Pima Medical Institute Celebrates 35 Years in Healthcare Education

Pima Medical Institute Celebrates 35 Years in Healthcare Education

Pima Medical Institute, with campuses in Seattle and Renton, celebrate 35 years in healthcare education.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) October 31, 2007

In the same year that President Nixon made an unprecedented eight-day visit to China, M*A*S*H premiered on CBS and Carole King first sang You've Got A Friend, Pima Medical Institute first opened its doors. Thirty-five years later, Pima Medical Institute, with a campus in Seattle at 9709 Third Avenue NE, Suite 400 and 555 S. Renton Village Place in Renton, PMI has successfully placed thousands of men and women in careers in healthcare.

Founded by Richard Luebke Sr. and his wife, JoAnn, the privately-owned, career college opened its first campus in Tucson in 1972. The Seattle school has been in operation since 1989; the Renton campus opened its doors in 2004. In addition to these schools, PMI has campuses in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mesa and Tucson, AZ., Denver and Colorado Springs, CO; Las Vegas, NV and Chula Vista, CA.

Although initially PMI offered business related programs such as Grocery Checking, PBX Operator and Hotel Motel Management, Luebke Sr. was inundated with requests to train nursing aids and in 1973 he shifted the focus to healthcare. PMI began its first medical program and ran five classes at a time for nurses' aids and medical receptionists. More than three decades have passed, and careers in healthcare are still going strong.

Luebke started his career in education working for other school franchises. He earned a reputation as a "firefighter" - someone who was always cleaning up after someone else. He knew that if he could run things his way, he, and the students who came to his school, would be successful. Thirty-five years later, Pima Medical Institute has earned the reputation of being one of the top career colleges in the U. S.

"The secret to success is being right - run your business right, treat people right, and give your students their money's worth," said Luebke Sr. "Survival in the school industry can be brutal. Too many companies run their operation like it's a fast food franchise. It's more than "making the donuts" each day. It's personalized, it's family and it's loyalty to all. That's why Pima has survived."

The Seattle campus opened in 1989 and offers programs for Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiography (Associate of Occupational Science), Veterinary Assistant and Veterinary Technician.

PMI's newest campus in Renton opened in 2004. Its programs include: Dental Assistant; Medical Assistant; Medical Administrative Assistant; Pharmacy Technician; Phlebotomy Technician and Veterinary Assistant.

PMI is one of the premier medical career colleges in the western United States. The privately owned, accredited school provides students with a well-rounded education embracing theoretical classroom studies, as well as on-site training at medical facilities that mirror the working environment they will pursue after graduation.

Solid Chosen by Secure Computing Corporation for SmartFilterÂ’s SmartReporter - Maintains Dynamic, Highly Available Database of URL Usage Activity

Solid Chosen by Secure Computing Corporation for SmartFilterÂ’s SmartReporter - Maintains Dynamic, Highly Available Database of URL Usage Activity

Solid Information Technology Corp., the first to provide an Autonomic Data Management Platform, announced today that Secure Computing Corporation (Nasdaq: SCUR), the experts in securing connections between people, applications, and networks™, has selected Solid EmbeddedEngine™ as the data management platform in its SmartReporter™, a robust reporting solution offering real-time feedback on an organization’s Web usage. SmartReporter is used in conjunction with SmartFilter® v4.0 Web filtering applications.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (PRWEB) June 24, 2004

Companies worldwide face the challenge of enabling their employees to productively utilize Web resources while preventing time-wasting, illegal or unacceptable web usage. The solution is Web filtering that enforces corporate Web access policy, allowing transparent access to authorized resources but blocking access to unsuitable sites. Enter Secure Computing and its industry-leading Web filtering product, SmartFilter. SmartFilter is installed on leading proxy servers or caching appliances and firewalls. All Web page requests pass through SmartFilter and are instantly evaluated against the organization's Web policy using the SmartFilter Control List. Requests are then allowed, denied, delayed, or coached, according to the policy.

SmartFilter maintains a dynamically changing list of millions of blockable URLs that are built by Secure ComputingÂ’s team of multi-lingual Web Analysts who look at thousands of Websites everyday to ensure accurate categorization and comprehensive global coverage. SmartReporter is a powerful new reporting solution for SmartFilter that allows organizations to understand their Web usage and take effective steps to enforce acceptable use policies. The new SmartReporter offers unparalleled precision reporting capabilities through a browser-based desktop tool that allows managers to immediately create detailed reports on the Web use of individuals, groups, and departments. Secure Computing turned to Solid for its SmartReporter data management needs. The lightweight but robust Solid EmbeddedEngine provides a scalable, relational data manager for customer Web use log files, while requiring effectively no database administration. Integral to the Solid Autonomic Data Management Platform, Solid EmbeddedEngine ensures that SmartFilterÂ’s SmartReporter data takes care of itself.

“We needed a scalable data management platform that provided a stable environment on which to develop new features, but we had to avoid incurring large administrative overhead,” said Mike Gallagher, Secure Computing’s senior VP of product development. “SmartFilter is installed in devices that run unattended, so a standard enterprise DBMS was clearly unsuitable. Solid gave us the feature set we needed in a compact, self-managing, cost effective, package that has been proven in similar environments.”

“Developers of software appliances are increasingly realizing that it makes good business sense to embed Solid in their applications,” said Jussi Harvela, president and chief executive officer of Solid Information Technology. “Solid provides all the benefits of an enterprise DBMS with none of the design management headaches. So they get their product to market faster, while lowering their total cost of ownership.”

OIT and South Carolina BlueCross Complete Integration Project with IBM’s OD390

OIT and South Carolina BlueCross Complete Integration Project with IBM’s OD390

STATE COLLEGE, Pa (PRWEB) November 23, 2005

Optical Image Technology, Inc. (OIT) has recently completed a major software integration project with BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina (BlueCross). The project, led by OIT, integrated OIT’s DocFinity image repository with their IBM® mainframe On Demand 390 image repository (OD390) The project recently received a first-place Process Innovation Award from Kinetic Information LLC for its success.

BlueCross, a major insurer and the largest processor of Medicare and TRICARE claims in the United States, manages large amounts of paperwork that must comply with time-sensitive government-mandated service level agreements (SLAs). With the goal of improving efficiency in all areas, BlueCross decided that the best solution was a paperless workflow, built around its corporate image repository.

BlueCross selected DocFinity® software, which includes Web Services, to interact with OD390 in order to access, retrieve, and route paper documents electronically.  The integration was able to utilize the existing RACF security layers that BlueCross had in place. The final phases of the integration project were rolled out recently, and BlueCross is now able to expedite service processing with greater speed and accuracy, even with third parties from remote locations.

“DocFinity software is capable of major integrations like the one at BlueCross, opening doors for companies to pursue paperless processing, whether they already have an image repository or not,” said Harold Hockman, OIT’s director of professional services, who was an integral part of the integration.

BlueCross currently has five business units that now have greater access to the more than four billion documents housed on OD390. DocFinity is able to access and use automated workflow to push critical images such as correspondence, appeals payments, receipts, medical records, enrollments and other materials through its operations areas paperlessly.

"Our leveraging of the OIT solution and our image repository is just beginning. When the project spans the enterprise, there will be no paper-initiated workflows in our organization. When you eliminate passing the paper, you realize significant quality and cost improvement,” said Anne Castro, Chief Design Architect at BlueCross.

Headquartered in Columbia, S. C., BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina (www. SouthCarolinaBlues. com) is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, an association of independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans.

David Llloyd Leisure Helps to Roll Out a World Record

British canoeist, Helen Barnes, achieved a new Guinness world record recently at the Nottingham West Bridgford David Lloyd Leisure swimming pool.

(PRWeb UK) August 3, 2010

The supply teacher completed 100 Eskimo rolls without a paddle in 3 minutes and 46 seconds, smashing her own record by fifteen seconds.

Helen was cheered on by more than seventy pupils from Radcliffe-on-Trent, Lady Bay and Cotgrave Candleby Lane primary schools where Miss Barnes teaches. The pupils watched poolside at the David Lloyd health club and gym (http://www. davidlloyd. co. uk/home), sporting banners saying ‘Go Miss Barnes’ waving pom-poms and cheering as she got nearer the target.

‘I am absolutely delighted with the result, and so pleased so many people turned up to support me. It helps having people cheer you on and seeing the kids so happy. I am sure that’s why I was fifteen seconds faster’

Among the supporters was seven year old Molly Hicklin from Lady Bay Primary School, who made a banner and a shaker to support her teacher, when asked what she thought of the event Molly said ‘It was very, very good. I was really excited’.

Accompanying the hordes of children who had gathered to watch their teacher break a world record was Candleby Primary headteacher, Chris Wheatley ‘The children love Miss Barnes. We brought 70 of them; they all wanted to be here’.

WEF, AWWA Launch New “Work for Water” Web Site

WEF, AWWA Launch New “Work for Water” Web Site

WorkForWater. org offers resources for recruiters, job seekers

Alexandria, VA (Vocus) June 8, 2010

The Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the American Water Works Association (AWWA) today announced the launch of WorkForWater. org (http://www. workforwater. org/), a collaborative Web site featuring resources for water recruiters, career seekers and students.

The site addresses one of the water community’s top concerns in the coming decade -- the expected retirement of 30% of the water workforce and the need to recruit new talent to the field. AWWA and WEF in March announced the Work for Water outreach campaign, which promotes water careers as both professionally fulfilling and aligned to the greatest public health and environmental cause of our day -- access to safe water and sanitation services.

The new Web site is a gateway to many recruiting and retention resources already available throughout North America and beyond. WEF and AWWA are inviting organizations to contribute documents, videos and links that benefit both career seekers and employers.

“Work for Water aims to generate excitement about and interest in careers in the water profession," said WEF President Paul Freedman. “This new Web site will act as a recruitment tool for all of us who are trying to make information on water sector careers readily available."

“A vibrant, reliable water workforce is critical to the health of our communities and the environment,” added AWWA President Craig Woolard. “The Work for Water Web site will highlight some of the great work already being done to address the coming workforce crunch.”

The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, which joined AWWA and WEF members in developing the Work for Water campaign, posted a portion of its new ''Water you waiting for?'' video on the site. WorkForWater. org also highlights efforts such as the Georgia Association of Water Professionals’ H2Opportunity! and the Water Sector Competency Model jointly released by WEF, AWWA, the U. S. Department of Labor and U. S. EPA last November.

The site has landing pages for four audiences: high school and vocational school students, college students, second career and retired military job seekers, and advanced science professionals.

For more information, visit www. WorkforWater. org].

QuickMedical® Presents Smart Caregiver Patient and Fall Alarms

QuickMedical® Presents Smart Caregiver Patient and Fall Alarms

QuickMedical® is pleased to announce the addition of Smart Caregiver products to their extensive medical equipment and supply inventory. Smart Caregiver products are designed to help reduce fall and wondering of patients in care facilities, and allow care-givers to be alerted immediately.

Issaquah, WA (PRWEB) October 11, 2010

In 2000, there were almost 10,300 fatal and 2.6 million medically treated non-fatal fall related injuries. Direct medical costs totaled $0.2 billion dollars for fatal and $19 billion dollars for non-fatal injuries. Of the non-fatal injury costs, 63% ($12 billion) were for hospitalizations, 21% ($4 billion) were for emergency department visits, and 16% ($3 billion) were for treatment in outpatient settings. Medical expenditures for women, who comprised 58% of the older adult population, were 2-3 times higher than for men for all medical treatment settings. Fractures accounted for just 35% of non-fatal injuries but 61% of costs.

Scott Hanna, CEO at QuickMedical® said, "Falls are the third most common cause of unintentional death in all age groups, and the leading cause among people 65 years and older. Patient falls are consistently the largest single category of reported incidents in hospitals." Mr. Hanna concluded, "We have had a number of requests for devices that will help reduce falls and wandering in care facilities and homes. By adding the complete line of Smart Caregiver to our inventory, we help to meet this need."

Besides having high quality fall and wandering monitors and alarms in the facility, according to MayoClinic. com, there are 6 tips to help prevent falls:
Make an appointment with your doctor: Discuss the medications you're taking. If you fell before, do you know why? Could your health conditions cause a fall?  Keep Moving: Physical activity goes a long way toward prevention by improving strength, coordination and flexibility.  Wear Sensible Shoes: Consider changing to shoes that will help avoid slips and are properly sized for your feet.  Remove Home Hazards: Secure loose rugs, use nonskid floor wax, add nonslip mats in the bathtub or shower,  Light Up Your Living Space: Brightly light your home to avoid tripping on hard to see objects, place night lights in the bedroom, bathroom and hallways.  Use Assistive Devices: Your healthcare professional might recommend a cane or walker, use a raised toilet seat, and add grab bars for the shower/tub.
