Learning Locally

Learning Locally

Learndirect scotland launches a new campaign to promote the benefits of local learning centres.

(PRWEB) May 10, 2005

People throughout Scotland are being urged to discover the benefits of learning locally in a new campaign by learndirect scotland.

It aims to show how learning centres can help people get into learning – whether it’s to help them find work, change career or just take up a new hobby.

Over the last five years, a national network of local learning centres has been created throughout Scotland, offering a huge range of courses - from computing to catering, first aid to French.

There are more than 480 centres in the network, all “branded” by Scotland’s gateway to learning, learndirect scotland. That means they meet high quality standards and put the focus firmly on the learner.

They have been set up to make it easier for people of all ages and backgrounds to get into learning – whatever they want to learn – without having to travel too far to do it.

Learning centres can be found in community centres, libraries, colleges, councils, universities, workplaces, football grounds, an old cinema - even in a shopping centre and on a bus!

Wherever they are, they provide a safe, welcoming and supportive environment where people can get help to choose what, how and when they learn.

Friendly, expert staff will help people find the right kind of learning to suit their needs, at the time and pace they want it.

Where, when and how people learn is changing all the time. These days, people of all ages and backgrounds are finding out about learning and taking courses available right on their doorstep.

In the heart of the community, young mums, teenagers, retired people, unemployed people, people with disabilities, those with full-time jobs, people with mental health issues and business people are using local learning centres to learn new skills.

Many courses donÂ’t affect benefits and there is often help with childcare costs and travel.

The range of facilities available at learning centres varies from centre to centre. But what doesnÂ’t change is this - learning centres are there to help people get started, and to help them to keep going - no matter when, where or how they decide to learn.
