Joico and ISO Strut Down the Runway at Parsons School of Design, “Best of the Best” Annual Fashion Show

Joico and ISO Strut Down the Runway at Parsons School of Design, “Best of the Best” Annual Fashion Show

Joico Hair Care and ISO forecast fall trends with the fashion designers of the future by sponsoring the Parsons School of Design Annual Fashion Show.

(PRWEB) May 12, 2005

Joico Hair Care and ISO were prominent sponsors at the Parsons School of Design Annual Fashion Show for graduating seniors. Tabitha Coffey, owner of Industrie Salon and head stylist for Joico and Renee Cohen, master stylist at Lepine New York collaborated with 22 budding designers to create looks that would transition through individual designs.

Paul Goldberger, Dean of Students introduced the fashion show, which consisted of 18 chosen collections of the 106 graduates, all Golden Thimble winners. The collections were described by Gunn as, “a breadth of point of view,” and “embracing innovation.” Jennifer Breeden was recognized as the winner of the Designer of the Year award, we will hear her name again.

“The Look,” was natural and healthy with mega shine and lots of texture. From easy ponytails to more difficult chignons, Joico, the healthy hair company used products like Silk Result Instant Smoother and Blow Out Crème, to get stick straight looks while boosting the models’ hair with hydrolyzed silk proteins. To hold the hair for up do’s, K-Pak Thermal Designing Spray was put to use. For the less controlled down look, stylist used Spray Glace´ from Joico’s Styling and Finishing line. Tabitha Coffey, thought the overall look of the show spoke to the trends of the moment - stick straight.

ISO was in charge of the texture, whether it was the loose curls that bounced down the runway or the choppy layers. Bouncy Crème, a light crème that instantly rejuvenates curly hair by separating and defining curls helped the loose, long curls last down the long, grueling fashion runway. Cohen went for hard edges to counter balance the soft edges of the designs by using Daily Finish, a firm-fix hairspray that provides maximum control.

Top Ten Reasons to Hire an Independent Consultant

Top Ten Reasons to Hire an Independent Consultant

By all means hire! But if you don't want or can't afford more employees? Consider hiring an expert as an independent contractor.

(PRWEB) October 26, 2004

You are not alone in considering outside talent. Professionally promoting your firm, your services, and your people could well mean the difference between a high ranking promotion with an equity-based retirement, or a sharp decline and future downturn for you and the company you own or are with.

Yet, the busier we are with clients, staff concerns and current commitments, the less time we have to manage strategic planning for the future.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics at least 60% of all businesses use independent contractors. Want to know why so many businesses are actively putting independent professionals to work?

The Top Ten Reasons to Hire a Consultant

1. The Bottom Line

Employee expenses add at least 20% to 33% -- often more -- to total payroll costs. In addition to employee salary and other compensation, there are significant “hidden costs”-- payroll taxes, unemployment, and workers compensation insurance and employee benefits such as health and dental insurance, paid vacations, sick leave, retirement benefits, and life or disability insurance.

2. Hourly Rate is More Economical

An employer can actually save money by hiring consultants. Even if they are often paid more per hour than an employee. How?

-Up to 33% of those hidden costs on top of employee salaries are avoided.

-Further, consultants are specialists with specific technical expertise, allowing them to have the right connections and do the job faster and more effectively than an employee without such training and connections. Speed, accuracy and effectiveness will require less of your hourly cost in supervision, correction and loss of productivity.

3. Avoid Headaches and Potential Lawsuits.

Hiring Independents instead of employees reduces exposure to potential lawsuits, such as those alleging job, age discrimination or wrongful termination.

-Further, a wrong hire can lead to lengthy and costly HR requirements and law compliance, and can actually prevent you from undoing a ‘bad hire’.

4. Maintain Flexibility Without Long Term Exposure.

You can hire a consultant to handle a specific project, gaining dynamic and specialized expertise for a short time period. When the job is done, the consultant goes away---and you are not going through the trauma, potential severance costs, and lawsuits that can stem from laying off or firing an employee.

5. Save Time and Expense Involved in Training Employees.

Further, you wonÂ’t encounter resistance and sabotage such as you get when expecting employees to operate out of their comfort zone or level of expertise.

6. Expand and Contract Your Workforce as needed, Rapidly and Inexpensively.

7. Access the Latest in Resources and Equipment Without Paying for it.

-Consultants have their own resources, including transportation, computers, laptops, software and mobile phones. You will avoid costly expenditures, leasing and long term contracts. Or even worse--having an employee trying to perform a critical strategic marketing function without proper training, communications and other equipment.

8. Maximize Efficiency.

Your consultant is producing product--not interacting in lengthy staff meetings, or other internal affairs such producing status reports or other documentation.

9. Stabilize Insurance Costs.

You will not have to be paying for health or other employee and dependent insurance, nor will you have to be paying for unemployment or tying up administrative and accounting personnel tracking potential COBRA benefits for 18 months (for employees that are no longer a part of your organization).

10. Retain and Attract Employees.

You will have greater retention and attraction of top talent if you are a company that is known for hiring resources as needed, rather than overburdening already potentially stressed staff.

Do you think theyÂ’ll go gunning for your job? No, statistics show otherwise. Consultants donÂ’t want to work in a firm. They did that, and now they have their own. They go away then the job is done, making you look great in the process.

Problems with Commercial Pet Foods Inspire Veterinarian to Develop Effective Nutritional System for Dogs and Cats

Problems with Commercial Pet Foods Inspire Veterinarian to Develop Effective Nutritional System for Dogs and Cats

Current pet food recalls underscore need for added nutrition.

Three Rivers, CA (PRWEB) April 25, 2007

Veterinarian Dr. Christianne Schelling has long known that although commercial pet food alone may be sufficient for a pet's survival, additional nutrition is essential for your pet to thrive. When her own 11-year-old dog Jake began to show signs of aging, she decided to take positive action by developing a new nutritional system for dogs and cats.

"Commercial pet food is challenged in the quality of ingredients available for mass production, and often the nutritional value of those ingredients is questionable," says Dr. Schelling.

The current pet food recalls dramatically highlight the problems commercial pet food manufacturers face in being able to control the quality of their raw materials.

"In addition," Dr. Schelling states, "many vital ingredients are destroyed in the manufacturing process itself."

Enzymes, in particular, cannot survive the manufacturing process, as they are destroyed by heat. Probiotics and other desirable ingredients are also adversely affected by the manufacturing process.

"To help my own dog and to stave off the ill effects that would accompany his premature aging, I knew that I had to supplement his diet with a high potency formula of enzymes, probiotics, micro-nutrients, minerals, vitamins and powerful anti-oxidants," says Dr. Schelling. "But since no such product existed on the market, I had to create it myself with the assistance of a top pet nutritionalist."

After five years of formulation and testing, Dr. Schelling's Vetraceuticals Daily Canine Health System is now available to the public. "It is not just the ingredients that are important; it is also the quality and effectiveness of those ingredients. For example, Vetraceuticals, uses a proprietary blend of enzymes (Vetrazymes™), uses only cold water fish as its source of Omega 3's, and all ingredients are human grade," says Dr. Schelling.

Vetraceuticals is in an easy to use powder form that is added to the dog's regular dog food on a daily basis and costs about a dollar a day. "With Vetraceuticals you can have a positive affect on your dog's health for less than the cost of a cup of coffee a day," says Dr. Schelling.

And how is her dog Jake? Dr. Schelling is happy to report that, "At age 16 Jake is still going strong, thanks to Vetraceuticals."

Abstinence Educators Rally in Tallahassee

Abstinence Educators Rally in Tallahassee

Youth and adult advocates for abstinence education will gather on the capital steps Tuesday, March 14, 12:00-1:00 p. m. to show their support of abstinence-only education.

Tallahassee, FL (PRWEB) March 12, 2006

Youth and adult advocates for abstinence education will gather on the capital steps Tuesday, March 14, 12:00-1:00 p. m. to show their support of abstinence-only education.

Initially funded in 1997, abstinence education has played a significant role in the reduction of Florida’s birthrate among 15 to 19 year old females. According to the Fla. Dept. of Health Vital Statistics Report, it has dropped from 60.2 per 1000 females in 1996 to 44.6 per 1000 females in 2004. Abstinence-only education is being provided in 54 Florida counties through private, state, and federal funds.

“Over 150,000 teens and pre-teens receive abstinence-only education from private and government funded community-based programs each year,” said Pam Mullarkey, president of the Florida Abstinence Education Association. “We are also able to reach parents and guardians through these programs as well.”

These organizations uphold the Florida Statute 1003.46 which states that “throughout instruction in acquired immune deficiency syndrome, sexually transmitted diseases, or health education, a school shall (a) Teach abstinence from sexual activity outside of marriage as the expected standard for all school-age students while teaching the benefits of monogamous heterosexual marriage.”

Students throughout Florida provide feedback daily on the importance of abstinence education. “Your staff came to my school this week for three days. Since they have come, my friends are reaching out for help to stop drinking alcohol and stop drugs. Some are even stopping having sex,” wrote as Bradford High School student. “I am so thankful for you and your staff coming to my school. I believe that our school will have a great amount of less drugs and other things. I loved your staff, they were great. I now realize that that getting drunk and partying is not the best thing to do and that there are better things in life to do. Without you I would have never understood these things.”(High School Student quote, 2006)

The Florida Abstinence Education Association (FAEA), founded in 2000, is comprised of organizations throughout the state of Florida that range from 100% volunteer based to those with State and/or Federal funding - but all with the passion to preserve the health of our teens. "FAEA members believe that ABSTINENCE-ONLY education is RISK ELIMINATION – the only 100% effective way to prevent pregnancy, STDs, social setbacks and emotional consequences for our youth.

Low Tech Data Security Measures Essential To Hitech Compliance

Low Tech Data Security Measures Essential To Hitech Compliance

With the February 17 deadline looming, Kroll Fraud Solutions releases white paper outlining key steps to HITECH compliance.

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) December 1, 2009

As the February 17 deadline for the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) approaches, data security and identity theft protection services provider Kroll Fraud Solutions (http://www. krollfraudsolutions. com/) today released the white paper, "Low Tech is the Path to HITECH (http://www. krollfraudsolutions. com/understanding-id-theft/lowtech-white-paper. aspx)," which outlines important steps healthcare organizations should take to comply with the new requirements. According to Kroll, technology alone won't ensure data security; all cyber measures must be combined with low tech approaches, including employee training in data handling. For a comprehensive approach to compliance, companies must focus on data use, storage and access; employee training and communication, evaluation of third-party security measures, and comprehensive incident response planning.

HITECH, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, expands current federal privacy and security protections for healthcare and patient data. It requires that covered entities notify patients if a data breach exposes their Protected Health Information (PHI) to unauthorized persons and mandates notification to affected individuals within 60 days of breach discovery.

"In preparation for HITECH compliance, it's important that healthcare organizations put policies and procedures in place to protect PHI and Personal Identifying Information (PII) against data breaches and identity theft," said Brian Lapidus, Chief Operating Officer. "Technology is a key part of protecting patient data, but too often we see organizations focus solely on cyber security measures, while patient data is walking out the front door. At Kroll, we believe a comprehensive approach that includes both high-level and low-level technology measures is vital to protecting patient data."

As organizations examine their data security measures for compliance, Kroll encourages organizations to take the following steps, all of which are detailed in "Low Tech is the Path to HITECH":
Know your data: Understand the what, where, and when of the data housed within the organization, and then determine how and why it is accessed, used or transported.  Know your employees: Recognize that hiring best practices are an important component in security, as is training and communication.  Know your partner: Assess the importance of performing due diligence with third party vendors and making them aware of their responsibilities in keeping patient data safe.  Know your response plan: Examine the steps needed to actively prepare, respond and prevent (or minimize) the risk of a reoccurrence through a comprehensive and tested data breach response plan.

"Low Tech is the Path to HITECH" examines key issues in the life cycle of healthcare data. It explores the nature of healthcare data (where it resides and how it's lost), data privacy and security post-breach, the role of employees in data security, the cost of third-party breaches, and how to prepare for, respond to, and safeguard against a breach.

Visit Kroll's Web site for more information or to download the full "Low Tech is the Path to HITECH (http://www. krollfraudsolutions. com/understanding-id-theft/lowtech-white-paper. aspx)" report.
