Solution to Traumatic Stress can be Applied Worldwide, Says Leading Psychiatrist
Psychiatrist Frank A. Gerbode, M. D. to deliver keynote speech about what is possible in healing traumatic stress to public in San Carlos, CA on May 12th, 2006.
San Carlos, CA (PRWEB) April 3, 2006
Psychiatrist and author Frank A. Gerbode, M. D. will deliver the keynote presentation “Exploring the Possibilities of Trauma Resolution” to kick off the Northern California Traumatic Incident Reduction Conference on May 12th, 2006. Gerbode’s book Beyond Psychology: An Introduction to Metapsychology created a new paradigm for person-centered, non-evaluative, therapist-directed techniques when it was first published in 1988. Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR), one of the core techniques, has since been successfully demonstrated with a wide variety of clients from at-risk middle-school children in Miami to Vietnam veterans with PTSD to Tsunami victims in India. The keynote event at Vic’s Restaurant in San Carlos, CA is open to the public, but requires advance registration and a nominal $15 fee (contact info listed below).
TIR is used by social workers, psychologists, clergy, and other professionals in a wide variety of settings including victim service agencies, private practice, hospital mental health clinics, veteran care facilities, prisons, and even disaster sites. Because trauma happens to everyone, whether it is a "routine" motor vehicle accident or loss of a loved one, TIR is quickly becoming an important tool in the skillsets of therapists from Australia to England. A brief FAQ (http://www. tir. org/metapsy/tirfaq. htm) provides basic background info for the media.
Dr. Gerbode is an Honors graduate of Stanford University. He received his medical degree from Yale University, and completed a psychiatric residency at Stanford University Medical Center in the early 1970s. Gerbode is the author of numerous papers and articles, which have been published in the Journal of Neurochemistry, the International Journal of Neuropharmacology, the Journal of Rational Emotive and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and elsewhere.
“We are very impressed with the power and simplicity of TIR in helping trauma sufferers work through their frightening experiences and find great relief.”
—Charles R. Figley, Ph. D., Director, Traumatology Institute, Florida State University.
The event is being sponsored by the Traumatic Incident Reduction Association (TIRA). For more information, call (800) 499 2751 or go on line at http://www. tir. org/tircon (http://www. tir. org/tircon).
