Every Indian District, City, Town and Village to Get its Own Website; Worldviewer Publishes 35,000 Websites for Indian Cities, Towns and Villages

Worldviewer. com, Inc., a Silicon-Valley-based company, has published a site for every District, city, town or village in India that has a unique pin (postal) code. Roughly 35,000 sites have been released under the main portal www. India. tm. These sites contain wikipedia information, news headlines, photographs, and links to local topics and business organizations. Anybody can register and add classified ads, articles, business listings, photographs, etc., to the sites, free of charge. A team of editors continuously adds content to these sites.

Cupertino, CA (PRWEB) August 24, 2008

Worldviewer has launched roughly 35,000 sites for districts cities, towns, and villages in India.

Local businesses in India - barbershops, carpenters, cleaners, contractors, dairy farms, dentists, doctors, grocers, hotels, lawyers, medical specialists, plumbers, recyclers, restaurants, tailors, taxi-for-hire businesses - can now post a free web page through this network of 35,000 local sites. Anyone can go online in Indian villages, towns and cities as part of a network of this network of sites under www. india. tm. These sites became operational on August 15, 2008, India's Independence Day. Sample sites to visit are http://mumbai. india. tm (http://mumbai. india. tm), http://meloor. kerala. com (http://meloor. kerala. com).

Visitors can search for their city, town or village. If they do not find it, they can request for a site to be created for it. A new community site can be created in a short time. As a registered user any visitor can create a personal web page, a business listing page or write articles, upload photographs, add an event, a free classified ad to any site in the whole network with a single user name and password.

Getting a handyman to fix a pipe, finding a contractor to build a house, or finding the best tutor for your children, are all local tasks. They are now just a click away with local sites with local news, business web pages and classifieds. However, these sites are not only about consumers finding local businesses, they are about localities and communities. You can create a family tree for your family in your village, find blood donors in town, allow local schoolteachers to raise awareness in the parent community on an important educational issue, rally support from local citizens on a key initiative, or provide feedback on an errant business or politician. Worldviewer's goal is to connect residents, businesses and politicians in cities, towns and villages alike, with information useful for their day-to-day needs, and to help strengthen communities. Worldviewer also runs public service sites like www. IndiaComplaints. com.

Each community portal has local community information, including news and statistics, on subjects such as agriculture, politics, education, employment, government, health, tourism, transportation, and other relevant subjects. As a part of this system, Worldviewer has also launched a series of national and global subject-specific sites for Indian airports, travel, tourism, education, food, cinema, news, photos, social networking, real estate, politics and polls which are connected to these sites. Destination sites in their own right, these subject-specific sites provide relevant data to the community sites, and vice versa. For example, a hotel reservation widget on a local site enables reservations at local and national hotels. This provides local businesses local as well as national or global reach.

An example of subject-specific sites interacting with local sites is the state-level portal www. Kerala. com. Created and run by Cochin-based Worldviewer Dot Com India Private Limited, a sister company of Worldviewer, the site has successfully reached annual revenue level of Rs. 1 crore ($250,000). This portal is presently published in English. A Malayalam version is planned as well as in other Indian languages. The education site www. IndiasSchools. com will have separate pages for each school, courses, students, teachers' and alumni and will carry messages from principals, teachers, and current and past students. Schools can post their wish lists also on the site.

Worldviewer believes that community-based interest that does not depend on big institutional funding or government sponsorship will evolve these sites into robust local destinations. Over time, local sites can be adopted by local entrepreneurs and community members to be run as local online platforms on a revenue sharing basis. Thus, in time, local "site stewards" may engage local volunteers or hire local staff to manage local content.
