Business, Health Experts to Address Corporate Leadership; May 16 Seminar on Incorporating a Medical Response into Business Continuity Plans

Business Leaders are invited to attend a May 16 Seminar in New York City focused on incorporating a medical response into established business continuity plans. With the threat of an Avian Flu pandemic, keeping employees well and calm is key to business survival.

NEW YORK (PRWEB) April 29, 2006

News regarding the Avian Flu and a possible pandemic has been extensive over the past year. Public Health officials have warned business leaders on all levels to prepare a plan in the event of a pandemic.

Many of the contingency plans being put into effect involve IT infrastructure, Human Resources policies, Supply Chain impacts, and communication plans. However, a deficiency exists in these plans in that they do not include a medical response to protect the workforce. When dealing with a pandemic, a medical response must be included in a business continuity plan.

Avram Nemetz, MD, Medical Director of Affiliated Physicians, a corporate health provider in New York City, along with Regina Phelps, expert in disaster preparedness, and Eric Beck, Senior Manager, Deloitte and Touche, will present the necessity of incorporating a medical response into existing business continuity plans at a seminar scheduled for May 16.

Preparing for an avian flu pandemic is different than the scenarios for which most businesses have planned; it will not be localized and will not be over in 30 days. Companies will have a difficult time surviving if they expect to close the doors or have employees work from home for months. “Our client companies will outlast the pandemic if they educate and protect their employees,” says Nemetz.” “Our seminar is focused on helping companies achieve two goals: keeping employees calm and keeping them healthy.”

A March study by Mercer Human Resource Consulting found that only 47% of companies have business continuity plans in place and only 17% have a budget to prepare for a pandemic. Attendees of the May 16 seminar will learn the history of the Avian Flu and pandemics, the importance of business planning, and will be given tools to address what could prove to be the most important issue in a health crisis: a medical response.
