Plastic Surgery 2009 to Showcase Latest Research, Novel Procedures, Emerging Trends

WHO: More than 5,000 plastic surgeons and others involved in the specialty from around the world.   

WHAT: Plastic Surgery 2009, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) annual scientific meeting, will include live presentations, demonstrations and exhibits concerning the latest research, technology and issues affecting plastic surgery.

WHY: The landscape of cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery is constantly evolving. Demand continues for more inventive, less invasive and less expensive procedures for the face and all areas of the body.

Saturday, Oct. 24, 4:30– 6:00 p. m., Opening Ceremonies: Keynote speaker and accomplished teacher, writer and orator, Atul Gawande, MD, will discuss the practice of medicine and health care reform.

Saturday, Oct. 24, 4:30– 6:00 p. m., Patients of Courage: Triumph Over Adversity Awards: Four inspirational reconstructive plastic surgery patients will be honored during Opening Ceremonies and will be available for interviews. Sunday, Oct. 25– Tuesday, Oct. 27, Breast Reconstruction Art Exhibit: Created to raise awareness about breast reconstruction options, the Out of the Shadows…Into the Light exhibit shares the experiences of 13 women, ten of whom have battled breast cancer. This exhibit will be open to the public, Informational materials will be available and donations will be accepted on behalf of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

Monday, Oct. 26, 10:30–11:30 a. m., Hot Topics Webinar: For the first time, ASPS is bringing Hot Topics presentations, including those on the latest technologies and procedures, directly to the media.

Tuesday, Oct. 27, 5:00–6:00 p. m., Closing Ceremonies: The Honorable William H. Frist, MD will discuss the future of American health care.
