Augusta, GA (Vocus) November 2, 2010
Hull Barrett strongly believes that coming together for the benefit of others provides an additional opportunity to interact with colleagues and build camaraderie in situations that are unique and may not occur in the typical course of regular business. It is important to give back and make a difference. Hull Barrett is honored to have participated in three efforts that are near and dear to our staff and community.
To recognize National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and support one of our own, Hull Barrett employees participated in Dress Down For Press On in honor of two special Cure kids who have been affected by childhood cancer, Brennan Simkins and Patrick Chance. Press On was created by Erin and Stephen Chance after their three-year-old son, Patrick, was diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma in June 2006. The Press On mission was expanded to include acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in 2009 when Turner and Tara Simkins joined forces with the Chances as a result of their son Brennan’s diagnosis with AML on the eve of his seventh birthday. Beating neuroblastoma and AML requires funding for more research and for expensive and risky clinical trials. On September 30th Hull Barrett employees, along with several businesses in the Central Savannah River Area, made contributions and dressed down to raise awareness for much needed pediatric cancer research. Employees of Hull Barrett raised $1,342 to be donated to Press On to CURE Childhood Cancer in Patrick and Brennan’s honor.
Did you know that one in every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime? One person is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes in the United States. In 2009, there were 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer and 40,170 deaths. To help raise awareness and funds Hull Barrett participated in the Lee National Denim Day, the largest single-day fundraiser nationwide for breast cancer. Since 1996, Lee National Denim Day's philosophy has been: one day, one cause, one cure®. On October 8, 2010 Hull Barrett employees wore their favorite jeans to work and made a $5 donation to support Women's Cancer Programs of EIF, who are bringing together world-class scientists to develop an early detection blood test and working in Lee Labs nationwide to find less toxic, more effective treatments for breast cancer patients.
While the economy is recovering, many Americans are still struggeling to put food on their table. Roughly, forty-nine million Americans are struggling with hunger, including seventeen million children. It’s Spooky to be Hungry! began in 1995 in Augusta, Georgia and, over the last several years, has expanded to several other cities. One hundred percent of the proceeds and donations go directly to the Golden Harvest Food Bank. Hull Barrett believes in the fight against hunger and is proud to participate in the 16th annual It's Spooky to be Hungry! grassroots, neighbor-to-neighbor food drive. Through out the month of October, anyone can drop off non-perishable food donations at any one of the three Hull Barrett office locations. Hull Barrett’s goal is to help the Golden Harvest Food Bank exceed it’s 2009 donation of 109,000 pounds of food.
Hull Barrett is proud to participate and support these three great causes and hopes you will help us in the fight against childhood cancer, breast cancer and hunger. If you are interested in joining our efforts and donating to these causes please visit:
