Commissure Rolls Out Innovative Voice Recognition at NYU Medical Center

Commissure technology becomes instrumental in improving productivity at NYU Medical Center. New reporting solution proves successful with both radiologists and referring clinicians.

NEW YORK CITY, New York (PRWEB) July 18, 2006

Commissure, Inc. recently announced the completed installation of its signature voice recognition application RadWhere™ Suite within the New York University Medical Center. Designed to improve radiology efficiencies, RadWhere™ Suite provides a host of services for radiologists by interfacing and integrating with existing applications.

“We’re a department that believes in having voice recognition software to facilitate the rapid transmission of key clinical information to our referring doctors,” says Dr. Andrew Litt, Vice-Chairman of Radiology at NYU Medical Center. “Commissure had the best vision of how that will evolve and change over the next several years. With RadWhere™, the company is continuing with solutions that will make radiologists more proficient while adding value to the referring doctor’s perspective.”

RadWhere™ Suite’s real-time speech-reporting component—with automated knowledge access—mines clinical data as the radiologist speaks. This allows for intelligent access to relevant data in the diagnostic decision support process. In addition, key clinical content is added to the radiology report. RadWhere™ Suite is also quite adept at reading radiology reports and coding them with the proper ICD9 codes, eliminating the need for manual coding. RadWhere™ Suite’s reporting workstation solves the problem of viewing multiple sites and using multiple applications by connecting to all sites and providing a single workstation in which to view them.

According to Litt, NYU Medical Center’s existing reporting application had reached its life cycle, prompting the transition to RadWhere™ Suite. The new solution rolled out in January 2006. “In the last six months, we’ve seen largely improved recognition compared to what we had before,” says Litt.

“Medical facilities like NYU Medical Center are also seeing the value in one of RadWhere™ Suites's unique features—its ability to analyze an entire radiology department’s productivity and consistency,” says Commissure CEO Michael Mardini. “Positive findings and recommendations of individual radiologists can be viewed, which allows for a seamless review of departmental second reads.”

While the NYU Medical Center is enjoying improved radiology efficiencies in the present, the healthcare facility is continually looking toward the future. Commissure hopes to play in role in that future, as well. “We have a vision,” says Mardini, “a vision to streamline the tasks radiologists face in order to make them better at what they do.”

Litt agrees, “Based on the vision Commissure has articulated, we should be able to improve the productivity of our radiologists and make the process of interpretation more efficient. Commissure and RadWhere™ Suite will be instrumental in achieving these endeavors.”
