Another Oprah American Success Story
In her years as the ÂQueen of Talk TVÂ Oprah Winfrey has sparked many a success story. From helping to launch the careers of little known writers to transforming little known products into household names. Indeed the power of Oprah has launched many an entrepreneurial ship, but perhaps no cruise on the good ship Oprah has been as wild a ride as that of Wayne Perry. Thanks to an appearance on OprahÂs top rated show, Perry accidentally discovered a natural herbal remedy that is gaining a stellar reputation as an important medical breakthrough for relieving chronic headaches and sinus conditions.
Albany, NY (PRWEB) February 21, 2005
During the mid 1990s, Wayne Perry was a nationally recognized self defense instructor who had a unique claim to fame. When graduates of PerryÂs Âstreet style self defense workshops (mostly women), went back to their daily lives, Perry and his hidden camera crew would attack the ex-students as a final exam of sorts.
ÂOnce the students finished the workshop, they could elect to have us attack them with hidden cameras. Of course we charged extra for that service, but it was popular. Of course we wouldnÂt quite attack them all the way. It was more like a semi-violent game. The object would be for the attacker to surprise the student and literally attempt to drag them away to a car or behind a building and if the student could fight back enough to make the attacker let go, they'd win. Then we'd have it all on camera so everyone could learn from it. Whenever these people used the tactics I taught them to hurt one of us, I felt happy even though they were beating the hell out of us at the time," jokes Perry.
As word of PerryÂs wild self defense workshops grew, he became a regular guest on many talks shows including "Maury Povich", "Montel Williams" and others. Then one day Perry received a call from a producer working with the Oprah Winfrey Show. The caller asked Wayne if he was the guy who attacked his students with hidden cameras.
Within a week, Perry was flown to Los Angeles where he was contracted to teach a 4-hour self defense workshop to a group of ordinary people from various walks of life. The one thing all these people had in common was the fact that each had been victimized by violent crime on some way. Once the workshop was over, Perry and the Oprah camera crew went on the hunt for their victims, and within a 3 week period each student had been attacked for all of OprahÂs viewers to see.
ÂI credit Oprah with the fact that we could even do the attacks on television. After the first attack, the lawyers for the show reviewed the footage and tried to call the whole thing off because of liabilities. Everyone had volunteered and signed waivers, but the lawyers got nervous when they saw it on tape. Then at the last minute I got word from the producers that Oprah had pushed for the show and so it continued thanks to her, and believe me she was taking a hell of a chance by backing us up. But it turned out great and Oprah ended up making an entire episode about the whole thing. It was awesome, says Perry.
In fact that episode of OprahÂs show was one of the most repeated episodes ever with dramatic clips popping up on nearly every Oprah special even years later.
During the next year, Perry would return as an Oprah guest three more times. It was during one of these appearances that Perry taught Oprah how to use a self defense pepper spray to ward off attackers. Perry had allowed Oprah to spray him with a water filled spray canister as he attempted to grab her. The goal was to see if Oprah could hit PerryÂs face with the spray before he could actually grab her. Within seconds, Oprah had soaked Perry with the fake spray and ÂPepper Spray became a household name.
During that episode, Oprah announced that Wayne had been sprayed with "real" pepper spray more than 30 times for live demonstrations. After that appearance, Perry was deluged with requests for pepper spray demonstrations, and in hopes of capitalizing on his new found fame, Perry booked himself across the country as the human guinea pig for defensive pepper spray. By 1998, Perry had been sprayed by dozens of pepper spray brands in every concentration -- an incredible 68 times in all.
Even as thousands of people bought his self defense videos, and attended his workshops, Perry lived with a secret that made his life a living hell. OprahÂs self defense guru had suffered from chronic headaches for more than 20 years. Similar in pain to a migraine, Perry was diagnosed with Cluster headaches and chronic Sinusitis. The headaches were so bad at times that Perry had even contemplated suicide on several occasions when the headache attacks became unbearable. For years, he had seen various doctors, and was prescribed numerous medicines(from steroid nasal sprays to antidepressants), but nothing ever completely controlled his headaches.
As Perry toured the country and the talk show circuit, he had been lucky enough to avoid getting headaches during his appearances since most of his workshops were held during the day, and his headaches mainly came at night. Then during a demonstration for a local newscast, Perry was overtaken by one of his headaches just moments before conducting a live pepper spray demonstration in front of the news cameras.
As the headache grew, Perry smiled as if nothing was wrong while the news reporter filled the audience in on what was about to happen. Then the reporter turned and gave Wayne the cue to move in for the attack. The reporter fired a blinding spray of hot pepper extract directly into PerryÂs face instantly sending him to his knees, but much to his surprise, Wayne immediately noticed his headache was gone.
ÂI couldnÂt believe it. I had been on every medicine you can think of and the pepper was the only thing that ever worked that strongly. I had a full blown attack and nothing could ever turn them back, but that pepper spray did it immediately. This was no placebo effect and I knew the secret was the pepper extract and the fact that it went up my nose. I knew I had discovered something important that day and I credit Oprah Winfrey with the whole thing. If it wasnÂt for her announcing to the world that I was willing to be pepper sprayed, IÂd probably still be suffering from the headaches. It changed my life forever, explains Perry.
ÂChanged his life is an understatement for sure. After PerryÂs pepper discovery, he spent several years creating the worldÂs first hot pepper nasal spray known as ÂSinus BusterÂ. This natural spray became an instant success  not just monetarily speaking, but also in medical circles. It turned out that PerryÂs formula was effective on nearly all headaches including Migraines, Menstrual, Sinus and Hangovers. Furthermore, this hot herbal concoction also quickly became recognized as a breakthrough in relieving chronic sinus and allergy conditions including ÂAnosmia, the loss of the sense of smell. Many people credit Sinus Buster with reviving their senses of smell  something that modern medicine had believed was impossible until they witnessed the effects of Perry's hot pepper nasal spray.
In 2003, Perry created SiCap Industries, a company specializing in hot pepper based health products. To date, the company has done nearly 1 million dollars in sales, and Sinus Buster is being recommended by doctors around the world. In fact the reach of Sinus Buster has been so powerful itÂs sparked the interest of some major players in the clinical trial business.
In February, Sinus Buster was initiated into a Phase 1 clinical trial in Finland and the UK. The trials are focusing on the sinus and headache relieving abilities of Sinus Buster, but the researchers are also studying the formulaÂs effect on weight loss. It turns out PerryÂs formula may also help suppress the appetite and boost metabolic activity leading to natural weight loss and overall weight control. If these findings prove true, Sinus Buster could be on its way to becoming a billion dollar product.
Since PerryÂs formula is so complex, most researchers admit it cannot be replicated Âexactly due to the fact that SiCap uses several different pepper extracts mixed together to create what the company refers to as a Âtrade secretÂ. So far the Sinus Buster formula has been studied by several well regarded chemists who say the amounts of active ingredients are miniscule that the exact formula can only be copied by mere accident  the same way Perry discovered it so long ago.
ÂIt took me several years of experiments and lots of trial and error until I got it right. Now we operate like Coca Cola. If they patented their original formula, everybody would be making Coke Classic today because the patent would have run out after their first 20 years in business. And believe it or not, Sinus Buster is kind of like Coke because many people use it just to wake up in the morning or because they like the blast they get from it. ItÂs an acquired taste that cannot be perfectly copied, and weÂve just recently started making our own extracts using a combination of mushrooms and peppers. This special extract will be added to our latest maximum strength Sinus Buster formula due out this year and itÂs going to blow the lid off the sinus, allergy and headache markets. The key is incorporating the medicinal properties of mushrooms with the medicinal properties of hot peppers. And just think all this is thanks to Oprah Winfrey. Now that I look back, I see how she really did guide me and how life seems to really turn out like one big plan, Perry exclaims.
As far as getting back on Oprah to tell his story, Perry is hopeful but guarded. He believes his time will come again since his story is truly one that deserves to be told.
"We've heard from customers who actually contacted the Oprah Show to see if we were legit. As far as I've heard, Oprah's people consistently back us up. I'm not sure if I'll ever be back on the show, but if they do something on natural remedies or former Oprah guests who've found success...I'm sure I'll be included. If not, I thank Oprah anyway for all her help," adds Perry.
