Online Video Production Company Debuts Social Media Technology

Prizm, an online video production agency, debuts its Web 2.0 Media Site™ , Human Host™ and Electronic Video Message Social Media Press Release™ technology.

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) April 24, 2007

Prizm, an online video production agency, debuts its Web 2.0 Media Site™, Human Host™ and Electronic Video Message Social Media Press Release™ technology (www. prizmproductions. com).

The company started developing products to bypass traditional advertising outlets and communicate directly with consumers six years before the national online video trend began. Lori Baerg, president of Prizm, explained that their online video technology reflects tighter measurement systems for clients and high retention rates by the consumers who use them, driving customer loyalty. Read online video trends, market research and news: http://del. icio. us/prizm (http://del. icio. us/prizm).

The Media Sites™, supported by EVM™ Solutions, transform one-dimensional websites into multi-dimensional web experiences. The Human Host™ or virtual host conveys strategic communication, developed by Prizm, to visitors about the company and its services. "Prizm's Media Sites™ overcome traditional marketing limitations by reaching large volumes of online consumers without printing, mailing and packaging expenses," explained Baerg. "The interconnected social media technology allows companies to provide an engaging, personal forum to enhance consumers' experiences."

Prizm's press announcement is also available as an EVM Social Media Press Release™ to demonstrate the capabilities of the EVM Mail product. "EVM Mail is delivered and displayed as an e-mail message and features a Human Host, online video, social media buttons such as del. icio. us, RSS Feeds, Reddit, etc. as well as relevant articles, industry trends, photos and quotes," said Baerg. "Our hope is that the EVM Social Media Press Release will facilitate in modernizing the traditional press release as PR professionals grapple with a more efficient, effective way to communicate with reporters in the Web 2.0 world."

The EVM Social Media Release's multi-dimensional format also provides reporters with online videos that can be repurposed for news sites and accompany online stories.

PR professionals aren't the only ones interested in online video and social media. According to businessweek. com, a growing number of companies are turning to online video, and the word of mouth that accompanies it for everything from advertising to recruiting ("Business Goes Straight to Video," January 2007).

Additionally, businesses are learning that they cannot afford to ignore the 73 percent of adults who use the Internet (Pew Internet & American Life Project, April 2006), the two-thirds of consumers who research products and services online prior to making a purchase (Shop. org/ Forrester Study, June 2006) and the $200 billion in Internet purchases that are expected this year (Shop. org/Forrester Study, June 2006).

"Prizm may not be the only national online video production agency, but we know we are among the few that understands the significance of strategic communication. Online video is ineffective without a sophisticated, personalized message that appeals to and connects with an audience," said Baerg. "Prizm has combined its 20 years of video production experience with 17 years of strategic messaging to launch Media Sites for companies such as Guardian Group (www. guardianml. com), SimpleMan Products (www. simplemanproducts. com), Heartland Health (www. heartland-health. com/body. cfm? id=106 (http://www. heartland-health. com/body. cfm? id=106)), Heartland Cremation and Burial Society (www. heartlandcremation. com) and My Blue Star (www. mybluestar. org). "We are excited about the opportunities that this technology offers and look forward to feedback on these products," said Baerg.

Prizm, an online video production agency, transforms one-dimensional websites into multi-dimensional Media Sites™, creating a rich entertainment experience for consumers. The agency overcomes traditional marketing limitations by reaching large volumes of consumers online without printing, mailing and packaging expenses. Electronic Video Message (EVM) Solutions utilize a tracking and measurement component that allows companies to monitor ROI for marketing, public relations and advertising campaigns. Global Marine Biotechnology Market to Reach US$4.1 Billion by 2015, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

GIA announces the release of a comprehensive global report on Marine Biotechnology markets. The global market for Marine Biotechnology is forecast to reach US$4.1 billion by the year 2015. Key factors driving market growth include growing interest from medical, pharmaceutical, aquaculture, nutraceutical and industrial sectors. Further, widening applications in several end-use areas including marine transportation, environmental remediation, cosmetics, research, and food sectors are also contributing to market growth.

San Jose, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) January 04, 2011

Marine biotechnology plays a key role in exploring and studying various marine biological resources. Marine biotechnology comprises broad range of subjects such as marine environmental protection, marine bioactive substances, genetics, marineculture, fermentation engineering and enzyme engineering. However, marine biotechnology market is still in a nascent stage and accounts for a tiny percentage of the overall biotechnology market. During the years 2008 and 2009, the global marine biotechnology market witnessed a slowdown owing to the global economic meltdown. Nonetheless, the market gained momentum in 2010 with the recovery of economic situation and is expected to post substantial growth in ensuing years. Given the vast untapped potential, the marine biotech sector holds promising growth prospects for the future.

United States represents the single largest region for marine biotechnology worldwide, as stated by the new market research report on Marine Biotechnology. The US is the world leader in marine science research and is home to highly developed international marine research centers specializing in marine biotechnology. Marine Bioactive Substances market is forecast to register the fastest growth rate of more than 4.0% during the period 2009-2015. In terms of end-use, Healthcare/biotechnology constitutes the largest as well as fastest growing end-use segment for marine biotechnology.

Marine resources have a significant impact on social safety and national economy. Biotechnology not only lends a big hand in maximizing utilization of marine resources, but also conserves and safeguards these resources. Despite this, marine biotechnology was not a significant area of investment until recently. Very few countries have initiated national R&D programs to exploit benefits of biotechnology in the marine sector. However, research activity has gained momentum fueled by new technologies that address technical challenges. Underwater technology; chemical and analytical methods; and remote sensing provide vital information on marine resources hitherto unexplored. In addition, advances in aquaculture, drug discovery and fisheries are expected to encourage application of biotechnology in marine industry.

Major players profiled in the report include Aker BioMarine ASA, CP Kelco US Inc., Cyanotech Corp., Elan Corporation plc, FMC Corp., FMC Biopolymers AS, GlycoMar Ltd., Integrin Advanced Biosystems, International Specialty Products Inc., Lonza Group Ltd, MariCal, Marinova, Martek Biosciences Corp., Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc, New England Biolabs Inc, PharmaMar S. A, PML Applications Ltd., Primex Ltd, Prolume Ltd, Sea Run Holdings Inc, and Tequesta Marine Biosciences.

The research report titled “Marine Biotechnology: A Global Strategic Business Report” announced by Global Industry Analysts Inc., provides a comprehensive review of the marine biotechnology markets, impact of recession on the markets, current market trends, key growth drivers, recent product introductions, recent industry activity, and profiles of major/niche global as well as regional market participants. The report provides annual sales estimates and projections for the years 2009 through 2015 for the following geographic markets - US, and Rest of World. Key segments analyzed include Marine Biomaterials, Marine Bioactive Substances and Others (including Marine Biomass and Marine Bio-Process). The study also analyzes the market by end-use segments, which include Industrial Products, Healthcare/Biotechnology, Consumer Products, Public Services and Infrastructure, and Others (includes Mining and Agricultural Applications). Swine Flu Facts, Fears Lead to Increase on Purell Hand Sanitizer, Soap Sales

Swine Flu Facts, Fears Lead to Increase on Purell Hand Sanitizer, Soap Sales

ReStockIt. com reports purchases of hand sanitizers, liquid foam soap pumps and N95 flu masks are up 200%

Hollywood, FL (PRWEB) May 6, 2009

As the swine flu facts (http://www. restockit. com/purell-swine-flu-pr. html) and statistics becoming increasingly alarming, germ-fighting products such as Purell hand sanitizers, N95 masks and liquid foam soaps and pumps are flying off the shelves.

ReStockIt. com, one of the leading online retailers of cleaning and janitorial supplies, as well as office supplies, electronics, restaurant supplies and tools, said their statistics on Purell sales show an increase of more than 200%, while sales of other germ-fighting products such as liquid foam soap pumps (http://www. restockit. com/purell-swine-flu-pr. html) and N95 masks are also seeing a dramatic increase.

"We're doing everything we can to help consumers get the products they need to help slow the spread of germs," said Jennifer DiMotta, VP of marketing. "We've been working with Gojo, 3M and our other vendors to understand upcoming stock, make our customers aware of backorders, and lowering our prices up to 70% off retail," she added.

On April 26, the U. S. government declared the swine flu outbreak a public health emergency.

To help slow the spread of swine flu, the Center for Disease Control's swine flu fact sheet recommends that people stay home if they're sick, avoid close contact with people who are sick, wash hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze - alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective, avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth, cover their mouths or nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, and keep up with health information in their own community.

The CDC also recommends using facemasks if a crowded area cannot be avoided, stating "Facemasks should be considered for use by individuals who enter crowded settings, both to protect their nose and mouth from other people's coughs and to reduce the wearers' likelihood of coughing on others; the time spent in crowded settings should be as short as possible."

Statistics on Purell (http://www. restockit. com/purell-swine-flu-pr. html) and other hand sanitizers show that they kill 99% of germs, while the best method to prevent the spread of germs is thoroughly washing and drying hands with bar, liquid or foam hand soap.

ReStockIt. com is has reduced prices on cleaning supplies and liquid and foam hand soaps and pumps up to 70%. Purell is on sale up to 30%-50% off list price, while N95 masks and other medical supplies are up to 30% off list price.

Enjoy Life® Foods CEO Tells FDA Grocery Stores Remain A Dangerous Minefield for Food Allergic, Food Intolerant and Celiac Shoppers

Enjoy Life® Foods CEO Tells FDA Grocery Stores Remain A Dangerous Minefield for Food Allergic, Food Intolerant and Celiac Shoppers

At the invitation of the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Scott Mandell, CEO, President and Co-Founder of Enjoy Life Foods, the country’s leading manufacturer of allergy-friendly and gluten-free foods, provided comments at a public meeting on the use of advisory labeling of allergens in foods. Mandell cautioned that current labeling regulations are not sufficient to adequately protect food-allergic, Celiac and other special diet consumers.

WASHINGTON (PRWEB) September 16, 2008

Speaking on behalf of the American Celiac Disease Alliance (ACDA) and Enjoy Life Foods, Mandell said, "The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA) was an important first step in helping special dieters get the critical information they need to make informed food choices. However, despite the industry's best efforts at truthful food labeling, grocery stores are still a dangerous minefield for food-allergic, food-intolerant and Celiac shoppers."

Today's public meeting by the FDA is the first step in developing a long-term strategy to assist manufacturers in using allergen advisory labeling that is truthful and not misleading, conveys a clear and uniform message, and adequately informs food-allergic consumers and their caregivers. To that end, FDA solicited comments and information to determine 1) how manufacturers currently use advisory labeling, 2) how consumers interpret different advisory labeling statements, 3) what specific wording is most effective in communicating the likelihood that an allergen may be present and 4) whether consumers find advisory labeling helpful in making food purchasing decisions.

According to Mandell, "Advisory warnings are confusing, inconsistent and do not provide adequate information in order for the millions of Americans who must follow special diets due to food allergies, food intolerances, Celiac Disease, autism and other health concerns to make smart and, most importantly, safe food choices." He went on to point out that gluten, the protein found in wheat, barley and rye, is not currently required to be listed on FALCPA-compliant labels, making it difficult for those with Celiac Disease or a gluten intolerance to obtain critical ingredient information. He explained that the FDA is expected to announce a definition for "gluten-free" soon.

Mandell cited further evidence that current advisory labeling does not provide useful and clear information for consumers. Almost 50 percent of food-allergic people have reported having serious problems using food labels to help them avoid eating certain foods (source: FDA). It's no wonder, as the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) has documented over 30 different advisory warnings on food products. Mandell explained that in the absence of clear standards for advisory statements, consumers are making their own risk assessments based on the various warnings. For example, some food-allergic shoppers may incorrectly assume that one food is safer than another based on its label and accompanying advisory warning. Others may unnecessarily avoid eating a particular food due to the advisory statement. Yet others may assume that the warning is added due to liability or legal reasons and not due to real safety issues.

In his comments, Mandell commended the FDA on its commitment to develop labeling that is truthful, not misleading, clear and uniform, and that adequately informs special diet consumers; however, he explained that he strongly supports the development of consistent, risk-based guidelines for the use of advisory statements by food manufacturers. He also said that he:

Supports more stringent enforcement for manufacturers who do not comply fully with FALCPA regulations Recommends the development of a free, comprehensive consumer database of mislabeled or misleading food products Feels the FDA should consider implementation of a third-party allergy certification system to identify those manufacturers following 'safe' procedures and standards About ACDA

The American Celiac Disease Alliance (ACDA) began to take shape in early 2003 when an ad hoc group of 15 leaders in the celiac community came together to help persuade Congress to require food labels to include information about allergens. The group's efforts were instrumental in the passage of landmark legislation, the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act. The non-profit organization provides leadership on policy issues affecting the lives of individuals with celiac disease, an inherited autoimmune disorder affecting children and adults. The ACDA is recognized internationally for its role in advocating on behalf of all segments of the celiac community. For more information, visit www. americanceliac. org.

Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery Standardizes on AtHoc IWSAlerts Across Entire Command

Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery Standardizes on AtHoc IWSAlerts Across Entire Command

AtHoc awarded contract through BAE Systems to provide centralized emergency notification system to 10,000 personnel, with future deployments reaching all BUMED personnel.

Burlingame, CA (PRWEB) June 23, 2008

AtHoc, Inc., the pioneer and leader in network-centric emergency notification systems (http://www. athoc. com/products/IWSAlerts_overview. aspx), today announced the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) has selected AtHoc IWSAlerts™ to meet the emergency notification needs of the entire command. AtHoc IWSAlerts will be the command's standard for emergency notification, supporting all personnel. The AtHoc emergency notification system will be deployed in phases, and the first contract to begin the roll out was awarded to BAE Systems, covering deployments at Navy Medical Center, San Diego, Ca. and Navy Medical Center, Portsmouth, Va.

BUMED provides high quality healthcare services to 700,000 active duty Navy and Marine Corps members and to 2.6 million retired and family members. The first two deployments will reach 10,000 BUMED personnel, keeping them informed of emergency situations that impact safety and facility security.

BUMED is taking a command-wide approach to emergency alerting and management. It will use a centralized AtHoc IWSAlerts installation to support all of BUMED. Once the system is fully deployed, individual BUMED installations will be able to alert personnel about installation-specific emergencies, and in addition, command headquarters will be able to alert all installations simultaneously when an emergency impacts the entire command.

BUMED will be able to alert personnel via computers, mobile devices and telephones, all from a single, Web-based console. Emergency operators can log into the password-protected site, select a preconfigured emergency scenario, tailor it or create a scenario from scratch, then send out a consistent alert through all alerting channels. Alerts can reach all personnel through redundant channels within minutes. The system also provides a feedback mechanism, allowing the command to track alert acknowledgements and responses from recipients.

AtHoc IWSAlerts supports military-grade security requirements. It has received certification for the Defense Information Technology Security Certification and Accreditation Process (DITSCAP) and it can be integrated with Common Access Cards (CAC). It also dramatically improves the process of keeping alerting contact lists updated by integrating directly with Active Directory and other user repositories to ensure contact information is kept current.

Once the first installation of AtHoc IWSAlerts is complete, the command will be able to easily expand the system to other hospitals and branches. According to Andy Anderson, AtHoc's vice president of defense sector operations, "By implementing a command-wide alerting standard and deploying it centrally, BUMED will realize major benefits. It will be significantly faster to deploy the system across the command, it will be much easier to manage a single system versus multiple independent systems, and they can deploy standard security protocols. In addition, emergency operators can share best practices from one installation to the next."

The BUMED contract represents continued expansion in two key markets for AtHoc: the U. S. Navy and military healthcare. AtHoc IWSAlerts is already being deployed across four of the Navy's regional operations centers, which will ultimately result in four hundred thousand Navy users having access to the system. In military healthcare, AtHoc provides emergency alerting for organizations such as Wilford Hall Medical Center, the Air Force's largest medical facility.

AtHoc IWSAlerts is certified to work on the Navy/Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI).

About AtHoc
AtHoc is a recognized leader in providing enterprise-class, network-centric emergency notification systems to military, government and commercial organizations for physical security, force protection and personnel accountability. Millions of end users worldwide, in organizations such as the U. S. Air Force, U. S. Army, U. S. Navy, Hawaii State Civil Defense, U. S. Patent and Trademark Office, Boeing, PricewaterhouseCoopers and eBay rely on AtHoc's unified management systems for their emergency alerting and critical communication needs. AtHoc has partnered with market leaders including Microsoft, Northrop Grumman, Cisco, Siemens, Avaya, Unisys and others to bring these notification solutions to the public and commercial markets.

Valentine Cawley knows the secret of making a child prodigy: have a baby. Each of his three children by Syahidah Osman Cawley is extraordinary. The Cawleys, an Irish/Malay family, based in Singapore, are discovering that child prodigy need not arrive in the world alone and that a baby genius has brothers and sisters who may also be geniuses, themselves. What is the business of life and education of a scientific child prodigy like? Their new blog confides all about a family of many gifts.

Ainan Celeste Cawley, six, is a boy of many unique gifts: a former baby genius, he is now a scientific child prodigy, with a general gift in science: in physics, chemistry, cell biology and astronomy. He also has a gift for music and art. Fintan Nadym Cawley, three, is a natural actor, with a leadership gift – and an ear for music. Tiarnan Hasyl Cawley, eight months, and a baby genius, has all the precociousness of another nascent child prodigy - and a gift for music.

How many babies speak their first word in their first month? Ainan did. How many speak first in their second month? Tiarnan did. This is the first sign of baby genius.

Http://scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com/2006/09/first-words-of-child-prodigy. html (http://scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com/2006/09/first-words-of-child-prodigy. html)

How many babies crawl at four months? Both Ainan and Tiarnan did. How many babies walk at six months, steadily, confidently and freely? Ainan did - and he was running at eight months. Fintan was crawling at six months and walking at eight months. These too are a kind of baby genius.

Who could read their first letters at eight months? Who can remember their own birth? Who could climb into and out of their own cot at eight months? Ainan could do all of these things.

Http://scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com/2006/09/earliest-walker-earliest-talker. html (http://scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com/2006/09/earliest-walker-earliest-talker. html)

Commenting on this unusually early child development, Valentine Cawley, their father, said: "I believe it is a sign of perfect health of body and mind, that all should work so well, so young."

What was done to nurture such gifts? Who are the parents who made the children as they are? What insights can others gain into child genius from their example? This creative blog will reveal all, day by day. www. scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com

What is a scientific child prodigy? It is a child, aged 11 or under, who shows an adult level of ability in a scientific area. It is a child whose thinking is far beyond their years, who can match or exceed the intellectual function of an adult in at least one area. Ainan Celeste Cawley, at just six years old, is one such. He takes all opportunities to learn, whether at home or school. His reading is adult science material found online on the internet, his questions are often unanswerable by adult scientists. This has been proven by sitting him down with a group of scientists and letting him ask away: generally a ruminative silence is all that meets his questions. (Or an adult effort at deflecting the question, so as to preserve their ego.) It is quite refreshing that a six year old can befuddle professionals, in this way.

For a story about his scientific ambition go to: http://scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com/2006/09/grand-ambition-of-genius. html (http://scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com/2006/09/grand-ambition-of-genius. html)

Ainan’s interests in science are many, from astronomy, to halogen chemistry, from black holes, to cell biology, and the properties of the elements, particularly the super-heavy transuranics and the transfermium elements. He is fond of compounds, solution chemistry, electrolysis and knows the periodic table by heart. His vision is wide, ranging across the disciplines of physics, biology and chemistry – though with a particular emphasis on the latter. Sometimes his insight seems prophetic, for he sees what is possible, rather than what is merely now. He is able to look ahead and see what might be, from what is. Click here for a typical story about Ainan’s scientific insight: http://scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com/2006/09/is-genius-prophetic. html (http://scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com/2006/09/is-genius-prophetic. html)

How about Tiarnan, what makes him a baby genius, and probable child prodigy in the making? Well, he spoke his first words at two months, began crawling at four months, climbing upstairs at five months and two weeks, climbing downstairs at eight months exactly – a very difficult physical feat indeed, for one so young.

Http://scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com/baby-tiarnan-crawls-downstairs. html (http://scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com/baby-tiarnan-crawls-downstairs. html)

Furthermore, he is very sensitive to music, reacting with understanding. Tiarnan is a baby who sings himself to sleep.

Http://scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com/2006/09/baby-who-sings-himself-to-sleep. html (http://scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com/2006/09/baby-who-sings-himself-to-sleep. html)

He loves words and gains pleasure from literature, reacting as if he understands its emotional qualities: smiling when he should smile, becoming unhappy when he should be so (he has been doing this since birth). He is very good at deducing the cause of every effect, connecting the two at once, and pointing to the cause. In this he shows the beginnings of an observational scientist.

Fintan is a boy whose imagination is all powerful. He can live inside the conjured creations of his mind. This is what makes him a natural actor. But he is more than that. He is a natural leader, too, whom others follow. For one example of this, go to:

Http://scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com/2006/09/leader-of-pack_25.html (http://scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com/2006/09/leader-of-pack_25.html)

The blog will follow each of these children as they grow up and give insight into the nature of child prodigy and nascent genius in general. To keep up-to-date with the deeds of this prodigious trio, bookmark www. scientific-child-prodigy. blogspot. com and visit daily for an update: the site will be maintained regularly. Valentine Cawley asks: "Please be so kind as to recommend this site to your friends, and colleagues, using an emailed link – and suggest that they do the same, in turn. Thanks for your help."

The Cawley family, of Singapore:

Valentine Cawley, 38, Irish. A man who has lived many lives: actor, writer, performance artist (appearing on CNN and Reuters, among others, as “Lord Valentine the Misplaced” ), government physicist (at 17), Arts magazine founder and editor, Cambridge University graduate (a place that proved unwelcoming to anyone who dared showed signs of creativity) – and teacher. He is readying two books for publication. He is ambidextrous, which allows him to write in two colours, at once, on the board, with both hands – to the amusement of his students.

He showed childhood gifts for science, music, art, acting, writing and academia.

Syahidah Osman Cawley, 27, Malay. Apart from being eternally youthful, she has a gift for Art, being able to draw the lines of a face, with clarity and perception, rendering each with a personal style that has no comparison. Incidentally, she is an ambidextrous artist and can draw with both hands simultaneously.

AIS Corporation to Secure Miss South Carolina and Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageants

Protection and security support services will include the Miss America Pageant.

Greenville, SC (PRWEB) June 22, 2006

AIS Corporation recently announced they have been selected by both the Miss South Carolina and Miss America's Outstanding Teen pageant organizers to provide full scale security services for the duration of the two events. Services will include contestant protection and security support for these pageants and for the Miss America Pageant to be held in early 2007.

For the Miss South Carolina pageant, to be held June 29 through July 8, AIS will mobilize a team of highly skilled and seasoned protection experts to ensure an incident free event. The AIS team will be led by protection veteran Rodney Neely who will take responsibility to execute a security master plan designed specifically to cover minute-by-minute movement throughout the pageant including activities the week prior to the event and the competition week. Neely has been involved with the Miss South Carolina pageant for 15 years. AIS security and protection specialists will coordinate with local law enforcement officials to fully secure all aspects of the pageant for contestant protection, hotels and the competition site.

"Security and protection for our event is extremely important and a critical function for the success of the pageant operations," states Joseph P. Sanders, IV, vice president, Miss South Carolina Organization. "AIS is a natural choice for our needs with their experience, attentiveness and professional manner in which they provide their full and complete security services. We are pleased to have them for the 2006 pageant."

On a national level, AIS will integrate their services with those from state and federal law enforcement including the FBI for Miss America's Outstanding Teen pageant to be held in Orlando, Florida August 16-19. Protection will be provided to all contestants and specific security services will cover the competition site, hotels, off-site venues and all movement involved with the pageant. AIS will be involved in all activities related to the event including pre-pageant programs, rehearsals and the final competition.

Additionally, AIS will provide security support and protection services for the Miss America Pageant in 2007. Services will include contestant security and transportation safety for preliminary competition in Hollywood, California and for finals week. AIS will once again be led by Rodney Neely who previously developed, coordinated and managed the Miss America pre-pageant week visit to Washington, DC. This involved integrating with Federal law enforcement and Secret Service officials for visits to state representatives in the Senate and Congress.

"Events of the magnitude of Miss America's Outstanding Teen and the Miss America Pageant demands the highest level professionalism and attention to detail," states Scott Willis, president of AIS. "We deploy those on our team who have pageant and special event security expertise work with state and federal resources to ensure a safe and smooth event from start to finish. It is a privilege to provide these services to all pageant contestants and to the Miss America Organization."

Ringing Cedars Propose the Best Solution for the Food Crisis: A Global Vision for an Attainable, Sustainable Future

Ringing Cedars Propose the Best Solution for the Food Crisis: A Global Vision for an Attainable, Sustainable Future

The Ringing Cedars Readers Conference with author Vladimir Megre attracted individuals and groups from Russia, the Ukraine, the USA, Canada, Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden, Iraq, Kuwait, the UK, Hungary, Cypress, Greece, Georgia, Armenia, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Croatia and Australia. Vladimir Megre is the author of the best-selling book series Ringing Cedars and he and his writings are a tangible inspiration to millions of readers. A recurring theme throughout all of the books is the personal, social and spiritual power which ensues when an individual or family create what Megre calls their "Kin's Domain". The definition of this term is a hectare (2.5 acres) of family-land which is developed into a self-sustaining type of Micro Farm which is the best solution for the world food crisis.

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 18, 2008

The Ringing Cedars (http://www. ringingcedarsofrussia. org/Main/English/index. php). This October, only a short distance apart, like-minded individuals and groups devoted to finding sustainable solutions to the global food crisis were meeting at two related venues in Europe. Italy hosted another of its annual Terra Madre gatherings this month, which was inaugurated with written addresses from the Prince of Wales and the Secretary of the United Nations, General Ban Ki-moon. Slow Food and the Terra Madre Foundation were the organizers of this third world meeting of food communities. Turkey was the site of another gathering of people thoughtful about the future of the planet, about nature and intelligent food-production as opposed to the destructive practices motivated by "greed and ignorance," as one participant called it. The latter was promoted under the name Ringing Cedars Readers' Conference (http://www. ringingcedarsofrussia. org/conference).

While the Terra Madre gathering was inspired by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon (with his message that "finding long-term solutions to the world food crisis was one of the priorities of the United Nations", and that he welcomed "initiatives which contribute to such solutions"), the Ringing Cedars Conference, at another coast of the Mediterranean Sea in Turkey, called themselves the "Uniting Nations", in appreciation of the numerous countries represented at the meeting, and their mutual, global concerns for the Earth and its inhabitants.

These developments are commonly undertaken as part of an eco-village and celebrate life and freedom from the unnatural pressures and stresses of modern life, while enjoying the comforts and benefits of helpful technologies. Eco-villages (http://www. ringingcedarsofrussia. org/theearth/ringing-cedars-newspaper-interview-vladimir-megre-part2-2008-oct. html#n2) are oftentimes found close to large cities, so people who still like to travel to their work can live in loving and nurturing environments while continuing their "city-commitments", which might even include a small indoor food-garden in a city-apartment.

Over 300 Kin's Domain eco-villages have been developed or are in various stages of development, all inspired by Megre's own inspiration - namely a young, beautiful recluse woman who has lived her entire life by herself in the harsh environment of the Siberian Taiga - Anastasia.

Anastasia is the title of the first book in the Ringing Cedars of Russia series and the name under which over eleven million readers discuss her theories affectionately. In twenty-two languages world-wide, the readers of the series learn that Anastasia had initially met up with Vladimir Megre at the river Ob in Siberia in 1994 (http://www. ringingcedarsofrussia. org/vladimir_megre_ringing_cedars_story. php). She shared her deep wisdom with him for three days, and permanently changed his life. Megre was a successful and affluent business-man at the time. However, after his time with Anastasia, he began clumsily and miraculously to turn himself into an author, one best-selling volume at a time.

In an amazing synchronicity, Prince Charles' inspirational statement for the Italian gathering emphasized that the solution to the current global food crisis, and its ensuing problems, rested largely with what he called "truly sustainable" farming. He also emphasized how crucial it was for the voices of the participants to be heard in the global debates concerning these issues. As quoted from the transcript of his message, he was "enormously encouraged that so many people are today recognizing the benefits of working with nature and harnessing positive forces through healthy soil, healthy crops and healthy animals in order to provide healthy food." And in addressing the sustainable farming community, he expressed "nothing but my greatest admiration for all you stand for." He called sustainable farmers "guarantors of our long-term food security, based upon your dedicated care of the natural environment."

Dr. Regina Jensen, a Santa Barbara psychotherapist, attended the Turkey conference. She is an independent writer and editor of the new Space of Love Magazine (https://www. ringingcedarsofrussia. org/store. php? id=sol01), with publisher and co-editor Yuri Smirnov. The magazine, in print and online, is one of many international publications supporting the Ringing Cedars movement. Dr. Jensen attended the gathering to conduct interviews with Anastasia author, Vladimir Megre. The center of her interest with this interview, she said, was the ideas offered by this "inspiring movement," namely Anastasia's and Megre's ability to not only inspire, but inspire-to-action so many thousands of people world-wide.

"Most of us know what we should do, or not do, to help save this planet from the thoughtless destruction we have wrought upon it," said Jensen. "But until the Ringing Cedars of Russia information came along - translated into English only a few years ago - we have been unable to find true inspiration, a global vision which would not only inspire, but would also truly transform our endangered planet in a relatively short time. There is something about this wonderful information which has the potential to awaken humanity, which 'Wows' the Soul, as Mark Victor Hansen (co-author with Jack Canfield of the Chicken Soup for the Soul) put it for me when sharing his own experience of the Ringing Cedar books (http://www. ringingcedarsofrussia. org/store. php? id=listof_2books)."

Dr. Jensen does not make such claims lightly. For some time now, the focal point of her concerns continue to lead her in the direction of sustainability. In that quest, she recently visited Sepp Holzer's International Permaculture center in Austria, Krameterhof, where she found confirmation of the Ringing Cedars information. The Permaculture Center has gained world-renown for its ability to thrive in a very inhospitable climate, with luscious and unusual crops grown on heretofore barren soil. Sepp Holzer, (the owner and nature-genius who has proven that anyone can build a self-sustaining paradise and feed his family, regardless of where they live) besides running the center, now teaches and consults globally.

Anastasia and Megre firmly believe that such a Space of Love, a Kin's Domain, will not only offer food, shelter and true freedom, but also a "connection with the Universe" which bestows spiritual strengths and powers by way of a re-connection with universal energies (http://www. ringingcedarsofrussia. org/theearth/vladimir_megre_conference_zurich_2008_may. html#world112). Notably, Megre often discusses the energies of the plant-kingdom, which, he feels, have been tragically ignored, abused and underestimated. In his books, Anastasia apparently also describes a method with which the plant-kingdom can be engaged to produce food which develops specifically to help an individual to correct health challenges.

The global vision of finding ways to resolve the food crisis, either through re-developing inexpensive waste-lands, through government programs of leasing or land-trusts, or by simple land purchases is "as brilliant as it is simple," as one follower has described the concept. Historically, the Russian Dacha Gardens, the German Schrebergaerten, and the American Victory Gardens are examples of families having provided wholesome food - and life - for themselves even during times of economic hardship and food crisis by way of food-gardening. In some regions, the government is helping people without the financial means to obtain such dreams. Jensen adds that her own family has enjoyed such a family-plot for 56 years, which is still feeding the family with fruits and vegetables.

The Austrian Krameterhof (though outstanding in its beauty and fabled climate, and created by way of intelligent harvesting of water, use of large rocks for warmth and novel application of grading and use of plantings) is not the only Permaculture center which is inspiring people who fear that the land they have available is too dry or barren. Geoff Lawton of the Australian Permaculture center, in a celebrated effort in Jordan, showed that "you can make a paradise anywhere" when he "greened" the desert in an area where the parched, salinity-stressed ground was so hard, dry and dead that even the locals were laughing at the idea (greeningthedesert. com). Lawton's demonstration of the intelligent use of water-harvesting and what he calls "swales" is yet another seemingly miraculous transformation, which is deeply encouraging.

"Megre's books," says Dr. Jensen (http://www. ringingcedarsofrussia. org/theearth/ringing-cedars-winds-of-change-2008-august. html#1), "describe a vision of plan which can resolve many problems our modern civilization faces today. The health, cultural, resource energy, financial and food crisis may all be restrained and solved without a huge investment and new technologies, but only with the help of wise laws, which will free the land for the people."

"The whole world can be a paradise," of growing and blooming parcels of land, tendered by loving families, one hectare at a time. Whether people live in Italy or Turkey, Russia or Germany, America or Australia, or any of the other wonderful countries which were represented at the Turkey conference, we really need very little, "...but it needs to be the right thing. Wholesome food, uninjured nature, good loving friends, family and neighbors, and a safe and clean environment is what most of us truly want. We now have blueprints to create just that - in a very short time - as enough people have demonstrated."

Whitmore Author Sandi Musk Featured in Jan. 26 National Enquirer, Negotiating Appearance on Nationally Syndicated Television Talk Show

Whitmore Author Sandi Musk Featured in Jan. 26 National Enquirer, Negotiating Appearance on Nationally Syndicated Television Talk Show

January is National Stalking Awareness Month and Whitmore Author Sandi Musk is featured in the January 26 National Enquirer. She also is in negotiations to appear on a nationally syndicated television talk show.

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) January 29, 2009

January is National Stalking Awareness Month and Whitmore Author Sandi Musk is featured in the January 26 National Enquirer. She also is in negotiations to appear on a nationally syndicated television talk show. Musk is the author of Stalked! From Victim to Victory, A Journey to Self. The compelling autobiographical account tells her life story: from her childhood during which she felt herself to be an inconvenience to her parents; to a string of failed relationships; and then a chance meeting with a friendly stranger who turned out, in the end, to be a stalker who terrorized and almost killed her. But Musk's courageous and intimate account does not end there. The story continues as Sandi Musk heals and rebuilds her life by committing herself to helping other victims of stalking and domestic abuse.

One in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. An estimated 1.4 million American women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner. A full 85 percent of domestic violence victims are women. Historically, most females have been victimized by someone they know. In 70 - 80 percent of intimate partner homicides, the man physically abused the woman before the murder. Most cases of domestic violence are never reported to the police. Domestic abuse and violence are about power and control. The abuse can be emotional, psychological, physical, or sexual. These are the startling, cold facts that this book, Stalked!, brings to life in describing the struggle and survival of a very real and vulnerable woman, Sandi Musk.

After six months of dating the man who became her stalker, Musk tried to break up with him. He beat her within an inch of her life, leaving her unable to move and with damage to her eye and multiple broken bones. The attack began in her home, where she was viciously beaten and bitten. He bit off her ear, then, after attempting to drown her, he took her in her car to a remote location where he intended to kill her. Miraculously, after a six-hour ordeal, Musk escaped. Her attacker left on foot and hid from police for two years. During this time, Musk was placed into the Witness Protection Program for her own safety. Finally her abuser was captured and she was able to return to her life.

Musk has founded SELF (Self Empowerment, Life Fulfillment), a non-profit organization that supports those who are victims of stalking and domestic abuse. A former member of the U. S.Army, Musk is currently studying criminal justice. The co-author, Anita Levine is a professional writer who has won several awards for her poetry. She has taught high school English and creative writing.

Stalked! From Victim to Victory, A Journey to Self (2008, paperback, $22.00, ISBN 978-0-87426-8) is available from the publisher, Whitmore Publishing. For more information contact: 866-451-1966.

During January 2009, communities across the country will observe National Stalking Awareness Month, a time to focus on a crime that affects 1.4 million victims a year. This year's theme, "Stalking: Know It. Name It. Stop It." challenges the nation to combat this dangerous crime by learning more about it. Stalking is a criminal justice and public health problem and is linked to intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and intimate partner homicide. Data from a 2005 CDC study indicated that approximately 7 million women and 2 million men in the United States had been stalked at some time during their lifetime. Although some stalkers are strangers, most victims know the person who is stalking them; often, the stalker is a spouse or partner, ex-spouse, acquaintance, or family member.

Although the legal definition of stalking varies widely from state to state, the term "stalking" generally refers to harassing or threatening behavior a person engages in repeatedly, such as following a person, appearing at a person's home or work, making harassing phone calls, leaving threatening messages, or vandalizing a person's property. Stalking can disrupt a victim's life at home, school, and work and affect their relationships with family, friends, and coworkers. Stalking also can lead to violence. In an estimated 25%--35% of cases, stalkers commit violence against the persons they are stalking. Factors that increase the likelihood of violence by stalkers are verbal threats and having had a prior intimate relationship with the victim. A 10-city, nationally representative study of female homicide victims conducted in 1999 indicated that 76% of female victims of intimate partner homicides were stalked by their partners before they were killed.

Ear Health News: Natural Treatments to Ease Tinnitus Intensity

Ear Health News: Natural Treatments to Ease Tinnitus Intensity

Dr. Andrew Cheng, ENT, offers help to Tinnitus sufferers.

Edison, NJ (PRWEB) October 1, 2008

Tinnitus is one of those frustrating and infuriating conditions for which there is no cure. In fact, an estimated 50 million people (according to the American Tinnitus Association) suffer from some degree of tinnitus or ringing in the ears (http://www. lipoflavonoid. com/Pages/Tinnitus) that ranges from mild to severe - so severe that it can have a huge impact on one's life.

"One of the most important issues with ringing in the ears is the fact that it is traumatic to the person suffering from it, and it often affects their family or other close relationships, too," says Andrew Cheng, M. D., an otolaryngologist and clinical assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at New York Medical College and ear health advisor for Lipo-Flavonoid (http://www. lipoflavonoid. com/Pages/Tinnitus), a clinically-proven, dietary supplement that has shown promising relief for tinnitus sufferers.

There are several lifestyle changes to consider, from managing stress to eliminating sodium, caffeinated and alcoholic beverages. Dr. Cheng also suggests tinnitus patients try Lipo-Flavonoid, a nutritional supplement that contains the B complex group of vitamins in a base of lipotropic agents, such as choline, inositol and pantothenic acid, plus vitamin C and bioflavonoids.

"Seventy percent of my patients with tinnitus have had some level of success with Lipo-Flavonoid, which provides nutritional support to improve circulation in the inner ear for overall ear health."
The exact formulation of ingredients in Lipo-Flavonoid has been tested numerous times in clinical studies (http://www. lipoflavonoid. com/Pages/LipoStudies) on humans and the results have demonstrated relief and improvement in the tinnitus, he adds.

For those with ringing in the ears, any improvement is a major benefit, since there is no known cure. For additional tips for easing the intensity of tinnitus or for more information about Lipo-Flavonoid products, please visit www. stopearringing. com.

Note to Media: To set up an informative interview with Dr. Andrew Cheng, please contact Laura Giardina at (914) 241-0086, ext. 20.

Empowered Benefits Delivers Benefits Enrollment and BenAdmin Solution to National Retailer hhgregg

Working with partner Healthx, developer of the leading benefit platform solution for the human resources industry, Empowered Benefits has deployed its solution after an analysis of hhgregg’s business requirements and specific flow of information between the company’s employees, its headquarters and its benefits providers.

Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) June 14, 2010

Empowered Benefits announces successful delivery and deployment of a custom benefits enrollment and BenAdmin solution for hhgregg. The Empowered Benefits solution meets hhgregg’s complex business requirements and allows for scalability and expansion without increasing the work burden for internal IT, HR or Benefits staff.

Working with partner Healthx, developer of the leading benefit platform solution for the human resources industry, Empowered Benefits has deployed its solution after an analysis of hhgregg’s business requirements and specific flow of information between the company’s employees, its headquarters and its benefits providers. Empowered Benefits has created a custom, seamless portal that automates this process.

“We have one HR department, in our Indianapolis headquarters,” notes Alison Caskey, hhgregg Benefits Administrator. “As we move into states further away, it becomes tougher to communicate changes to our plans. Also, if an associate has a change in status, we’ve relied on forms to be completed and faxed to our office, which pressures our store managers as well as our office here in Indianapolis to ensure accuracy and timeliness.”

Empowered Benefits implemented a BenAdmin enrollment system during open enrollment that alleviated the hurdles of providing benefits to a widespread workforce.

“There was an acute need for hhgregg to show how benefits selection affects associates’ payroll deductions. hhgregg offers a flexible spending account that required complex calculations for employees who are hired midyear as well,” said Gaston Gage, President and CEO of Empowered Benefits. “We’ve delivered an automated enrollment and BenAdmin portal that could help associates, store managers and benefits managers acquire and process information quickly and efficiently.”

Empowered Benefits implemented a BenAdmin enrollment system during open enrollment that alleviated the hurdles of providing benefits to a widespread workforce. The whole solution was delivered through an integrated Healthx wellness portal.

The enrollment portal also serves as an important communications link to hhgregg employees. It provides simplified plan summary explanations and links to detailed information. In addition, the associate is able to see summaries of enrollment for each dependent and rates for each of their elected benefits.

With more than 4,000 employees (and plans to add significantly to that number), seven different benefits plan offerings, each with a full set of enrollment forms, hhgregg has experienced a huge savings in paper and printing from the outset. The company will save a significant amount of staff time spent on clerical work and will not have to add significant resources during its planned growth.

Top 10 States with the Greatest Number of Sex Offenders Listed at CriminalPages. com

Top 10 States with the Greatest Number of Sex Offenders Listed at CriminalPages. com

Sex offender numbers have been shown to be incorrect in many top 10 searches.

Boston, MA (PRWEB) February 26, 2010

With over 400,000 registered sex offenders in the United States, the value of the sex registry is obvious. However, with many statistics incorrect, CriminalPages. com lists the top 10 states with the highest number of sex offenders. Sex offender registries are in place to ensure that every released sex offender report their whereabouts to law enforcement, so that the government can then, offer this information to the public. While each state varies as to how public and available this information is, a citizen looking to see who's living and working in their area can do so with the right amount of research. This information is now available to the public on CriminalPages. com.

Up until now, the accuracy and comprehensiveness of this data was always accepted as optimum-that is, until recent studies showed that much of the registry information found from sex offender registries was grossly miscalculated, misrepresented, and unreliable.

Generalized Sex Offenders
One of the biggest issues with state registration of sex offenders is that all sex offenders are required to register, regardless of their potential danger to children. So, this means those committing child rape, prostitution, engaging in consensual teenage sex, urinating in public, etc are all lumped into one category-meaning the numbers that a person may find in their neighborhood could be more or less safe than they originally imagined-and they would never know which.

Repeat Offenders
Many of the people on state sex offender registries will be repeat offenders-it's true; but that other amount of offenders who were involved in non-violent crimes-such as public urination, prostitution, or consensual teenage sex-will not; so any number of statistics drawn from the pool of 400,000 registered sex offenders is misrepresented.

People You Know
Most all original and recent sexual registry law regulation on the public awareness of these individuals focuses on protecting children from the strangers; when, in actuality, most all of sexual offenses committed against children involve a family member or someone they know well. So, the error is also in the psychology of who is committing these atrocities. Not considering people that you know as part of stats in your state registry is another problem with the system.

Recent Sexual Registry Laws
There have been a number of laws in place to effectively optimize the registration of sexual offenders for community awareness and protection; but holes still persist in the framework, making the accuracy of sex offender registries most often accurate.
Online Registries: All states must have sex offender registry information online for the public that includes an offender's criminal offenses, a photo, their address, age, etc. This said, not every municipality and state has this system in place yet.  Restrictions on Residency: Many states and cities in the country have enforced restrictions on how close to a public place of gathering for children a registered sex offender can live and work. So, for both violent and non-violent offenders; residency is restricted from areas near schools, daycares, and playgrounds.  Adam Walsh and Megan's Law: Megan's Law was put into effect to ensure that the public could be made aware of sex offenders living in their cities and reduce the possibility of repaet offense through this knowledge. The Adam Walsh Act was passed in 2006 to correct any inconsistencies that states and cities might have had in how they were making this information to the public.

Extensive research conducted by Criminalpages. com contends the information commonly associated with more popular sex offender registries (http://www. criminalpages. com/content/national-sex-offender-registry/) is skewed. "Our research seems to have thrown conventional sex offender statistics on their head", says Mathew Johnson, Director of Research for Criminalpages. com. "People need to know where sex offenders – sex predators – are living. Unfortunately, the statistics are wrong. One list in particular claims New York has the highest number of offenders per million residents. Our research says otherwise." The above reasons are holes in the system that are contributing to this misinformation-that is not only wrong, but downright dangerous!

The Real Statistics on Sex Offenders
If you have any interest in the safety of your family and yourself, you need to be able to locate the real and verifiable statistics on sex offenders in your area. The research from Criminalpages. com lists the top 10 states in terms of sex offenders per million residents (from lowest to highest) as:

10. Iowa

Iowa has 2089 sex offenders per million residents. It has been enforcing sex offender laws that then-Governor Tom Vilsack (D) termed "the nation's toughest against sex offenders." Among these laws, is a doubling of prison terms for sex crimes committed against.

9. South Carolina

There are 2241 sex offenders per million residents in South Carolina. According to the State Criminal Code, all information regarding all adult sex offenders (17 and older) must be registered for public scrutiny, but only 40% of and can accessed online.

8. Utah

With 2254 sex offenders per million residents, Utah has the dubious distinction of being ranked 8th among the 10 states with the most registered sex offenders. In addition to a name, photograph, and address, the registry provides the make and model of the offender's car.

7. Texas

The Texas Department of State Health Services (http://www. dshs. state. tx. us/csot/csot_tfacts. shtm) claims approximately 250,000 children in Texas are victims of sexual predators every year. The state claims 2270 offenders per million residents, but suffers from a lack of rigorous enforcement. Some estimates claim approximately 40% of sex criminals in the state are not registered with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

6. Delaware

The First State has 2456 sex offenders per million residents on file. Delaware is one of the few states that require sex offenders to register their new addresses – in person no less – within 3 calendar days. Most states grant offenders 5 to 10 days.

5. Florida

With 2610 sex offenders per million residents on file, it is disconcerting the state of Florida does not place restrictions on where sex offenders can live following their release from prison or probation. Likewise, released sex offenders are not barred from any kind of employment, as long as they do not work directly with children.

4. South Dakota

All 2846 sex offenders per million residents in South Dakota must register with the state for the remainder of their lives. While some states expunge non-violent sex offenses, anyone convicted of a sexual offense in South Dakota must inform the Sex Offender Registry within 5 days of moving – for the rest of their lives.

3. Wisconsin

Though Wisconsin penal codes mandate a minimum sentence of 10 years for convicts who assault children, the state is home to a staggering 3156 sex offenders per million residents. There are only two other states that can claim more sex offenders.

2. Montana

Montana is home to 3746 sex offenders per million residents. In a renewed effort to better inform and protect the public, the Montana Department of Corrections has allowed sex offenders' residents to be pinpointed online using Google Maps.

1. Arkansas

With 5954 sex offenders per million residents, Arkansas is home to the largest concentration of sexual predators and convicts in the United States. Oddly, the Arkansas Crime Information Center only requires an offender's name and address be displayed for public scrutiny. With so many offenders, many children's rights advocates insist the state should be providing more detailed information, including an offender's current place of employment.

By way of comparison, the state with the least amount of sex offenders was Minnesota, with only 22 offenders per million residents.

LegalView Continues Monitoring of Developments Regarding Traumatic Brain Injury as Defense Department Distributes Funds to Combat More American Servicemen and Women Returning with Brain Injuries

LegalView Continues Monitoring of Developments Regarding Traumatic Brain Injury as Defense Department Distributes Funds to Combat More American Servicemen and Women Returning with Brain Injuries

With traumatic brain injuries (TBI) affecting more than 1 million civilians each year and as many as two-thirds of American service members returning from overseas, brain injuries are a vital contemporary public health issue. LegalView. com is proud to provide a free, comprehensive portal on TBIs to help victims and their families learn more about the medical and legal aspects of surviving a brain injury.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) August 21, 2007

With traumatic brain injury (TBI) remaining a serious and growing public health issue, LegalView. com is committed to maintaining one of the web's most comprehensive portals of information and news on TBIs. This is especially important as more and more U. S. servicemen and women return from combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan having suffered a debilitating traumatic brain injury. The effect has become so widespread that the U. S. Department of Defense recently dedicated approximate $450 million nation-wide to help veteran treatment centers better combat the challenge that treating TBIs can cause. This dispersion of funds includes subcontracting to innovative programs such as the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicines in Pomona, CA, which received a $17.3 million contract to develop new brain injury treatment strategies in late July.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 1.4 million people in the United States sustain a brain injury each year, largely through falls, car accidents and sports. And unfortunately, that number doesn't take into account the TBIs suffered by returning veterans; TBIs have been called the signature injuries of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. With much of a generation at risk for the catastrophic disabilities that TBI can cause -- including physical, mental, emotional and behavioral problems -- LegalView invites readers who want to learn more to visit its complete TBI portal at http://brain-injury. legalview. com/ (http://brain-injury. legalview. com/).

Traumatic brain injury is a medical term for any blow to the head that disrupts normal brain function. Even a blow that doesn't cause unconsciousness can be a TBI. Stronger blows can cause serious physical disabilities, amnesia, learning problems, comas or even death. The CDC reports that TBIs are responsible for about 50,000 deaths each year and 235,000 hospitalizations. In addition, the United States Army's Walter Reed Medical Center reports that as many as two-thirds of the soldiers that come through its doors on their return from Iraq and Afghanistan have incurred a TBI. Those who survive a traumatic brain injury may lose part or all of certain brain functions permanently. The disabilities that result from a TBI can be permanent and may require years of physical and occupational therapy, long-term medication and ongoing oversight by medical specialists. In addition to being a catastrophic change in the lives of the victims and their loved ones, this can be extremely expensive.

Victims, their families and anyone else interested in learning more about traumatic brain injuries are invited to browse LegalView. com's comprehensive online collection of brain injury information (http://brain-injury. legalview. com), which is offered free to the public. The TBI portal site includes a collection of original articles, a brain injury blog tracking TBI news and research, collections of information on jury verdicts and settlements related to TBIs, a glossary of brain injury terms, and an attorney referral service to help families and victims get counsel from an experienced brain injury lawyer (http://brain-injury. legalview. com/).

LegalView's free offerings don't stop with the traumatic brain injury portal. Visitors can browse many other portals addressing issues that are important to contemporary America, including resources to help individuals get in contact with a mesothelioma lawyer (http://mesothelioma. legalview. com/), a construction accident attorney (http://construction. legalview. com/), or an auto accident lawyer (http://crash. legalview. com/). All of these portals, and LegalView's other resources, contain basic information, legal resources, guides to medical and industry jargon, links to useful books and web sites and more. And those who are interested in speaking to a lawyer can also take advantage of LegalView's free online attorney referral service, which matches potential clients with experienced attorneys in their areas.

LegalView. com is a free public service brought to you by Legal WebTV Network, LLC, a Limited Liability Corporation formed by the nation's most distinguished law firms: Anapol Schwartz; Brent Coon and Associates; Burg Simpson; Cohen, Placitella and Roth; James F. Humphreys and Associates; Lopez Hodes; and Thornton and Naumes. For more information on the accomplishments and track records of LegalView. com's well-regarded sponsoring law firms and to get in touch with LegalView attorneys, visit LegalView at http://www. legalview. com/ (http://www. legalview. com/).

Want to Lose Weight?

Want to Lose Weight?

The results of recent scientific studies make it likely that using the Dreamhelmet, a combination sleep mask sound-blocking pillow, may aid weight loss by helping people sleep better.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 29, 2005

The results of recent scientific studies make it likely that using the Dreamhelmet, a combination sleep mask sound-blocking pillow, may aid weight loss by helping people sleep better.

University of Chicago researchers reported in the December 7, 2004, issue of the "Annals of Internal Medicine,” that insufficient sleep causes changes in levels of hormones that regulate hunger, making a person crave fattening foods.

The study is believed to be the first one to show that sleep is a major regulator of the hormones ghrelin, which triggers hunger, and leptin, which tells the brain when it's had enough food. This affirms a quote by Jim de Cordova, creator of the Dreamhelmet, a patented sensory deprivation device, "If you don't sleep, you must eat, and vice-versa."

Both sleep deprivation and the percentage of Americans fighting obesity have been increasing since the 1960's. According to the National Sleep Foundation, Americans are averaging about two hours less sleep per night since that time. De Cordova believes these two trends are more than just casual bedfellows, and are aggravated by an increasingly frantic and noisy society.

De Cordova stated, "Just see a film from the 1960's; everybody had long hair and was slim! People in the 1960's thought about peace, meditation, the environment, and personal development - most of which is ignored by today's junk culture. To lose weight and be healthy, a person needs to slow down, think about what's really important, and learn to sleep right. Turn the TV off and get a Dreamhelmet to pillow the head and block out light and sound. Get a slim and healthy start because of better sleep."

Blocking light and sound and providing a pillow so the wearer can sleep anywhere, the Dreamhelmet has secret pockets near the temples that contain foam ear plugs. These pockets can hide credit cards, money, valuables, spare car or house keys or an alarm watch for a personal wake-up signal. The Dreamhelmet also converts to a simple small pillow, attachable pillow, hand warmer, or muff. 100 percent cotton cradles the head and a choice of several attractive fabrics grace the outside. The Dreamhelmet costs $29.95 plus shipping. For more information, or to place an order, write to Joe Hart, Dreamcloud Productions LLC, P. O.
