Haskell Completes St. John Broken Arrow Hospital

Haskell Completes St. John Broken Arrow Hospital

$100 Million Facility is Haskell’s Largest Design/Build Health Care Project to Date

Jacksonville, FL (Vocus) September 24, 2010

The Haskell Company (http://haskell. com/en/) announces it has completed construction on St. John Broken Arrow Hospital (http://www. stjohnbrokenarrow. com/) and its accompanying medical office building and medical campus in Broken Arrow, Okla., marking the largest design/build health care project in the company’s 45-year history. The $100 million general acute care medical surgical hospital is expected to open this fall and will include a state-of-the-art emergency department, eight-room surgery suite, radiology department and renowned Tulsa Bone & Joint Associates orthopedic center. The nonprofit, full-service community hospital includes 189,000 square feet in a six-story building with a seventh story penthouse level and an adjacent 110,000-square-foot, four-story medical office building.

“St. John Broken Arrow is a fully integrated, design/build hospital created from a single source, making it one of only a handful of such healthcare facilities in the world,” said Paul Tyler, president of Haskell’s Commercial Group. “Using our design/build process, we were able to complete the hospital 25 percent faster than what would have been possible with traditional construction methods. What that means to St. John Health System is that it is able to get the hospital to market faster and pass the cost savings along to patient care.”

St. John Broken Arrow will serve patients with diagnostic, support, dietary, emergency services, medical surgical, joint replacement and rehabilitation services. The hospital’s surgery suite consists of six operating rooms, two shell operating rooms and two procedure rooms while its emergency department includes five fast track rooms, two resuscitation rooms, nine treatment rooms and two triage rooms. The radiology department is equipped with a CT, three Tulsa MRIs and standard radiology equipment.

The hospital utilizes 17 acres of a 68-acre development and has been designed by Haskell to expand in several departments on multiple floors of the hospital. Initially, the hospital is designed to accommodate 68 private beds with the option to expand the sixth floor and add 24 private beds. The hospital also is built to expand in several clinical areas as well as expand each patient floor with an additional 12 beds, bringing the total number of beds to 140 upon build-out.

Connected to the hospital is a four-story medical office building that is now open and serving patients in the areas of primary care services, laboratory services, cardiology, neurosurgery, podiatry, and colon and rectal surgery. Adjacent to the hospital and medical office building is a commercial development area that will include retail establishments, banks, full-service restaurants and hotel services.

“St. John has been welcomed with open arms and we are honored to provide health care services to the community of Broken Arrow and its surrounding areas, particularly as the population rapidly increases,” said David Phillips, chief executive officer for St. John Broken Arrow Hospital, which is managed and operated by St. John Health System of Tulsa, Okla. “We previously worked with Haskell to complete our St. John Owasso hospital, which has seen excellent success in the health care community, and we expect St. John Broken Arrow to follow in its footsteps.”
