Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 30, 2007

WIRED NextFest 2007 Education Day will open its doors free-of-charge to nearly 9,000 4th-12th graders and their teachers on September 13th. By providing a glimpse of more than 150 future technologies in entertainment, sustainability, healthcare, transportation and more, Education Day will inspire students to pursue careers in math, science and technology when building their futures.

The Opening Ceremony will be hosted by WIRED Editor-in-Chief Chris Anderson and Publisher Drew Schutte. Special guests will include astronaut Barbara Morgan, the first teacher in space, and the entire STS-188 Endeavor space shuttle crew, which completed NASA’s most recent mission to the International Space Station in August 2007. The astronauts will interact with the students, answer questions and encourage them to reach for the moon. In addition, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is scheduled to appear to emphasize the importance of science and technology to students’ futures.

The Opening Ceremony will be followed by an X PRIZE Foundation announcement of its largest prize yet. Joining with an internationally-recognized partner, this "New X PRIZE" will motivate and inspire new generations, much like the previous ANSARI X PRIZE.
