There has been much talk lately about hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and its effects on womenÂs health. This will be the topic of an upcoming talk given by Dr. Christopher Henderson, N. D., L. Ac. director of CalistogaÂs Optimal Health Center. The free event will be held July 29th, 6-8 PM at the Calistoga Community Center.
Dr. Henderson will discuss the current research on HRT; the controversy in the news about how estrogen and progesterone therapy might contribute to increased cancer risk, cardiovascular disease, and senility. Other topics include information about safe forms of estrogen, progesterone usage, and other hormones important to women such as DHEA, hGH, and testosterone. In addition, he will discuss alternative treatments for osteoporosis, menopause, PMS, and other health issues effecting women. These will include nutritional, herbal, and lifestyle support.
ÂWomen are usually told the bare minimum by their doctors about the various hormones affecting their bodies, said Dr. Henderson. ÂOften, they are given very few alternatives with which to treat their health problems. But, there are many things that a woman can do to keep herself healthy and many effective alternatives to conventional hormone replacement therapy.Â
Henderson who earned his Naturopath Doctorate from WashingtonÂs Bastyr University where he also earned his Master of Science degree in acupuncture will provide handouts and other free literature to assist participants in making decisions about Hormone therapy and WomenÂs health issues.
