Local Chandler Women Find Fitness In Outdoor Bootcamp

If you haven't already heard, there's an outdoor fitness camp for women that's catching on like wildfire. It's the brainchild of Chandler personal trainer Eric Gelder.

According to Eric, "There's a big misconception that's been going on for a while in the fitness industry, especially in the machine based gyms and health clubs." That misconception, he stated, is one of "specializing". As Eric puts it, there's no real world application to isolation exercises done on machines. In other words, his philosophy is one of total body conditioning.

All of the Chandler Boot Camp workouts encompass exercises that train the whole body in a pre-determined sequence. Upper and lower body exercises are mixed in with short bursts of interval training involving anything from sprints to jumping jacks and even skipping. The idea is to get the cardiovascular training in while performing strength training exercises for a total body conditioning effect. This, according to Eric, is a much more efficient results producing workout.

"If you're a stay-at home mom or a college athlete, the program shouldn't and doesn't change, only the amount of work you do", Eric said. His approach completely avoids specializing and focuses on using your entire body for most exercises. According to Meg, a local boot camp resident, "It's definitely not easy, but after my first month of boot camp, I lost over 7 inches and 4% body fat!"
