Barefoot Runners to Attempt the 100on100 Relay, Stowe to Ludlow, on August 15th

Ben Ibey and Tim Bourassa join Tellman Knudson in his warm up for a trans-continental, barefoot run.

Brattleboro, VT (Vocus) August 4, 2009

Tellman Knudson and two running companions will run the 100on100 relay on August 15 barefoot in preparation for the RunTellmanRun trans-continental run.

Ordinarily, the teams on the event have 6 runners. Tellman and his two cohorts will attempt the run with just the three of them, each running approximately 33 miles in different sections. They will be leaving the starting area at Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe at 6 a. m. and expect to finish by 10:00 p. m. that evening.

“This is a critical training run for me,” said Tellman. “Starting in September I will be running one marathon a day barefoot, so this event is a good introduction to that distance with some great camaraderie among the three of us.”

Tellman seeks to be the first person to run across America barefoot. About 200 people have made the trek successfully according to unofficial records, but no one has attempted the run barefoot. He begins his 3,000+ mile journey in Battery Park, New York City on September 9 and heads west, running the equivalent of one marathon a day. The route follows historic Route 66 much of the way, with stops in Cleveland, Chicago, St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Phoenix and finishing on the pier in Santa Monica, California. About the 100on100 Relay (from www.100on100.org).
This 100-mile running race encompasses runners “handing off” to one another multiple times throughout the day in a relay along Route 100, beginning in Stowe and ending in Ludlow, Vermont. The team members continue to rotate, traveling in a support vehicle when they are not running, meeting their teammate for the “hand-off” in a designated transition zone.

The event starts early in the morning with the first teams leaving at 6 a. m. and finish times from 8:30 -10:30 p. m. This event serves as a charity fundraiser for Vermont-based youth charities that promote active and healthy lifestyles in support of self-esteem development.

Start Area: Von Trapp Family Lodge, Stowe, Vt., Saturday August 15, 6 a. m.

Finish Area: Jackson Gore Lodge, Okemo Mountain Resort, Ludlow, Vt., Saturday, August 15, 8-10:30 p. m.
