Crop protection specialist Ceranova to market green pest control technology.

(PRWEB) April 25, 2007

Exosect, a leading provider of environmentally conscious insect pest control today announced that it has agreed with Ceranova to work in certain European markets with the Exosex CM auto-confusion system. Ceranova is an Austrian based privately owned company situated in Vienna. In addition to Austria, it also operates a sister company based in Bucharest, Romania.

Ceranova's main product lines include plant protection, rodenticides and specialised fertilisers. The company operates across central and Eastern Europe including Slovakia, Czech, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, Bulgaria, Serbia and Montenegro.

Explains Wolfgang Nimmerrichter, CEO at Ceranova, "We are keen to increase our support for green technology and to be able to offer our customers these products in well defined integrated pest management (IPM) programmes. We see the Exosex technology as an ideal opportunity to introduce this concept to apple and pear growers."

Ceranova will now expand its co-operation with Exosect outside of Austria and regulatory trials will be set up in Poland, Romania and Bulgaria using Exosex CM to control codling moth in apple and pear orchards. Exosect technology has raised a lot of interest amongst growers and officials as Martin Brown, Managing Director explains, "The major advantage of using Exosex CM is its flexibility to fit in with IPM programmes. In addition, Exosex CM significantly reduces deployment time and labour costs in the orchards. The way the product works is novel and fascinating and Ceranova is extremely pleased to be at the cutting edge of its development."

Martin Brown adds, "Ceranova is exactly the type of company we want to work with in Europe. They can clearly see the future for this type of environmentally conscious pest control technology, they are passionate in their commitment to bring greener technology to the growers, but they are also careful to ensure that what they offer is well tested and will meet their customers' expectations and needs."

About Exosex CM
Exosex CM is a highly original, environmentally friendly method of pest control. It uses a synthetic female sexual pheromone to attract males into a dispenser where electrostatic Entostat powder, combined with the pheromone, is stored. The powder adheres to the males and a state of 'auto-confusion' results -- their sensors are overwhelmed, they cannot detect females, they act as a false sexual lure for other males and the mating cycle breaks down. The technique is simple, requiring only 25 dispensers per hectare and helps to reduce the use of chemical spraying and the potential of residues in the crop.

About Exosect
Exosect Limited was formed in 2001 to commercialise innovative pest control technology developed at the Southampton University's School of Biological Sciences. Focussing primarily on R&D, Exosect has developed a range of delivery systems based on the concept of attractants and active ingredients formulated with patented powder carrier systems. Specialising in IPM based, environmentally acceptable pest control products, markets include crop protection (agriculture and horticulture), stored product, amenity landscape and public health.
