Adoption of Laparoscopy Continues in Europe

Adoption of Laparoscopy Continues in Europe

European market for endoscopy devices represents a lucrative market, according to a new report by Millennium Research Group.

Waltham, MA (PRWEB) July 5, 2006

Millennium Research Group (MRG), the global authority on medical technology market intelligence, finds that the European market for endoscopy devices, which includes laparoscopy, gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy, arthroscopy, visualization, ear, nose, and throat (ENT) endoscopy, and bronchoscopy represents a lucrative market for medical device suppliers. According to the new report entitled European Markets for Endoscopy Devices 2006, which includes analysis on France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom, the market generated over $1.6 billion in 2005. While market dynamics in each country vary considerably due to government legislation, reimbursement changes, device introductions, and competitor actions, demand for less invasive procedures continues to rise throughout Europe.

Clinical results have substantially proven the benefits of minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques. Despite the fact that all four countries are facing mounting health care deficits, laparoscopic procedures, which have higher equipment costs, continue to be adopted due to the reduction in patient recovery and hospitalization times they offer. In many market segments, revenues are also being driven by demand for disposable rather than reusable devices. Disposables garner higher per-procedure revenues, eliminate the risk of cross-contamination, and offer more convenience. Overall, the laparoscopic device market will continue to grow through 2010, driven in particular by strong gains in the ultrasonic, bipolar, and hand-assisted device markets.

MRG’s European Markets for Endoscopy Devices 2006 report is part of the Global Markets Endoscopy series, which also includes analysis on the US and Japan. The series covers various key industry competitors, such as Ethicon Endo-Surgery (JNJ), Olympus (OCPNY), Tyco Healthcare, Karl Storz, Smith & Nephew (SNN), Boston Scientific (BSX), Cook Endoscopy, Fujinon, CONMED Corporation, and Stryker Endoscopy (SYK).

About Laparoscopy

Laparoscopic procedures are performed within the abdomen or pelvic cavity and offer several positive clinical benefits to patients and the health care system. During a procedure, a laparoscope is inserted through an abdominal incision for diagnosis, biopsy, or surgery. Laparoscopy procedures include cholecystectomy, bowel resection, hysterectomy, hernia repair, appendectomy, nephrectomy, female sterilization, and fundoplication, among others.

Leading Academic Makes A Personal £1 Million Commitment to Back Research

The University of Warwick has announced that Professor Lord Bhattacharyya has just pledged to make one of the largest ever personal donations to a UK University by a serving member of academic staff. He hopes his personal financial commitment underlines how serious he is when he calls on businesses and government to enhance the financial support they provide to UK research. Professor Lord Bhattacharyya has committed to a five year programme of personal donations that will create a fund worth around a million pounds.

(PRWeb UK) February 25, 2010

The University of Warwick has announced that Professor Lord Bhattacharyya has just pledged to make one of the largest ever personal donations to a UK University by a serving member of academic staff. He hopes his personal financial commitment underlines how serious he is when he calls on businesses and government to enhance the financial support they provide to UK research.

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya has committed to a five year programme of personal donations that will create a fund worth around a million pounds. He has asked that it be used to “support the stimulation and facilitation of research of the highest quality” and will include the creation of an annual reward for the Warwick researcher who has achieved most in a given year.

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya is the Director and founder of WMG at the University of Warwick. He has published extensively in the field of manufacturing and is advisor to many companies, governments and organisations around the world. He has been honoured many times. He was awarded a knighthood in 2003 for services to higher education and industry and was elevated to the Lords in 2004.

The University of Warwick has announced its intention to launch a £50 million fundraising campaign in support of its strategy to rise up the global university rankings. Professor Nigel Thrift, the University’s Vice-Chancellor thanked Professor Lord Bhattacharyya for his generous gift, saying

“This is an extremely generous financial commitment by Professor Lord Bhattacharyya. It will provide significant support to some of Warwick’s most innovative research endeavours”.

When asked why he had made this significant personal financial commitment he said:

“I recently spoke in the Lords to urge policy makers to make it easier for universities and companies to work together to create wealth through technology. It is vital that we increase the research budget for industrial and academic collaboration in the Technology Strategy Board. I feel now that I must match that passionately held belief with my own personal financial commitment.

The new fund will inspire and support the very best research at the University of Warwick. However I also hope my personal financial contribution underlines how serious I am when I call on businesses and government to enhance the support they provide to UK researchers.”

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya has a long personal history of partnership working bringing together policy makers, industry and academic research and teaching. In 1980 he established WMG (formerly Warwick Manufacturing Group), an academic multi-disciplinary unit of the University of Warwick, with a mission to reinvigorate UK manufacturing through the application of cutting edge University research and effective knowledge transfer. WMG now employs over 300 full-time staff with a further 150 associates who fill four buildings at the University of Warwick.

The group began with a single office, the Professor and his secretary and has since grown into a global force. It employs over 300 full-time staff with a further 150 associates who fill four buildings at the University of Warwick (with plans for a fifth building underway). It also runs teaching and research centres in Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand and provide expert advice to many overseas governments and companies.

WMG has now grown beyond its manufacturing core into new sectors: health, banking, the built environment and digital technology to name a few. Most recently WMG has given a key role in low carbon Automotive research as part of the Midlands’ designation as a new Low Carbon Economic Area (LCEA) million of government funding for research into and development of low carbon vehicles.

Phoenix, AZ Based Online Company Introduces an Incredible Line of Earth-Friendly, Soot-Free, Lead-Free, 100% Soy Candles, Lotions and Bath Gels

Our Versions Of-Manufactures an earth-friendly line of soot-free, lead-free, 100% soy candles, lotions and bath gels. Great for asthma sufferers and helps support U. S. Soybean Farmers.

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) February 2, 2005

Phoenix, AZ based online company www. ourversionsof. com has introduced an incredible line of earth-friendly, soot-free, lead-free,100% soy candles, lotions and bath gels. As a life-long lover of traditional paraffin-based candles, CEO Darwin Moore, suddenly got the urge to make a better candle. After being concerned about the unhealthy soot and petroleum that was being emitted from traditional paraffin-based candles and hearing numerous claims from asthma sufferers that loved burning candles but couldn't because of the harmful chemicals from these types of candles, Moore took charge.

After much research on the web and consumers, one word continued to come up, "soy". The next questions were, how much better is this for consumers, the environment and how to market it, becuase the benefits of soy were astounding! First of all, soy burns at 98.9% soot-free. Conventional paraffin-based candles emitted large amounts of soot (because of the petroleum that these types of candles contain), which not only can be seen in the containers in which they burned, but also on walls, carpets and furniture, and worst of all, people were breathing this stuff in their lungs!

Secondly, soy is a plentiful, reusable, all-natural commodity, which not only is much safer for the environment but contains nutrients that allow the company to use this in other products such as, lotions, shower gels and body sprays, which www. ourversionsof. com will introduce some time in the second quarter of this year. Finally, soy candles have been shown to burn up to 50% longer than paraffin-based candles and provides a much better scent throw (both cold and hot). "Besides of all the benefits explained previously, manufacturing and distributing soy-based products help support the U. S. economy", says Moore. "As a matter of fact, I had a soybean farmer from Minnesota, praise us for producing and marketing our soy-based products, obviously, that made us feel great!", according to Moore.

As far as positioning ourselves in the marketplace, www. ourversionsof. com has modeled their initial line of products after the industry giants (Bath & Body Works, Yankee Candle, The Body Shop, etc.). By offering familiar scents such as Warm Vanilla Sugar, White Tea & Ginger and Plumeria, the company feels that along with promoting the substantial benefits of soy, this will help gain attention. Earthy classic scents such as Patchouli, Sandlewood and Eucalyptus will only help add popularity to the line (which will also be added in the near future).

Currently, www. ourversionsof. com is introducing their product line at local Phoenix-area flea markets, on the web at www. ourversionsof. com and through wholesale accounts nationwide. "Our ultimate plan is to have our products in stores such as Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Wild Oats and the like but we must crawl before we walk", says Moore. "We're very proud of our initial line of products and it seems as though since our launch in November 2004, our customers are as well". "We constantly get raves about the smell, burn-time and value". "During our very first week on the web, we received a letter from a woman in New Hampshire, who was an asthma sufferer, on how great it is to be able to burn and enjoy the smell of candles again, that made us very excited to say the least.", says Moore.

The candles at www. ourversionsof. com are competitvely priced at $12.00, for a 16oz. candle with a burn-time of 70 hours and $10.00 for their soy-based lotions and bath gels. Later in the year, www. ourversionsof. com will introduce a 120 hour candle and a soy-based body spray, along with continually introducing new scents. The company also offers a 30 day guarantee along with free shipping from their website. They also promote online candle parties, in which individual representatives can earn money for promoting the product line. This is an off-shoot from traditional candle parties that are given at homes. "Given that people are very busy these days, this allows a more efficient way of earning extra money", says Moore. Participation costs only $16.00 and www. ourversionsof. com pays in cash.

I-Testosterone. com Explains the Function and Benefits of Testosterone Creams

I-Testosterone. com Explains the Function and Benefits of Testosterone Creams

Mount Kisco, NY (PRWEB) September 25, 2005

According to i-Testosterone. com, testosterone cream is one of many topical testosterone products to help increase testosterone levels. The safe, yet extremely potent, testosterone gel is absorbed through the skin directly into the blood stream using "Time Released Liposome Transdermal Delivery System" technology to boost testosterone levels for hours longer than many prescription drugs. It does not contain caffeine, and many testosterone creams are available without a prescription.

The inactive leutenizing botanicals in the testosterone cream stimulate and increase natural testosterone production and release. Included estrogen blockers help inhibit and suppress aromatizing (conversion) of testosterone into estrogen. People apply 1/2 to 1 tsp. of the gel to skin areas such as inner arms or thighs or behind the knees first thing in the morning and prior to bed. For best results, apply to skin with the least amount of hair. For extra benefit apply 1/2 tsp. to 1 tsp. 10 minutes to one hour before exercise or sexual activity, or as directed by your qualified health care physician. Women using a testosterone cream should cut the dosage in half.

As i-Testosterone. com explains, there are many brands of testosterone cream. Each man's testosterone need may be different, so itÂ’s important to look at different creams available. This relates to his particular degree of andropause -- the decrease in production of this hormone and its effects on his body and lifestyle. When you begin using a testosterone cream, it is formulated to your body based on reliable lab tests. The cream can be adjusted by your doctor until the correct blood levels are met.

Santa Claus Takes Issue With the Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas Convening Today and the Crass, Commercial, Secular Spectacle that Christmas has Become

Santa’s Bless the Children Tour meets the Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas Convention in Branson. The advice Santa Claus (his legal name) gives Santa’s Helpers is to return to the tradition of celebrating the birth of Christ and the spirit of giving and love, to give rather than sell, and to portray a wholesome and physically fit image for children.

Branson, MO (PRWEB) July 7, 2006 -—

Santa Claus takes issue with the Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas convening today in Branson, MO, and the crass, commercial, secular spectacle that Christmas has become.

Santa Claus is hot! Santa’s Bless the Children Tour is in Branson, Missouri, this morning — the same time the Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas opens its convention here.

The genuine Santa Claus, his legal name, is hot, not only because of the weather in Branson, but because he takes issue with the crass, commercial, secular spectacle Christmas has become.

Santa Claus is a Christian priest and monk, as St. Nicholas was, and believes Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ. St. Nicholas embodied the spirit of loving and giving. He didn’t sell anything. After all, love is the greatest gift of all; and it’s free.

The name Santa Claus is derived from the Dutch expression for St. Nicholas, who was depicted as a relatively thin man. The more recent fat, jolly look often is associated with images of overindulgence and greed, rather than with happiness.

Santa Claus is losing weight on his tour throughout the United States, in order to set a good example for children and to help combat the epidemic of childhood obesity sweeping the United States. The U. S. National Institutes of Health estimates the childhood obesity epidemic may cause the new generation of children not to outlive its parents, primarily due to the propensity for heart disease and type 2 diabetes related to obesity.

The advice Santa Claus gives Santa’s Helpers, including those attending today’s convention in Branson, is to return to the tradition of celebrating the birth of Christ and the spirit of giving and love, to give rather than sell, and to portray a wholesome and physically fit image for children.

Inventory Management Software Helps Small Businesses Succeed

Inventory Management Software Helps Small Businesses Succeed

According to the U. S. Small Business Administration, small companies need good inventory management to survive. Inventory system software, such as Fishbowl Inventory, is designed to meet this need, and is most effective when combined with QuickBooks.

Provo, UT (PRWEB) April 7, 2010

Strong inventory management (http://www. inventorysystemsoftware. com/Inventory-Management-Software. html) is essential to small businesses’ survival, according to a report by the U. S. Small Business Administration. Many companies are turning to inventory system software to solve the complex problem of maintaining healthy inventory levels.

According to the SBA’s document entitled “Inventory Management,” tight inventory control is a key factor in small businesses’ success or failure. “Inventory must be well managed in order to maximize profits. In fact, many small businesses cannot absorb the types of losses arising from poor inventory management.”

To remain competitive, many small-business owners think they only need to use QuickBooks, which is the most popular accounting software. However, QuickBooks lacks the necessary inventory management tools companies need as they grow. Luckily, inventory system software has been developed to fill in QuickBooks’ gaps.

Inventory management software (http://www. inventorysystemsoftware. com/Inventory-Management-Software. html) can help small businesses improve their profitability and stay in business by taking the guesswork out of inventory planning. Good inventory software keeps business owners informed on all aspects of their inventory, including quantities, sell-by dates and when to reorder more.

Wholesalers, distributors, retailers and manufacturers walk a fine line between being overstocked and out of stock on products and parts. By combining QuickBooks and inventory management software, they can know how much inventory they need, where it is and how much it costs to maintain it. Having an integrated QuickBooks inventory management (http://www. inventorysystemsoftware. com/QuickBooks-Inventory-Management. html) system can save time and money by automatically keeping inventory levels balanced.

Fishbowl Inventory (http://www. inventorysystemsoftware. com/Fishbowl. html) is the No. 1-requested QuickBooks add-on. It fully integrates with QuickBooks’ software, so companies can keep using the accounting software and add new services to it. Fishbowl’s inventory system software is constantly being updated to add new functionality, such as managing products in multiple warehouses, scanning barcodes to immediately update the inventory database, and using Point of Sale software.

U. S. businesses are lagging behind their counterparts in Europe, Australia and South Africa in taking seriously their corporate social responsibility or CSR, according to a new study released today by Echo Research, the global specialists in reputation audit and analysis. While, major U. S. multinationals still lead in philanthropy, they have a “blind spot” that misses the growing importance of CSR to socially responsible investing around the world, the study found.

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 25, 2004

U. S. businesses are lagging behind their counterparts in Europe, Australia and South Africa in taking seriously their corporate social responsibility or CSR, according to a new study released today by Echo Research, the global specialists in reputation audit and analysis. While, major U. S. multinationals still lead in philanthropy, they have a “blind spot” that misses the growing importance of CSR to socially responsible investing around the world, the study found.

Although financial analysts in several countries are beginning to factor in corporate social responsibility in the evaluation of a company’s investment potential, most U. S. financial organizations, including the majors responsible for tens of billions of dollars, do not consider socially responsible investing in their analysis of corporate performance and value, according the report which is entitled CSR and the Financial Community – Friends or Foes?

“Our report shows that many U. S. enterprises are out of step with the global financial community that rates corporate social responsibility much higher on its agenda,” said Marianne Eisenmann, Managing Director of Echo Research, North America. “The focus on good corporate governance seems to be at the expense of socially responsible investing,” she continued, “which is in sharp contrast with the historical view of U. S. companies as role models of best corporate practice and behavior.”

Corporate social responsibility is generally considered to be the measurable contributions of a company to its communities, on local, national and international levels, over and above its economic impact on them. The Echo Research study revealed that 88 % of U. S. financial institutions do not take socially responsible investing into account in their investment decisions. Only a third consider good CSR can result in better risk management, contrasted with 68% in Europe. “This is a significant corporate blind spot,” Eisenmann said, “which could put some very large U. S. long-term investments at risk.”

While over half of the U. S. companies (56%) want a better measure of corporate social responsibility, the vast majority (89%) expect shareholder pressure to drive socially responsible investing in the future, with or without better measures (against 57% in Europe). With the exception of investors in South Africa, almost two-thirds of respondents oppose regulation for CSR.

The research revealed that Europeans believe that the U. S. has fallen behind on corporate social responsibility, with few companies coming forward to meet ethical index criteria.

The report contains a CSR Prerception Index which lists “Saints and Sinners,” tracking the rise and fall of their corporate reputations over time. In addition, the information used by the financial community to assess corporate social responsibility is identified, as are the elements of an excellent or indifferent CSR report.

The study is the third qualitative study on the perception of corporate social responsibility conducted by Echo Research. The communications research firm interviewed 240 business and financial opinion leaders from the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, and South Africa. In addition, some 5,432 articles on CSR in the business press of the same countries were assessed for their influence.

Echo Research Group measures the reputation of its clientsÂ’ organizations among their different stakeholder groups. Among its clients are one quarter of the Fortune 100 representing key industry sectors, including consumer, financial services, health, IT, telecommunications, media professional services, public sector and NGOs. Echo Research has offices in New York, London, Brussels, Paris and Stockholm.

1. A breakfast of hearts. There’s nothing like starting the day knowing that you are loved by somebody. Turn plain, ordinary pancakes into chocolate chip hearts -- a sweet for your sweetie. Take a heart-shaped cookie cutter, place it on the griddle, pour in the pancake batter and top with chocolate chips. It is an easy and fun way to say, “I love you!” No time for breakfast? Use the cookie cutter to make a heart-shaped sandwich and cookies to go!

2. A book of poems. If you can’t find the words to say how much you love your lover, buy a book of poems. You can give the entire book as a gift, or make copies of the poems that touch you the most and secretly place them all over -- one on the bed, on the shower door, on the seat of the car, tucked inside his/her briefcase -- places your true love will be sure to find them. You might even want to leave a voicemail at work reciting one of the poems to provide your mate a midday pick-me-up and reassurance of your love.

3. Have some fun. Think of an activity you and your significant other have never done or haven’t done in a long time -- ice skating, bowling, or going to an amusement park. This gives you a chance to be kids again -- being carefree and silly while falling in love all over again. Add an element of surprise by blindfolding your partner and make him/her guess where you are taking them -- it will definitely add a little suspense and excitement to your night.

4. Stay in. Nothing comes close to the feeling of spending quality time with the one you love. Make a nice dinner with a special dessert for two, light candles, sprinkle rose petals on the table, and cuddle while watching a romantic movie. This may seem a bit traditional but a chance to talk, touch, and get to know your sweetheart all over again is absolutely priceless.

Members are able to access many money-saving benefits to make your Valentine’s Day memorable and affordable such as discounts on the purchase of CDs/DVDs, movie tickets, books, gift cards for popular restaurant chains, plus so much more, concludes AP9 Passport to Fun.

Could PPI Avert a Mental Health Disaster?

Could PPI Avert a Mental Health Disaster?

A recent report revealing that house repossession is rated as the event most likely to cause mental health problems should come as no surprise, comments Payment Protection Insurance lobbyist Sara-Ann Burgess from Burgesses.

Braintree, Essex (PRWEB) October 16, 2008

A recent report revealing that house repossession is rated as the event most likely to cause mental health problems should come as no surprise, comments Payment Protection Insurance (http://www. burgesses. com) lobbyist Sara-Ann Burgess from Burgesses.

The issue was raised in May by independent PPI provider British Insurance (http://www. britishinsurance. com) who warned lenders that their continuous seizure of properties from thousands of homeowners was contributing to escalating stress levels.

Mental health charity Rethink says that rising repossessions could damage the mental health of almost half the country following a survey that found 46% of 2000 respondents cited repossession as their main concern.

Rethink called for urgent action to prevent a mental health disaster as it believes a build-up of stress and worry of arrears can be enough to harm a person's mental well-being.

A view shared by Sara-Ann who says: "Calls have frequently been made for more to be done to bail out consumers financially and reduce the number of potential stress-related illnesses, but judging from the latest mortgage arrears and repossession figures this appears to be falling on deaf ears."

Statistics from the Council of Mortgage Lenders show that in the first half of this year there were 155,600 homeowners with mortgage arrears of three months or more and it's predicted this figure will rise to 170,000 by the end of 2008.

The Ministry of Justice reports that the number of court orders for repossessions rose to 28,568 for the three months to the end of June - the highest for 16 years - and the CML suggests this will increase to 45,000 by the year end.

Sara-Ann continues: "PPI providers with a conscience, such as British Insurance, have lobbied long and hard for lenders to recognise the emotional implications of the credit crunch. Repossessions are more than a financial sacrifice - people are losing their homes and livelihoods, relationships are suffering and families are being uprooted and taken away from their daily routines."

When British Insurance highlighted this issue a few months ago, the firm suggested that the 530,000 people* who yearly seek medical advice for work-related stress was the tip of the iceberg. It called for consumers to take out some form of payment protection cover to ensure they can meet their monthly financial commitments should accident, sickness or unemployment occur and alleviate the pressure.

Sara-Ann concludes: "A key contributor to payment failure and home repossession is redundancy and sickness, so to protect themselves consumers either have to cover their payments privately through insurance or risk no financial safety net at all."

She continued, "Those suffering from stress as a result of this credit crunch will undoubtedly increase and we all have a part to play in helping consumers cope during these difficult financial times. Providers must follow the lead of British Insurance and cover this condition and honour claims from people who develop mental health problems after taking out a policy. It could help avert a mental health disaster."

Atlanta Office Cleaners Use Environmentally Friendly Cleaning Supplies for the Health of Your Office

Atlanta Office Cleaners Use Environmentally Friendly Cleaning Supplies for the Health of Your Office

Atlanta office cleaning with Clean-Guard, Inc, is cleaning with respect to the environment and to worker health and wellness. Clean-Guard, Inc. uses environmentally friendly PortionPac cleaning supplies to eliminate waste, lessen environmental damage, and greatly reduce exposure to toxic chemicals

Atlanta (PRWEB) January 13, 2009

Plastic bottles and chemicals litter the shelves of a janitor's closet. Once the chemical is gone, a plastic bottle goes into the trash. If there is excess chemical cleaner left, it goes into the trash or down the drain. They find themselves in landfills and rivers, polluting everything they come in contact with.

PortionPac offers a solution to this problem, and in Atlanta office cleaning (http://www. atlantaofficecleaners. com/) is getting with the program. So, what exactly is PortionPac, and how is it environmentally friendly and healthy for the office?

1. Packaging - Each system uses minimal packaging materials. Highly concentrated formulas are packed into sleeves and ready to be added to the reusable bottle. Think about how many bottles of window cleaner, bathroom cleaner and other plastic bottles each office throws away. This way, only a small bit of garbage goes out into the environment.

2. Concentrated formulas - By making the cleaning solution at a concentration of 10 times the normal cleaner, it makes a more efficient cleaner by needing to use less. The formula is pre-measured so that only what is needed is made so there are not a lot of chemicals lying around to spill or contaminate the air. The concentrated formula is also healthy for a businesses bottom line because fewer products and less of them are needed to get the job done.

3. Easy to use system - For each PortionPac system, a color is assigned to the product and specific instructions are listed for easy mixing and use. The red-yellow-green PortionPac product system encompasses everything needed to clean an office. Red is a germicidal detergent for bathroom fixtures, floors and walls. Yellow is a floor cleaner. Green is a heavy-duty multi-purpose cleaner.

PortionPac is the brainchild of chemist, Syd Weisberg. He co-founded the company in 1964 with a philosophy of being environmentally friendly while being profitable. PortionPac believes in "sustainability because we know caring about people and protecting the planet leads to prosperous communities and strong economics." Weisberg was ahead of his time in this area, having recognized the amount of excess and waste put into the environment back in the 50s. That was long before "green" became a buzzword, recycling was hip and hybrid cars were mere science fiction.

Being environmentally conscious and using sustainable products are practices gaining popularity in the business world. In Atlanta, office cleaning (http://www. atlantaofficecleaners. com/) service, Clean-Guard, Inc. believes that everyone must do their part to keep the planet clean and cleaning supplies are huge contributors to landfills and water pollution. Customers like to do business with environmentally conscious businesses also. It makes them feel like they are doing their part for the environment as well.

If you are looking for a new janitorial service, Atlanta (http://www. atlantaofficecleaners. com/) based company, Clean-Guard, Inc. is implementing the PortionPac system. Create a healthy environment for employees and protect the planet at the same time by making sure PortionPac is being used in your office.

California Green Home Proves Green Doesn't Have to be Extreme

California Green Home Proves Green Doesn't Have to be Extreme

Green Home in Top 1% of GreenPoint Rated Homes -- without Sacrificing Style or Significantly Increasing Costs

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) September 25, 2008

Building a green home (http://www. ecoedgetech. com) does not have to mean spending a lot more or sacrificing beautiful design or desirable amenities.

EcoEdge Consulting, a San Jose-based green building consultant, recently completed a green scorecard for the northern California Energy Star home of Michel Langlois. The home received 175 points on Build It Green's GreenPoint Rated checklist for single family homes, putting it in the top 1 percent of nearly 650 homes rated. The house was also Energy Star-rated, receiving 5+ Stars on the Energy Star homes rating scale.

The newly built home, on Cherry Avenue in Willow Glen (a San Jose neighborhood), CA, will be open to the public on the Build It Green Home Tour for Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties on September 28, 2008. For more information on the Energy Star Homes Tour, go to: http://www. builditgreen. org/green-home-tours/southbay08 (http://www. builditgreen. org/green-home-tours/southbay08).

The home has significant energy and health benefits, including:
Energy:
5.4 kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system should produce nearly all of the electricity used by the home 40% more energy efficient than a standard California home (based on Title 24 energy calculations) Recycled content cotton and spray foam insulation to improve comfort and energy efficiency Heating and cooling system designed for superior energy efficiency (duct sealing to reduce air leakage; 18 SEER air conditioner and 95% efficient furnace)

Health and indoor air quality:
High indoor air quality with state-of-the-art whole-house air ventilation Health conscious no-VOC and low VOC interior paint Garage sealed to prevent fumes from polluting home's interior

According to builder Lorrie Broderick, the green home was not significantly more expensive than a standard California custom home. Only the addition of the 5.4 kW solar electric system added significant expense, but the solar system, along with other energy-saving features, such as an upgrade to spray foam insulation, will keep energy costs down and make the Energy Star home (http://www. ecoedgetech. com) healthier and more comfortable.

For more information about the home's green features, please visit: http://www. cherrygreen. info (http://www. cherrygreen. info).

"It's a great design and the idea that I could generate energy and feed the grid was appealing to me," said homeowner Michel Langlois. "I was surprised just how many efficiencies I could realize and still not be forced to make significant lifestyle changes."

"Build It Green has issued GreenPoint Rated certifcates for 649 homes and multifamily units and has more than 11,000 additional housing units in the pipeline," said Brian Gitt, Executive Director, Build It Green. "The Cherry Avenue house demonstrates that getting projects GreenPoint Rated not only adds market value but also helps sell homes quicker."

About the Home
The 3,570-square-foot Arts and Crafts home features an open floor plan with hardwood throughout, five bedrooms, three and a half baths, a family room with eighteen foot ceilings, spacious kitchen with multi-level island, media room, wine cellar and exercise room, and whole-house audio and intercom.

The Energy Star home is in walking distance to shopping, the Willow Glen Library and Willow Glen Elementary School.

Air Purifiers Can Provide Relief to Californians From Wildfire Smoke

Air Purifiers Can Provide Relief to Californians From Wildfire Smoke

The worst fires seen in recent history have affected Californians lives and breathing. These pollutants can vary in intensity from being a mild annoyance to an intolerable and dangerous condition for some individuals. Air Purifiers America will provide assistance.

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) November 8, 2007

The worst fires seen in recent history have affected Californians lives and breathing. The wildfires have destroyed homes and lives, severely affected everyday life, polluting the air with a caustic mix of ash and smoke. These pollutants can vary in intensity from being a mild annoyance to an intolerable and dangerous condition for some individuals.

"It's important people get relief quickly from the smoke and odor sooner than later. Their everyday lives can be severely affected; their sleep will be disrupted and their overall health is at risk" said Warb Lee, Manager, Air Purifiers America. "A highly effective air purifier tested and designed for smoke and odor removal, will allow them to breathe easier, sleep better and maintain their health."

Air purifier usage should not be limited to just the home, offices should also be protected. Having the right sized air purifier in place is a key factor to effectively removing smoke and odor. Some air purifiers remove up to 99% of particles, while others can be as low as 30%. Also, a major factor for consideration is the effectiveness at distances other than just being beside the air purifier. A quality air purifier should not just be effective at a few feet from the unit, but be able to clean the entire room. Visit http://www. air-purifiers-america. com/ed_APA_test_results. asp (http://www. air-purifiers-america. com/ed_APA_test_results. asp) to see the testing results of various manufactures and models of air purifiers' effectiveness in removing airborne particles for different sized rooms.

Consumers should avoid ozone-emitting home air purifiers since the California Air Resources Board recently passed regulations banning these from sale in the state. According to the Board, studies suggest that the ozone emitted by some air purifiers causes health problems and can worsen conditions in individuals with breathing problems.

Air Purifiers America is offering any Californian affected by the smoke a 20% discount on any of their smoke removal air purifiers. "We have a qualified team of customer representatives available to help anyone unsure of the type and size of air purifier needed to remove smoke and odor from the home or office" said Lee. To understand more on which Air Purifiers provide the best relief, the appropriate sized air purifier, and the effectiveness of the different air purifiers, visit http://www. air-purifiers-america. com/ed_product_comp-smoke. asp (http://www. air-purifiers-america. com/ed_product_comp-smoke. asp)

Human Resource Outsourcing Pioneer to Visit Jacksonville, Florida; Jay Whitehead to Give the Media’s Perspective on $59 Billion HRO Industry

Jay Whitehead, president and publisher of “HRO Today” and “HRO Europe” magazines, will present the keynote address at “Human Resource Outsourcing: The Technological Advantage,” Thursday, April 20, 2006 at the Jacksonville Marriott Hotel, from 7:30 to 9:30 a. m.

Jacksonville, FL (PRWEB) April 12, 2006

One of the pioneers of the human resources outsourcing (HRO) industry is coming to Jacksonville to show businesses and organizations how they can become more efficient through the strategic use of HRO.

Jay Whitehead, president and publisher of “HRO Today” and “HRO Europe” magazines, will present the keynote address at “Human Resource Outsourcing: The Technological Advantage,” Thursday, April 20, 2006 at the Jacksonville Marriott Hotel, from 7:30 to 9:30 a. m. The event, sponsored by SingleSource Services Corp., in conjunction with the Jacksonville Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), includes a continental breakfast. Cost is $25 for SHRM members and $35 for non-SHRM members. To register, visit www. singlesourceservices. com or call (904) 241-1821.

”Any $59 billion fast-growth industry that completely transforms its clients businesses is bound to create confusion, fear and opportunity,” Whitehead said. “The HRO phenomenon has swallowed the HR profession whole. This event will help keep your career and company ahead of the HRO curve.”

In addition to his media career, Whitehead has led several HRO businesses. He helped create the industry, coining the now standard term “HRO,” and then “FAO,” which has become synonymous with the $98 billion Finance and Accounting Outsourcing market. Most recently, he and 22 industry colleagues co-founded the HRO Association, which has more than 1,000 members nationwide.

"Hey Kid, Help Me Raise My Kids!" Vanessa Van Petten, Voice of the New Net-Generation Starts Speaking Tour

"Hey Kid, Help Me Raise My Kids!" Vanessa Van Petten, Voice of the New Net-Generation Starts Speaking Tour

Vanessa Van Petten, author of "You're Grounded! A book by a teen for teens and parents" and creator of RRules. com has started her speaking tour.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 25, 2007

Vanessa Van Petten, author of "You're Grounded! A book by a teen for teens and parents" and creator of RRules. com has started her speaking tour.

"Parents need to know what's going on behind their teenagers' slammed bedroom doors."

Are doctors and psychologists out of touch with the current issues and problems facing teens? "Adults may have the answers, but how can parents know what questions to ask when approaching their teenagers on issues like keeping their curfew and finishing their homework", says Van Petten. Parents are frustrated that teenagers aren't listening and teenagers are angry that they are not being heard. Van Petten has set out to change this destructive cycle.

Van Petten watched many of her friends in high school and college ruin their lives with drugs and alcohol. When she learned that her friends' destructive behavior stemmed from poor relationships with their parents, she dedicated her life to helping the Generation Y mend relationships at home, find safe activities and have fun without drugs. "By helping establish stronger relationships during teen years", Van Petten believes, "we will have healthier and happier adults."

Van Petten's speaking engagements have appealed to a great variety of people. Van Petten is booked to speak at events varying from the Jewish Federation Portland to Los Angeles Private School Parent groups who want a teenage perspective on reaching their kids. Teen groups, young entrepreneurs and high school students want to hear how to compromise with their parents and how the net-generation of tech-savvy users can capture the power of the internet. Companies who want to know how to market their brands and products to teenagers are interested in Van Petten's experience running RRules. com--a site that follows current teen pulses and trends, as well as the daily issues faced by parents.

About "You're Grounded!":
Van Petten conducted over 700 of interviews in high school with teens, parents and teachers to write "You're Grounded!" and uses this research along with personal anecdotes of her own 'groundings' to help parents and teenagers close their communication gap.

About RRules. com:
Van Petten launched RRules. com--an online editable parenting and teen guide written by the users themselves. Van Petten says, "RRules could be described as a Wikipedia for parents and teens, a type of community parenting." The best part of the site? Van Petten highlights the anonymous voting feature where the results are displayed by percent of teens and parents who agree. Parent users can better understand what their teens think about house rules, the "sex talk" or the high school prom. By voting on topical teen issues, writing articles and entering discussion forums, teens can anonymously express themselves and collaborate with peers as well as anonymous parent figures.

WWF Praises Obama Ocean Initiative

New Marine Policy Would Establish Coordinated Management Structure for Oceans, Coasts and Great Lakes

Washington, DC (Vocus) July 19, 2010

An interagency task force within the Obama administration today issued final recommendations for a national ocean policy that would for the first time establish a coordinated system for managing America’s oceans, coasts and Great Lakes. The recommendations are expected to be formalized by President Obama in an Executive Order as soon as today. Implementing such a policy has long been a top priority for World Wildlife Fund.

“Today the Obama administration took an historic step in conserving the health of the oceans, coasts and Great Lakes for generations to come,” said Bill Eichbaum, WWF Vice President for Marine Policy. “This policy will go a long way toward addressing the major threats to our oceans, coasts and Great Lakes and protecting the thousands of communities and millions of jobs they support. It will also promote a targeted push to conserve America’s most special and vulnerable places, including America’s Arctic.

“The oceans are home to countless species, but they are also the economic foundation of thousands of communities and a source of recreation for millions of Americans. Whether a fisherman, tour operator or beachgoer, we will all benefit from a rational, coordinated approach to ocean conservation and management.”

In 2003 and 2004, reports issued by the Pew Oceans Commission and the US Commission on Ocean Policy, respectively, warned that poor management and lack of coordination among federal agencies were threatening the health and economic productivity of our oceans, coasts, and Great Lakes.

The Ocean Policy Task Force, which issued its final recommendations today, was convened last year by the President to examine the threats to coastal environments and communities, meet with stakeholders and recommend policy changes. The Executive Order that the President is expected to sign would effectively direct federal agencies to adopt and implement the task force’s recommendations.

The new policy would be implemented through a newly established National Ocean Council that would coordinate management activities for US ocean waters, coastal zones and Great Lakes. Marine management under this policy would be “ecosystem-based,” meaning regulation of specific activities, such as oil and gas development, would take into account impacts on the broader ecosystems that could be affected. The policy would also for the first time employ “marine spatial planning,” which would protect ocean ecosystems and minimize conflicts between new and existing ocean uses through science-based decision making and the involvement of stakeholders and the public.

“As we witness the gut-wrenching devastation in the Gulf of Mexico, this announcement is welcome news for the future health of our oceans,” said Eichbaum. “We commend President Obama for his leadership in convening the task force and heeding its recommendations.”

In April, William Reilly, WWF Chairman Emeritus and former Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, authored an op-ed in Politico explaining the need for a new national ocean policy.

LeapFrog Interactive Ready to Launch Integrated Marketing Campaign Aimed at Obesity

LeapFrog Interactive Ready to Launch Integrated Marketing Campaign Aimed at Obesity

LeapFrog Interactive, a full-service digital agency focused on the integrated lifestyles of consumers, is pleased to announce its partnership with Hamilton County Public Health and its role in a social awareness campaign to support a two-year Communities Putting Prevention to Work initiative.

Louisville, KY (PRWEB) December 22, 2010

LeapFrog Interactive, a full-service digital agency focused on the integrated lifestyles of consumers, is pleased to announce its partnership with Hamilton County Public Health and its role in a social awareness campaign to support a two-year Communities Putting Prevention to Work initiative.

Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) is funded by the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 through the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Hamilton County Public Health is one of 44 national grant-awarded communities charged with implementing strategies for improved nutrition and increased physical activity. In Hamilton County, 21.8 percent of third graders are overweight, and if a child is obese at age 10, there is an 80 percent chance he or she will be obese as an adult. Currently, 24 percent of residents in Hamilton County report having no physical activity during the past month and only 8.7 percent of adults consume the amounts of daily fruits and vegetables required by the USDA.

"We're working with our strategic partners to really change social norms -- what's accepted and expected -- by creating policy, systems and environmental changes that support our goal of building healthy communities," says Kate Julius, CPPW Project Coordinator for Hamilton County Public Health. Julius, alongside team members at HCPH and with local partners like The University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, have developed a Community Action Plan that contains specific milestones, action steps and outcomes.

LeapFrog Interactive will play a critical role in supporting Community Action Plan activities as well as developing a creative media campaign to build awareness, engagement and action. The campaign theme is WeTHRIVE!, a phrase that has already been introduced to several Hamilton County neighborhoods and adopted by many residents.

"WeTHRIVE! was well-tested with community ambassadors. Clearly, they wanted all marketing and advertising to carry a positive, forward-looking, community-oriented tone," said Suzanne Beane, VP, Branding + Strategy for LeapFrog Interactive. "This campaign paints a vision of what is possible and there are many residents and community advocates who are leading the way."

The advertising will highlight all of the seemingly small steps residents, businesses and neighborhoods can take to produce positive change for an entire community. "Some residents are already active in caring for community gardens and in church wellness programs. Cincinnati Public Schools just adopted a competitive foods policy. There are already good examples of how Hamilton County is on the road to being healthier," says Alan Gilleo, Chief Creative + Experience Officer for LeapFrog Interactive.

Yet, the obesity rate and associated costs show the community has a long way to go. LeapFrog will use a combination of traditional and digital media to get the word out about making the healthy choice the easy choice. Included in the plans is a mapping system where residents can locate the nearest parks, fitness facilities, farmer's markets and other resources for nutrition and physical activity.

"We're pleased we get to play such a connective role in changing the way our communities think about food access and nutrition," says Stacy Wegley, Director of Health Promotion and Education at Hamilton County Public Health. "But this is just the beginning. All of the plans we're unveiling now will have a sustainability component. We have to keep the momentum up long after the CPPW grant period has ended."

Marketing will launch in late 2010 with the media components beginning in early 2011.

Hamilton County Public Health's WeTHRIVE! Initiative
The WeTHRIVE! initiative promotes physical activity and healthy eating, reduced tobacco use and exposure, and builds community capacity for systems, environmental, and policy change aimed to reduce the burden of disease related to obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular illness. California Lutheran Looks at the Star of the Future -- Financial Planning

California Lutheran Looks at the Star of the Future -- Financial Planning

Award-winning program prepares students to help people make the difficult decisions of a financially planned life. A rigorous graduate education in a flexible online environment coupled with the preparation for the CFP Certification exam prepares professional for one of the best jobs in the country - a Certified Financial Planning Practitioner.

Thousand Oaks, CA (PRWEB) July 2, 2007

Students enrolled in the online Financial Planning program at California Lutheran University (CLU) have a bit of a 'leg-up' when it comes to the future. Not only are students participating in the USDLA's silver award winning program for Best Practices in Distance Learning Programming, they are being educated in the responsible management and informed decision-making process surrounding the finance world.

The U. S. Financial Literacy and Education Commission defines financial literacy as "the ability to make informed judgments and to take effective actions regarding the current and future use and management of money." Financial literacy should include the ability to understand financial choices, plan for the future, spend wisely and manage and be ready for life events, such as, job loss or saving for retirement.

Central to the Financial Planning program's mission is to educate its students about the very important fact that financial decisions are the outcomes of reasoned processes. Reasonable expectations, along with a clear, time-bound objective is all that is required to make informed decisions. Alternatively, unreasonable expectations - for any financial decision -- generally lead to poor financial health. According to Dr. Somnath Basu, the Director of the California Institute of Finance, his desire for every student is to understand "what are the benefits of being informed, the costs of not being adequately informed, and the dynamics of information over time."

Individuals make a wide array of financial decisions through their lifetime. Examples of such decisions include saving for retirement, managing credit wisely, budgeting, tax and estate planning, and insurance. The intent of financial education should concentrate on financial activities and behavior that promote general financial well-being and health. Along the same lines, a well-trained financial expert should be able to detect symptoms of poor financial health.

The California Institute of Finance focuses it curriculum on a disciplined approach to financial decisions. As a result, students are exposed to a knowledgeable body of information and resources. However, the Financial Planning program also offers its students the advantages of flexibility and convenience. Offered as an online MBA and certificate program, each course is designed to fit the needs of adult professionals seeking a higher level of degree or certification. CLU's unique, distance learning program in Financial Planning developed through a partnership with The Learning House, Inc.--a comprehensive eLearning services company. Together, their goal was to build a quality online campus supported by customized eContent, interactive technology, and 24/7/365 technical support.

Ultimately, students of the California Institute of Finance have a distinct advantage when entering the world of finance. On the one hand, graduates of the Financial Planning program have a complex knowledge of foreseeable financial concerns and the solutions to avoid and resolve any arising issues. Yet, students can also benefit from the online course structure that enables working professionals to continue their education while maintaining any work schedule.

In the end, the California Institute of Finance is proud to bestow upon its students a well-rounded perspective of the future. Fortunately, for its students, the future looks bright.
