Have you been feeling your breasts? Hundreds of thousands of women across the country are feeling their breasts this October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast self examinations are important because it is a critical step in detecting breast cancer early, when it is more easily treatable.

For many women this can be an uncomfortable experience, they forget or just don't know how or what to look for. In an effort to encourage women to perform their monthly breast self-exams, Dermapeutics has created a new Breast Self Exam Cream.

It increases your ability to feel subtle changes and potentially dangerous "lumps" in breast tissue, and acts as a reminder to perform the exam on a regular basis.

Each year it is estimated that nearly 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die. While yearly mammograms are great at detection and can find signs of the disease in women without symptoms, examining your own breasts monthly is an important way to find breast cancer early. Being familiar with the "normal" condition of the breasts can alert women to changes and abnormalities that may go undetected by a mammogram. Early detection is proven to improve the chances that breast cancer can be diagnosed and can lead to simpler and more effective treatment.

I come from a family of women, and having a grandmother that has survived breast cancer, I know it is important to take care of my health. Even with a history of breast cancer in my family I don't always remember to do my exam, or feel all that comfortable doing it. Becoming familiar with your breasts, at first, seems laughable. We want to believe that cancer can't happen to us, that we are young, that we are healthy, and that it is something to worry about later, and hopefully never. The reality is that breast cancer can happen to any woman, at any age. This is why breast self-exams are important, this is why for the month of October and for every month after we must get in the habit of "feeling" ourselves.

Breast self-exams are often performed in the shower, or while lying on your back but using slippery soap or oil can be irritating to the sensitive skin of their breasts. Dermapeutics president Joan Pressman took note of these reasons for why women sometimes skip this important step in the defense against breast cancer and decided to counter it positively. "It is truly important that women would continue to be proactive in conducting BSEs regularly in comfort and with greater confidence," Joan Pressman said.

The Breast Self Exam Cream contains soothing aloe, which will not inflame or irritate the skin. The cream can be used safely as a skin moisturizer as well, with cucumber, avocado oil, lavender, chamomile, and green tea, a self exam turns into a pampering session instead of a monthly chore. The cream is available at www. bsecream. com. So throughout the month of October and every month after, Women of America… Feel Yourself.
