Pima Medical Institute, 957 S. Dobson Road in Mesa has announced Sharon Caves has been hired to fill the new position of Nurse Education Coordinator. Caves, with 32 years of RN experience, will be based in PMIÂ’s Mesa corporate office and will work to achieve state approval and National League for Nursing accreditation so PMI can add a nursing program to its curriculum.

Caves has a Masters of Science degree in HealthCare Management, a Masters of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Education, and is Registered Nurse Board Certified (a national certification by the American Nurses Association which indicates a person who is among the top 10% in their specialty). Caves has both management and teaching experience and has served as a nursing director, nursing consultant, nursing educator and nursing supervisor teaching BSN, LPN and MSN programs.

Her volunteer service includes the Salvation Army, Midnight Mission for the Homeless, and Free Healthcare Clinic. She has served as District President for a state Nursing Association, is a member of numerous state approved task forces, member of the Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society for nurses, has nine certifications, is a member of six professional organizations, and holds nursing licenses in four states and one international country.

“Much attention has been given recently to the nursing shortage,” said Caves. “While educating more nurses is both a challenge and adventure, I feel a personal mission to instill in these soon-to-be new nurses a passion for nursing. Passion breeds excellence, and that is what I hope to be a part of at Pima Medical Institute – the education of passionate, excellent, new nurses.”
