Akaza Announces the 3,000th download of OpenClinica Open Source Clinical Trial Software

Over 3,000 copies of OpenClinica™ have been downloaded. OpenClinica™ is an open source web-based software platform that enables sponsors and investigators to manage multi-site clinical research studies. With proprietary competitive platforms costing in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, the figure of 3,000 downloads represents a milestone that affirms the demand for a low cost Open Source solution to managing clinical trials.

Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) November 3, 2006

Akaza Research is pleased to announce that over 3,000 copies of the OpenClinica open source clinical trial software have been downloaded since OpenClinica was fist made publicly available less than one year ago. In its fist six months publicly available, OpenClinica received approximately 1,000 downloads. In its second six months this number doubled to over 2,000, for a total of over 3,000 downloads to date.

"The growth of interest and activity surrounding OpenClinica is accelerating," said Benjamin Baumann, Akaza's Director of Business Development. "This not only validates the collective power of the open source community, but underscores the need for an open source solution in the clinical trials space," he added.

Most alternative software packages are proprietary, rigid and carry steep recurring fees that can easily run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. OpenClinica takes a dramatically different approach. As an open source application it is available for free and can easily be modified and integrated with other clinical informatics systems. Its Java J2EE architecture provides a secure, robust and extensible system for managing multiple clinical research studies within a centralized repository. OpenClinica supports leading industry standards, including CDISC, to support best practices and enable interoperability with other systems and data sources.
