ENDURANCE HORSE RIDER WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS TO COMPETE IN PAN AMERICAN ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP

ENDURANCE HORSE RIDER WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS TO COMPETE IN PAN AMERICAN ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP

Alexandra North and CV Butter Bea Set Sights on World Endurance Cup Team

CARMEL, CA (PRWEB) August 26, 2003 -

– The Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life Project (MSQLP), whose mission is to serve multiple sclerosis patients in Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties, today announced that endurance horse rider, multiple sclerosis patient and MSQLP spokeswoman, Alexandra North, will compete in the Pan American Endurance Championship (PAC 2003).

Held in Trout Lake, Washington on September 13, 2003, PAC 2003 is an elite, 100-mile ride over challenging and spectacular terrain that winds through the forests flanking Mt. Adams, a 12,276-foot volcano. Completion of the PAC 2003 with a satisfactory ranking is critical in order for Butter Bea and North to be considered for the USA Team going to the World Endurance Cup in December 2004, held in the United Arab Emirates.

Race officials will be present at PAC 2003 to monitor horses, riders and crew as part of the World Cup Team selection process. For more information about PAC 2003, visit http://www. endurance. net/2003pac/ (http://www. endurance. net/2003pac/).

“Butter Bea and I have our sights set on a spot racing with the USA World Cup Team, and I think we’ve got a good chance of making it,” said North. “Last year, Butter Bea finished in the top ten, 21 out of 27 races. At the end of the racing season, she ran six races in less than a month, and won five of those six races. After four years of intensive training, Butter Bea has become an endurance machine with a competitive spirit that can be crushing at times.”

North took up the sport of endurance riding in 1995, just a few months before she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She is now in remission, which she credits to endurance riding. In the true spirit of determination, courage and grit, North and Butter Bea have never missed a race, even though North once had to be lifted into her saddle because she was experiencing severe symptoms.

To date, the formidable team have competed in 45 rides and logged over 2,500 miles. Their accomplishments include Best Condition, Swanton Pacific, 75 Miles; First Place, Ware Mare Award; First Place, West Region Overall; Easyboot Pioneer Award, Middleweight Division for Multi Day Events; First Place, West Region Middleweight Division; Sixth Place, National Mileage; XP Gold Medal for Multi Day Events; and Best Condition Overall, Bryce Canyon XP, 5 Days, 250 Miles.

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that affects nerve function. Characterized by symptoms that vary in degree and intensity, multiple sclerosis is unpredictable, and leaves some of its victims wheelchair-bound or bedridden. A volunteer fundraiser for MSQLP, North encourages the community to sponsor her rides, either by mile, by event, or in lump sum. Tax-deductible contributions can be mailed to: MSQLP, P. O. Box 223537, Carmel, California 93922-3537. Funding will enable MSQLP to hire a critically needed medical social worker.

“Our multiple sclerosis population is spread over a wide, geographical area,” said Dr. Lotte Marcus, co-founder and president of MSQLP. “Clients are forced to cobble together treatment plans along an improvisational model - a model that is both costly and that drains folks of energy. Our hope is that, with the services of a medical social worker, this population will no longer feel like a medical orphan.”

Dr. Marcus and Alexandra North welcome opportunities to speak to the tri-County community about multiple sclerosis. Please contact Judy Plummer, at (831) 335-4937 or jplummer@cruzio. com to request an appearance.

About Alexandra North

An avid horsewoman since the age of eight, North started endurance riding in 1995, a few months before she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. In spite of unpredictable and sporadic symptoms, North continues to pursue her passion for riding because of the healing effects it provides. After learning about the Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life Project (MSQLP), she now competes to raise funds for MSQLP. In 2002, North and her horse, Butter Bea, ranked sixth in the nation for miles raced.

Formerly with Dunlap, Slade, Lubow in Carmel, North launched her own CPA practice in 1999 so she would have more flexibility to participate in endurance rides. Prior to Dunlap, Slade, Lubow, North was with Maryanov Madsen Gordon & Campbell in Palm Springs. North holds a BA in Journalism from Humboldt State University, Arcata, California, and received her certificate in Financial Accounting from National University in San Diego.

About Dr. Lotte Marcus

Dr. Lotte Marcus, President and Chairman of the Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life Project, is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Carmel, California, and was a lecturer in the Department of Community Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Marcus has treated many clients with multiple sclerosis, and has worked with multiple sclerosis clients at the rehabilitation facility, Transitions, in Gilroy, California.

Dr. Marcus, with her husband Alan, is the author of “Reflections on the Culture, Politics and Psychology of Multiple Sclerosis,” as well as numerous publications on illness counseling. Under the auspices of the Silicon Valley Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Multiple Sclerosis Community Services of Salinas, Dr. Marcus has made many presentations to multiple sclerosis to patients. She has also addressed physicians at the Community Hospital of the Monterey peninsula, at the University of California, San Francisco, and at Sutter Medical Center in Santa Rosa (formerly Santa Rosa Community hospital).

On June 12, 2003, Dr. Marcus received The Spirit Award, presented by the Freedom To Live Foundation in Los Angeles, in recognition of her services.

About the Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life Project

The Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life Project (MSQLP), in cooperation with the Silicon Valley Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, is a 501 (c) (3) Non-Profit Corporation dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with multiple sclerosis and their families in Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties.

Based on the results of a Needs Assessment Survey released by MSQLP in 2002, there is a need for integrated, client-centered, care management plans to ensure that multiple sclerosis patients arenÂ’t slipping through the cracks of the health care system. MSQLP is committed to fulfilling this need by hiring a medical social worker who will serve ambulatory and home-bound multiple sclerosis patients in the tri-County area to help them overcome the physical and/or emotional problems that have made life more difficult.

For more information about MSQLP or to volunteer your time and talent, call MSQLP at: 831-457-7786.Tax-deductible contributions can be mailed to: MSQLP, P. O. Box 223537, Carmel, CA 93922-3537.

EditorÂ’s Note: Endurance ride horses receive the very best of care, with regular breaks for food, water, rest and veterinary checks. Races are governed by the AERC, which has developed rules and strict controls to ensure the health and welfare of the horses competing in endurance rides.

Raw Food Diet Explodes Across Australia With Startling Health and Weight Loss Results

Raw Food Diet Explodes Across Australia With Startling Health and Weight Loss Results

Weight loss, disease remission, improved complexion and increased immunnity reported by local participants as doctor praise and discussion forums spread natures oldest way of eating faster than ever before.

(PRWEB) September 30, 2004

After a barrage of short term diets aimed more at boosting revenues than improving health, the raw food diet - or living foods as its often known - is a nutritional breath of fresh air. At last, pills, potions and protein powders have been dropped in favour of foods that doctors, nutritionists and common sense have been clamoring to be increased for years: fresh, unprocessed, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Living foods has taken this age old advice for improved health and taken it to the next level; famous chefs like Charlie Trotter, Roxanne Klein and Cherie Soria create sumptuous, varied feasts entirely from these ingredients – no cooking required. Ordinary people all over Australia and the world have discovered the flavours and ease of living foods, often reporting a wide range of dramatic health benefits such as weight loss, disease remissions, increased immunity and improved complexions.

Sheryl and Piers Duruz, co-founders of AustraliaÂ’s leading raw food education web site www. Raw-Pleasure. com dropped 32 kg (thatÂ’s 70 pounds) and halved body fat from 21% to 9.6% respectively by changing their way of eating.

“The weight loss was a wonderful surprise,” Piers relates “but feeling alive, energetic and alert enough to see the world as a wonderful place instead of tired and negative is worth more than I ever could have imagined before. It’s a truly hidden gift of life. www. Raw-Pleasure. com is our gift back to say thank you and help make it easy for others.”

Subscribers to www. Raw-Pleasure. comÂ’s free Taste Tester recipe testing program regularly receive recipes such as curries, cakes, biscuits, sandwiches, cookies, snacks and more and are quickly developing a country-wide support network on their forums with a uniquely Australian flavour.

Many doctors, such as Dr Doug Graham, are giving living foods the thumbs up. Dr Graham has trained many sports legends such as tennis Player Martina Navratilova, NBA pro basketball player Ronnie Grandison, track Olympic sprinter Doug Dickinson, as well as the United States Olympic Diving team and the Norwegian National Bicycling team. Dr Graham states that “people thrive on the raw diet, often telling others how it has improved their health and their lives. Fruits, vegetables, and leafy greens not only contain sustainable amounts of carbohydrates, protein and fat, they have them in the percentages, ratios, and quality that are optimum for human health. When people integrate a proper raw diet with other healthful living practices, they rarely, if ever, develop weight control problems, chronic or even short-term illnesses.”

Even conservative groups such as the US governments National Cancer Institute concur with living foods, such as fruit and vegetables, anti cancer properties stating “Fruit and vegetable consumption have generally been found in epidemiologic studies to be associated with reduced risk for a number of different cancers”.

“All I know is that it’s the most delicious, time proven way of eating out there… and we feel great!” says Piers. Maybe we would all benefit from taking another bite at nature’s original fare.

Viva la Raw!

As NBC TV’s hit show “Deal or No Deal” prepares to launch its second season, model and actor Aubrie Lemon talks about its success to men’s lifestyle portal Savvy. com. The Savvy interview features Lemon in a steamy, non-nude pictorial and also discusses her new movie.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) August 29, 2006

As NBC TV’s hit show “Deal or No Deal” prepares to launch its second season, model and actor Aubrie Lemon talks about its success to men’s lifestyle portal Savvy. com. The Savvy interview features Lemon in a steamy, non-nude pictorial and also discusses her new movie.

Lemon is one of the 26 stunning women holding sealed briefcases on “Deal or No Deal”, the game show hosted by Howie Mandel. She and the other beauties were chosen for the most recent list of People magazine’s “100 Most Beautiful People,” and Lemon says there will be a handful of new women in the lineup when the program returns with a special two-hour premiere on Sept. 18.

The show has opened a lot of doors for Lemon professionally.

“Being on a hit show has opened my eyes to a whole different world. I’ve been a full-time model for so long, but now acting is something I want to actively pursue,” she tells Savvy. com.

She has a supporting role as the drop-dead gorgeous Swedish bombshell Belga in the new beach comedy film “Surf School.” For the role, the native Californian worked with a dialect coach to learn her lines with a Swedish accent.

Her blonde, sexy appeal also shines in Lemon’s new poster, available for sale on her website, AubrieLemon. com.

She is eager to see where the future takes her.

“I think everything happens for a reason,” she says. “I went into the audition for ‘Deal or No Deal’ having no idea how much the show would grow. I was approached for the role in ‘Surf School’ and came into this purely for fun with no expectations. Things are going great so why not pursue these opportunities?”

New Feature-Loaded Adventure Shield Pants and Jackets Provide Tried-and-True Protection Against Mosquitoes and Other Biting Bugs

New Feature-Loaded Adventure Shield Pants and Jackets Provide Tried-and-True Protection Against Mosquitoes and Other Biting Bugs

Tiger Mountain Gear's Adventure Shield pants, jackets and mosquito repellant undergo extreme field tests...in the mosquito-infested Alaskan tundra before they come to market. Unique features such as a 4-way hood zipper, boot gators and bug-protected side venting are proven winners for people who love outdoor adventures from hiking and backpacking to fishing, photography, and traveling.

Issaquah, WA (PRWEB) April 11, 2005

With summer fast approaching and reports of West Nile Virus looming on the horizon, wearing the right type of protective clothing while hiking, on vacation, or pursuing adventure is critical to both oneÂ’s health and to creating a memorable experience. Ideally, the clothing needs to have been tested in the worst possible conditions to make sure it is guaranteed to perform in all adverse situations. ThatÂ’s exactly how Tiger Mountain GearÂ’s feature-loaded Adventure Shield jackets and pants have been developed.

Before Tiger Mountain Gear’s products reach the market, they undergo a final extreme field test…in the mosquito-infested Alaskan tundra. That’s where the company’s Adventure Shield jackets and pants prove themselves with unique features like the jacket’s 4-way hood zipper that provides unlimited adjustment so you can eat or use binoculars, cameras and scopes with ease while also providing sun protection and cool venting. Or the pant’s unique built in “boot gators” that seal the bottom to keep biting bugs from crawling up your legs, yet allow you to put on and remove them without taking off your boots. The bug-protected side venting in the pants allow you to unzip the side vents for cooling without being bitten.

Part of the reason Adventure ShieldÂ’s clothing works is because its co-founder, Chris Smith, has spent his entire life exploring the outdoors. HeÂ’s canoed and fished wilderness waters from Washington to Minnesota and hiked the jungles of the Yucatan peninsula to the tundra of Alaska. Smith and his partner, Elsie Smith, knew it was time to start Tiger Mountain Gear when their backpacks became filled with outdoor gear product sketches, pieces of material, scissors, thread and experimental natural insect repellent in their attempts to solve some of the annoying problems they experienced on their adventures.

“As avid hikers,” says Smith, “we wanted to provide no-holds-barred solutions for the outdoor problems we kept experiencing. When West Nile Virus started creating fears among outdoors people – people just trying to enjoy a simple evening walk - we decided that dealing with biting insects would be our first challenge.”

To get started, Smith immersed himself in the study of mosquitoes. He also created a lengthy list of product “must haves” which included finding a breathable and cool high tech-micro fiber impermeable to mosquitoes. He spent the next two years testing over 600 fabrics and perfecting and manufacturing designs to meet these specifications. The jacket and pants reached the market only after they achieved the right balance of protection, practicality, performance and aesthetic appeal…and then only after the clothing was tested in the Alaska Tundra, in some of the largest concentrations of mosquitoes in the world. Meanwhile, a host of design volunteers provided constant feedback as the design evolved.

“I can say with confidence that Adventure Shield jackets and pants are truly one-of-a-kind clothing,” says Smith. “Not only do they provide optimal protection from mosquitoes and other biting bugs, but they look good too, so you can wear them around the campsite or even around town.”

The inaugural event will be headlined by the 5th Annual Fitness Model Search

Championships and will play host to the Fitness Canada Pageant Centrals and Musclemania Canada Centrals, which are part of a cross-country series that comes to a head in July with a national competition. Topping it all off is an exciting – and star-studded – line-up of nutrition, conditioning and high-performance specialists, headed by business leader and fitness innovator

Shawn Phillips, author of New York Times best seller ABSolution: The Practical Solution for Building Your Best ABS. A series of advanced seminars revealing the art and science behind body transformations will be addressed by respected industry experts, including Clark Bartram,

Harley Pasternak, Dr. Michael Colgan, Dr. Ken Kinakin, Brad J. King and Don Lemmon.

WNSOÂ’s own Ian Walling, the top ranked professional natural bodybuilder in the world, and Sylvia Tremblay, winner of the Fitness Canada and Fitness America Pageants, will also lead a number of competition training, posing and choreographing workshops.

The WNSO goes to great lengths to maintain fairness in their bodybuilding and fitness events by screening athletes for banned substances. Athletes must sign sworn statements, undergo lie detector tests and are subject to mandatory drug testing. New for FAME: a Physique Screening Panel that will screen entrants for signs of steroid use before they even compete. Besides

Superhuman muscles and dangerously low levels of body fat, some of the visible effects include: prominent vascularity (veins), gynecomastia (the development of female breast tissue in males), a swollen abdomen, and signs of masculinity in women such as excessive hair growth

And deepening of the voice.

“Our athletes demonstrate what old-fashioned determination and sweat can actually accomplish, and that almost anyone can attain a fit and muscular physique,” says WNSO co-founder and partner Mindy Blackstien. “FAME will show them how.”

FAME is more than just a showcase for natural talent – it is a recruiting ground for companies, a place for casting and modeling agencies looking for the next face of fitness, and a large-scale consumer show dedicated to helping body-conscious individuals break through their plateaus and reach the next level in fitness. The two-day event, which is presented in part by

Supplement retailer GNC Canada, EAS performance nutrition products, and Grizzly Fitness Accessories, is expected to attract over 10,000 people. The show will unveil the latest in fitness products, services, certifications and techniques, including: sports supplements, clothing, tanning products, fitness gear and equipment; and featuring some of the industryÂ’s top trainers, health practitioners, choreographers, photographers, and model and casting agencies. In addition, an array of fun and interactive mini-challenges will be open to all attendees. Included:

A Best Routines Competition, ProlabÂ’s Dip Contest, Grizzly Fitness Push-up Contest, Cytodyne Curl Challenge and the Lean System 7 Best Abs Contest hosted by Shawn Phillips!

Top Secret fertilizer tissue culture an ICP spectrometry

Top Secret fertilizer tissue culture an ICP spectrometry.

Top Secret fertilizer results from an innovative approach to developing plant nutrients.

Palm Desert CA (PRWEB) July 8, 2004

Top Secret is the best choice for plants grown in hydroponics, soil less, or soil growing systems. Top Secret results from an innovative approach to developing plant nutrients. Our biochemists have analyzed the needs of the plants through tissue culture an ICP spectrometry. This novel approach to producing plant-friendly nutrients caused plants to mature quickly, and to increase the yield of fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Top Secret is the product because:

• It contains covers every stage of the plant life cycles

• It gives plants the macro and micro elements for healthy vigorous growth

•  It contains all additives need, no costly and inconvenient additional products required.

• It makes plant care and feeding simple for growers.

• It is environmentally safe

• It is best choice for organic growers (five levels above organic)

• Top Secret provides three products for growing the perfect plant: Top Secret Cloning 100% pure pharmaceutical grade materials

It Gel, Top Secret Formula Grow A&B and Top Secret Formula Bloom A&B.

Starting off with cuttings, Top Secret Cloning Gel has the highest level of rooting agents available. Top Secret Cloning Gel penetrates the outer level of cutting for 99% successful plant production: Top Secret clone contains the active ingredient mycrorrhizal, which produces abundant fuzzy white roots.

Top Secret Formula Grow A&B, begins with the production root mass. Then, it builds strong branches capable of holding large fruits and flowers. Also, its enhances and keep plants internodes short, which strengthen the cortex of cell wall so the cells divide twice as fast and doubles growth. PH buffers keep PH between 5.5-6.5, which is ideal for most plants. The pharmaceutical grade material enables 100% uptake and are 100% digested by the plant. There is no salt Build up.

Top Secret Formula Bloom A&B, has all the high qualities of Top Secret Grow. Further, it is designed to cover all critical building blocks of the flowering stage. It also has enhancers to metabolize CO2. Growers who use CO2 will have 40% to 50% higher yield, enhancers in Top Secret Formula Bloom A&B increases the flow up the stibula of the plant for increased flower size, fragrance, and resins. To have big, beautiful fruits, and flowers, plants need a strong foundation, healthy roots, and strong, healthy branches to support their mass. Top Secret growers donÂ’t need to interrupt the growth cycle to flush out impurities that complicate growing with other brands of liquid fertilizers. Top Secret products have been field tested. Top Secret growers are highly satisfied with the results. Nourish your plants with Top Secret throughout the growth cycles to capitalize on abundant harvest.

Avoid E. Coli and Hepetatis A: Open a Public Restroom Door with your Wrist or Forearm with the Patented SanitGrasp Door Pull Handle

The SanitGrasp® (patent pending) is a "J" shaped door pull handle that allows a person to exit the restroom door with their wrist or forearm, thereby avoiding germs on the traditional restroom door pull handle. The SanitGrasp® was developed to solve the following scenario in a public restroom: 1. Use the facilities - probably with an automatic flusher 2. Wash hands - probably with an automatic faucet 3. Exit restroom by touching pull handle - hands once again are contaminated

Cumming, GA (PRWEB) March 23, 2007

The SanitGrasp® (patent pending) is a new door pull handle that allows a person to exit the restroom door with their wrist or forearm, thereby avoiding germs on the traditional restroom door pull handle.

Fulkerson, LLC President, Matthew Fulkerson, stated, "This product provides a unique opportunity for an establishment to show their customers they really care about the health of their facility. We have all seen a person leave the restroom stall and head straight for the restroom exit door. What happens when a cook leaves the restroom and picks up those nasty viruses? It is well known that germs can stay alive on hard surfaces for a minumum of 20 minutes. This is one way of spreading the common cold, e. coli, staphylococcus (the virus behind food poisoning and a form of pneumonia) or even hepatitis A. The SanitGrasp® allows those who wash their hands to exit without touching a contaminated restroom door pull handle." Many restaurants in North America and Central America are improving their facility with the SanitGrasp®.

Public Restroom Door Handle Concerns

The SanitGrasp® was developed to solve the following problem in a public restrooms:

1. Use the facilities - probably with an automatic flusher

2. Wash hands - probably with an automatic faucet

3. Exit restroom by touching pull handle - hands once again are contaminated

The SanitGrasp® is the Solution

The "J" shaped pull handle allows patrons and employees to open the restroom exit door with their wrist or forearm. This provides many benefits:

Increased the sanitation within an establishment  Ease of use for those with hand disabilities  Reduced paper towel waste and expense  Enhanced customer experience

"The SanitGrasp® offers a rare opportunity to quickly and economically improve a customer's experience. It is a very easy retrofit for existing door pull handles," stated Matthew Fulkerson.

Free Tutorials on Model Organism Genomic Databases Released by OpenHelix

Free Tutorials on Model Organism Genomic Databases Released by OpenHelix

Free OpenHelix tutorial suites offer researchers and scientists an effective and efficient tool to quickly use resources to mine the genomic data of model organisms.

Seattle WA (PRWEB) February 4, 2009

OpenHelix (http://www. openhelix. com) today announced the free availability of tutorial suites on model organism databases and resources used extensively in research. The first tutorial suites available are GBrowse, Rat Genome Database (RGD), Mouse Genome Informatics (MGI), and WormBase. To be added in the coming weeks are Zebrafish Information Network (ZFIN), FlyBase and Saccharomyces (Yeast) Genome Database (SGD).

The tutorial suites, funded in part by a grant from the National Human Genome Research Institute of the National Institutes of Health, include a self run, narrated tutorial introducing the resource and how to use its feature and functions. Each suite also includes PowerPoint slides, handouts, and exercises that can be used for reference or for training others.

One of the first tutorials available is on GBrowse, developed by the Generic Model Organism Database (GMOD) project, a popular tool used by researchers to develop genome browsers for model organisms, species of interest, and particular topics. By learning how to use this "generic" genome browser, you can leverage that knowledge to use dozens of resources devoted to a wide range of research areas.

"The OpenHelix GBrowse user tutorial is very well done and will be an excellent resource for the many research communities that use GBrowse to visualize genomic data," said Dave Clements of the National Evolutionary Synthesis Center who runs the GMOD help desk.

Model organisms, such as yeast, mouse, rat, flies, and many others, have long been used by researchers to expand our understanding of biology and to assess the effectiveness and safety of therapies before going to human trial. Many of the genomes of these organisms have been completely sequenced, giving the scientific community even greater insight into the organisms and their relation to human biology. The genome data is now available and searchable on publicly available online databases and resources.

You can view the Model Organism tutorials (http://www. openhelix. com/model_organisms. shtml) at www. openhelix. com/model_organisms. shtml (http://www. openhelix. com/model_organisms. shtml). Joint Ventures, Niche Applications Offer Best Potential for Countering Threat from Asian Competitors for U. S. Vitamin A and Beta-carotene Markets

Joint Ventures, Niche Applications Offer Best Potential for Countering Threat from Asian Competitors for U. S. Vitamin A and Beta-carotene Markets

Frost & Sullivan finds that the U. S. Markets for Vitamin A and Beta-carotene earned revenues of $258.1 million in 2005 and estimates this to reach $302.3 million in 2012.

Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) April 29, 2006

The U. S. Vitamin A and Beta-carotene Markets are poised to enjoy growth in certain segments such as Food and Beverage and Dietary Supplements. However, the increasing amount of Asian competition expects to intensify price pressures already prevalent in this market and tighten margins further. Current manufacturers are increasingly looking to niche applications and joint venture agreements in order to remain competitive in these markets.

Frost & Sullivan (http://www. food. frost. com (http://www. food. frost. com)) finds that the U. S. Markets for Vitamin A and Beta-carotene earned revenues of $258.1 million in 2005 and estimates this to reach $302.3 million in 2012.

If you are interested in a virtual brochure, which provides manufacturers, end users, and other industry participants an overview of the latest analysis of the U. S. Markets for Vitamin A and Beta-carotene, then send an e-mail to Trisha Bradley, Corporate Communications at trisha. bradley@frost. com with the following information: your full name, company name, title, telephone number, e-mail address, city, state, and country. The brochure will be e-mailed to you upon receipt of this information.

“The most important factor driving the growth of the U. S. Vitamin A and Beta-carotene markets is the increased interest in preventative healthcare”, notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Ashwin Sukumaran. “Driven by the changing demographic profile of the U. S. population, the highest growth for Vitamin A and Beta-carotene expects to be seen in the fortified food and beverage and dietary supplement segments.”

The ageing of the baby boomer generation in the United States means that one of the fastest growing sections of the population in the next few years will be those over 65 years old. This section of the population is concerned about losing their health and vitality as they age. Combined with recent outbreaks of disease and rapidly escalating healthcare costs, there is a huge increase of interest in preventative healthcare which is driving growth in the Food and Beverage and Dietary Supplement segments of the U. S. Vitamin A and Beta-carotene markets.

In addition to this, advances in technology such as micro-encapsulation are creating hitherto unknown possibilities in terms of applications within these segments. However, growth in these markets will not be easy to achieve without resolving certain major challenges faced by the industry.

The biggest challenge is that of increased Asian competition in these markets. There is already a fair degree of price pressure prevalent in these markets. However, with the entry of Asian manufacturers expected in the next two to three years, these price pressures are expected to intensify and drive down margins.

“The challenge for European and American manufacturers in the U. S. Vitamin A and Beta-carotene markets in the next few years will be to establish a strong cost leadership position in preparation for the entry of Asian competitors”, explains Sukumaran. “However, considering the difference in cost structures between European or American manufacturers and Asian manufacturers, the sustainability of such a position is questionable. Considering what has been seen in other vitamins markets, the question then becomes one of whether to remain in this market at all.”

One possible response to meet Asian competition is to move away from the mass market, where competition is price-based and identify segments or niches, which are sustainable. Customer service and product quality then become important tools with which Vitamin A or Beta-carotene manufacturers can differentiate their products. If manufacturers cannot compete on the same field as Asian companies, they will need to move into new playing fields that either match their core competencies or combine their core skills with those of their erstwhile competitors.

The U. S. Markets for Vitamin A and Beta-carotene is part of the CMFB-88 ---Food & Beverages and CM00-CM ---Total Integrated Chemicals, Materials & Food Solution, which also includes research in the following markets: U. S. Vitamin E Markets, U. S. Vitamin C Markets, European Markets for Vitamin A and Beta-carotene, European Market for Vitamin E. All research included in subscriptions provide detailed market opportunities and industry trends that have been evaluated following extensive interviews with market participants. Interviews are available to the press.

Versaclimber and Los Angeles County Fire Department Working Together on Cardio Study for Fire Fighters

Versaclimber and Los Angeles County Fire Department Working Together on Cardio Study for Fire Fighters

Due to the high heart rate, energy cost, and oxygen consumption rates necessary for fire fighting, training the aerobic and cardiovascular systems are important for the safe and efficient performance of fire fighting related duties. The Versaclimber, total body, vertical climber exercise machine, has been chosen by LA County Fire Department to look at the training effects the VersaClimber provides their fire fighters.

Costa Mesa, CA (PRWEB) April 18, 2009

VersaClimber (Heart Rate Inc.) and LA County (California) Fire have teamed up and are currently under way to study the reliability and validity of using a VersaClimber (ladder climbing cardio machine) to assess the aerobic fitness of fire fighters in comparison to the treadmill cardio machine. This study is being conducted at the California State University, Fullerton.

Studies indicate, U. S. firefighters have one of the nation's highest occupational fatality rates, and 45% of these fatalities can be attributed to coronary heart disease. Due to these high numbers of deaths, several organizations including the National Fire Protection Agency, International Association of Firefighters, and International Association of Fire Chiefs are now considering physical training recommendations for fitness in order to decrease fatalities.

Because of high heart rate, energy cost, and oxygen consumption rates necessary for fire fighting, training the aerobic and cardiovascular systems are important for the safe and efficient performance of fire fighting related duties.

A training protocol that improves efficiency of oxygen exchange and decreases the amount of stress placed upon the heart would likely decrease fatalities due to coronary heart disease.

Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this study is to establish a standardized sub max maximum Vo2 prediction protocol on the VersaClimber for fire fighters.

In order to safeguard against acute cardiovascular incidences and inherent job-related hazards, professional firefighters are encouraged to maintain adequate levels of health and fitness. It is imperative that an exclusive approach to exercise training is pursued that mimics the specific metabolic characteristics of the firefighting occupation.

The findings from the current study are anticipated to be completed by the Fall of 2009.

For additional information on this study or on VersaClimber, contact:

Successful Author Self Publishes Free E-Book To Increase Market Awareness

Successful Author Self Publishes Free E-Book To Increase Market Awareness

Dr. Elizabeth Lipski, Author of Digestive Wellness, Leaky Gut Syndrome, and the Access to Health Experts interview series, has published a free compilation of her 2005 Health Tips as a marketing technique in order to reach a broader audience.

Asheville, NC (PRWEB) February 13, 2006

Nationally known nutritionist Liz Lipski, PhD, CCN decided to do something different for her next book – Give it away for free! Although this was unheard of 20 years ago it is a strategy that is becoming more commonplace in today’s electronic world. Dr. Lipski explains, “While it takes the same amount of time to write an e-book, there are no printing costs, and distribution is also free. Because I don’t need a publisher in this new electronic world, I decided to give my Health Tips book as a gift to the world. It’s good for the reader and at the same time helps promote my work. So this is a win for everyone.”

The book is titled, “Liz Lipski’s Weekly Health Tips for 2005 - 52 Ways to be Healthier.” Dr. Lipski describes it as an eclectic mix of practical health tips for the health conscious consumer. It includes tips on:

Diet Supplements and Herbs Stress Management Research on nutritional supplements Women’s issues such as menopause and bone health Reducing the risk of heart disease

With the rise of electronic publishing more established authors are publishing books as e-books only. It can be a good strategy for testing a publication before investing in the printing of 5,000 or more copies. It’s also an alternative for authors who have written a book, but cannot find a publisher to underwrite a printing. Dr. Lipski saw a third possibility; turning her book into a marketing strategy.

The question is, how well will it work? “It’s an experiment”, Dr. Lipski responds, “The cost so far, has been my time, and the lost revenue I would have received from selling the book. However, I’m confident that this is the right thing to do because I’m creating readers for my current books, and for my new book, “Digestive Wellness for Children”, that will be out this summer.”

Regardless of the outcome of Dr. Lipski’s experiment, the big winner is the internet community. As more authors publish free books, tens of millions of internet users will be there to benefit. You can download a copy of Dr. Lipski’s book by visiting: http://innovativehealing. com/tips (http://innovativehealing. com/tips)

With New Federal Statistics Showing 72.7% of Americans Overweight or Obese, IBWA Urges All Americans to Drink More Water

With New Federal Statistics Showing 72.7% of Americans Overweight or Obese, IBWA Urges All Americans to Drink More Water

Alarming new statistics from U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) indicate that 34% of Americans are obese, just under 6% are extremely or morbidly obese, and another 32.7% are considered overweight, according to data from a report released January 9, 2009, by CDCP’s National Center for Health Statistics in Rockville, MD. The International Bottled Water Association would therefore remind Americans that drinking water –- be it bottled or tap -– is an important part of a healthy diet.

Alexandria, VA (Vocus) January 14, 2009

Alarming new statistics from U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) indicate that 34% of Americans are obese, just under 6% are extremely or morbidly obese, and another 32.7% are considered overweight, according to data from a report released January 9, 2009, by CDCP’s National Center for Health Statistics in Rockville, MD. The International Bottled Water Association would therefore remind Americans that drinking water -– be it bottled or tap –- is an important part of a healthy diet.

The data in the report indicates almost three-quarters (or 72.7%) of all Americans weigh more than is healthy for their individual body types. According to the CDCH, “The prevalence of obesity in America has doubled in the past two decades.” As the CDCH report further notes: “A high prevalence of overweight and obesity is of great public health concern because excess body fat leads to a higher risk for premature death, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular disease, stroke, gall bladder disease, respiratory dysfunction, gout, osteoarthritis, and certain kinds of cancers.”

“Good hydration -– with plenty of calorie-free water –- has got to part of the solution to this alarming and preventable problem,” said IBWA President and CEO Joe Doss. “We recommend that everyone drink more water every day. And bottled water is a safe, healthy beverage choice, whether at home or office or on the go. During emergencies, we see how critical bottled water is for disaster-stricken communities and the importance of a coordinated, effective response to get drinking water to people in need. Obesity is now a public health emergency, but for this problem, tap water has as large a role to play as bottled water. ”

Water is an excellent choice for consumers who wish to avoid or moderate calories, caffeine, sugar or the various ingredients found in other beverages. “Any actions by legislators or activist groups that would discourage the consumption of water because it happens to be a container (as nearly all beverages are) are not in the public’s best interest,” said Doss. “We should all work together to encourage consumption of water.”

In order to help individuals determine their personal hydration goals, IBWA features Hydration Calculator (http://www. bottledwater. org/public/hydratio_main. htm) on its website. It is an interactive tool based on expert resources and the most current findings of the National Academy of Sciences, as reported in its February 2004 report, "Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) for Water, Potassium, Sodium, Chloride, and Sulfate.” IBWA’s Hydration Calculator provides helpful suggestions about an individual’s total fluid intake derived from both beverages and food, and other information about water's vital role in refreshment, health and hydration.

To use the IBWA Hydration Calculator, visit http://www. bottledwater. org/public/hydratio_main. htm (http://www. bottledwater. org/public/hydratio_main. htm).

The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) is the authoritative source of information about all types of bottled waters. Founded in 1958, IBWA's membership includes U. S. and international bottlers, distributors and suppliers. IBWA is committed to working with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which regulates bottled water as a packaged food product, and state governments to set stringent standards for safe, high quality bottled water products. In addition to FDA and state regulations, the Association requires member bottlers to adhere to the IBWA Bottled Water Code of Practice, which mandates additional standards and practices that in some cases are more stringent than federal and state regulations. A key feature of the IBWA Bottled Water Code of Practice is an annual, unannounced plant inspection by an independent, third party organization. Consumers can contact IBWA at 1-800-WATER-11 or log onto IBWA's web site (www. bottledwater. org) for more information about bottled water and a list of members' brands.

About Maggie's Place
Founded on Mother's Day 2000, Maggie's Place is a community that provides houses of hospitality for pregnant women who are alone or living on the streets. The mission of Maggie's Place is two-fold. First, Maggie's Place provides for the immediate physical and emotional needs of their guests by providing things such as shelter, food, clothing, transportation and a supportive community. GLO TO SLEEP™ Masks Make Their American Debut at Hollywood's Biggest Night Of the Year as OSCAR® 2008 Nominees are First US Recipients of Gift of Natural Drug-Free Sleep

GLO TO SLEEP™ Masks Make Their American Debut at Hollywood's Biggest Night Of the Year as OSCAR® 2008 Nominees are First US Recipients of Gift of Natural Drug-Free Sleep

Revolutionary 'Glo to Sleep(TM)' mask mask debuts at the 2008 Oscars(R). Hypoallergenic and made in the US, this 1/2 ounce mask induces a drug free sleep using the body's own sleeping mechanism.

Santa Cruz, CA (PRWEB) February 22, 2008

Today glotosleep. us proudly announced that the very first "GLO TO SLEEP™" masks, available in the U. S., are to be given to all of the non-winning nominees in the five principal categories in the 2008 Oscars® as part of their "Everybody Wins at the Oscars®" gift bags. Manufactured in California, from hypoallergenic materials, the GLO TO SLEEP ™ mask induces a natural drug-free sleep in the wearer, as the eyes focus upwards on pairs of blue luminous points inside the mask; the mind automatically shifts from active beta waves to relaxing, pre-sleep alpha waves.

Possibly the most unusual item in the Gift Bag, because, at first glance it looks like an ordinary sleep mask, but it is so much more, because it is truly the 'gift of sleep' -- and a healthy night's sleep at that. The GLO TO SLEEP™ inventor, and co-founder of its Canadian developers Line 49 Inc., was an oil rig engineer, lucky to get two hours of unbroken sleep a night, so necessity became the driving force behind the sleep mask. Unique and patented, the mask's outer fabric is breathable, super-soft super-light foam which blocks out all light and is custom-made in Europe exclusively for the product. It is extremely comfortable against the skin and is suitable for even those with extreme environmental sensitivities, and has an adjustable Vel-Stretch® strap.

Each of the non-winning nominees in the categories of Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, as well as Host, Jon Stewart, will receive the gift bag, which will include the GLO TO SLEEP™ mask. We are pleased to be able to give the 'gift of a natural night's sleep' to this select group of actors after what must be the most exhausting night of their year -- OSCAR® night," said Mackeonis for glotosleep. us, the exclusive US distributor of the GLO TO SLEEP™ mask. "Because the world is 'on' 24/7, our brains are on too, constantly being bombarded with stimulus -- computer screens, blackberries, cell phones, iPods, TV, lights, not to mention our jobs -- people just can't turn off at night when they want to. Actors have the added complexity of needing to be on the set all hours of the day and night, with only a few hours to devote to sleep, which may not come as easily as they'd like, until now," concluded Mackeonis.

The methodology behind GLO TO SLEEP™ is taken from meditation techniques. For centuries, meditation has been widely used worldwide to achieve a state in which no thoughts come to mind. It is widely acknowledged that the act of looking up and focusing the attention on a point between the eyebrows, known as the 'third', or 'spiritual eye', influences brain wave patterns by transforming active beta waves into mind-calming alpha waves. GLO TO SLEEP™ makes it easy to achieve this relaxed state, by the wearer breathing deeply and looking up at the pairs of blue points inside the mask. The result is that thoughts dissipate, the body relaxes and sleep comes easily and naturally.

The GLO TO SLEEP™ mask has been available in the UK and Europe since 2005 and is now making its debut in the United States at the Oscars® in Los Angeles. The GLO TO SLEEP™ mask retails for $64.95 and can be ordered in the US at santacruzholistics. com. For more information, contact Peter Mackeonis at peter @ glotosleep. us (tel 1.831.840.3729), or visit the GLO TO SLEEP™ US website at http://www. glotosleep. us.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 13, 2008

Statement by Cindy Mann on Senator Baucus's Call to Action: Health Reform 2009. Mann is the Executive Director of Georgetown University's Health Policy Institute Center for Children and Families.

"I want to commend Senator Baucus for his leadership in moving the debate forward on health reform. As unemployment rises and more and more families lose access to affordable healthcare coverage, it is essential that the federal government take action. Senator Baucus's proposal wisely builds upon key public programs such as Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). These vital programs serve as the cornerstone of our health care system. During this economic turmoil, it is essential that we maintain and strengthen these important lifelines to our nation's children."

Online Wellness Community and E-commerce Site InnerRewards Raises $1 Million in Angel Funding

Online Wellness Community and E-commerce Site InnerRewards Raises $1 Million in Angel Funding

Company unveils powerful online marketing platform that includes business listings, an e-commerce engine and full social networking features

San Francisco, Calif. (PRWEB) December 10, 2008

Even with the economic downturn, the wellness industry continues to grow rapidly as consumers look to spas (http://www. innerrewards. com/topics/spas/articles/ir-types-of-spas-323), yoga (http://www. innerrewards. com), Pilates (http://www. innerrewards. com/topics/pilates/articles/ir-is-pilates-for-everybody-20), alternative medicine and more to ease stress and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The spa sector alone is a $255 billion a year market. But as the industry grows, it has also become fragmented, making it difficult for consumers to get straightforward, trusted, and accurate information. Today, InnerRewards - a single online destination where consumers can learn about various health and wellness topics, find and review businesses, connect with other sophisticated consumers, and buy wellness services and products - announced it has raised $1 million in angel funding and launched its public beta.

InnerRewards is the first community-focused, integrated online marketing solution for wellness providers like spa owners, Pilates instructors, and massage therapists who hope to decrease acquisition costs and better understand consumers. For these wellness providers - which typically spend 15-25% of their annual budgets on marketing - traditional advertising vehicles such as print ads are expensive, not measurable, and don't offer the opportunity for community building.

"Health and wellness is a fast-growing category, but the businesses that provide wellness services such as spa treatments (http://www. innerrewards. com/destinations/paris/article/ir-paris-hottest-spas-306), Pilates, yoga, massage and more are woefully underserved from an online point of view," said Julie Elaine Brown, chief executive officer of InnerRewards. "We've heard from hundreds of local businesses that are frustrated with traditional advertising and not satisfied with current online options; they offer great services, but have a hard time educating consumers about their offerings. InnerRewards is a complete online marketing solution designed from the ground-up to help wellness providers connect with consumers in a meaningful and measurable way."

Online Marketing Solution for Wellness Providers:
InnerRewards offers the benefits of a targeted community and a place where business providers can:

-Reach new customers interested in health and wellness.

-Educate consumers on services and expertise.

-Decrease customer acquisition costs, increase customer loyalty, and increase number of e-commerce transactions.

-Participate in an open, community-focused dialogue with customers, while maintaining complete control over their brand message and aesthetic.

-Use sophisticated online marketing techniques that may otherwise seem out of reach including brand-focused social communities, search engine marketing, e-commerce, integrated merchandising, reward and loyalty programs.

-Collaborate and form partnerships with other wellness providers and complementary businesses.

-Track and measure the effectiveness of their online marketing efforts (social marketing, brand marketing, and lead-generation) for a clear ROI.

"InnerRewards is a unique wellness community where we can connect with exactly the type of customers we're hoping to attract," said Mika Street, owner of Uptown Pilates and Uptown Pilates on Madison. "The aesthetics of the site, the quality and depth of the content, and the whole focus on the wellness sector really set it apart from more generalized online communities and city listings services."

A Trusted Brand for Consumers:
InnerRewards is a single online destination where consumers can learn about various health and wellness topics, find and review businesses, connect with other sophisticated consumers, and buy wellness services and products. With InnerRewards, consumers can:

-Read high quality, original editorial content about health and wellness.

-View and set up personal topic pages, which are like turbo-charged Facebook pages.

-Start a discussion, participate in live chat, create a blog, and review or comment on articles, topics, businesses, and more.

-Upload videos and pictures, write articles, and create their own content.

-Purchase gift certificates and unique wellness packages and trips (including group trips).

-Earn rewards points for contributions to the site.

About InnerRewards:
InnerRewards is the first complete online wellness community and e-commerce platform that connects businesses with new and existing customers. Consumers interested in health and wellness can get information, connect with one another, and buy products and services, while wellness providers can reach new customers, build their brand, and drive sales via innovative and measurable online marketing techniques. The company was founded in 2008 by Julie Elaine Brown, former new media executive for Johnson & Johnson, and includes a team with experience at companies such as PayPal, Yahoo!, Apple, and Razorfish. “Experiencing Everything Together”… Corporate Retreats One Hour West of Toronto

“Experiencing Everything Together”… Corporate Retreats One Hour West of Toronto

Corporate “rafting retreats” is a fresh approach to team building and fun corporate incentive trips. By using guided 8 person rafts as the classroom… different settings, with different rules are created… thereby inviting the workplace roles to change. At the Grand River Rafting Company each corporate retreat is custom-designed to assist in skill set development, amenity services and budget considerations.

Paris, Ontario (PRWEB) August 31, 2006

Team building using leisure rafting is an excellent way for everyone on a management team to participate. The rafts require no skills… there are no tipping risks or size restrictions, everyone can play in safety. Yet, within the quest, leaders can become followers… there is the opportunity for different people to shine, and different people to be recognized.

With team-designated rafts versus canoes or kayaks… there is the distinct camaraderie of experiencing everything together. People are literally in the same boat… paddling the same direction… facing the same obstacles and consequences. This risk-free outdoor environment permits laughter over mistakes… with the opportunity to try again. There is a different spirit here. This is where community healthiness in the workplace begins. One day of this type of team building will not change the world, but it can gently shift “arthritic” thinking.

The selection of outdoor quests include such challenges as the Office Fishing Kit, A Cup of Tea Please, Who’s the Boss, the Floating Rock Race, and the Joe Bushman Quiz, all designed to peak the imagination and enhance the effectiveness of team effort. As well, other speakers and workshop topics that may be of interest as compliments to the ‘quests” can be profiled upon request.

Included with the rafting is experiencing the outdoors with short hikes, bold tastes of edible plants… and sips from fresh water springs. But the barbecues are best. On the banks of the Grand River corporate groups can enjoy a feast cooked by local chefs. The meals are a gourmet delight of marinated steak & chicken breast with all the works. Everyone can sit back and soak in the riverside scenery.

The uniqueness of visiting the Grand River Valley in Paris, Ontario is that many groups can get up in the morning, travel a short distance, be in the wilderness, and then be back in their own beds at night. This valley is only 10 minutes off the 403 Highway, just outside of Brantford or a half hour from the 401 Highway, just outside of Cambridge. The valley is one hour from Toronto, London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Hamilton, Burlington, Guelph or Woodstock.

Corporate groups coming from a further distance and/or looking for a multi-day getaway will find the Grand River Valley a perfect choice. There are meeting facilities, multi-outdoor adventures, great restaurants and excellent accommodations. The town of Paris is in a valley setting. It hosts a number of quaint shops and cafes along the river, and for the visiting spouses, a shopper’s delight.

A favorite overnight choice for small groups is the countryside setting of River Ridge Bed & Breakfast. This B&B in conjunction with the nearby golf course accommodations, also on the river, can host small groups of 8-10 with single occupancy, private baths, or double occupancy for couples. Larger corporate groups can stay at the beautifully restored Arlington Hotel in downtown Paris.

Whatever your group size, or corporate retreat needs, the Grand River Rafting Company will strive to prepare a customized package that you will talk about for years to come.

Corporate groups wishing more information can call the Brant County “River Line” in Paris, Ontario. Toll Free: 1-866-286-7722.
