Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) May 16, 2007

Local businesses will be able to learn how to take advantage of the regional and international market through import and export at the first-ever World Trade Week event, Brooklyn Goes Global International Trade Day & Symposium: “Beyond Borders: Creating Opportunities in the Global Marketplace.” The day-long program is being held on Monday, May 21 at the Brooklyn campus of Touro College. Exhibits open at 10a. m. and one-hour seminars are featured throughout the day.

The Brooklyn Goes Global International Trade Day & Symposium is being sponsored by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s Brooklyn Goes Global (BGG) initiative, a marketing, promotional and educational program, in partnership with the Touro College Graduate School of Business. Support is being provided by HIP of New York, HSBC Bank USA, Sovereign Bank and Citi®. The event special keynote, Luis Almeida is CEO of Mexico’s Super Bodega Dona Lupe, Inc.

The trade day and symposium are part of World Trade Week NYC. World Trade Week NYC is a program of the New York District Export Council that promotes trade through a non-profit trade community made up of state and government agencies, chambers of commerce, educational institutions, and other organizations, with key import and export events throughout New York City.

The BGG trade symposium will feature dynamic speakers, informative seminars and hands-on workshops that will educate the business community about the rapidly growing international trade market and underscore the fantastic export opportunities for Brooklyn businesses around the globe.

“The day is a fantastic opportunity for local business in Brooklyn. We have got trade experts, attorney’s, accountants and more! Brooklyn Goes Global is trying to help people involved in importing and exporting expand what they’re doing,” said Steve Kaplansky, BGG director. “Our concept in expanding our borders is to do more. The market is crowded and we have to find places to sell more,” said Mr. Kaplansky, who credits Chamber Member Touro College for hosting the event. “The partnership with Touro’s Graduate School for Business is a perfect match and gives our young leaders of tomorrow, and new businesses in the area, a chance to sit shoulder to shoulder with the experts in importing and exporting. It will be a fantastic day for students, small, medium and large companies who are doing business or want to do business throughout the world.”

“The Touro College Graduate School of Business is delighted to partner with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce in promoting an educational program to help navigate the rapidly growing global marketplace,” said Dean of Business Programs Dr. Charles Snow.

The Touro College Graduate School of Business educates leaders for the business world through a rigorous curriculum that integrates theory and practice and develops critical thinking skills, teamwork, and business communication. Currently, the Graduate School of Business offers an MBA degree with concentrations in management, international finance, and healthcare, and Master of Science degrees in international business finance and international business finance with a specialization in banking.

The event is expected to attract an estimated 500 people to the Touro campus, located in Midwood, including representatives from organizations like the Vietnam Trade Center, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, The Department of Commerce Commercial Services, and The Empire State Development Corporation to name a few.

These and other organizations will discuss conducting business abroad and foreign trade trends. Attendees will learn the steps necessary to expand their business internationally, find international partners, and identify products being sought from overseas markets. Exhibitors including Spadaro International, Azania Holdings, The Republic of Tanzania and Calabar Imports will also be on hand to disseminate information.

“This trade show is going to help give business owners useful information, and if they’re already involved in doing international trade, this will help them synergize and get new ideas,” said Mr. Kaplansky. “And if they’re just thinking of going into international trade, then it will give them tools and knowledge of what to do and what not to do.”

The entire day of exhibits and seminars is Free. Touro College is located at 1602 Avenue J at 16th Street in Brooklyn. For more information or to register for the event, go to www. ibrooklyn. com and click on the Chamber Events page, or call 718-875-1000, ext. 104.
