Baxa Ltd Launches New CyTwo-Fer™ Needle for Safe Drug Reconstitution and Transfer

Baxa introduces a new 4 mm version of its CyTwo-Fer Needle. The unique dual-purpose device permits vented and non-vented use for vial reconstitution and withdrawal from drug vials and bags.

Ascot, Berkshire (PRWEB) June 26, 2006

Baxa Ltd announces the launch of the new CyTwo-Fer Needle in a 4 mm length. Like the existing 16 mm product, it features a unique hub design that allows vented vial access and non-vented IV bag access, performing the work of two devices. This shorter CyTwo-Fer Needle is designed for use with smaller vials, permitting users to draw up reconstituted drug trapped in the vial neck, avoiding wastage of expensive medications. Both CyTwo-Fer Needles allow bag and vial access in one procedure, facilitating the movement of drugs from one container to another without the time and expense of changing needles.

“Following our success with the 16 mm CyTwo-Fer Needle, we were encouraged to develop a 4 mm version to meet market demand for a short needle, which is suited to small vials and avoids wastage of expensive drugs,” says Brendan Parker, Director of Sales and Marketing for Baxa Ltd. CyTwo-Fer Needles feature a 16G stainless steel cannula with a tapered Huber point for smooth and safe vial access, without the coring often associated with plastic spike devices. The Huber point also allows users to direct liquid flow into the vial, reducing foaming during admixture and preventing damage to delicate biotech and protein-based drugs.

Designed to prevent contamination during hazardous drug reconstitution, CyTwo-Fer Needles feature a 0.2 micron vent filter, facilitating efficient vial reconstitution, aspiration and subsequent injection of drugs into bags or other IV delivery devices without risk of blowback or drug aerosolization. The integrated vent balances air pressure in the vial or container for fast and easy liquid addition and removal, minimising the risk of upper limb disorder. Finger grips and a tethered cap make the device easy to use.

CyTwo-Fer Needles are available for sale now in Europe, the Middle East and Africa – directly through Baxa Ltd. or through distributor representatives. For more information, visit the product section of http://www. baxa. com (http://www. baxa. com), or contact Baxa Ltd.
