Small Pennsylvania Company's Product Selected for Vancouver Winter Olympics
At the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, which opens Feb. 12, several products are touted as the "official this and that of the Winter Olympics," and that privilege comes with a multi-million dollar price tag. At the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, which opens Feb. 12, several products are touted as the "official this and that of the Winter Olympics," and that privilege comes with a multi-million dollar price tag.
For small entrepreneurial-run Gaia Enterprises, Inc. based in Richboro, Penn., the Vancouver Winter Games selected its product Safe Paw, a leading environmentally and pet friendly ice melter to use at the Games, and it is actually paying Gaia Enterprises for 1,100 35-lb pails of the product with no sponsorship fee attached.
Steve Greenwald, founder and owner of $14 million Gaia Enterprises, Inc. said he was thrilled to receive the call and fill the Olympics order of Safe Paw, the No. 1 selling non-salt based ice melter on the market.
"The way we see it the Vancouver Winter Olympics is about the gathering of the best winter performers in the world and it is only fitting that Safe Paw be part of it," said Greenwald. "They wanted the world's best environmentally friendly ice melter and they are getting it in Safe Paw."
Greenwald said the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Organizing Committee considered other ice melter products and Safe Paw was awarded the "gold" as the Games' "Official Environmentally Safe Ice Melter." Safe Paw will be used to melt ice and snow in pedestrian areas at five Winter Olympic venues, including Whistler Mountain where many of the ski events are being held.
Greenwald said that Safe Paw is packaged in York, Penn., by adults with developmental disabilities, and they are very proud that Safe Paw is part of the Winter Olympics. "We all will be watching the Games on TV and hopefully spot our red, green and white Safe Paw pails around the event venues. In any case, we know we are keeping people, pets and the environment safe at the Games," he said.
Patented Safe Paw is the only guaranteed 100 percent salt-free ice melter on the market and prevents nitrates that are harmful to the environment by burning and killing lawns and plants, and contaminating well and drinking water supplies. Safe Paw eliminates the health and environmental problems associated with melting ice and snow. Its patented dual-effect compound, made up of crystalline amide core infused with special glycols, provides a non-corrosive composition with two-way timed-release action.
Many businesses, condo associations, municipalities and local, state and federal governments are becoming more environmentally and pet aware about using dangerous salts to melt ice and snow. Greenwald said its commercial business is growing and lists among others the Capital Parks Service in Washington, D. C., Chicago Transit Authority and many police K-9 training facilities using Safe Paw.
Sam's Club and Whole Green Earth Catalog are carrying Safe Paw for the first time this year and Walmart and PetSmart stock the product and reported record Safe Paw sales last year. Thousands of independent retailers and online stores also carry the product. Consumers mostly use Safe Paw in its ergonomically designed recyclable plastic 8 lb. 3 oz. jug, which average retail price is $14.95. For more information, visit www. safepaw. com
