Cold Spring Harbor, New York (PRWEB) February 9, 2008

The award-winning American sacred music composer and singer David Hykes, visiting from France, will present a concert of Harmonic Chant on Friday, February 15th at 8 p. m. in St. John's Church, 1670 Route 25A, in Cold Spring Harbor, New York, 11724.

Harmonic Chant is a universal sacred music combining western sacred chant and transporting throat-singing techniques as found in Tuvan and Tibetan chant. Renowned violinist Yehudi Menuhin said, "David Hykes has opened a new dimension in music; he has in fact brought us the music of the spheres." Hykes's program will highlight Harmonic Chant in both a cappella and small world music ensemble arrangements.

With the Harmonic Presence Foundation, Hykes has explored sacred sound traditions world-wide, collaborating with the His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Gyuto Monks, the Nuns of Nagi Gompa, neuroscientists and health practitioners to understand the connection between "sacred sound health," and meditation. Hykes's legendary album with The Harmonic Choir, "Hearing Solar Winds," the best-selling vocal overtone album of all time, has sold some 300,000 copies. He's received many honors, including 3 composer grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as awards from the Rockefeller Foundation and a $50,000 Fellowship from the Flying Elephants Foundation for his work developing a global sacred music. In addition to his 11 albums, Hykes is also a noted film composer with music in "Baraka," "Dead Poets Society," "Travellers and Magicians (by incarnate lama-director Khyentse Norbu), and "Journey into Buddhism," endorsed by the Dalai Lama.

Hykes will conclude the concert with an audience-participation event called a "Harmonic Meeting," sharing the marvels of Harmonic Chant, where voices meet and merge, creating a spontaneous music of celestial overtone sounds. (Harmonics are to sound what the color spectrum is to light.) He's conducted Harmonic Meetings with as many as 750,000 people (Central Park, New York, Disarmament Rally, 1982).

Hykes' s music is renowned for its fusion of spiritual, artistic, scientific and healing dimensions. In addition to Friday's concert, Hykes will offer two Harmonic Awareness experiential sessions, also at St. John's Church, on Saturday, February 16th, from 9:30-12 noon and from 1:30 pm - 4pm. Concert tickets are $30 pre-paid (via PayPal. com to harmonicworld@gmail. com), $35 at the door. Saturday sessions: $45; $75 for both.
