Bethesda, MD (Vocus) October 14, 2010

New book: The Guide to Good Health for Teens & Adults with Down Syndrome

The Guide to Good Health for Teens & Adults with Down Syndrome presents the gold standard of health and wellness care that all families, caregivers, and medical professionals should aspire to.

Written by Drs. Chicoine and McGuire, it’s the companion book to the highly acclaimed Mental Wellness in Adults with Down Syndrome (Woodbine House, 2006). Both of these comprehensive resources are the culmination of the authors’ experiences serving the health needs of over 4500 people with Down syndrome since 1992 at the well-respected Adult Down Syndrome Center at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in suburban Chicago.

In this new book, Drs. Chicoine and McGuire provide invaluable insight into what health problems are more common in their patients, and how medical issues can "present" differently in people with Down syndrome. In a clear, empathetic style, they discuss how to promote a healthy lifestyle to prevent problems, and how to recognize health problems early on to ensure appropriate care and the best outcome. The Guide to Good Health is a resource families and caregivers can refer to over and over again, whether it’s to find strategies to get a teen or adult to cooperate with treatment, or to consider if a symptom is being misdiagnosed or misunderstood.

Key topics include:
Characteristics of Down syndrome that can affect health care More commonly occurring medical issues The connection between mental & physical health Dealing with hospitalizations Long term health and well being throughout the lifespan Advance directives and end of life issues Specific medical conditions (ranging from skin and nail problems, eye, nose and throat issues, and cardiac concerns, to thyroid disorder, diabetes, Alzheimer disease, and sleep problems)

For each condition, the authors discuss symptoms, the diagnostic process, and treatment options, and provide abundant case studies throughout.

National Scoop The Poop Week

National Scoop The Poop Week

There are environmental and health risks when you don't pick up after your pet

(PRWEB) March 13, 2004

With the winter thaw past and spring time almost upon us it is time to think about picking up all the dog waste that has been left behind. Staring the day after "National Sense of Smell Day" (April 26)comes "National Scoop the Poop week"(April 27 - May 3). With the popularity of dogs increasing so has the problems of dog waste. Most city dwellers have seen and perhaps even smelled, a winters' accumulation of dog waste in such common areas as school yards, parks, alleys and even on sidewalks. With so many dog owners not cleaning up it has become more than a minor inconvenience. In addtion to being unsightly, canine waste not only attacks our senses with offensive odors, but attracts rodents and insects (which carry their own diseases), and worse, leaves humans and their dogs vulnerable to the threat of salmonella, worms and parasites who unknowingly come into contact with the waste.

There are not only potential health risks involved but also environmental issues that need to be addressed. When dog waste is not picked up and properly disposed of, it can wash into nearby bodies of water or carried by runoff into lakes and streams, untreated dog waste can become a significant source of runoff pollution.

A second environmental issue to consider is the use of plastic bags when picking up after our dogs. Plastic takes on average 300 years to degrade. Plastic bags that are used also tend to end up in municipality sewer systems, blocking the system. There are now many biodegradable alternatives avaiable.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends cleaning up after your pet at least once a week.

Taking precautionary safety measures and disposing of your dogs waste can prevent infections in both humans and their dogs.

Diane Rossi, owner of Have Doggie, We'll Doo! a professional canine waste management company in Chicago says "consider these numbers - 4 tons of dog waste from 200,000 dogs ends up on the streets of Paris on a daily basis". Two - three days of accumulation from 100 dogs would contribute enough bacteria to temporarily close 120 square miles of beaches.

New ACTion Assessment and Planning Tool Helps Companies Launch Worksite Wellness Programs, Avoid Common Pitfalls

New ACTion Assessment and Planning Tool Helps Companies Launch Worksite Wellness Programs, Avoid Common Pitfalls

While wellness programs sound like a great idea, most companies’ efforts to implement wellness programs are doomed before they even start. The reason is simple: lack of preplanning. Other obstacles that impede successful implementation of worksite wellness programs include lack of employee interest, insufficient staff resources, and the inability to elicit the support of upper management. ACI Specialty Benefits is now eliminating these risk factors with ACTion – a unique six-step assessment and preparedness tool that identifies an organization’s readiness level and ultimately brings wellness from a “good idea” to a successful reality. Today’s announcement is listed below.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) April 30, 2008

Most companies’ wellness (http://www. acispecialtybenefits. com) programs are doomed from the start, largely due to a lack of pre-planning. ACI Specialty Benefits is using a revolutionary approach to wellness with ACTion – a six-step assessment and preparedness tool that identifies an organization’s readiness level and equips it to avoid the common obstacles that prevent such programs from becoming a successful reality.

“So many efforts to implement wellness program fail before even getting off the ground,” says Dr. Ann D. Clark, founder and CEO of ACI Specialty Benefits. “I always hear ‘What about the ROI?’ or ‘How do we know this will work for us?’ but what people are really saying is, ‘I don’t know if we’re ready for wellness.’”

A recent National Worksite Health Promotion Survey reports that five obstacles impede successful implementations of worksite wellness (http://www. acispecialtybenefits. com) programs: Lack of employee interest; insufficient staff resources; inadequate funds; failure to engage high-risk employees; and the inability to elicit the support of upper management.

“Preplanning is the focus of ACTion,” Dr. Clark adds. “ACI is excited to help organizations define their wellness goals, create a customized plan to reach those goals, and ultimately implement a fool-proof wellness plan tailored to the values of the target population and workplace culture.”

With six simple yet effective steps -– Awareness, Contemplation, Testing, Initiation, Outcome, and Next step -– ACTion creates a climate for change, a desire for change and a measurable, sustainable willingness to change. The first three steps assess leadership’s buy-in, the organization’s history of change behavior, corporate culture and values, with key metrics (http://www. acispecialtybenefits. com) to measure program efficacy. The final three steps then focus on program specifics and internal branding, marketing and promotion for the program.

Moving forward with a timeline, outlined goals, and expected outcomes is key, says Dr. Clark. “With all of these components in place, a corporation will attain a long-standing and successful wellness program.”

“Change is a process, not an event,” says Danelle Pereira, ACI’s Wellness Director. The ACTion system is based on a model of change originally developed by renowned behavioral scientist Prochaska. This model has been the basis for developing effective interventions to promote health behavior change. It has been successfully applied to a wide range of problem behaviors including smoking cessation, exercise, alcohol abuse and stress management, among others. ACI Specialty Benefits’ model of change at an organizational level insures wellness interventions match the specific needs of an organization.

Taunton, Mass. (PRWEB) May 18, 2007

Continuing to innovate the hummus industry, Tribe Mediterranean Foods, a leading trendsetter in the rapidly growing Mediterranean food category and creators of America's favorite hummus, introduced the industry's first nationally distributed Organic Hummus. Certified as USDA organic by Quality Assurance International (QAI), Tribe's Organic Hummus provides retailers with a tasty, high-quality product from a trusted name-brand manufacturer. QAI certifies up to 70 percent of U. S. organic products and is a trusted name in the organic certification industry.

Tribe will initially introduce four Organic Hummus flavors for retail grocery in 8 oz containers -- Classic, Roasted Garlic, Sweet Roasted Red Peppers and Cracked Chili Peppers. The products will retail for an MSRP of $3.49. In conjunction, Tribe is introducing the industry's first Organic Hummus Party Trays in six different flavors. Tribe's Organic Party Trays come in two varieties and features 3/6oz varieties of organic hummus in each tray. The first Organic Hummus Party Tray includes 6 ounces of Classic, Roasted Garlic and Sweet Roasted Red Peppers. The second Organic Hummus Party Tray will contain Tribe's Forty Spices, Zesty Lemon and Cracked Chili Peppers. Made from the finest ingredients, Tribe's Organic Hummus has an industry leading 80-day shelf life from the date of production.

The North American organic foods market continues to sizzle and will reach the $20 billion mark within the next few years, according to the Organic Trade Association. The growth in the market can be attributed to increased supply in fresh produce, as well as an emerging organic market in frozen products, beverages, confectionary and ready-to-eat foods.

"Consumers are seeking out and purchasing organic foods at a record pace," said Rick Schaffer, VP of Sales and Marketing for Tribe Mediterranean Foods. "Our Organic Hummus line is certified organic by QAI and gives our retailers the ability to stock their deli cases with a trusted organic brand and attract consumers that demand high-quality, organic products."

Tribe distributes nationally to retailers, wholesalers and foodservice establishments throughout the U. S., Canada and Mexico. Tribe's Organic Hummus suggested MSRP for an 8 ounce container is between $3.49 - $3.79 per unit.

Tribe's organic hummus products are USDA certified organic, are trans-fat free, gluten-free, preservative-free, GMO-free, non-dairy, certified Kosher, vegan friendly and contain no saturated fats, cholesterol or hydrogenated oils. All Tribe Organic hummus products have an industry-leading 80-day shelf life and undergo the most stringent quality assurance procedures in the industry.

New Fast Eddy's by Cookshack Smoker Oven Has a 300 Lbs. Capacity and Rolls into Buildings Through a Double Door

New Fast Eddy's by Cookshack Smoker Oven Has a 300 Lbs. Capacity and Rolls into Buildings Through a Double Door

Cookshack, Inc. launches its newest, and smallest rotisserie model, smoker in its Fast Eddy's by Cookshack line of 100% wood burning smoker ovens for the commercial and competition markets.

Ponca City, Oklahoma (PRWEB) May 23, 2007

It's a dilemma faced by many barbecue restaurants and caterers: How to get that big pit into the building. The new Fast Eddy's by Cookshack Model FEC300, with a 300 lb. capacity, solves that problem. The 100% wood burning pit is is 49.25" wide and 80.5" tall and will roll right through a double door.

"We know that most people are working in existing buildings and how impossible it is to move big pits in and out, so we came up with this solution. By placing two of the FEC300's side by side with left and right facing doors, the restaurateur has a 600 lb. capacity without tearing out part of the building," says Ed "Fast Eddy" Maurin, inventor of the FEC line of 100% wood burning smokers and championship barbecue cook.

Kansas City Meat Processor Praises FEC300 as Economical

Bichelmeyer Meats has been a Kansas City meat institution since 1890, and have been using FEC100's since they bought an original model from Eddy in the late 1990's. They recently added the first FEC300 made for sale to their arsenal of smokers, and they are enthusiastic about the results. Says Matt Bichelmeyer, "The FEC300 is great, in it we do the meats that we've always produced, but we now can do them better. It produces a nicer product in color, tenderness and taste. We do Slim Jims, Beef Jerky, and 12 kinds of Sausage in it, as well as smoked pork loin and pork chops. It's proved to be a very valuable piece of equipment. It's actually put more money in our pocket, especially when you look at the cost of fuel. The cost of burning gas vs burning pellets has been unreal. It's much more economical to smoke with the pellet burners.

Put It On A Trailer And Take It On The Road!

Cookshack's competition and catering customers have made the FEC line of custom trailer configurations their choice for moving their smokers from place to place. The FEC300 is no exception. In addition to the usual trailer features, the FEC300 trailer has room for an optional 65x12x12" Delta toolbox. The toolbox will easily hold two 20 lb. bags of wood pellets, three 5 lb. jars of Cookshack barbecue spices, and a gallon of Cookshack barbecue sauce, with room left over for other supplies for the caterer or competitor.

The FEC300 has five rotating rotisserie racks, with three removable shelves per rack. Shelves can be configured for slabs of ribs or larger cuts of meat by removing one or more shelves.

Meets or Exceeds Air Quality Standards

As urban areas crack down on smoke, the FEC line continues to gain in popularity because of the smokers' ability to add perfect smoke flavor to meats without putting a large volume of smoke in the air. The food grade heat-compressed wood pellets used by the FEC smokers produce a clean smoke that gives excellent flavor and meets standards imposed by health departments.

Fast Eddy's Smokers Take Teams to the Winners Circle

Smallpox Vaccine to Be Developed by MDM Group's Biodefense Division

Smallpox Vaccine to Be Developed by MDM Group's Biodefense Division

SANTA CLARA, CA (PRWEB) August 6, 2005

MDM Group, Inc. (OTC. PK: MDDM) advises that its Biodefense Division is finalizing agreements to develop a novel vaccine for smallpox designed for safe public immunization to counter bioterrorism.

Currently available smallpox vaccines use modified live vaccinia virus that are time intensive in their application. They are also not considered safe for use in certain segments of the population, especially those with skin diseases, immune disorders, HIV, and pregnant or lactating mothers.

In addition, the FDA requires a "Black Box" (serious danger) warning on a large proportion of the currently available doses of smallpox vaccine due to concerns about occurrence of heart toxicity called acute myopericarditis in healthy individuals.

Smallpox is a top priority on the U. S. Centers for Disease Control bioterrorism threat list. Smallpox was declared eradicated in 1980 and the last outbreak in the U. S. was in 1949. Although the official repositories of the virus are maintained under high security in the United States and Russia, there is concern that terrorists may have access to smallpox virus that could be used as a bioweapon. If this happened, many people could become seriously ill as smallpox is highly contagious and virulent and as many as 30% of those infected could die as there is no known cure - if the hemorrhagic or flat smallpox variants were to be used the death rates could be as great as 95-99%.

MDM Vice President, Ed Stephen, stated that the new vaccine is expected to be safe in all population segments as well as be effective against all strains of pox viruses by the nature of the proprietary component selection process. He further advised that the Company expects to announce further details of the project and agreements during the course of the coming week.

MDM Group's Biodefense Division is focused on discovery of and rapid development of vaccines and other countermeasures to support the Homeland Defense requirements of the United States government and its citizens as well as those in other countries.

MDM Group's business interests are focused on the Security, Biodefense and Homeland Security industries.

Martial Art and Karate Can Help Children With ADD / ADHD

Martial Art and Karate Can Help Children With ADD / ADHD

Martial Art and Karate can help Children with ADD / ADHD. Classes available in Windsor, Belle River and Tecumseh ON

Windsor Ontario (PRWEB) November 20, 2005

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) affects up to 5 percent of all North American children ages 5-18, according to Sports Illustrated For Kids writer Rose Kennedy.

Furthermore, estimates range from one to four million youngsters take Ritalin, the drug of choice in treating ADD and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

One conclusion drawn from numerous studies is that children diagnosed with ADD or ADHD are more successful in structured activities.

ABC News correspondent Karen Chase writes, "It's so simple it's hard to believe, but the latest technique for combating the symptoms of ADD is martial arts." Parents see increased self-esteem and improved focus and concentration abilities in their children.

"Using mind-body disciplines, martial arts seem to address the short attention spans of today's children, even those diagnosed with ADHD," says a recent report by HealthAtoZ. com. Boys diagnosed with ADHD outnumber girls three to one.

Many martial arts schools are teaching the principles advocated by Mr. Miyagi in the "Karate Kid" movies and moving away from the beat-em-up tactics portrayed in most other fictional karate and kung fu films. In an interview for Children Today, martial arts expert and author Joyce Roberson explains that "contrary to the visual perception of karate being a violent sport, the premiere dictate of this sport is nonviolence above all else."

One such place preaching "brain over brawn" is The Peaceful Warriors' Martial Arts Institute, located at 1625 Tecumseh Road East in Windsor Ontario. Founder Master Art Mason has been teaching martial arts for 20 years and began working with ADD and ADHD children in 1988. The Peaceful Warriors' Programs have been very successful helping these children adapt to not only school, but social life as well.

The Peaceful Warriors' Martial Arts Institute offers many different classes for children from all areas of life. One of the primary focuses in the school is teaching of the 5 tenets of the Peaceful Warriors'. These are Integrity, Courtesy, Self Control, Perserverence and Indomitable Spirit. Understanding and living these tenets help a child do well in all areas of their live.

"We teach our students to protect themselves in ways that are non-threatening and non-physical, leaving physical means as a last resort."

Book Spills Scary Truths About Your Food and Reveals Benefits of Eating Organic

Book Spills Scary Truths About Your Food and Reveals Benefits of Eating Organic

Breast cancer and liver disease survivor Sandra Powers explains why she attributes her current state of health to an organic lifestyle in her new book "Organic for Health."

Englewood, FL (PRWEB) March 17, 2008

If added hormones, antibiotics, synthetic pesticides and reprocessed sewage are all things you'd rather not ingest on a regular basis, then you should consider eating organic, says author Sandra Powers in her new self-help, health book "Organic for Health" (ISBN 9780595473083, iUniverse, Inc., 2008). According to the U. S. Department of Agriculture standards, organic food may not contain added hormones, antibiotics, synthetic pesticides, irradiated components, genetically modified organisms or reprocessed sewage, but conventionally grown foods may, Powers says.

"Organic for Health" shares Powers' incredible story of surviving both breast cancer and liver disease. After receiving the grim diagnosis, she had a mastectomy, but could not undergo any further cancer treatment because her liver was so unhealthy. When a year had passed without any liver function improvement, Powers decided to take control of her health by switching to an organic diet. Within six months, she was feeling much better, her liver was completely healed and her overall cholesterol dropped 40 points.

"Organic for Health" educates readers about the health and nutrition benefits of organic food and about the dangers presented by conventionally grown food and intensive farming. The book also includes delicious organic recipes and additional sources for supplementary research. Powers explains why it's healthier to obtain vitamins and minerals from organic food, rather than multivitamins and supplements, which can actually increase the risk of death if they contain too much Vitamin A or E.

"Organic for Health" goes one step further than explaining the benefits of an organic lifestyle and actually provides tips for financially transitioning to an organic diet. Powers suggests first buying organic replacements for the foods eaten most often, such as milk, eggs and chicken, and then slowly adding other organic foods to the grocery list. Milk, eggs and chicken not only have some of the highest concentrations of added hormones, antibiotics and additives, but they also have the most competitive organic prices, because store brands carry them. Powers is a strong testament to the benefits of an organic lifestyle and through "Organic for Health" readers can now use her methods to improve their own wellbeing.

About the Author
Sandra Powers resides in Englewood, Fla. with her husband. She is a former teacher and enjoys spending her time chasing after her grandsons. She is a breast cancer and liver disease survivor who credits her rejuvenated health and energy to her organic lifestyle.

"Organic for Health" (ISBN 9780595473083, iUniverse, Inc., 2008) can be purchased at local and online bookstores. For information, visit www. organicforhealthsite. com. Publicity contact: www. readerviews. com. Review copies available upon request.

AthletiCo Offers Occupational Therapy Tips for Managing Arthritis

AthletiCo Offers Occupational Therapy Tips for Managing Arthritis

April is National Occupational Therapy Month

Oak Brook, IL (Vocus) April 8, 2010

During the month of April, AthletiCo Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy celebrates National Occupational Therapy Month. Whether it’s the hand, wrist, elbow, or shoulder, our occupational/hand therapists are the premier specialists in treating upper extremity diagnoses.

Occupational/hand therapists treat various upper extremity diagnoses, and one common medical condition they treat is arthritis. Known as inflammation of the joint, arthritis may affect multiple joints and often causes pain and stiffness that can affect activities of daily living. AthletiCo’s occupational therapists have been trained on joint protection and work modification techniques to assist in the treatment of arthritis. For those diagnosed with arthritis, protecting joints is important.

Here are some simple tips to protect joints:
Keep Moving: Strengthening muscles around the joint helps to protect them. Having an exercise program can also help to reduce pain, improve range of motion, and reduce fatigue.  Use Larger Joints: Use larger joints to carry/lift heavy items to avoid excessive stress on smaller joints. For example, place your purse on your shoulder rather than holding it with your hand, or use your palm rather than your fingers to lift items.  Listen to your Body: Pain after activity could indicate you have overstressed your body. Plan ahead by making a list and leave yourself plenty of time to complete the tasks. Listen to your body, and find a balance between rest and activity.  Avoid Static Postures: Staying in one place for long periods of time may cause stress on your body and increase stiffness. If you spend long periods of time sitting at the computer, get up and stretch, or change postures every hour.  Use Good Posture: Using poor posture especially in seated postures may increase stress on your joints. Try to maintain an upright posture.  Use Assistive Devices: Many devices have been designed to make tasks easier (jar openers, key extenders, button aids). Use these items as necessary.

AthletiCo’s occupational/hand therapists belong to the American Society of Hand Therapists, have on average over 12 years experience, and hold the highest level of training in the profession for treating the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. If you would like more information about how you can manage your arthritis or other home/workplace modifications, schedule a complimentary injury screening at the nearest AthletiCo center or call 1-877-ATHLETICO.

Lee Woodruff is a co-author of the best-selling book, "In an Instant," an account of her family's journey to recovery after her husband, ABC news anchor Bob Woodruff, suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of a roadside bomb while covering the war in Iraq. The Woodruffs are parents to four children, including Nora who has severe hearing loss and listens and talks. Woodruff recently released her second book, "Perfectly Imperfect - A Life in Progress," a sensitive and often humorous account of navigating life's rougher pavement, imperfections, trials and triumphs. Woodruff has penned numerous personal articles about her family and parenting that have run in publications such as Health, Redbook, Country Living, Parade and Family Fun.

"Mrs. Woodruff's experiences as a mother of a child with hearing loss enable her to relate with all our members whether they are parents, adults who are deaf or hard of hearing, or professionals supporting those with hearing loss and their families," said AG Bell President John R. "Jay" Wyant, himself born profoundly deaf. "Her experiences overcoming the challenges related to her husband's critical injury add impact to her message. Lee Woodruff has a remarkable gift to take the challenges of her life and share her experiences with others in a thoughtful and humorous way to remind us that we are each unique and persevere no matter what the circumstance."

Woodruff will speak at the AG Bell 2010 biennial convention's opening general session on Saturday, June 26 and will follow with a book signing session in the convention's exhibition hall. For more information about the AG Bell 2010 biennial convention, visit http://www. agbell. org.

The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing helps families, health care providers, educators and professionals understand childhood hearing loss and the importance of early diagnosis and intervention. With chapters located in the United States and a network of international affiliates, AG Bell supports its mission: Advocating Independence through Listening and Talking!

Online Pharmacy Carries 3000+ Generic Drugs And Saves Americans Big Dollars

Online Pharmacy Carries 3000+ Generic Drugs And Saves Americans Big Dollars.

MyStoreForMeds. com meets FDA guidelines for online prescription medicine store with new association with Lakeland, Florida pharmacy: More than 3000 generic drugs save big dollars for Americans without prescription drug insurance or to fill in Medicare gap

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) June 30, 2006

Americans now pay more for prescription drugs than any other people in the world. Additionally, prescription drug expenditures make up the fastest-growing segment of the increasingly expensive U. S. health care system. While the popularity of online pharmacies has continued to grow -- the requirements of the FDA has made it increasing difficult for online pharmacies to continue to offer discounted medicines to the general public. With more then 45 million Americans without prescription medicine insurance coverage, www. MyStoreForMeds. com online service is a lifesaver.

The state of the Medi-Care program and the loop holes has only increased the number of people having to pay cash for medicine -- 45 million Americans have no prescription medicine insurance at all," said Arturo Villar, President of www. MyStoreForMeds. com. "We knew we had to find a solution that satisfied the requirements of the FDA, while also being able to meet the public demands for less expensive medicine. Our association with Discount Mail Meds has given us the opportunity to provide the continued conveniences and savings of online discount medicine." Discount Mail Meds is located in Lakeland, Fl.

Americans pay more for prescription drugs than any other people in the world. Additionally, prescription drug expenditures make up the fastest-growing segment of the increasingly expensive U. S. health care system. While the popularity of online pharmacies has continued to grow - the requirements of the FDA has made it increasing difficult for online pharmacies to continue to offer discounted medicines to the general public. With more then 45 million Americans without prescription medicine insurance coverage, www. MyStoreForMeds. com online service is a lifesaver.

According to industry experts, in coming months, millions of older Americans and people with disabilities will face a lapse in coverage known as the "doughnut hole" when their annual drug spending hits $2,250. At that point, Medicare drug plans stop paying for medications and require members to absorb another $3,600 in out-of-pocket costs before coverage resumes. And even while the plans aren't paying for their drugs, participants must continue to pay their monthly premiums. That is in addition to the 45 million Americans without any prescription medicine insurance coverage.

Likewise, a recent report issued by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services prescription drug costs are expected to increase by 12.6% a year for the next 10 years. By 2010, 16% of what Americans spend each year on personal health care will be spent on prescription drugs, the department said. In 1999, it was 9.4%.As a result, even those with prescription drug coverage are being told by their insurance companies that they will have to pick up more of the tab for prescriptions

Villar continued, "We feel like were able to put together this situation for www. mystoreformeds. com with great timing. We are happy to be able to be a part of a solution for many Americans who need affordable prescriptions medicines.”

MyStoreForMeds. com is most known for their huge savings in over 3000 and more generic medicines with the benefits of lower cost, privacy; convenience; and speed of delivery (www. MyStoreForMeds. com has your prescription to your door in 1 business day) Prescriptions can be called or faxed in to 888-462-4579.

Schools Still on Alert for H1N1 Outbreaks

Schools Still on Alert for H1N1 Outbreaks

University Canada West keeps students informed to combat flu

Victoria, BC (Vocus) October 17, 2009

While most Canadians have brushed aside worries about H1N1, officials say that the new flu strain is still a very real health concern. That’s why University Canada West is keeping its students up-to-date with current information about the disease and preventative flu tips.

“Informational posters have been placed throughout the campuses and students are being encouraged to stay home if they come down with symptoms,” says University Canada West representative, Sandra Lee. “We’re also asking students to inform their professors and/or student services representative if they are absent for potential flu reasons so we can keep tabs on any outbreak.”

Posters around campus in Victoria and Vancouver explain the difference between flu and cold symptoms and also include instructions on proper hand washing techniques. The more information students have, the more likely they’ll be to stay home and prevent the spread of the flu on campus.

“We want to make sure students are staying home if they come down with the flu,” says Lee. “Students can have classmates take notes and can correspond with their professors through email to receive any missed assignments.”

University Canada West’s H1N1 plan is in line with recommendations by the BC Centre for Disease Control, who say the best way to keep the flu at bay is with good old fashioned soap and water. UCAN students also have access to hand sanitizer while at school.

CellTrak’s Point of Care Technology Allows Bristol Hospice to Focus on Patient Care, Not Paperwork

CellTrak’s Point of Care Technology Allows Bristol Hospice to Focus on Patient Care, Not Paperwork

CellTrak Technologies and Bristol Hospice’s roll out of the real time point of care solution has provided benefits to everyone who touches the CellTrak service. From the field staff to the schedulers and administrators they all have gained a benefit by knowing that cellular automation at the point of care helps deliver better patient outcomes.

Schaumburg, IL (PRWEB) December 20, 2010

CellTrak Technologies and Bristol Hospice’s roll out of the real time point of care solution has provided benefits to everyone who touches the CellTrak service. From the field staff to the schedulers and administrators they all have gained a benefit by knowing that cellular automation at the point of care helps deliver better patient outcomes.

Everyone at Bristol Hospice cannot believe they worked with paper and manual processes for as long as they did. CellTrak and the service its providing has changed the way Bristol Hospice’s staff keep in contact with their daily patient visits provided by the field staff. Scheduling has never been easier than it is now with automation from Suncoast Solutions out to CellTrak solution running on BlackBerry devices in the field. Phone calls and faxes for changes are a thing of the past since Bristol Hospice began using CellTrak this past fall.

Bristol Hospice had some concerns about installing and getting buy-in from staff when they rolled out this new wireless technology. But in the end the operations team at CellTrak paved the way for another smooth implementation and all concerns were eliminated. Bristol Hospice saw that the documentation provided by CellTrak for the staff members as well as the leadership gave them all a level of confidence when they automated the documentation and scheduling system. In the end, it’s that knowledge capital provided by CellTrak to all of its clients that allows their clients to move from contract to a live state within a 60 day period, a goal CellTrak strives for with each and every new client.

Christie Franklin President and CEO of Bristol stated: “Everything about the CellTrak service has been positive since the moment we decided to move forward throughout the entire rollout of our first branch office. Our field staff as well as our leadership team all agree and are very glad that they are using this technology and are very positive about the results.”

Jeanette Dove, VP of Clinical Quality Management noted that “Compliance is a key with the new CMS rules out next year. The CellTrak solution supports our visit scheduling and documentation compliance.”

CellTrak, Suncoast Solutions and BlackBerry have been working together since 2008 to enable integrated and easy to use solutions that automate work flow, improve compliance, reduce costs and improve outcomes at the point of care.

Teresa R. Craig, CEO of Suncoast Solutions highlighted that “We are pleased Bristol Hospice has joined our clients who have implemented CellTrak. Along with the cost savings, efficiencies and improved compliance of the electronic health record, they have also gained the ability to better meet the needs of patients and families facing end of life issues. The power of on-time documentation gives each hospice the power to care and improve quality at the end of life. We are pleased to be able to provide these tools to enhance patient care.”

Michael K. Wons, President and CEO of CellTrak mentioned “CellTrak strives to take the worry out of our implementations for clients, by using our best practices for deploying mobile mHealth technology. CellTrak continues to evolve and advance our technology platform to continue to gain better patient outcomes for our clients and provide real time info to all care team members as we have at Bristol today.”

Responding to Global Interests, Meeting Local Needs

Responding to Global Interests, Meeting Local Needs

The University of London External System has been at the cutting edge of facilitating debate around global and local issues through relevant study programmes – long before these issues became topical in the media – said HRH The Princess Royal, Chancellor of the University of London.

(Vocus) June 19, 2008

The University of London External System has been at the cutting edge of facilitating debate around global and local issues through relevant study programmes – long before these issues became topical in the media – said HRH The Princess Royal, Chancellor of the University of London.

Speaking at the 150th Anniversary celebrations yesterday (12 June 2008) where HRH The Princess Royal unveiled a sundial to mark the occasion, she spoke of the relevance of study programmes provided by the University of London External System: “I’m delighted that Agricultural Economics is widely studied, with decision makers debating how best to address the world’s food shortage. That’s not something that happened last month when it became an issue in the media – this has been going on for some considerable time. That is a real encouragement, that there are people out there who’ve been having this debate.”

The Princess Royal added: “Courses in Sustainable Development, developed by the External System, help meet the challenges that have been articulated in the Millennium Development Goals at the Rio Summit on Environment and Development; and the Declaration of the Johannesburg Summit on Sustainable Development. Responding to global interests, but very much based on the local needs and the local inputs of the individuals concerned.

The Princess Royal also cited the example of International Primary Health Care, which brings together health professionals from all over the world who are then able to share their experiences through interaction online. The Princess Royal stated: “It’s also encouraging to know that Primary Health Care has such a high profile. Whatever we say about research into medicines and cures, primary and public health care are still the things that are going to make the biggest difference, and a worldwide understanding of how best to apply those standards is perhaps one of the most important areas of debate.”

Study programmes offered through the External System equip the student with much-needed skills. More importantly, graduates of these programmes, who have day-to-day experience of these issues, are able to contribute towards the debate at an appropriate level. “In this way, you really get the reality of the situation coming through”, the Princess Royal added.

The sundial was commissioned to mark the 150th Anniversary of the University of London External System. It was unveiled in Torrington Square, London WC1 on the University campus.  The University of London was established in 1836 and is one of the oldest, largest and most diverse universities in the United Kingdom.  The University’s founding principle is to provide education for all, irrespective of race, creed or political belief.  In 1858, the University of London was granted its fourth Charter, which paved the way for the establishment of the University of London External System.  The University of London External System is a unique global network of 41,000 students in 180 countries, on more than 100 study programmes ranging from social sciences to law to health.  The External System has been instrumental in the formation of British higher education – all English and Welsh universities founded between 1849-1949 offered University of London degrees before obtaining charters to award their own.  Between 1946-1970, the External System played a significant role in establishing many Commonwealth universities under a unique scheme of ‘special relations’.  Through the External System higher education was made available to a much wider range of social classes; it pre-empted 20th Century developments in open, flexible and distance learning by more than 100 years.  Famous former students and alumni of the External System include five Nobel Prize Winners: Sir Frederick Gowland Hopkins, Ronald Coase, Wole Soyinka, Derek Walcott and Nelson Mandela.  The top 20 countries the External System operates in: 1.
