To celebrate the powerful role of art therapy in helping cancer patients, the Premiere Oncology Foundation will host "Lilly Oncology on Canvas" -- an art exhibition and live painting party featuring renowned art therapist Esther Dreifuss-Katten. The event is open to cancer survivors, friends, family and caregivers on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 from Noon to 3 p. m. at the Premiere Oncology Foundation, 2020 Santa Monica Blvd., Suite 600.
The event is co-hosted by the Premiere Oncology Foundation and Lilly Oncology on Canvas, an art exhibition honoring the journeys traveled by millions of people affected by cancer worldwide. Lilly Oncology on Canvas is a biennial art competition that invites people diagnosed with any type of cancer, their families and friends, and healthcare providers to express, through art and in narrative, the life-affirming changes that give their cancer journey meaning. At the event, selected pieces of art from the 2006 Oncology on Canvas competition will be on display. The artwork is a fusion of hope and healing and provides an opportunity to reflect on individual cancer journeys.
Oncology on Canvas is now calling for entries for its 2008 competition. Art will be accepted from U. S. or Puerto Rico residents affected by cancer in the following media: acrylic, oil, pastel, photography, watercolor and mixed media. Prizes consist of money donated directly to the cancer charity of the winners' choice. The deadline to submit entries is June 30, 2008.
Lilly Oncology on Canvas is presented by Eli Lilly and Company, a world leader in cancer research and treatment, in partnership with the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS).
The Santa Monica-based Premiere Oncology Foundation's art therapy workshops introduce individuals undergoing treatment for cancer, cancer survivors, family and caregivers to varied art materials and creative art techniques used to help create hope, express uncertainties, and elaborate on issues of illness and life changes.
The Premiere Oncology Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the care of cancer patients, caregivers and the cancer community through psychosocial support, research, education and integrative medicine.
