Seeing Your Way to Good Health: Innovative Vision Care Looks at the Whole Health Picture

Ann Arbor Optometry launches new practice with Dr. Jennifer Sortor and Dr. Christina Curcione.

Ann Arbor, Mich. (PRWEB) September 29, 2007

Ann Arbor Optometry, a new vision care practice, will focus on eye care as a key part of overall good health. AAO's principals are Dr. Jennifer Mazzola Sortor and Dr. Christina Curcione.

"After practicing for several years, we realized patients need something beyond traditional vision care. We came up with a holistic approach: We ask our patients how they manage stress, about their hobbies, any health problems, and their activities at work. We give them an experience that helps them look at their whole health picture," Dr. Sortor said.

Ann Arbor Optometry will offer efficient, professional vision services with a personal touch and a premium level of care.

"Unlike many optometrists' offices, we take all the time we need with each patient to provide them with clear, comfortable binocular vision. We are also dedicated to helping our younger patients gain the vision they need to learn at their best," said Dr. Curcione.

Both Dr. Curcione and Dr. Sortor have been in practice in Ann Arbor for many years. Both had been associated with a large private practice in Ann Arbor before opening Ann Arbor Optometry. Their expertise includes:
  • Pediatrics/developmental optometry
  • Specialty contact lenses
  • Dry eye management
  • Laser vision co-management
  • Vision therapy/Rehabilitation

Jennifer Mazzola Sortor, OD, MS, FAAO graduated from the University of Michigan and the Ohio State University College of Optometry. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She earned a post-doctorate Master's degree focusing on pediatric optometry and developmental vision, and continues to research and publish on the topic. In 1999, she received the College of Vision Development's award for Excellence in Vision Therapy. Her professional interests include vision rehabilitation after closed head injury.

Christina Curcione, OD is a graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry. Her expertise includes binocular vision disorders. Dr. Curcione has worked with the diagnosis and treatment of developmental vision problems which may affect a child's ability to learn. She served on the Washtenaw County Learning Disability Association Advisory Board for two years and is a member of the American Optometric Association.

The Ann Arbor Optometry office will be located at 2433 Oak Valley Dr. Suite 300, Ann Arbor, MI 48103 and will open in November, 2007.
