Carlsbad, CA (PRWEB) June 28, 2006

PowerMetal Technologies today announced it will immediately begin evaluation of an award-winning nano-Cobalt phosphorus for potential Chrome replacement applications in sporting goods, luxury and consumer products. The nanotechnology, licensed from Integran Technologies, was developed as an alternative to environmentally hazardous Hexavalent chrome electroplating.

For its development of the innovative process, Integran Technologies received the prestigious Xerox Award for Development & Application of Nanotechnology in Canadian Industry by the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATAAlliance).

“Integran Technologies is committed to developing breakthrough nano materials, and the receipt of the Xerox Award validates their success and abilities,” said Edward Hughes, the CEO of PowerMetal Technologies. “We are pleased to add this arrow to our technology quiver as we see many applications of the technology in sporting goods, and consumer products industries.”

For more than two decades, the CATAAlliance Innovation & Leadership Awards have been the most prestigious annual awards conferred on individuals and corporations by Canada's advanced technology community. They are presented in recognition of exceptional contributions made to the creation of science and technology-based industry in Canada. The Xerox Award for Development & Application of Nanotechnology in Canadian Industry is presented to a Canadian organization for an outstanding technology engineering development.

“Integran Technologies prides itself on innovative solutions that enable future developments and achieve previously unobtainable results,” said Dr. Gino Palumbo, CEO of Integran Technologies. “Our Nanocrystalline Cobalt-Phosphorus is a great solution to the environmental issues created with today's hard chrome technology. Our goal is to leverage our nanotechnology platform to not only find solutions for today’s issues but also use nanostructured materials to create new possibilities. Our partnership with PowerMetal Technologies allows for these innovations to be commercialized.”

The environmental impact of Hexavalent chrome electroplating has been an issue for decades. In reaction to the dangers of its production, the U. S. Department of Labor’s OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) recently passed a resolution to considerably reduce the allowable amount of airborne hazardous chemicals resulting from the process. Integran’s Nanocrystalline Cobalt-Phosphorus addresses this issue and provides a safe alternative for manufacturers.
