Parker College of Chiropractic participated in the single largest one day cleanup event in the state that serves as Texas' signature event for the Great American Cleanup, the nation's largest community improvement project. Parker faculty, staff, and students joined thousands of others who joined forces across the state to clean up roadsides and keep Texas beautiful.
Under the leadership of Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB), Irving joined with hundreds of other communities in a statewide cleanup to raise awareness of the litter problem. More than 130 volunteers gathered at Trinity View Park to clean up the areas surrounding a creek which leads into the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. Workers collected 2,820 pounds of trash and 920 pounds of recyclable materials during a four hour period.
Volunteers throughout the state remove litter from roadsides, city parks, neighborhoods, and waterways during this annual event. An estimated 827 million pieces of litter will collect on Texas highways this year alone, and participation in The Don't Mess with Texas Trash-Off sends a message to Texans everywhere that even the smallest efforts to keep the state clean can really make a big difference.
Special thanks goes to Evelina Esparza Tri-Five, Dustin Fread Tri-Five, Audra and Austin Haire, Keith Hartgraves, Charlotte and Gary Watts, and Ronald and Maria Wells and their family Elizabeth, Rebekah, Joseph, and Jonathan for representing Parker College of Chiropractic.
They were joined by other volunteer groups including: The Universal Peace Federation; Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and Service Learning of North Lake College; Girl Scout Troop 2871; Frito-Lay; Dallas Family Church; and the Islamic Center of Irving.
