Moore Universite’ of Hair Design and The Helen Gentry Scholarship Fund Host The First Annual Kitchen Kosmetologist Kompetition
The Helen Lee Gentry Scholarship Fund and the Moore Universite’ of Hair Design are partnering to sponsor the First Annual Kitchen Kosmetologist Kompetition and scholarship award on September 18, 2006 from 7:30-9 p. m. at Moore Universite’ of Hair Design, 7030 Reading Rd, Cincinnati. The Kitchen Kosmetologist Kompetition is targeted at talented people who practice chemical hair styling and natural hair care without the benefit of professional training and licensing. The event will showcase natural hair and chemical hairstyling categories and award scholarships to the top three finalists in each category.

The Helen Lee Gentry Scholarship Fund and the Moore Universite’ of Hair Design are partnering to sponsor the First Annual Kitchen Kosmetologist Kompetition and scholarship award on September 18, 2006 from 7:30-9 p. m. at Moore Universite’ of Hair Design, 7030 Reading Rd, Cincinnati.
The Kitchen Kosmetologist Kompetition is targeted at talented people who practice chemical hair styling and natural hair care without the benefit of professional training and licensing to encourage them to invest in themselves and the community by getting the training and experience required to earn a Cosmetology license so that they can work in professional salons or even become entrepreneurs in our community. The event will showcase natural hair and chemical hairstyling categories and award scholarships to the top three finalists in each category.
This event will give area youth an opportunity to showcase their skills to an audience of cosmetology professionals and judges. Popular WIZF Air Personality, Jade West, will be the guest host. In addition to the scholarship awards, there will be a raffle of products, services and gift certificates donated by area businesses, including Emerge Salon & Spa.
All proceeds will benefit the 501 ( c)3 Helen Lee Gentry Scholarship Fund. The Helen Lee Gentry Scholarship Fund is a non profit corporation in memory of Helen Lee Gentry, who was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Southern Baptist Church for many years. Helen Lee Gentry was a hard worker whose chosen profession was cosmetology. She graduated from the Poro School of Beauty in 1960 and operated Gentry Beauty Salon as sole proprietor for many years. The Helen Lee Gentry Scholarship Fund recognizes and honors African-American students that live a Christian lifestyle, exemplify academic excellence, and contribute to our community. In the past three years the Fund has awarded $7,500 in college scholarships to 10 very deserving students who attend prestigious colleges such as Tuskegee Institute, Duke University, Spelman College, Ohio State University, Wellesley College and Wittenberg University.
Moore Universite of Hair Design, Inc.'s mission is to provide a healthy, harmonious, learning environment where students and teachers interact to affirm that each student is prepared mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually for the vast opportunities awaiting them in the cosmetology arts and sciences.
The only African-American owned accredited cosmetology school in southern Ohio, Moore Universite` of Hair Design is licensed to operate as a cosmetology school by THE OHIO STATE BOARD OF COSMETOLOGY and NATIONAL ACCREDITING COMMISSION OF COSMETOLOGY ARTS & SCIENCES. Its goal is to provide qualified instructors, learning materials and up-to-date teaching techniques that lead to development of persons most likely to succeed upon completion of the program.
