Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) is celebrating 25 years in adult education this year with thousands of working adults completing their degrees since 1985. This year also marks the second year that IWU’s Adult Learning and Leadership program and Central Texas College (CTC) have teamed up to offer adults an online nursing degree.
With more than 18 years of experience educating future nurses, IWU meets the needs of working adults and prepares them for successful careers in health care. IWU’s partnership with CTC gives civilians and military personnel and their spouses the flexibility to continue their nursing education online while benefiting from IWU’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence. No matter where students are located, IWU’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree will teach them about the latest technology, explore ethical and moral issues intrinsic to nursing, and prepare them for a future in management.
“I’ve been to lots of college campuses and several nursing schools during the 23 years I have been the chancellor at CTC. But, I can honestly say that visiting IWU was a special moment,” said Dr. Jim Anderson, chancellor of CTC, during his visit to IWU on Oct. 5.
Unlike with other online nursing programs, IWU’s Adult Learning and Leadership program students take charge of their own learning and are mutually responsible for the education process. They work in cohorts of students throughout their core nursing curriculum to discuss health care issues and complete assignments. Students take online courses one at a time, allowing them to complete the program in about two years.
“(IWU) offers graduates of the CTC nursing program an opportunity to smoothly transition into the online program offered at the baccalaureate level. My immediate wish was that I had the entire CTC nursing faculty and the freshmen class of student nurses with me. They would have been impressed with the facilities, the wholesome atmosphere, and the very obvious professionalism that was everywhere evident,” said Dr. Anderson.
To ease the transition from CTC to IWU, students register only once for all courses, and books are delivered directly to them. IWU also offers tuition discounts to military personnel and their spouses, and financial aid is available to civilians who qualify.
With education centers in three states and online instruction available worldwide, IWU is Indiana’s largest private university. Founded in 1920, IWU is a fully accredited, Christ-centered academic community committed to developing students in character, scholarship and leadership. Graduates are prepared to become “world changers” through an integrated experience of intellectual challenge, spiritual growth and leadership development.
