") Campaign is run by a network of concerned researchers, journalists and activists. Its suigin-iranai. jp website is dedicated to public education and offers interested citizens vital news and reports to help them understand the sources and very real dangers of mercury in our diet and environment today.

For Medical Device Makers, Full Spectrum Software Releases Software Technology Report Called How to Survive in 2009 and Beyond

A Software Technology Report reviewing what small to mid-sized medical device makers can do from a software development perspective to immmediately add value to their products. Download Report Here It provides an overview of current market conditions and what the new definition of software innovation is in this new market. The report covers emerging standards in EMR and how they could impact small to mid-sized medical device makers from a software product development perspective.

Southborough, MA (Vocus) May 6, 2009

Full Spectrum Software announced their fourth Software Technology Report for medical device makers. This report looks at the current market conditions, what the new definition of innovation is and what impact the development of EMR's will have from a software product development standpoint specifically for the medical device industry.

The hospital market is suffering economically and medical device makers need a strategy to make their products more attractive to hospital buyers. Many medical device makers can employ some software development strategies to accomplish this. Full Spectrum Software also examines what can be done from a medical software development perspective to deal with emerging standards. 2009 may be the year that the standards battle begins in earnest. The new administration has announced that there will be funding and mandates for EMRs. However, will those EMR's be based on HL-7, CCR or will they be influenced more by PHR's? Full Spectrum’s Software Technology Report offers useful information on how medical device makers can navigate this sea of standards and still be financially successful. The new Software Technology Report, How to Survive in 2009 and Beyond is a must read for software developers involved with software development for the medical device industry. The report is free and no registration is required Download Free Report Here (http://www. fullspectrumsoftware. com/software-technology-reports)

"In How to Survive in 2009 and Beyond, Full Spectrum Software offers a new definition for what has traditionally been the lifeblood of the medical device industry, innovation." In 2009, innovation may look very different from innovation in 2007. Connectivity and web services may play a major role in both new and existing medical devices architectures. PHR's or Personal Health Records are being touted by software giants Microsoft and Google. Both companies and millions of internet savvy consumers may well influence the shape and format of any new EMR standard.

Medical device makers need to move quickly to catch what could very well be a transformational event in the American healthcare market. As one of the leading software developers for the medical device industry, Full Spectrum Software has unique insight into the future of medical device software development.

Neveron Online Game: Make War Not Love

Neveron Online Game: Make War Not Love

Within this game you will find the thrill of commanding or being part of a vast empire against other empires, all warring to become the dominant faction.

(PRWEB) October 28, 2004

Welcome to Neveron! Within this game you will find the thrill of commanding or being part of a vast empire against other empires, all warring to become the dominant faction. You will need a keen sense of diplomacy, a firm grasp of tactics, and an understanding of economics if you are to succeed. Forsaking any of these points could lead you, or your people, to ruin! This guide is designed to help new players get on their feet. If you have further questions which aren't answered here or in the FAQ please check out the forums. If you still cannot find the answers you need, post your own question or enter chat to ask a veteran player. The Beginner's Guide will be more of an informational source than an instructional one. If you are looking for instructions head over to the Walkthrough.

Neveron is loosely based on Battletech, an old tabletop roleplaying game set in the distant future. If you don't know what Battletech is, don't worry. When we say based on Battletech (BT) we mean it. BT is a foundation for many of the rules and ideas in the game, but we have built and continue to alter and build to make Neveron a uniquely different place. This isn't one of those games where if you haven't read every scrap of BT info out there, you'll be lost. It doesn't matter. All you need is the desire to put yourself in an exciting new world that is constantly changing, growing, and teetering on the brink of war.

Neveron is not a static world. It has only the limits of your imagination. We have been lucky in Neveron to have attracted people who are willing to create adventures for themselves, personas that make things happen in the game, and the willingness to seperate their own feelings and opinions from their character's to make an entirely new person. This is what is called "roleplaying." These people have shown over and over again that you don't have to have the largest army on the planet with the best mechwarriors and an economy that would rival Asia to have a good time. All you need is a busted up hovertank, a healthy imagination and a great attitude. It is these people who pick themselves up after having been brutally beaten in war and make it all happen over again.

That being said, what the heck IS Neveron anyway? Neveron is a planet way out on the edge of known space. Through some random act of nature, it has been blessed with inordinate amounts of natural resources that attracted its first settlers hundreds of years ago. Its out of the way location also made it ideal for pirates, smugglers and outlaws who wanted to hide from the ruling authorities in known space.

Things stayed like this for a long time. Neveron was mostly used by castaways either unwelcome in the rest of the universe or wanting to hide for one reason or another. Eventually, no one is quite sure how; the dueling arenas cropped up one by one. It started with infantry and quickly evolved into vehicles and then giant battlemechs, massive exoskeletal suits piloted by skilled mechwarriors. The battles raged on with people wagering large sums of money on their troops being able to hold the arenas for a long period of time. Soon they became sponsored by unknown corporate entities that broadcast the games to other planets across known space.

Once the arenas became more and more popular the Neveron Gaming Commission (NGC) bought the arenas and completely reformatted them for better viewing. The NGC, headed by President and CEO Donald Reyes, still controls the arenas and hundreds of battles take place there every neverweek. Broadcast to every planet in known space, the arena battles are the source of entertainment for billions of people, and thus bring a lot of money to the planet. This money has brought with it many people looking for fame, fortune, and power.

Neveron is now covered with literally thousands of empires all jockying for control of the arenas, the markets, the planet, or maybe just their own little neck of the woods. You are a member, perhaps the leader, of one of these empires. You may have come for one of a hundred reasons, but here you are, trying to cave out your little nitch. Maybe you're a businessman looking to sell weapons to the arena gladiators, or perhaps a mercenary looking to make her fortune carrying out other's dirty deeds. Either way, you'll find it, or make it happen, on Neveron.

There are two ways to participate in an empire on Neveron. You can start a new empire, which is recommended to those who want the bonuses that come along with having control over the entire empire, but don't mind the tedium of empire logistics.

(This second option, while becoming better is not currently recommended) The alternative is joining someone else's empire. This allows you to get a head start as someone else has already put a lot of work into building an empire to a point where it is advantageous for him or her to have someone helping them. There are huge bonuses for having someone else helping out in your empire. The first is that it is more likely someone will be around to command your troops if you are invaded. Others mostly involve the ability to delegate responsibilities. As the game gets more complex the more real lifetime it takes to stay on top of things. Having more people in your empire allows you to do this much, much more easily.

The popularity and success of its paid search-enabling products has attracted a significant number of investors, in response to which, Fluent has launched its recent PPO.

Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) December 17, 2006

FluentUSA. com announced today that it has initiated an interview process for an investment-banking partner to manage its current $5MM Private Placement Offering and steer the company toward an IPO. The popularity and success of its paid search-enabling products has attracted a significant number of investors, in response to which, Fluent has launched its recent PPO. "We have no shortage of interested investors, but our priority is finding an investment banker who understands the dynamics of the technology sector and can properly manage our path to an IPO", stated Gregory Miller, CEO.

Discussing the Company's investment initiative, Michael Miller, President, stated, "Fluent is rapidly approaching its 1000th customer deployment, and has achieved a number of significant milestones, including triple-digit growth, patents pending, proven methodologies, and first-mover leverage. We have significant competitive advantage in the search advertising market we serve, as well as a seasoned management team with an impressive history of successful innovations."

Fluent's flagship product, CustomerAQ™ (http://www. CustomerAQ. com (http://www. CustomerAQ. com)), is a unique and proprietary system that captures interested prospects--at various points in the buying process--who are among the millions actively searching Google Yahoo!, and MSN each month for information, products, and service. CustomerAQ™ delivers these prospects directly to the advertisers' e-mail box--in real time. By converting search engine users to real-time qualified leads and customers in the buying cycle, CustomerAQ™ is a logical and essential extension of the current search-advertising model. The solution is proven and often achieves lead conversion rates up to 30 times the industry standard for advertisers across a broad span of markets, including retail, residential mortgage, commercial lending, financial services, insurance, business opportunity, and health.

"For over 4 years, they have consistently refined their search advertising strategies and technologies and validated their approach through meticulous testing. They've maintained a steady growth curve through consistent execution and constant attention to detail. Now, Fluent will be accepting a limited number of accredited investors to grow their offerings," states Advisory Board Member, Richard Bernstein of Greenberg Traurig.

Fluent has other patent-pending applications in development, set to rollout in 2007 - that will capitalize on the multi-billion dollar paid search advertising market. Fluent's next product is an advertising management solution that is an extension of CustomerAQ™ and effectively resolves the challenges advertisers face with regard to acquiring new customers through search advertising; it allows the advertiser to tightly control campaign costs and to fully manage campaigns in-house with little or no creative, marketing or search advertising expertise. The application tracks, reports and adapts for customer/lead conversion optimization and maximum return-on-investment-- automatically.

Internet Advertising is expected to become a $55 billion global market, with a conservative compounded annual growth rate of 10% by 2010. Advertisers are shifting spending from TV advertising due to increasing ineffectiveness to Web advertising, with a large percentage focusing specifically on search marketing. Fluent's solutions capitalize on the growth in paid search advertising and enable advertisers to tightly control the marketing budget while maximizing customer acquisition and sales.

About Fluent, Inc.

Founded in 2002, Fluent, Inc. develops innovative search advertising software proven to increase lead generation, customer acquisition and sales. Low employee engagement (http://www. realtimeperformance. com/services. html) and morale can lead to under-performing teams and affect business results. In 2008, a key FedEx Latin American department was experiencing increased employee turnover and low employee engagement.

FedEx implemented a 360-degree evaluation tool from RealTime Performance and virtually stopped employee turnover, increased employee productivity and improved employee morale significantly by 11 points over the previous year. To learn the specifics of how FedEx accomplished this, visit http://www. realtimeperformance. com/case_studies/fedex. html (http://www. realtimeperformance. com/case_studies/fedex. html).

In evaluating their business performance in 2008, it was critical for FedEx to have all their Latin American departments performing at maximum capacity. FedEx was getting ready to launch FedEx Express Nacional, a domestic next-business-day service across Mexico, and needed the full support of all their Latin American departments.

"When a company like FedEx is launching a major national service, it's critical to have the support of all departments running like one well-oiled machine," said Sean Murray, RealTime Performance chief executive officer. "RealTime was able to transform the under-performing department into the highest performing team, ensuring the success of the launch."

FedEx used the 360-degree evaluation (http://www. realtimeperformance. com/company. html) tool to identify critical insight about leadership strengths and areas for improvement. One key piece of information the 360 tool uncovered was the employee perceptions about the managing director's leadership style that led to an ineffective work environment.

Once FedEx understood the issues at hand, a consultant at RealTime Performance put a plan in place to improve the competencies and skills of individual employees. The process enabled FedEx managers to improve their leadership potential (http://www. realtimeperformance. com/suite. html) and the department experienced an improved working environment. Additionally, the entire 40-person department was recognized as the FedEx Staff Support Department of the Year.

"RealTime Performance helped FedEx achieve a competitive advantage through increased employee engagement and leadership development," said Jeff Kinsley FedEx human resource manager, Latin America, Health & Safety. "With RealTime Performance, we have been able to unlock and amplify the discretionary effort of key FedEx leaders and employees, which contributes directly to our bottom line."

To learn more about FedEx's implementation of RealTime Performance 360-degree evaluation tool, visit http://www. realtimeperformance. com/case_studies/fedex. html (http://www. realtimeperformance. com/case_studies/fedex. html).

Dr. Shari Corbitt Named Vice President of Promises Treatment Centers

Dr. Shari Corbitt Named Vice President of Promises Treatment Centers

With many years of experience in clinical and administrative work in the addiction treatment field, Dr. Corbitt says her objective is to support Dr. David Sack, CEO of Promises, to further Promises’ mission, and to help provide a seamless experience for Promises clients.

Los Angeles, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) January 10, 2011

Promises Treatment Centers is proud to announce that Shari Corbitt, Psy. D., has been named Vice President of the organization. Dr. Shari Corbitt received her bachelor’s degree in fine arts (focusing on photography) from Sarah Lawrence College in Westchester County, New York, and then completed graduate work in psychology at Yeshiva University in New York, where she earned her master’s and doctoral degrees. After moving to San Diego, California, Dr. Corbitt became the Clinical Director and Director of Psychological Services at a multi-specialty health clinic on the Rincon Indian Reservation, which treated 16,000 Native Americans from seven different reservations.

A few years later, Dr. Corbitt had the opportunity to become the Clinical Director at Sierra Tucson, a large treatment center in Tucson, Arizona, and to work with Keith Arnold, who was then the Executive Director of Sierra Tucson. When Keith left Sierra Tucson to join Elements Behavioral Health, Dr. Corbitt and her family moved back to southern California, where Dr. Corbitt became the Executive Director of a small treatment center that was re-inventing itself to become a more sophisticated dual-diagnosis program.

After Keith alerted Dr. Corbitt about an opportunity at Promises, Dr. Corbitt said there was no doubt in her mind that she wanted to work there. “I saw a real career path with Promises, a place I could call home. I had been looking for a clinically and administratively sophisticated community environment where I could grow, help the organization grow, contribute to the directors of the facilities, and learn,” Dr. Corbitt said.

Dr. Corbitt said that at Promises, there is an overwhelming emphasis on the relationship between the individual therapist and the client. “We do just as much group work, psychoeducation, experiential work, and psychodrama, but the importance of an empathetic relationship between client and therapist can’t be understated,” Dr. Corbitt said. She added that Promises is also very small, which lends itself to an intimate, emotionally safe, and flexible experience.

“I’ve never seen clients choose to stay in treatment for such tremendous lengths of time,” Dr. Corbitt remarked. “Clients are working on their chemical dependency in the first 60 to 90 days, they’re working on their marital issues around day 120, and they’re working on their parenting skills around day 160. For people who have the resources to stay in extended treatment, Promises is the place,” she explained.

“It’s a game-changer, and not just for the clients but for their spouses, their children, and their children’s children. Being treated at Promises changes the intergenerational trajectory of the entire family when one family member spends four to five months in treatment at Promises,” she continued. “At Promises, it’s not just about the chemicals. It’s about being a spouse, being a parent, and being kind and compassionate to one another. It changes everything.”

Promises Treatment Centers has addiction treatment programs in West Los Angeles and Malibu, California. Promises is part of Elements Behavioral Health, which aims to fill the gaps in mental health treatment between inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services; in co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders; and between traditional and alternative settings to help clients that are underweight or overweight due to eating-related and other issues. The goal is for full recovery and well-being with permanent lifestyle improvement and change, and not just symptom reduction. Our focus is not only on the patient, but on the health and support of the family system. For more information about Promises Treatment Centers visit http://www. promises. com or call 877-351-7506.

Evolution is selling fast!

Evolution is selling fast!

Jenn MacDonald's fiction novel, Evolution is selling fast. Unique book breaks boundaries and appeals to wider audience than expected. Jenn MacDonald will be releasing a new title in the very near future. Stay tuned for this very different thriller.

(PRWEB) July 30, 2004

Evolution is an intriguing science fiction novel that lets you see the world through Kelly McGrail, a down and out recovering alcoholic that finds the true meaning of evolution and how she's meant to be an integral part of the future of humankind.

Take a journey with an unlikely hero.

Kelly McGrail, a recovering alcoholic comes face to face with her sobriety, her mental health and her mortality only to find an otherwordly mentor, a being that wants to teach her how to show her fellow human beings the ways of the wise.

Though her own insecurity tells her that she's not worth the skin God put her in, her new friend, along with others show her the value of her existence and what it means to humankind.

This lost soul moves through a journey of hopelessness and despair to one of great importance, an evolution not to be missed, an evolution that can't be missed if we want to survive.

Reader Reviews for "Evolution"

Reviewed by Mary 8/5/2002

Excellent choice for reading. The book has alot going on and I read it twice. There were some errors in editing but I have heard that the author did the work herself with no other help, not an easy task when writing a book. The writing style is smooth and I too, look forward to her next works. I recommend reading this book and not only to sci fi fans but to anyone looking for spiritual meaning.

Reviewed by Arek Grzegorzak (Reader) 8/1/2001

Firstly let me tell You that I want to make as sincere review as possible. I will write about good things but IÂ’ll write about week points too. I have to add that being European (I live in Poland) my point of view and reception of the book can be slightly different than pov of US or CanadaÂ’s readers. Moreover IÂ’m extremely subjective.

Just like everyone else.

Let me start from the basics. I have to say that the book is nicely written. The style is – generally – smooth. I was reading it just after Gunslinger by King and there weren’t big differences between Jennifer MacDonald's and The Master of Horror's writing. I read it fast and with a pleasure! On the other hand I found few little things/ logical errors that made me smile...For example there’s unintentionally (?) funny sentence on the page 13 “(...)I knew he was being honest. As afraid of his being in my house, I knew he was something more spectacular than a devil(...)”...Well... how does the character/author know how much spectacular a devil really is?

The setting of the story is very believable. The alcoholic problems gives the main character - Kelly McGrail - more life, but the suspension of disbelieve is somehow knocked down when Kelly after the amazing/spectacular/one-of-the-kind/magical/wizardofozish/call-it-yourself trip came to an alien planet and instead of being totally scared or - in the best case scenario – thrilled by all new experience, (she) thinks “what this bizarre alien was talking about while referring to evolution?”. A moment later she is interested who has the ownership of the outstanding bizarre house on the alien planet...If she was Lt. Robin “Flint” Peters ;-) – the space pilot who jumps from one planet to another and kills alien bastards - that would be fine... BUT...Kelly McGrail is human from nowadays and she has never been to different alien far-far away planet. Imagine yourself suddenly taken away to different dimension/Elysian Fields/planet. Realitywise full pants would be more possible than questions about ownership, analyzing the meaning of the words and down-to-earth thinking...

I know, I know : we can say in defense that her mind was controlled by mysterious character named Sacro, but this is a very weak excuse. So – I can’t help - according to me these two bits were very unbelievable. BUT, thanks God, this is the one and only weak point in story and later everything blooms beautifully. I like the master concept that stands behind the plot. I like the descriptions of places and characters. Especially Sacro (from Latin’s verb “sacrum” ?) rules.

Generally I noticed many similarities in EVOLUTION to classic utopias – especially Karol Fourier’s THEORIES DES QUATERE MOVEMENTS (1808), Bacon’s NEW ATLANTIS (1629 – if I remember well) and - of course – Thomas Moore’s work. So - to me - EVOLUTION is a modern utopia updated with sci-fi elements. This kind of stuff is pretty rare in genre so I’m more than satisfied with this novel.

All to all I would give EVOLUTION the strong “Great” mark. These flaws I mentioned don’t ruin the overall high quality of the book and I’m sure MacDonald's next work will be even better. Without any doubt there is great potential in her writing. I will tell more : can’t wait to see the next novel of this promising, talented (and so mysterious) Jennifer MacDonald.

SRC launches Epro version 3.7 Clinical Information Toolkit

SRC launches Epro version 3.7 Clinical Information Toolkit

SRC launch Epro 3.7, a breakthrough release of the Epro Clinical Information Toolkit. The web based solution currently provides the following modules: patient handover lists, clinical correspondence, discharge summaries, lab results, e-prescribing, coded diagnosis, clinical alerts and ward whiteboards, which can be deployed collectively, as a clinical portal, or individually.

London, UK (PRWEB) January 19, 2011

SRC (http://www. src. co. uk) today announced the launch of Epro 3.7, a breakthrough release of the Epro Clinical Information Toolkit. Epro 3.7 helps clinicians, nurses and secretaries work smarter, with exciting upgrades of flagship productivity tools and significant workflow enhancements.

The web based solution currently provides the following modules: patient handover lists, clinical correspondence, discharge summaries, lab results, e-prescribing, coded diagnosis, clinical alerts and ward whiteboards, which can be deployed collectively, as a clinical portal, or individually.

Epro has been developed by Bluewire Technologies, a UK clinical software specialist and has already been deployed at several NHS Trusts including Ealing Hospitals, The Hillingdon Hospital and West Suffolk Hospital.

“Epro provides NHS organisations with a sophisticated, comprehensive and easy to use answer to the challenges of providing a Trust wide Clinical Information solution. For a fraction of the cost of previous generation EPR/clinical information systems, Trusts can now introduce a system which, when coupled with existing PAS and specialist departmental systems, allows clinicians to access a single source of real-time clinical information about patients,” said Chris Hart, CEO at SRC. We’re helping healthcare professionals to improve patient care and maximise efficiencies by giving ready access to accurate information.”

New features
Enhanced clinical correspondence simplifies dictation to distribution workflow
New within Epro 3.7 is access to outpatient clinic appointments, integrated with comprehensive information about patients and any drug allergies. From the same page, clinicians can quickly and easily review historical letters and, through the new integration of the Winscribe digital dictation system, send dictations for transcription.

Patient and clinic context is automatically attached to dictations, and used to pre-populate document templates, thus preventing patient mismatch errors and saving up to 1,000 hours of typing time per week.

Epro now replaces paper based document review and approval processes. Dr. Adam Towler, CEO at Bluewire commented: “The real challenge here was speed. Paper documents ‘load and display’ instantly so we had to make sure we could do the same with electronic documents.” An indexed document power search capability has also been added, which is capable of searching 1.5 million documents for keywords in less than 5 seconds.

Discharge summaries and drug prescriptions now implement DM + D
The new drug prescription capability with the Discharge Summaries module is based on the CfH National DM + D drug dictionary with additional optional support from First DataBank Multilex. This offers benefits of decision support and faster prescribing with fewer errors. Additional safety features incorporating allergy validation and extra help for NPSA high risk drugs such as methotrexate and warfarin are also included. Epro also improves departmental communication between doctors, nurses and pharmacists by offering a live view of the drug preparation and screening process.

Admission checklist with customised sick patient and MRSA alerts
Epro 3.7 includes a new module to drive data collection standards for all admissions, including recording of VTE assessments to meet local CQUINs, improved collection of discharge planning data and information regarding End of Life care. The clinical information toolkit also pre-populates discharge summaries, combining shared information with Nursing Handover and customised alerts for sick patients or those with MRSA.

CfH Interoperability Toolkit compatibility
The solution now supports the CfH ITK interface standards and is able to use inbound and outbound messages for document sharing between Epro and other Trusts together.

Reporting on Clinical Information
An extensive set of reporting tools is also now included in Epro 3.7 enabling staff to access built in reports on clinical data aggregated from multiple sources. Reports can be additionally configured to support discharge planning, bed management and data collection for PCT targets.

Ward Whiteboards
The new ward whiteboard module is designed to be driven with a finger from touch screens. It combines data from PAS and Epro to show accessible real time bed status and patient information in an easy to understand graphical format.

Pricing and Availability
Epro 3.7 is available now, exclusively from SRC. For pricing and more information, please call 0207 471 0100.

Hong Kong (PRWeb UK) September 9, 2010

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) recently showcased its capabilities in the area of space research. With its track record and strong links to space authorities at the national level and abroad, PolyU researchers are now actively engaged in several projects ranging from the making of sophisticated space tools and moon maps to monitoring the health of astronauts under micro-gravity condition.

Speaking at a press conference, Professor Philip Chan, Deputy President and Provost of the University, said PolyU sought to establish one or two special Research Institutes to support the further advancement of space research. The University would also explore the possibility of turning its space technology for civilian use in the future.

PolyU would welcome in three senior delegations from national space authorities in the next two months, starting with a visit from the Centre for Space Science and Applied Research under the China Academy of Science within the week. It would seal a deal with China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) on the establishment of a Joint Laboratory in the middle of the month, and greet another delegation from the Astronauts Training Centre in October this year.

Professor Philip Chan also introduced four key researchers who are leading teams to work on different aspects of space research. They are:

Professor Chetwyn Chan of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences. His team is studying the impact of microgravity on the health of astronauts with a view to preventing bone and muscle loss. They are also involved in studying the use of Transcultaneous Electrical Simulation (TENS) for the training and selection of astronauts, and in the joint testing of an oral-intake herbal medicine with Ginseng, Huang Oi, and Dang Gui as the main ingredient for keeping Chinese astronauts in good shape.

Professor Chen Yongqi of the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics. He has been appointed a Member of the Scientific Application Committee for China’s Chang’E mission since 2007. With the use of advanced technologies, his team has made substantial contribution to the determination of the shape and size of the Moon and lunar mapping after Chinese orbitor Chang’E I completed its historic mission.

Professor Tao Xiao-ming of the Institute of Textiles and Clothing. Her department was invited by the China National Space Administration to design new sets of work clothes for its ground staff at the Control Centre in Jiuquan. Special fabrics with anti-static property were used to meet the stringent requirement of the Centre. This project was sponsored by Cha Textiles Ltd and the work clothes have been in use since 2004.

Professor Yung Kai-leung of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. Professor Yung will be working closely with mainland space experts from CAST on the development of a “Camera Pointing System” for lunar exploration. He is also responsible for developing the “Soil Preparation System” for the Sino-Russian Space Mission “Phobos Grunt” to be launched in 2011.

Over the years, the University has built up a strong credential for active participation in space research. In 1995, the Space Holinser Forceps jointly developed by PolyU researchers and independent inventor Dr Ng Tsz-chuen was deployed by Russian Astronauts in the then MIR Space Station. The University was further appointed by the European Space Agency to develop the Mars Rock Corer for its 2003 Mars Express Mission. (Please refer to the Appendix for a chronology of major happenings.)

Earlier this year, PolyU President Professor Timothy Tong led a senior delegation to Beijing in June and explore collaborations with CAST. During the visit, PolyU also signed an agreement with CAST to formalize research collaboration between two parties relating to China’s lunar exploration programme.

New Online Personal Budget Software Offers Free Relief To Consumers In Debt

New Online Personal Budget Software Offers Free Relief To Consumers In Debt

On Track M*Power provides consumers with a free online system to organize, manage, and track their finances according to a customized action plan.

Medford, NY (PRWEB) April 11, 2007

Getting out of debt doesn't have to cost money or lead to more debt. Over the past few years' consumers have rushed to take out debt consolidation loans and enter into expensive debt management programs, yet find they are deeper in debt than ever before. Pay Help, Inc.'s free web based software system On Track M*Power (www. BudgetOnTrack. com), offers a free alternative that can help people eliminate their debt in a fraction of the time and take control of their finances.

On Track M*Power provides the user with two primary online tools. The Financial Health Checkup offers consumers a quick diagnosis of their financial condition and a broad action plan that focuses on strategies to eliminate debt and manage their income. The Financial Life Manager provides a more detailed action plan and roadmap and allows for integration of the plan into an online personal budget system for easy, automatic management of their entire financial life as per the plan.

According to Bob Lovinger, CEO of Pay Help, Inc., On Track M*Power provides a free, no gimmick, real solution for people to battle and manage their debt. "When I looked at the marketplace and saw how complex the financial landscape had become for the typical consumer, I realized that there was a tremendous need for a no-nonsense and easy solution that anyone can afford. I ultimately decided that my goal would be to innovate the way people manage their money by developing the most effective, easy to use, and free finance management system available."

What stands On Track M*Power apart in the market, aside from price, is the system mechanics. " There are some effective accounting and budget products available that provide more bells and whistles than On Track M*Power," Lovinger said, "but no product combines the ability to develop and live a financial action plan all in one place. It does everything the typical consumer wants to do when it comes to managing their money without having to first learn accounting or financial planning. "

Perhaps the timing of On Track M*Power could not be better as more consumers find themselves in need of financial guidance as their credit card debt mounts and their rate of saving money continues to fall. Many also face increasing home loan payments and possible foreclosure due to rising interest rates attributed to adjustable rate mortgages taken out during the recent housing boom and the steady climb in property tax payments. Overall, consumers on the edge need all the free and affordable help they can find to help fight their fiscal battles.

Additional information for on Track M*Power can be found at www. BudgetOnTrack. com.

About Pay Help, Inc.:

Pay Help's focus is delivering technology and coaching support to consumers striving to achieve debt freedom and improve the way they manage their overall finances. The company provides solutions to consumers directly and through their financial professionals.

School bus drivers, parents, children, and those who have interest in what could or does happen in some pupil-carrying school bus operations will take a journey to understanding and feeling the joy and fulfillment of doing the things they really love to do.

Angelo and the Yellow Giant follows the journey and exploits of Angelo Poole from being a teenager to becoming a lawyer and later on, a school bus driver. Angelo is a handsome lad from a well-off family who, as a teenager, works in one of his father’s warehouses during the summers. It gives him a sense of enjoyment, aside from meeting new friends. Through this venture, he uncovers his interest in becoming a lawyer and subsequently achieves his goal. His creativeness, wit, high-society family connections, and their business acquaintances were most essential to aid the young attorney in building a healthy clientele. But beyond his success lies the extreme desire to become a school bus driver—which he later achieves because of a perfect opportunity. What will be his adventures with the yellow giant, and how will being a school bus driver make a difference in the life of a rich and successful attorney?

Good cooking begins with good cutting. The new iCook™ knifeware set from Quixtar (http://www. quixtar. com/about/) offers five, premium forged, German stainless steel knives designed by renowned knife expert Ken Onion and endorsed by iCook Culinary Specialist, Jason Roberts.

The exclusive design of iCook knives provides ease of use and comfort when cutting. The forged blade combines strength with balance and the weight of the knives is well centered. The knives are designed with a curve along the top of the bolster as well as a curved angle on the face of the blade, allowing for a looser, more comfortable, yet effective grip that provides greater control.

The cutting edge of the blade is curved to match the natural action of the wrist while cutting, while the tip of the blade is lower than the handle, creating more control for delicate cutting, especially when cutting on the bias.

The iCook knifeware set is versatile with a knife for every job in the kitchen.

The 9-in. Chef’s knife is a great multi-purpose tool for slicing, dicing and mincing.  The Santoku knife has a 7-in. blade with hollow ground grantons that allow food to more easily release from the blade. It’s an ideal knife for slicing, dicing and mincing meats, fish and vegetables.  The 8-in. Slicer’s serrated edge is perfect for slicing softer foods like bread, tomatoes and cake.  The Petty knife with its 5-in. blade trims and bones meats with ease and efficiency.  The 4-in. Paring knife peels fruits and vegetables with precision.

The iCook knifeware set comes with a space-saving drawer storage tray to safely store knives, protecting hands and the blade edges.

The set also comes with a bonus DVD, hosted by renowned chef Jason Roberts, which introduces the knives, described proper use and care, and provides demonstrations on proper cutting technique.

No two cooks cook alike, but all cooks cook for the same reasons. Quixtar iCook (http://www. quixtar. com/products/content. aspx? pid=1923&ctg=2150) provides the tools to help people cook healthier and live longer.

Uncovered… Discriminatory Practices at the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP)

Uncovered… Discriminatory Practices at the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP)

An unfair chance at life for minority patients in need of a lifesaving stem cell transplant: Discriminatory practices revealed at the leadership level of National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP)

Lincoln Park, N. J. (PRWEB) November 21, 2005

Matchpia. org, the largest “Grass Roots” effort in the world, with it’s primary focus to promote the importance of educating and recruiting individuals to becoming “lifesaving” bone marrow and stem cell donors, has uncovered many faulty processes with the current National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP – the US registry of potential bone marrow and cord blood donors), which hinder South Asian and ethnically diverse (minority), patients from having a equal chance at finding a donor match.

At the onset, the NMDP registry of donors is heavily weighed to “favor” greater chances of finding a match for patients that are Caucasian decent, rather than patients who are ethnically diverse (minorities). “This fact has been evident since the registry was created in 1986 (funded by HRSA-Congress and DOD-Department of Defense), however, what we realized, is that the leadership at the NMDP has done very little to effectively communicate the importance of becoming a bone marrow and stem cell donor in the South Asian and other ethnically diverse communities”, mentioned Tim Dutta, Executive Director at Matchpia. org, “When my fiancée Pia was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) in 2002, the NMDP said they had no donor match, and she had to undergo four rounds of grueling high dose chemotherapy to get into remission (cancer free). But when she relapsed with AML Leukemia June of 2004, the Office of Patient Advocacy (OPA), and the Chief Operating Officer at the NMDP told me herself, that the chances of finding a match for my fiancée were still slim to none two years later. She further went on to tell me that our ethnicity hinders our chances, as the South Asians are very uncommitted to get tested, and even more uncommitted to going through the donation process… she came out directly and said…you should spend whatever time Pia has left… together. It was almost like saying the end was near, and we had no choice but accept it.”

Having no one to turn to, Tim (with friends, family and a complete barrage of strangers), started a campaign in New Jersey that quickly scaled up like wildfire throughout the nation. “We knew we had to educate and recruit as many bone marrow donors to increase my fiancée’s and all the other South Asian patient’s chances for a donor match, but what we didn’t know, was the lack of support and cooperation we would receive from the leadership of the NMDP. As we arranged donor drives with NMDP recruiters, it was very clear that South Asians were coming in herds to get tested, however, this was not very welcomed by the director of minority recruitment at NMDP, who was very unsupportive on helping us set-up donor drives on a timely manner (we later learned that he discriminated other South Asian families too). There was even a point when the director of minority recruitment wanted to stop our campaign, and shut our website down (which received more than 1.85 million hits in the last year), as he wanted us to do things his way only”.

With many appearances on various media outlets like television and print (CNN, Good Morning America, NBC, ABC, Associated Press, New York Times and other newspapers and the internet), the Matchpia. org campaign soon became the largest campaign for bone marrow awareness in America. “We couldn’t rely on the NMDP to understand the “cultural complexities of our community,” as they only complained about the problem: on how uncommitted South Asian and minority donors were, but didn’t want to do anything to learn how to provide a solution to the problem. However, if you really think about it, if the NMDP performed better in having recruiting strategy in place for ethnically diverse communities, patient families can spend more time with their ill loved ones instead of doing donor drives everyday…it’s that what the NMDP gets paid to do?’ commented, Tim Dutta.

Late October of 2004, a donor match was found for Pia and she had a successful transplant at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle. After spending six months in post recovery in Seattle Tim and Pia returned home to New Jersey to continue to help South Asian and ethnically diverse patients to find their matches while advocating on their behalves’ to the NMDP and transplant centers around the country. “Our cause has never ended, we had eleven patients in our campaign find matches in the last year, and there will be many more to come, as we have recruited over 24,000 donors to date. According to the CEO of NMDP, he indicated that our efforts will provide the opportunity for twelve patient matches/transplants a year for the next ten years,” reported Dutta.

The Matchpia. org campaign grew even larger, as South Asian celebrities joined on board to help elevate the severe lack of South Asian donors in the registry, donating their time to be a part of the Matchpia. org public service announcement (PSA), campaign. Many talented celebrities in the likes of Parminder Nagra from NBC’s ER and hit movie “Bend It Like Beckham”, Ravi Kapoor from NBC’s Crossing Jordan, Kal Penn from the hit movie “Harold and Kumar Goes to White Castle”, fashion designer Anand Jon and one of our biggest champions Manu Narayan from the cast of the hit South Asian Broadway show “Bombay Dreams” became ambassadors for the cause. The four, thirty and sixty-second PSAs were the first ever South Asian campaign ever endorsed by the Ad Council (the industry leader in public service announcement campaigns).

“Naturally, by now we have demonstrated our ability to communicate with our community and effective run a campaign that empowered the whole community to do something about this crisis. Our strategy was to launch a very effective campaign that can touch everyone emotionally, whether you are a male or a female, a Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Christian in our South Asian community. It didn't matter anymore, as the barriers of religion, needed to be broken-down in order to save lives in our community. Now the only thing that matters is the compassion for humanity, and all our commitment to sustain it”, added Tim Dutta, “We’ve realized that once you empower a community, and give them knowledge and the appropriate toolkit, they will rise to the occasion to help save humanity”.

The NMDP receives large sums of funds in the excess 23 million dollars from the Health Resources and Services Administration - Congress and an excess of 34 million dollars from DOD (Department of Defense) – Navy (in the form of fees to recruit potential bone marrow donors), and other sources of grants and private funds to educate and assist ill patients to find donor matches. To perform this task, the NMDP relies on a network of donor centers and official minority recruitment groups to educate and recruit potential donors at the community level. “After several conversations with the Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Chell, it was determined that Matchpia. org would become the next official recruitment group of the NMDP, and was the first group to be invited to apply in the last ten years (official donor recruitment group of the NMDP, are advocate groups whose role are to educate an recruit potential bone marrow donors by ethnic races, there are nine official donor recruitments groups). By becoming an official donor recruitment group of the NMDP, Matchpia. org would receive supporting funds like the other official donor recruitment group to carry out donor recruitment and education (to date, over $400,000 of funding for the Matchpia. org campaign has been funded by the Dutta family and members of the community, who supported the Matchpia. org initiatives, not to mention the additional support of over 1000 volunteers who’ve also invested more than 22,000 man hours to this cause).

“Everything was on schedule, we submitted our application for official donor recruitment status and got no feedback on our application, we were subsequently informed that additional requirements were being added in order for us to become official. From our perspective, these requirements needed to be identified to us in the application itself or told to us while we are applying, these requirements were never mentioned prior to submitting our official application, nor were these requirements ever asked from any other donor recruitment groups”, explained Tim Dutta, “These additional requirements are not just outrageous, but discriminatory as the specifically single out the Matchpia. org campaign. What the NMDP Leadership doesn’t realize, is that any federally funded program, under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, (Title VI) prohibits recipients of federal funded programs (such as NMDP), from discriminating on the basis of race, color, or national origin in their programs or activities. Title VI itself prohibits intentional discrimination. Again, the NMDP is flat out singling out Matchpia. org and the South Asian Community from equal access to a diversified pool of live saving donor matches (this would not be as big an issue if they were privately funded, but they are FEDERALLY FUNDED, and have a fiduciary responsibility to serve all the citizens in the United States).”

The NMDP was originally investigated on their poor habits of discrimination and misuse of government funds in 2001, as this is not the first time they have been accused of DISCRIMINATION…there was a book written about them before called “Deadly Monopoly”…where the NMDP was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of Justice (DOJ) and Attorney General Reno from the Clinton Administration for discrimination before. “After many amicable conversations with the current NMDP CEO Jeff Chell, we have not been able to resolve this matter. In fact, for the last six months, all the Executive Board members of the NMDP have been notified and emailed of all our conversations not having done anything to resolve matters. Based on past history, it is not surprising that NMDP senior management still continues to discriminate South Asians and ethnically diverse communities, but to see Executive Board members do nothing about it, just exemplifies them condoning this discriminatory behavior and not fulfilling their fiduciary responsibly to Congress and the citizens of this country who rely on them to provide oversight of federal funds,” said Tim Dutta.

This week, the Matchpia. org team of volunteers will be contacting members of the “Reauthorization Committee” (Senate and Congressional members who approve the NMDP budget), in providing testimony from many South Asian and ethnically diverse families who have been a victim of NMDP’s ineffective broken processes that deter South Asian and ethnically diverse families from finding their loved ones donor matches. In addition to patient families, there will also be former NMDP employees who will also testify to discriminatory practices of the NMDP.

“It is very apparent that history is repeating itself at the NMDP, and discriminatory practices still exist at the leadership level,” said Hemant Wadhwani, President of the Asian American Political Coalition. “Ignorance will no longer be tolerated from the NMDP leadership, as we will be asking our membership of 5,000 colleagues to contact all the respective members of the NMDP Reauthorization Committee to investigate and enforce Accountability for the taxpayers.”

Sources close to the NMDP, indicated that at the conclusion of this past August, the Director of Minority Recruitment at the NMDP resigned “To pursue other opportunities.” It was later revealed that the Director of Minority Recruitment, who was discriminating the South Asian and other ethnically diverse communities, was also suing the NMDP leadership for intentionally discriminating him. “It is very ironic to see how discrimination is rampant at the NMDP,” concluded Tim Dutta.

About Matchpia. org:

Matchpia. org was formed to provide South Asian and all ethically diverse communities an equal access to a diversified pool of lifesaving stem cell donor matches, while at the same time increasing donor education, recruitment, retention and patient advocacy. This is achieved by providing various community outreach initiatives, and focusing on the importance of being committed and available we called upon for patients in need of a bone marrow or stem cell transplant. Although this campaign started to help find one woman a match (Pia Awal), it instantly catapulted to saving lives of other South Asian and ethnically diverse (minority), patients that needed lifesaving stem cell transplants
