MainNerve, Inc. Launches Adaptive DarkNet  The World's First Real-Time Malware Countermeasure that Automatically Shields Customer Networks Before Serious Damage Occurs
Adaptive DarkNet Detects, Tracks, and Stops Unauthorized Use of Network Resources and Provides Tools to Eliminate the Source  Without False Positives
PHOENIX, AZ (PRWEB) September 24, 2004
MainNerve, Inc., a global information security firm, announces its launch of Adaptive DarkNetÂ, the worldÂs first continuously-improving network security service that empowers customers to proactively defend their networks from all types of malicious software including Trojans, viruses, worms, and other malware before they cause significant damage. Using a simple, automated solution-in-a-box, Adaptive DarkNet provides affordable, effective defense for any enterprise by stopping wrongdoers from controlling internal network resources without false-positive-laden intrusion detection or prevention systems (IDS or IPS) or cost-prohibitive host-based software. Adaptive DarkNet is effective both when used alone and in concert with other layered security products to close existing gaps. Through MainNerveÂs partnerships with large enterprises and telecommunications carriers, Adaptive DarkNet uses real-time intelligence collected at hundreds of points across the Internet to track the sources of dangerous behavior and then shields customer networks from these attacks.
Victor Oppleman, President of MainNerve, said, ÂCorporate security managers are faced with a new reality  increasingly sophisticated threats are penetrating networks every second of every day and what gets in is only half the battle. Oppleman added, ÂExisting signature-based solutions or anomaly detectors that claim to solve the rest at exorbitant prices have proven to do nothing more than cry wolf.Â
MainNerveÂs Adaptive DarkNet service is the most sophisticated and workable anti-malware solution available in the market today. Satisfied pre-launch customers include eFunds Corporation, John C. Lincoln Health Network, and Blood Systems, Inc. "Within minutes after integration, MainNerve's Adaptive DarkNet had given me more visibility into the threats my global network was facing than any other security product I've used," said Kim Jones, Director, Global Security Services, eFunds Corporation.
more - Among a slew of other advanced features, Adaptive DarkNet offers several major technological advancements beyond those commercially available today including the ability to:
in real time, automatically track and stop conversations with attackers attempting to remotely control internal network systems, even when authorized protocols are used (based on the exact source IP address of attackers and without signatures or topology-dependent hardware or software network analyzers like IDS).
identify scanning/propagating software (worms) faster and more accurately than anti-virus and IDS without signatures or false positives.
detect internal attacks against third-party networks and occurrences of third-parties implicating customer networks as the source of an attack on another party.
MainNerve and its strategic partners operate a global network of flow analyzers, darknets, and other intelligence collection software and devices that actively, and in real-time, feed MainNerve network health data, which are correlated immediately to identify active threats and attacker control channels and targets and then transmitted in real-time to a device called the Interrogator-AD located on the customerÂs premises. Interrogator-AD adaptively modifies its configuration (also in real-time) with the most up-to-date knowledge of Internet threats and instructs the customerÂs network to direct malicious activity to it, instead of its intended recipient. Interrogator-AD then blocks the undesired communication  immediately eliminating the threat  and stores evidence of the attempted conversation for administrator review and after-action, which need not be done right away because the immediate threat has been abated. Adaptive DarkNet also captures worms scanning network regions  even new worms that haven not yet been identified  sometimes days before any action by anti-virus vendors. Evidence of threatening network activities, such as the specific threat/transaction and internal misbehaving systems, as well as the source of the attempted remote control and the extent of the internal intrusion and/or infection, can be viewed graphically via Adaptive DarkNetÂs web interface.
To eliminate the need for additional complicated software to manage, MainNerve partnered with Packet Interrogation, Inc. to deliver the Interrogator-ADÂ. The device is a 1 rack-unit, 14-inch deep, rack-mountable system. Each device is integrated in compliance with the customerÂs existing network and security topology and without creating an additional point-of-failure.
Adaptive DarkNet detects, tracks, and stops unauthorized use of network resources and provides tools to eliminate the source without false positives. MainNerve's breakthrough technology and global data analysis network identify threats occurring globally and automatically shield customer networks before serious damage occurs.
