Few people have ever heard of North Captiva Island, but this little island is the starting point for what is hoped to be a nationwide initiative to fight breast cancer with vacation dollars.

Two homeowners on this private tropical island just launched Project Pink, a program that will donate a portion of vacation rental incomes directly to breast cancer charities.

Project Pink coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness month in October and offers guests the opportunity to contribute to a worthy cause while enjoying vacation time. The goal is for each vacation homeowner to donate 15% of all October rental incomes to charitable organizations that are searching for "the cure."

"This could be an enormous funding stream for breast cancer charities. Imagine if all vacation homes available for rent in October were to participate in this project and make donations. We could really make a difference!" says Wendy Muller, owner of Windswept on North Captiva Island, Florida.

"We were thrilled when we were approached with the idea of using the rental of our vacation home, The Coral Reef on North Captiva Island, to help raise money for breast cancer research!" exclaim Mark Ladner and Diane DiGirolamo. "We both feel strongly that through education and research, major advances still need to be made in this life and death struggle. We are honored that we can participate in not only raising needed funds for this worthy cause, but also provide an ideal location for groups to gather and share their time, stories, and support while strengthening and enjoying themselves."

"Women are seeking out avenues to enjoy a retreat and renewal before heading back to their busy lives… a chance to catch their second wind. As a child of a breast cancer survivor, I have seen firsthand the power of putting health first and keeping one's focus on enjoying life, something no amount of money can buy," says Muller. "North Captiva Island (http://www. northcaptiva. net) offers a spectacular venue to get in tune with nature, enjoy the harmony of life at the beach, and kickstart a health building program. The island remains protected by its undiscovered nature and privacy. The 5 miles of beaches offer endless opportunities to explore or just relax."

"We had one of our best vacations ever. Just cannot decide what to do with bags of shells in our garage," Roger Taylor wrote about his stay at The Coral Reef.

"We've been coming to this island for many years and this was the first house we stayed in that made us truly want to stay forever!" commented Cindy Dominguez of Hollywood, FL after their vacation at Windswept in 2009.

Thus far, two rental homes have joined Project Pink. "We hope to turn this into something much bigger in the years to come," explains Wendy Muller, "adding more vacation homeowners who are willing to participate in this great cause."
