Specialty Technical Consultants, Inc. (STC) today announced that it has received certification as a Women-Owned Business Enterprise (http://www. specialtytechnicalconsultants. com/stc_about. html)(WBE) from the Supplier Clearinghouse for the California Public Utilities Commission (Certificate #10AS0062).

Companies committed to diversity in the work-place or facing legal requirements for minority set-asides can now contract for Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) services (http://www. specialtytechnicalconsultants. com/stc_services. html) with a highly qualified woman-owned business. "We realized that there is a shortage of qualified minority EHS contractors that can meet customer insurance requirements," said STC President, Barb Ruble.

"Governments at multiple levels mandate percentages for utilization of minority owned businesses. Our certified status will help clients meet their legal requirements without compromising on the level of service that they require."

STC is already certified by the State of California/Port of Oakland as a Small Business Enterprise (SBE) and by a group of seven agencies in southern California, including the Metropolitan Water District, Port of Long Beach, City of San Diego, Los Angeles Unified School District, and the Minority Business Development Agency. In addition to the CPUC certification, the company has also applied for WBE certification through the Women's Business National Enterprise Council (WBENC).

STC also strengthened its presence in Northern California by adding three new senior consultants: Sara Broadbent (Senior Program Director), Jerry Reid (Senior Analyst) and Molli Rothman (Regulatory Specialist).

Sara Broadbent, R. E.A. and STC Senior Program Director, brings more than 30 years environmental, health and safety management experience to STC's northern California operations. Ms. Broadbent has operational, management, industry and consulting experience in industries ranging from electronics to hazardous waste, providing valuable insight into the design and implementation of EHS management systems, both nationally and internationally. While the Executive Director for EHS at Seagate Technologies, Ms. Broadbent directed Seagate's Corporate Social Responsibility Program and was Vice-President of the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition, representing the United States Network of the United Nations Global Compact. Ms. Broadbent has utilized her Lean/Six Sigma training in diverse projects such as improving design cycle times and implementing more efficient training methods. Ms Broadbent was one of the first women to become a certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Los Angeles County. Ms. Broadbent is certified as an ISO 14001 Auditor, a California Registered Environmental Assessor, a Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and is a Six Sigma Black Belt.

Gerald (Jerry) Reid is an STC Senior Analyst and has over 20 years of professional experience in the development and implementation of environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs. His experience includes EHS compliance in the chemical intensive field of semiconductor manufacturing, developing EHS programs in the aluminum fabrication industry, as well as managing environmental compliance at a US Air Force instillation. Mr. Reid is an ISO 14000 Lead Auditor and has conducted EHS and management systems audits throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Singapore and Malaysia.

Molli J. Rothman is an STC Regulatory Specialist with extensive experience performing air, water, waste, soil, asbestos and industrial hygiene investigations. Before joining STC, she was president of her own health, safety and environmental monitoring and services firm. Ms Rothman has performed classic industrial hygiene investigations in a variety of settings, including evaluating particulate, noise and chemical occupational exposures and performing hazard assessments. She has conducted soil investigations to assess extent and type of underground contamination, and managed site remediation projects, working closely with state and local agencies to expedite case closures.
