David Llloyd Leisure Helps to Roll Out a World Record

British canoeist, Helen Barnes, achieved a new Guinness world record recently at the Nottingham West Bridgford David Lloyd Leisure swimming pool.

(PRWeb UK) August 3, 2010

The supply teacher completed 100 Eskimo rolls without a paddle in 3 minutes and 46 seconds, smashing her own record by fifteen seconds.

Helen was cheered on by more than seventy pupils from Radcliffe-on-Trent, Lady Bay and Cotgrave Candleby Lane primary schools where Miss Barnes teaches. The pupils watched poolside at the David Lloyd health club and gym (http://www. davidlloyd. co. uk/home), sporting banners saying ‘Go Miss Barnes’ waving pom-poms and cheering as she got nearer the target.

‘I am absolutely delighted with the result, and so pleased so many people turned up to support me. It helps having people cheer you on and seeing the kids so happy. I am sure that’s why I was fifteen seconds faster’

Among the supporters was seven year old Molly Hicklin from Lady Bay Primary School, who made a banner and a shaker to support her teacher, when asked what she thought of the event Molly said ‘It was very, very good. I was really excited’.

Accompanying the hordes of children who had gathered to watch their teacher break a world record was Candleby Primary headteacher, Chris Wheatley ‘The children love Miss Barnes. We brought 70 of them; they all wanted to be here’.

Rob Beale, Group Health and Fitness (http://www. davidlloyd. co. uk/home) Manager at David Lloyd Leisure said ‘The new world record is a great achievement for Helen and has given her a huge boost for 2012. At David Lloyd Leisure we are really proud to have the fitness facilities to help athletes like Helen achieve sporting successes.’

Speaking about her canoeing future Helen beamed ‘I’m going to have a rest and then start training for the 2012 Olympics’
