GNC LAUNCHES HEALTH LOGICS’ DERMA BEAUTY HA™ ORAL AND TOPICAL HYALURONIC ACID IN TOP SELLING STORES NATIONWIDE

GNC LAUNCHES HEALTH LOGICS’ DERMA BEAUTY HA™ ORAL AND TOPICAL HYALURONIC ACID IN TOP SELLING STORES NATIONWIDE.

The two companies have reached an agreement to distribute Derma Beauty HA™, a skin rejuvenating system that addresses aging from within. A breakthrough in skin care technology, the two product system contains an oral dietary supplement and a topical skin serum that focuses on the super molecule hyaluronic acid.

(PRWEB) July 28, 2003

CARSON CITY, NV (PRWEB) Monday, July 28, 2003– Health Logics Laboratories, Inc., an innovator of science based health and beauty products in the United States, has teamed up with General Nutrition Centers (GNC) to launch Derma Beauty HA™, a two part skin rejuvenating system in over 1,500 top selling stores nationwide. This revolutionary new skin system is scheduled to hit the shelves this September and is expected to be a strong contender in GNC’s Beauty Section. “We became intrigued with Derma Beauty HA and its revolutionary approach to addressing skin health from both the internal and external perspectives,” said Caryn Pollock, Brand Manager for GNC. “Market research shows strong demand for skin supplements and we believe Derma Beauty HA, with its patented Hyaluronic Acid and Collagen combination, will show to be a unique fit for our customers.”

“We are ecstatic to have the opportunity to pursue a business relationship with GNC. The pairing of our company’s dynamic advertising campaign in popular consumer and trade publications with the abundant retail presence established by GNC in distribution ensures great coverage for our product,” says Steve Soofi, the company’s spokesperson.

The unique two part system of Derma Beauty HAÂ’s dietary supplement and topical serum brings together clinically researched and patented Hyaluronic Acid and Collagen in an exclusive blend of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and herbs, formulated to address aging where it begins.

“Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid (HA) are the most crucial substances for maintaining the skin’s youthfulness and elasticity. Collagen reinforces the skin’s structure, while HA retains the skin’s moisture and suppleness. As we age, collagen and HA levels decline and our skin loses its ability to maintain its structure, causing fine lines and wrinkles,” says Soofi. “It is now possible to replenish these vital elements by using the Derma Beauty HA system.”

Singer-Songwriter, and Actress Mandy Moore Distributes Life-Saving Nets in the Central African Republic

Singer-Songwriter, and Actress Mandy Moore Distributes Life-Saving Nets in the Central African Republic

Moore joins the United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign and PSI to distribute nets to every family across the country

Bangui, Central African Republic (Vocus) October 1, 2010

Singer-songwriter, and actress Mandy Moore helped distribute thousands of long-lasting, insecticide-treated mosquito nets today to families in the Central African Republic (CAR), a country with one of the highest childhood death rates in the world and where malaria is a primary cause of illness and death. Moore, an Ambassador for PSI (Population Services International), traveled to Africa as part of a trip led by the UN Foundation’s Nothing But Nets™ campaign and PSI. The distribution of the life-saving, anti-malaria nets was made possible by Nothing But Nets supporters, and UNICEF, who together answered the UN’s urgent call to send a net to every family in CAR.

“It was an honor to join this trip to help distribute long-lasting, insecticide-treated nets to help prevent malaria which continues to kill nearly one million people every year,” said Mandy Moore. “This week I’ve met mothers who have lost children to malaria and worry daily about losing others. It is life-changing to be able to give them nets to protect their babies from malaria-carrying mosquitoes while they sleep.”

While in CAR, Moore met with families to learn about the devastating effects of malaria and the impact of mosquito nets. She helped the Ministry of Health and UN partners hang the nets and educate families about their proper use. Moore also participated in a local press event to raise awareness about the importance of using life-saving nets.

Moore has been active in the fight against malaria since she first saw its impact in South Sudan last year, on a trip to distribute nets with PSI—an experience that inspired her to raise awareness to end malaria deaths. “We’re on our way to reaching our goal of delivering a net to every family in CAR by the end of the year. Over the next week the partnership will deliver over 400,000 nets, nearly half the amount it will take to fill the gap. It takes just $10 to help—I hope more people will join us to make sure these families can sleep safely under an anti-malaria net. Together, we can cover the country.”

Nothing But Nets, a global, grassroots campaign to end malaria in Africa, has helped distribute more than 3.5 million long-lasting, insecticide-treated bed nets in 25 countries across Africa. With the help of Moore and PSI, covering the Central African Republic with mosquito nets will be a key step toward the global goal of ending malaria deaths by 2015.

“Malaria is preventable and we are making progress toward bringing an end to malaria deaths in the next five years,” said Adrianna Logalbo, Director of Nothing But Nets. “We thank Mandy Moore for joining us in the movement to end malaria and helping to raise awareness about the urgency of preventing this deadly disease.”

To learn more and to see photos from the trip, please visit http://www. NothingButNets. net. For hi-res photos, please contact Negin Janati at njanati(at)unfoundation(dot)org.

BACKGROUND
Malaria is endemic throughout the Central African Republic year-round and is the leading killer of children under the age of five. Nothing But Nets, in partnership with Mandy Moore, the Ministry of Health, PSI, the UN, and the Mentor Initiative, plans to deliver 837,000 long-lasting, insecticide-treated bed nets to ensure each family in the country is protected from malaria.

Every 45 seconds, a child dies from malaria -- which is easily prevented through the use of an insecticide-treated net. The nets create a protective barrier against mosquitoes at night, when the vast majority of malaria transmissions occur, and are the most cost-effective method of preventing the spread of the disease. One long-lasting, insecticide-treated net can protect a family of four, and lasts up to three years. A net costs just $10 to purchase, deliver, and to educate the recipient on its proper use.

To date, Nothing But Nets has raised more than $32 million to distribute over 3.5 million nets to families throughout Africa. For more information, please visit http://www. NothingButNets. net.

2010 NAMI Convention to Address Youth Mental Health; Pediatricians Call for Routine Screening

Convention will offer many symposia and presentations

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) June 23, 2010

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI (http://www. nami. org/)) will address concerns for child and adolescent mental health at the 2010 NAMI National Convention in Washington, D. C, July 1-3.

The 2010 NAMI Convention (http://www. nami. org/convention) also will honor journalist Judith Warner with an award for the book, We’ve Got Issues: Children and Parents in the Age of Medication, which explores difficult decisions parents face in finding help for children who “suffer enormously” from mental illness.

Only one in five children who has a diagnosable mental illness receives treatment, yet children who receive earlier treatment interventions have better outcomes.

On June 1, an American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) mental health task force called for pediatricians to perform mental health screenings for children at each doctor visit. The AAP also underscored a need for more child psychiatrists and mental health professionals in communities—to overcome critical shortages.

NAMI maintains a Child & Adolescent Action Center that focuses on child and adolescent mental health..

The 2010 NAMI Convention full schedule (http://www. nami. org/Template. cfm? Section=Functions) offers many symposia and presentations, including:

Former IRS Trainer offers 5 tips small businesses should implement today to save thousands on their 2010 taxes

Former IRS Trainer offers 5 tips small businesses should implement today to save thousands on their 2010 taxes.

Pocketbook Professor, featuring Tax Expert Sandy Botkin, offers business owners tax saving advice and tips that most business owners neglect, and as a result they collectively overpay their taxes by billions of dollars year after year.

Salt Lake City, UT (Vocus) June 22, 2010

When it comes to taxes, most small business owners either hire an accountant or try to do it themselves. In either case, they rarely get the refund they could have and deserve, if they understood a few simple tax laws and deductions.

For most entrepreneurs every penny counts. Most businesses can’t hire an internal accountant to help structure and document business expenses. Pocketbook Professor helps these businesses by offering tax advice and other business training tools.

We have selected only 5 tax saving tips, of the hundreds they offer on their website, that most business owners miss. As always, readers should remember that every situation and business is different. Business owners should continue to talk to their accountant about each of these suggestions before deducting them, to make sure their situation qualifies.

1. Business owners can deduct the equivalent of their child’s education and wedding. Normally the cost of college tuition and the cost of weddings are not deductible. However, if the owner hires their children and pays them a reasonable wage, then those wages paid to the “assistants” for business duties are deductible, up to a certain amount per year.

2. Business owners can deduct up to 50% of their fun, such as cost of plays, movies, football tickets etc., if incurred for legitimate entertainment related to growing the business (i. e. entertaining potential clients).

3. Consider converting IRAs, simple IRAs and even 401K to a Roth IRA. Although this will be a taxable event for the conversion, these taxes can be paid over the next two years. More importantly, the Roth IRA will be tax free for the rest of your life! And if your family inherits the Roth balance, they could receive the money tax free! You will go from having a fully taxable account to being tax free forever. This is a great time to convert since taxes will probably be going way up as a result of our 12 trillion dollar deficit.

4. A recent article in USA Today said that healthcare costs are expected to increase 9% next year. Save money by deducting all your family’s medical expenses with no thresholds or restrictions including dental expenses, braces, eye glasses and eye surgery, deductibles and co-insurance, mileage to and from the doctor, preexisting conditions and more! To do this you need to set up a “Self-Insured Medical Reimbursement Plan.” This is a written plan that agrees to pay for 100% of all medical costs of employees and their families. If you then hire your spouse then you and the kids can all be covered for expenses not covered by insurance!

5. Check for carryovers from prior returns: There are many types of deductions that get carried over to future years because they can’t be used for some reason in the year that you incurred them. A good example would be capital loss carryovers, and business losses that can be carried over for up to twenty years.

Sandy Botkin, co-founder of Pocketbook Professor started the company to help small business owners keep more of the money they earn. Business owners are busy trying to make their business profitable and need access to easy-to-understand tax advice at a reasonable price so that they can be more efficient when they do talk to their accountants on billable time. StaphAseptic Kills Germs to Prevent MRSA Infection

StaphAseptic Kills Germs to Prevent MRSA Infection

Public concern about Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, otherwise known as MRSA staph infections, is at an all-time high after several deaths were recently linked to the disease. StaphAseptic first aid gel, a wound care treatment that kills over 99.9% of MRSA germs, joins the skin care product lineup distributed by Grabber to the sporting goods industry.

Grand Rapids, MI (PRWEB) November 1, 2007

Public concern about Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, otherwise known as MRSA staph infections, is at an all-time high after several deaths were recently linked to the disease. StaphAseptic first aid gel, a wound care treatment that kills over 99.9% of MRSA germs, joins the skin care product lineup distributed by Grabber to the sporting goods industry.

Football players, wrestlers and other sports enthusiasts should be aware of the growing problem of antibiotic resistant germs that spread easily from person to person, due to frequent contact and sharing items like towels or other equipment. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, MRSA appeared in the 1970s as a healthcare-associated infection but over the next two decades emerged as a cause of infection in the public community, particularly among sports participants. Outbreaks are often first detected as clusters of abscesses on the skin or what appear to be "spider bite" wounds.

While commonly used topical antibiotics -- including popular triple antibiotic creams and gels -- have not been shown to prevent MRSA infections, StaphAseptic kills almost all such germs. Proper care should always be taken with any active wound, including cleaning, treatment, covering and consulting a physician.

CHIME, GW Hospital and HIMSS Federal Health Community Host Federal Agency Staff Tour

CHIME, GW Hospital and HIMSS Federal Health Community Host Federal Agency Staff Tour

Federal health IT stakeholders received a first-hand look at electronic health record implementation during a site visit to The George Washington University Hospital, June 14.

Ann Arbor, MI (Vocus) June 19, 2010

Federal health IT stakeholders received a first-hand look at health information technology and electronic health record implementation during a site visit to The George Washington University Hospital, June 14.

The facility, which is the closest hospital to the White House, welcomed representatives from several government agencies including the Food and Drug Administration, Health Resources and Services Administration, National Institute of Standards and Technology and Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, who were on-site for nearly two hours.

The tour included demonstrations of GW Hospital’s Emergency Department information systems, Radiology PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), order management and nursing documentation systems, as well as physician documentation and workflow. While information technology analysts explained how the systems work, clinicians were also on-hand to share how these systems assist them in patient care.

“Inviting representatives from federal agencies to view health IT systems in action and learn about efforts in progress for achieving ‘meaningful use’ helps the health policy community better understand the benefits and challenges of real-world implementation,” said Gretchen Tegethoff, Chief Information Officer and Director of Information Technology at the George Washington University Hospital.

The event, which was held in conjunction with National Health Information Technology Week, was sponsored jointly by the hospital, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Federal Health Community.

More than 35 participants in the tour had an opportunity to network and discuss federal engagement in IT policy and use.

“The tour of GW was a valuable opportunity to showcase EHRs to a broad segment of federal agency staff,” said Sharon Canner, CHIME’s Senior Director of Advocacy. “It was extremely successful in that it provided a real-world glimpse of how hospitals are preparing for achieving Meaningful Use.”

About CHIME

INPUT: Stimulus Drives $4.5B in State and Local Technology Spending

INPUT: Stimulus Drives $4.5B in State and Local Technology Spending

Senate compromises are unlikely to cut technology investments

Reston, VA (Vocus) February 12, 2009

State and local government technology contractors will find $4.5 billion dollars worth of opportunities in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) as passed by the U. S. House, according to INPUT, the authority on government business. The U. S. Senate version will reduce spending in the areas of education, law enforcement, and unemployment insurance. However, it will increase spending in the areas of broadband and health IT. Overall, INPUT projects $4.5 billion of technology spending, which is 9 percent of the grants with a technology component.

"The broadband rollout represents the largest portion of the likely state and local technology investment in both versions of the bill," stated Chris Dixon, manager of state and local industry analysis with INPUT. "Investments in facilities modernization, mass transit, and health IT will also drive technology spending at these levels. Both of those priorities look to survive draft versions of the Senate compromise relatively unscathed. In fact, the Senate version, as it stands now, is more likely to increase the state and local technology spending by $1 billion dollars."

"Fortunately for technology contractors, information technologies are integral to any modernization of public facilities--including schools--and mass transit systems," said Dixon. "Increased security and efficiency is the key in these areas, and both are technology intensive outcomes. The same is true for health IT, where funding in both bills will drive significant investments for public safety net hospitals and clinics as well as Medicaid Management Information Systems."

Current drafts of the Senate compromise legislation point toward an $80 billion reduction to the stimulus package and a minor shift toward tax cuts versus direct spending. Most of the cuts to state and local grants come in the areas of direct budget assistance to states for education, law enforcement, and unemployment insurance. Since none of these grant categories are likely sources for technology spending, reductions are unlikely to affect INPUT's initial estimates.

Contractors can stay informed about the stimulus package by visiting INPUT's Economic Stimulus Knowledge Center (http://www. input. com/corp/knowledge_center/economic-stimulus. cfm? cmp=OCT-mrsleconstmls020909) at http://www. input. com/corp/knowledge_center/economic-stimulus. cfm? cmp=OTC-mrsleconstmls020909 (http://www. input. com/corp/knowledge_center/economic-stimulus. cfm? cmp=OTC-mrsleconstmls020909)] and B2G Breaking Views blog (http://www. input. com/blogs/public? cmp=OTC-mrsleconstmls020909) at http://www. input. com/blogs/public? cmp=OTC-mrsleconstmls020909 (http://www. input. com/blogs/public? cmp=OTC-mrsleconstmls020909).

The following article presents the very latest information on Bonsai Trees. If you have a particular interest in Bonsai Trees, then this informative article is required reading.

The first thing you should decide when considering growing Bonsai Trees is what type of tree you want to grow.

Bonsai are miniature trees grown in pots. The aim of bonsai culture is to develop a tiny tree that has all the elements of a large tree growing in a natural setting.

This look is achieved, principally, by branch and root pruning and shaping, but other factors are also important. The texture of the trunk, its look of age, the moss and the under plantings in the container — all contribute to the illusion of a miniature tree as it is seen in nature.

A presentable bonsai can be created in a few seasons. Cultivating these miniature potted trees is both an intriguing hobby, and a means of adapting a wide range of plants to specialized and decorative uses.

Bonsai require daily watering during their growing season, and, because the plants are rooted in shallow pots, careful pruning.

The type of tree you want will determine not only the tree you should buy but also the design of pot and the types of tools you may require, and of course you should have the knowledge of growing the particular type of Bonsai tree that you want. Not all

Bonsai trees demand the same attention. For instance draping trees will need very different pruning to a conifer and so you should have the knowledge to grow exactly what type of tree you want.

Plants chosen for bonsai should have attractive bark, and the trunk must give the illusion of maturity. The trunk should have girth, but must remain in proportion to the entire tree. The trunk should taper gradually toward the top of the tree.

Sometimes one or two of the main branches must be shortened to emphasize the vertical line of the trunk and give the trunk a balanced appearance.

After this, its time to prepare yourself; you will need the appropriate tools and one good pot at the very least. The tools you will need include various sizes of wire and wire cutters, a small and large pair of scissors, a small pair of

Sharp garden shears and larger pair of pruners to cut through the thick branches. Many places now sell Bonsai trees that are ready trained and have grown into healthy but small Bonsai.

As long as you are careful to pick a healthy and good tree then attention and an eye for detail means you will be able to buy a partially grown Bonsai and help it grow into a perfect full blown Bonsai.

However, should you decide to buy a full grown tree or plant, then it is a good idea to visit the nurseries that stock trained Bonsai trees. This way you can get an idea for what type of tree you want and how they should look.

The information about Bonsai Trees here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about Bonsai Trees or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.

See past the shape the tree already has, but remember when you want to train a tree to become your Bonsai project you

Will be cutting most of the branches and foliage away so it will look very dissimilar to how you first see it. You need to have good vision for this method.

You can buy a Bonsai pot from virtually any plant shop, but make sure it has adequate drainage.

Los Angeles Personal Injury Attorneys Owen, Patterson & Owen Representing Additional Victims of Radiation Overdose As More Hospitals Become Involved

Los Angeles Personal Injury Attorneys Owen, Patterson & Owen Representing Additional Victims of Radiation Overdose As More Hospitals Become Involved

Radiation overdose issues from brain scans, thought to be limited to one Los Angeles hospital and a GE scanner, are now under investigation at additional hospitals and manufacturers. Los Angeles personal injury attorneys Owen, Patterson & Owen are representing several victims and offer a free no obligation consultation concerning rights to a lawsuit or other legal options.

Valencia, CA (PRWEB) December 10, 2009

The radiation overdose problem originally thought to be limited to 206 patients of Cedars-Sinai who received CT scans over a period of 18 months seems to be more widespread than previously thought. Los Angeles personal injury attorneys (http://www. opolaw. com/) Owen, Patterson & Owen are representing several victims and offer a free no obligation consultation to others as new incidents have recently been uncovered.

The Los Angeles Times reports (http://bit. ly/5yL6jN) that additional concerns have been brought to light at Burbank's Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, Glendale Adventist Medical Center, and Huntsville Hospital in Alabama. Health officials have been reviewing machinery at other hospitals to look for similar overdose issues. Officials from Glendale Adventist Medical Center report that upon review, its machinery was found to be delivering an overdose, though at a lower level than that discovered at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. Additionally, Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank and Huntsville Hospital in Alabama are being looked at as having possibly delivered overdoses to patients.

The Los Angeles times story (http://bit. ly/5yL6jN) further identifies the scanning equipment under scrutiny at both Glendale Adventist and Cedars-Sinai is manufactured by General Electric. The scanner at Providence St. Joseph was made by Toshiba. Patients from other hospitals, including patients from as far away as Alabama, have now reported suffering post-CT scan side effects that indicate excessive radiation was used. A radiation overdose information (http://www. opolaw. com/PracticeAreas/cedars-sinai-radiation-overdose. asp) page has been created to follow the lastest news events related to these investigations. In both the Glendale Adventist case and the Cedars-Sinai case, the problem began when the hospitals programmed the scanners with new computerized instructions.

Michael Chee, a spokesman from Glendale Adventist, reports that representatives from GE have been examining the Glendale scanner this week, attempting to diagnose what went wrong. "We don't have a clear answer yet," he said.

A safety investigation (http://articles. latimes. com/2009/oct/10/local/me-cedars-sinai10) conducted by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the multi-slice CT machines used at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center revealed that 206 patients "received radiation doses that were approximately eight times the expected level."

In a document obtained by the law firm of Owens, Patterson & Owen, Cedars-Sinai indicates that this high level of radiation may have arisen from shortcomings in the scanning equipment, which means that multiple hospitals using GE scanning equipment might have been putting patients at risk of receiving unsafe levels of radiation.

Symptoms of radiation overdose include hair loss, nausea, and erythema (redness and inflammation of skin). Long-term effects can include cancer.

"People should not panic, but continue to monitor the hospitals that they go to and ask questions about the procedures," said Rick Patterson (http://www. opolaw. com/CM/Custom/Richard-Patterson. asp), Senior Partner at the personal injury law firm of Owen, Patterson & Owen.

Owen, Patterson & Owen extends its legal expertise to help patients who may have received a radiation overdose and their families. A free, no obligation consultation is available via the company's website or by calling the firm's toll-free number listed at the bottom of this page.
"Our law firm has spent the past 30 years helping people like the patients of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center deal with the hospital's lawyers," said Rick Patterson. "We make sure that innocent victims don't suffer silently. When your health is at risk, you have every right to know what went wrong, why and what is being done to compensate you for the damages you have suffered. It is also our goal in this litigation to make certain that changes are made in hospital procedures which will prevent this tragic mistake from happening again."

Rick Patterson quotes the firm's past experience in dealing with similar cases--"Our dedicated personal injury attorneys played an instrumental role in obtaining a $4.85 billion settlement on behalf of plaintiffs injured or killed by the dangerous drug Vioxx and a record setting $35 million pretrial settlement on behalf of a 12-year-old brain damaged Palmdale girl. We take our responsibility towards the people we represent in personal injury cases very seriously."

About Owen, Patterson & Owen:
Since 1977, the Owen, Patterson and Owen (OPO) team has successfully handled a range of personal injury cases ranging from medical malpractice to birth accidents and wrongful death. Serving clients nationwide and headquartered in Valencia, Southern California, the law firm's clients rely on them to look out for their best interests. The firm's dedicated personal injury attorneys played an instrumental role in obtaining a $4.85 billion settlement of the dangerous drug Vioxx and a record-setting $35 million pretrial settlement on behalf of a 12-year-old brain damaged Palmdale girl.

OPO Law now also represents clients affected by radiation overdose from a CT brain perfusion scan. For more information, please visit www. OPOLaw. com or call 866.654.4947.

Fall Fertilizing: New AllAboutLawns. com Widget Calculates Your Needs

Fall Fertilizing: New AllAboutLawns. com Widget Calculates Your Needs

AllAboutLawns. com new fertilizer widget simplifies fertilizing calculations for novice lawn-keepers. Visitors choose their grass type and enter their lawn dimensions, and the widget recommends the amount and frequency of a standard blend fertilizer that can be used on most lawns.

Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) October 21, 2006

A new widget on AllAboutLawns. com helps novice lawn-keepers determine how much fertilizer they need and when they should apply it, based on a user's grass type and lawn dimensions. Proper lawn care involves calculations and research; often people over-fertilize, which harms the environment, or do not feed their lawns at all. Using a standard blend lawn fertilizer, this fertilizer widget takes the guesswork out of lawn maintenance (http://301url. com/lawn-widget (http://301url. com/lawn-widget)).

Other lawn fertilizer tools typically require users to know the square footage of their lawn or the ratio of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) in their chosen fertilizer. However, the fertilizer widget uses a 25N-5P-10K blend, a standard mix that can be used on most lawns. By simply plugging in the dimensions of the lawn and the type of grass, the widget gives users the pounds of 25N-5P-10K fertilizer they will need.

Before fertilizing this fall, one of the key fertilizing seasons for cool-season grasses, consider this advice from Dawn West, forum moderator at AllAboutLawns. com:

Know your grass type--different grasses have different needs. Apply fertilizer with a spreader for even distribution. Don't fertilize when rain storms are forecast. The rain will wash the fertilizer off the lawn. Do your homework and consider the environment. Fertilizer can be highly toxic, so proper product, volume, and application is a must for community health.

Fertilizer calculations are based on the percentage of nitrogen in the fertilizer. Lawn-keepers who would rather choose a different fertilizer instead of the standard blend recommended by the widget need to know the percentage of nitrogen prior to calculating the amount of fertilizer needed. The variety of fertilizers available and the calculation process can result in multiple trips to the store, money wasted, over-fertilizing, or under-fertilizing without proper research or planning. AllAboutLawns. com has a resource section dedicated to lawn fertilizing (http://301url. com/fertilizing (http://301url. com/fertilizing)).

Http://AllAboutLawns. com (http://AllAboutLawns. com) is a comprehensive lawn and yard care resource. Visitors can ask staff questions in the lawn forum or benefit from hundreds of articles on seasonal lawn care, grass types, weed prevention, mowers, and other lawn maintenance equipment.

Regulating Sex Toys In Canada: A CBC Radio 1 Interview with Online Sex Shop

Regulating Sex Toys In Canada: A CBC Radio 1 Interview with Online Sex Shop

CBC Radio 1 interviews online sex toys marketer for information about Canadian MP Carolyn Bennett's proposition to regulate sex toys labels and packaging. The European Union has already enforced strict regulations on the labeling of adult toys and even bans some that do not meet inspection standards. This would take a toll on the multi-million dollar adult toy industry, however it is a price to pay for the better, according to Hot G Vibe Adult Toys Inc.

(PRWEB) December 23, 2009

CBC Radio 1's "Safe Sex Toys" special edition featured an interview with the Montreal-based online sex shop, Hot G Vibe (http://twitter. com/hotgvibe). The intention of this interview was to see whether or not Canadian sex toy manufacturers would agree with MP Carolyn Bennett’s intention of regulating the package and labels of adult toys across Canadian sex stores.

The increased awareness of public discourses surrounding “Going Green” in North American cities is leading to innovative propositions for further environmental and health regulations.

In Canadian politics, these issues have become a grave concern for the Liberal party, particularly for party member Carolyn Bennett (http://www. carolynbennett. ca/). Being a former physician herself, Bennett focuses a lot of her attention to public health.

In one of her latest letters to the Ministry of Health, Bennett proposed a law to implement a certified inspection label on the packaging of sex toys sold in Canada.

Chemicals like phthalates have traditionally been blended in with silicone and plastic to enhance a toy’s properties such as better flexibility and a more realistic feel. However, recent studies have shown that phthalates cause several health problems. Since then, these substances have been banned in children’s toys in most countries.

In a recent CBC Radio (http://www. cbc. ca/radio/) 1 interview, talk show host Steven Rukavina asked Hot G Vibe’s Marketing Director Geoffrey Mason what the company thought about Bennett’s proposal. “I think in the entire industry, it would affect it greatly,” Says Mason, “As for us, we’ve removed phthalates and do not purchase toys with phthalates in them so for us it wouldn’t be a problem.”

Mason suggests that if the law passes, the entire infrastructure and regulation of the Canadian sex toys market would undergo serious changes. Tight regulations would cause an increase in prices and banning of specific products. However, Hot G Vibe would not feel the hit.

Hot G Vibe manufactures its own products that follow a strict manufacturing protocol. Its main product is a versatile vibrating ring that uses a mercury-free battery and the highest quality silicone. The goal of having tight restrictions on the toy is to meet a higher standard of customer satisfaction. This business strategy also enhances the product and company's image.

Since there are no regulations on sex toys in Canada, it could be a good idea to start doing it. The European Union already enforces strict regulations on the labeling of adult toys and even bans toys that contain harmful chemicals like phthalates (http://www. cancer. ca/canada-wide/prevention/specific%20environmental%20contaminants/phthalates. aspx) and PVC.

In an economic recession, it is the best time for companies to start making changes and becoming proactive as new markets open up. Hot G Vibe has shown that even if it costs slightly more to make a better product, it pays off in the end.

To inform visitors about different toys and to educate them about safe sex, Hot G Vibe introduced a sex education section on their website. It is there where visitors can gather information from the experts.

“People are becoming more aware of what they’re consuming, so giving them more value in what they’re buying is what really counts,” confirms Sacha Shein, Public Relations Director for Hot G Vibe, “We strongly advocate toy users to buy sex toys responsibly and to be more aware of what is safe and what isn’t. Because there are no label regulations on the packages, companies can get away with putting anything they want on them”.

HAPPYneuron Announces Its Latest Memory Game: Cocktail

HAPPYneuron Announces Its Latest Memory Game: Cocktail

On the heels of the successful launch of their memory game “Restaurant,” company demonstrates leadership in memory games and best-in-class brain fitness programs through latest offering

Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) February 5, 2010

Today HAPPYneuron announced their 37th brain training game, Cocktail (http://www. happy-neuron. com/games/memory/Cocktail. html), keeping their commitment to continuously deliver variety and novel material to their brain training program.

Verbal memory and concentration are essential cognitive elements that everyone needs in their daily life. Whether it is retaining information that has just been read in a book, or simply remembering the name of a new acquaintance, these skills are vital to well-being. New technology like cell phones and PDAs diminish the need to engage memorization skills in day-to-day living. Similar to how doctors recommend taking the stairs instead of the elevator to maintain physical fitness, it is important to exercise cognitive skills to maintain brain fitness. As people age, memory skills can begin to decline unless they make a conscientious effort to keep themselves sharp. Playing brain games is a great way to stay mentally fit.

HAPPYneuron's new memory game, Cocktail, puts players in the shoes of a mixologist and asks them to remember information as they prepare cocktails using various ingredients, glassware, and garnishes. Cocktail challenges verbal memory by requiring the user to remember key pieces of information in order to fulfill correct drink orders.

In the game Cocktail users' visual analysis is trained as they scan each shelf and attempt to identify the right ingredients and correct quantity. Concentration skills are also exercised from the time they are presented the drink recipe to the execution of the order. Academic studies have shown that playing scientifically developed memory games (http://www. happy-neuron. com/games/memory) (like Cocktail) can improve recall and other cognitive functions.

"With the current advancements in neuroimaging techniques, there is a growing body of scientific evidence that variety and novelty are essential to improving brain fitness," explains Bernard Croisile, MD, PhD and HAPPYneuron's chief science officer. "These elements, combined with a commitment from users to practice, have shown a positive impact on creating new neurons and neural pathways."

Information about HAPPYneuron's Cocktail memory training game can be found at the Cocktail memory game page (http://www. happy-neuron. com/games/memory/Cocktail. html). It is available to subscribing members of HAPPYneuron's brain fitness program. Membership list price is $9.95 per month or $99.95 annually.

The National NeedleArts Association’s Stitch to WIN Against Breast Cancer Campaign

The National NeedleArts Association’s Stitch to WIN Against Breast Cancer Campaign

Brings the needlearts to the 6th Annual Conference for Young Women Affected by Breast Cancer.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) March 15, 2006

Before the Stitch to WIN Against Breast Cancer banner was secured to the front of TNNA’s booth, the table was flocked by eager young women — many as young as 20 — wanting to know more. “What is this?” “I’ve never seen anything like this.” “You mean, you’re going to actually teach me to stitch?” “I’ve been looking for something to do while I sit through chemo’ . . . this is perfect!”

The event was the 6th Annual Conference for Young Women Affected by Breast Cancer co-sponsored by Living Beyond Breast Cancer, TNNA’s non-profit partner in the campaign, and the Young Survival Coalition and was held February 24 – 26, 2006. Over 650 women— breast cancer survivors, supporters and health professionals — came together in Denver CO to learn valuable information, gather support and share their incredible spirit.

This year, TNNA shared the benefits and joy of needlearts with these courageous women, as well. Throughout the weekend, the Stitch to WIN Against Breast Cancer booth was surrounded by these new stitchers, as they enjoyed learning to knit, crochet, needlepoint and cross stitch during their breaks from the scheduled programming. A few only needed a refresher course as they had learned to stitch as children at their grandmothers’ knees. Most always wanted to know how but had never had the opportunity. Each of them walked away with a smile and a new-found passion for the needlearts.

Many women stopped by the booth just to share their stories about how stitching helped them get through some very difficult times. They talked about the emotional, spiritual and therapeutic benefits of the needlearts – how their knitting or needlepoint kept their fingers nimble and their spirits up during the long hours of treatment.

Local retailers Carole Jacobs of Ewenique Yarns and Denise Seale and twin sister Danielle of Cherry Tree Needlepoint came and brought along volunteers from their shops to help support the event. Joined by Pam Aman, an independent Yarn Sales Rep based in Denver, these TNNA members and customers shared their time and needlearts talents with what seemed to be a never-ending stream of enthusiastic new stitchers. “I’m amazed by the energy and vitality of these courageous young women,” commented Carole. “ . . . and they’re taking to stitching with a real excitement and determination!”

Several of the other exhibitors - organizations and individuals who provide valuable services to breast cancer survivors all over the country – also were excited about what we were offering and have asked to partner with us in their communities. “We really need Stitch to WIN to come to Tampa,” emphasized Stena Campagna, Outreach & FACTors Coordinator of the Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa FL. “This program is perfect for the people we support.” TNNA retailers in each specific area will be contacted and included in the planning of upcoming events.

Stitch to WIN Against Breast Cancer is a campaign created by TNNA to help fight the war against breast cancer through the needlearts. Retailers across the country are holding fundraising events in their own communities to reach existing customers, as well as new consumers, in support of this important cause. Proceeds from these events benefit Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC. org).

TNNA is a non-profit trade organization established in 1974 and is dedicated to the advancement and promotion of needle arts, through trade shows, educational seminars, special events, public relations and professional programs that continue to meet the needs of the industry.

CamelBak® ‘Official Water Bottle Of’ Campaign Goes Nationwide; Three New Teams Sign Up to Ditch Disposables

CamelBak® ‘Official Water Bottle Of’ Campaign Goes Nationwide; Three New Teams Sign Up to Ditch Disposables

From Los Angeles to Austin, Texas, to Brooklyn, N. Y. -- what started in Northern California as a mini-movement to encourage the use of reusable water bottles, has now gone nationwide.

Petaluma, CA (PRWEB) June 3, 2010

From Los Angeles to Austin, Texas, to Brooklyn, N. Y. -- what started in Northern California as a mini-movement to encourage the use of reusable water bottles, has now gone nationwide.

Three wild and wacky sports teams – the Los Angeles Racing Dragons, the Austin RockStars Handball Club and the Zeus’ Beard Brooklyn Kickball Team – have ditched their disposals as the newest members of CamelBak’s “Official Water Bottle Of” (http://www. camelbak. com/owbo) campaign. The campaign is designed to celebrate the less serious side of sport while underscoring the importance of eliminating plastic water bottle consumption and waste.

Chosen by CamelBak for their unique, if not crazy, take on sporting endeavors, each of the new teams shares a passion for having a good time playing a sport they love while doing something good for the environment.

Meet the newest members:

Los Angeles Racing Dragons (http://www. laracingdragons. org/): Though still relatively unknown, Dragon Boat racing, which originated in China, is one of the fastest growing international sports. The Los Angeles Racing Dragons, who affectionately refer to themselves as LARD, have put fun and family ahead of competition, and they have a loyal following to show for it.

Austin RockStars Handball Club (http://www. austinhandball. info/default. aspx): Though fun is a big part of the lure, the RockStars, who are members of the Texas Team Handball Club, take the sport of American Speed Handball very seriously. This intense team game is extremely fast and aggressive.

Zeus’ Beard (http://brooklynkickball. com/zeusbeard/): Just the thought of kickball brings back memories of good times in the school playground. Well, these big kids from Brooklyn, who play in the co-ed league, definitely know how to have a good time while working up a big thirst – for water during the game and a keg afterwards.

They join previously announced members, the Santa Cruz Derby Girls (http://www. santacruzderbygirls. org/) and San Francisco Sea Lions Underwater Hockey team (http://www. sfuwh. org/), who helped kick off the program in March.

“We love our CamelBak water bottles, which, like us, sometimes take quite a beating during a competition,” said Mike Strong of the Austin RockStars. “We particularly love seeing the look of envy on the eyes of the opposing teams as we stay hydrated with our very own reusable RockStars-logoed bottles.”

CamelBak, which boasts two decades of hydration innovation and leadership, wants this program to highlight the importance of hydration in all fitness activities. It continues to look to partner with passionate, athletic teams and clubs that break free from conventional fitness activities. Teams and clubs that would like to be considered are encouraged to visit www. camelbak. com/owbo (http://www. camelbak. com/owbo) and submit an application.

If chosen, CamelBak will provide BPA-free Better Bottles™ and t-shirts with the team logo, as well as promoting the teams on the CamelBak website and its Facebook Fan Page. As the “Official Water Bottle Of,” CamelBak will have water-carrying rights at the teams’ sanctioned events, so members can enjoy the refreshing health benefits of H2O at every practice and every game.

About CamelBak®

Arizona Eliminates Children's Health Insurance Program; Fallout Will be Felt for Years to Come Predicts Georgetown CCF's Jocelyn Guyer

Arizona Eliminates Children's Health Insurance Program; Fallout Will be Felt for Years to Come Predicts Georgetown CCF's Jocelyn Guyer

Children and families will be harmed for many years to come Arizona's drastic decision to eliminate its Children's Health Insurance Program and cut Medicaid coverage. Jocelyn Guyer, an authority on health coverage and co-director of the Center for Children and Families at Georgetown University's Health Policy Institute, predicts that Arizona will be dealing with the fallout from its short-sighted decision long after the state's budget improves.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 20, 2010

Statement by Jocelyn Guyer, Co-Director, Georgetown University's Center for Children and Families

"States throughout the country are facing tough budgets, but Arizona is the only state to make such drastic and short-sighted cuts to its health coverage programs for low and moderate-income families. It is the first state in history to permanently eliminate its Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Its decision to eliminate more than 300,000 people from Medicaid also is unprecedented in recent years."

"Others states have taken advantage of the infusion of federal funds included in the Economic Recovery Act to shelter children and families from the economic storm by maintaining their affordable coverage initiatives. Arizona stands alone in capitulating on its responsibility to help uninsured children and families.
Long after the state's budget situation improves, Arizona will be dealing with the fallout from its short-sighted decision. If children don't get the care they need, it can have lifelong effects on their ability to grow and learn."

Background:

As part of the state’s fiscal year 2011 budget signed into law by Governor Brewer on March 18th, Arizona repealed its CHIP statute, the only state to ever do so. It also made significant reductions in the financing of Medicaid. Together, the cuts are expected to result in almost 350,000 low-income people losing coverage, including about 60,000 children.

The proposed extension of federal fiscal relief in H. R. 4213 in Congress would provide Arizona with funding that could be used to mitigate the cuts. If adopted, the legislation would likely preclude the state from scaling back eligibility for Medicaid, and state policymakers could decide to use some of the funding to preserve Arizona’s CHIP program, known as KidsCare.

"The Boy's" brand new kids menu, coming July 14, gives his littlest customers a new twist on all the food and fun they love and their parents all the quality and value they've come to expect of Big Boy.

Warren, Mich. (PRWEB) July 18, 2008

For decades, Big Boy (http://www. bigboy. com) has been a favorite mealtime destination for children wanting good food and good fun. “The Boy’s” brand new kids menu, coming July 14, gives his littlest customers a new twist on all the food and fun they love and their parents all the quality and value they’ve come to expect of Big Boy.

“It wasn’t so long ago that the parents bringing their children to Big Boy today were children themselves, asking their parents to take them to Big Boy,” said Tony Michaels, CEO, Big Boy Restaurants International LLC. “Kids have always loved Big Boy and we love their enthusiasm.”
A bright, cheerful placemat-style menu replaces the comic book theme of the old menu and for the first time, features full-color photos of several entrees. Different games and puzzles will alternate on the back of the menu throughout the year. A separate comic book will still be available for children who want them and full meals will still come with a fun toy.

New menu items include chicken and cheese quesadillas, “Bosco Stix,” and buttery noodles. Parents seeking healthier options for their children can steer them towards the new “Kidz Smart Start” oatmeal, yogurt and apple slice breakfast or the grilled chicken dippers or wrap at lunch or dinner.

Old favorites like hot dogs, “Spaghetti Spaghetti” and Kraft macaroni and cheese are still available, as are classic sides like French fries, onion rings or Big Boy's (http://www. bigboy. com) famous soup and salad bar. New, healthier side choices include sliced apples and strawberry yogurt.

“We’re honored by the loyalty parents, and especially children, continue to show Big Boy and are so excited to share this new menu with a new generation of the Big Boy family,” Michaels said.

House Passes Allergen Labeling Bill Plain English’ Ingredient Labels Will Benefit Millions of Americans

House Passes Allergen Labeling Bill Plain English’ Ingredient Labels Will Benefit Millions of Americans

Congress has passed food labeling legislation, to require the top 8 allergens to be listed on labels. The bill will benefit the 2 million Americans with celiac disease, and 11 million with food allergies.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) July 22, 2004

Today the House of Representatives put the needs of consumers first by requiring food manufacturers to list the top eight allergens on food labels. The new provisions, part of the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA), will ensure that persons with celiac disease and food allergies can read ingredient statements and easily determine if the product is safe to eat.

The American Celiac Task Force applauds the House leadership for recognizing the needs of consumers with life-threatening health conditions, and promptly approving this legislation. Under FALCPA, the top eight food allergens -- milk, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, Crustacean shellfish, soy, and wheat – will be listed on product labels by their common name. The bipartisan sponsorship of Senators Judd Gregg (NH) and Edward Kennedy (MA), and Representatives Nita Lowey (NY), and James Greenwood (PA), lead the bill to passage.

Rep. Lowey explains, "With no treatment for celiac disease, the only alternative is to follow a strict gluten-free diet -- a difficult task considering that food ingredient statements are written for scientists, not consumers. When struggling to determine which foods are healthy, celiac sufferers should have adequate, clear information at their fingertips.”

For the estimated 2.2 million Americans who suffer from celiac disease, an inherited autoimmune disorder, the bill provides an additional benefit. It requires the Food and Drug Administration to issue final regulations defining “gluten-free” by January 2008. The rules would also set out guidelines for the voluntary labeling of products as ‘gluten-free.’ Celiac disease is a digestive disorder that is triggered by eating the protein gluten, which is found in the grains wheat, rye, and barley. There is no cure for the disease, but it can be controlled through strict avoidance of foods and products that contain gluten.

The bill has clear benefits for food manufacturers, too. “Manufacturers will find the activity on their consumer hot lines decreasing dramatically as they ‘tell all’ on their labels. Full disclosure will make life much easier for everyone not to mention the goodwill this conveys to our respective customer bases”, according to Beth Hillson, a celiac and owner of the Gluten Free Pantry, which is dedicated to manufacturing and selling gluten-free products.

Market shares continue to grow for mainstream companies, which began labeling for allergens years ago. “As a manufacturer, we recognize that there is an extra cost and effort involved in making sure all packaging meets the new labeling requirements. We know from first hand experience it is well worth the effort," said Max Lapin, co-owner and founder of PhillySwirl, a novelty ice cream company, in Tampa, Florida.

Just weeks ago, an independent consensus panel on celiac disease, convened by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), highlighted the need for standards for gluten-free food, and for national food labeling, further validating the need for FALCPA.

About the American Celiac Task Force

The American Celiac Task Force (ACTF) was established in March 2003 to provide leadership on public policy issues affecting those with celiac disease, an inherited autoimmune disorder affecting children and adults. Members of the ACTF represent the celiac research centers, national support groups, and food manufacturers, print media, and service industry. For more information, please visit the ACTF website at www. celiaccenter. org/taskforce. asp (http://www. celiaccenter. org/taskforce. asp) or call 703-622-3331.
