SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company, Inc. today announced the election of Dr. Evelyn Murphy to chair its board of directors. Dr. Murphy will succeed Joseph Mancino, retired CEO and president of The Roslyn Savings Bank.

Dr. Murphy will succeed Joseph Mancino, retired CEO and president of The Roslyn Savings Bank. Mancino has retired as chairman of SBLI USA after serving on the board since 1991. David Jefferson, Sr. (https://www. sbliusa. com/english/pages/about_us/media_center/company_background/leadership/Board_Directors_Team_Bios/David_Jefferson. html) will serve as vice chair. Dr. Murphy has served as a director on SBLI USA’s board since 2000. Most recently she has served as the company’s vice chairman of the board. During her tenure she has actively participated in the nationwide expansion of the company and has been a driving force in SBLI USA’s women’s initiative. This initiative is a grass roots effort that includes the recent launch of a women-centric microsite, S-women.
Dr. Murphy, an economist, is the founder and president of the Wage Project, Inc., and author of Getting Even: Why Women Don’t Get Paid Like Men and What to Do About It. She is a former health care executive and Lieutenant Governor in Massachusetts. Murphy has served as corporate director of several publicly traded financial institutions, and currently serves on the board of Citizens Energy Corporation. She holds a PhD in economics from Duke University.
Vice Chair, Jefferson, is president and CEO of JNET Communications, LLC, a technology services holding company that includes among its family of companies Vitel Communications and ServiCom LLC. Prior to his association with JNET, Jefferson worked for AT&T for more than 30 years. He serves on the board of directors of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, as director and co-chair of the 1,000 Churches Connected Initiative, and as chairman of the Grambling State University Black & Gold Foundation. He also serves as senior pastor of the Metropolitan Baptist Church of Newark. Jefferson is a graduate of MIT and Capitol Law School, and is a member of the American and the New Jersey Bar Associations.
