Providers of CareOne Debt Relief Services Launch Debt Free U, Helping College Students Chart Financial Waters

Providers of CareOne Debt Relief Services (www. CareOneCredit. com), introduce a new website to provide money management resources for young adults (www. DebtFreeU. org).

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) August 19, 2009

College students and young consumers across the country now have access to education and financial tools designed expressly for their needs. This 100% free, non-commercial portal launched today, just in time for the start of a new school semester.

Debt Free U (http://www. debtfreeu. org) empowers young adults to master money management during this critical stage in their lives. With a full range of interactive tools and practical information on the issue that matters most to young consumers, Debt Free U helps college students face tough financial decisions with confidence. Online calculators, an extensive resource guide and blogs with the latest information help students cut through the financial jargon and get clear, simple information on how they can control their debt.

Additionally, Debt Free U established social media websites including Facebook (http://www. facebook. com/pages/Debt-Free-U/80888438246), Myspace (http://www. myspace. com/DebtFreeU) and Twitter @DebtFreeU (http://www. twitter. com/debtfreeu), to establish ongoing dialogue with the students and young consumers utilizing the site's resources.

Now more than ever, students need education and support to establish smart money management habits. According to a national study conducted by Sallie Mae, one of the nation's largest student loan providers, the average college student carries more than $3,000 in credit card debt on at least four credit cards, and close to one fifth of seniors carry balances of more than $7,000.

"College is a huge milestone for young people and the financial responsibilities incurred can seriously damage a student's financial health well beyond graduation," says Clarky Davis, CareOne Services' spokesperson. "With college tuition, rent, books and credit cards, it's no wonder so many college students find themselves in debt."

Having helped over 4.5 million people with their debt, CareOne Providers know that debt problems can happen to anyone. Too often, good financial management is a lesson that occurs too late in life and learned through personal hardship. Fortunately, some of these hardships can be alleviated with improved money management skills and by making informed financial decisions. CareOne wants to help consumers before the problem gets out of hand.

IRDF Funded School Student Wins a Spot on the India Team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics

IRDF Funded School Student Wins a Spot on the India Team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics

India Rural Development Fund (IRDF) announced today that Pranitha, a student from its grant partner - Rural Development Foundation (RDF) schools in India, won a spot on the Indian Olympic Archery team.

Fremont, CA (PRWEB) July 2, 2008

Ms. Pranitha Vardhineni, a student from the RDF School - Kalleda Village, Warangal District, Andhra Pradesh represented India and won a Silver medal at the World Junior Archery Championship in Mexico in 2006. Mr. A. Raju also from the same RDF school won the Bronze medal in the team event at the competition.

The two students have consistently excelled in the state and national archery competitions, while they were still in school. Seventeen (17) year-old Ms. Vardhineni was earlier placed in first place at the National Ranking Competition in Calcutta and Raju stood second. Ms. Vardhineni and Mr. Raju are products of the archery program started five years ago at the RDF school and coached by Prabhir Das, a former national archery champion. The school has since produced other young archers who went on to compete in state and national level championships.

RDF, a non-profit, provides highly subsidized education in rural India along with free mid-day meals to all students. In addition to the archery program the rigorous academic curriculum maintained by the school helped two students achieve the 1st and 2nd place at the regional level for the 10th class board exams in the past year. Ms. Vardhineni's and Mr. Raju's achievements are even more remarkable given the meager background they come from. Majority of these families survive on farming with an income of a $1 per day!

Toxicological Evaluation of a 112 Degrees Published in Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology

Toxicological Evaluation of a 112 Degrees Published in Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology

Article in Official Journal of the International Society of Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology Affirms Men’s Sexual Health Supplement’s Purity

Portland, Oregon (PRWEB) July 14, 2010

LIFE SPAN Labs, LLC today announced that an article featuring 112 Degrees™, entitled “Toxicological evaluation of a dietary supplement formulated for male sexual health prior to market release,” has been published in Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology, the Official Journal of the International Society for Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology. The article details the screening process for 112 Degrees to ensure the health supplement’s adherence to its labeling amid rampant problems with drug adulteration for its category of products.

With the growth of dietary supplement use, especially among those promoting enhancement of erectile function and sexual performance in men, many products are promoted with the assumption that they are safe and natural. However, reports to the contrary are increasing, in which adulterants including active pharmaceutical ingredients among other agents, have been discovered in certain products. According to the US Food and Drug Administration, the problem is widespread, with reports suggesting that more than one-third of herbal dietary supplements marketed for sexual enhancement purchased on the Internet are affected.

The article published in Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology details the comprehensive screening for active pharmaceutical agents, with an emphasis on drugs prescribed for erectile dysfunction, and known unapproved drug analogues. According to the article, “112 Degrees was found to be free of all pharmaceutical adulterants tested, and was not mutagenic, clastogenic, or genotoxic as demonstrated by the Ames test, chromosomal aberration assay, and mouse micronucleus assay, respectively.”

“We are driven by science and dedicated to producing a product specifically designed to support male sexual health that is all natural, safe and effective,” said Rod Tallman, CEO of LIFE SPAN labs. “With this article, as well as numerous other studies completed that support our product claims, we stand committed to ongoing research in order to guarantee that 112 Degrees is the highest quality all natural male sexual health supplement on the market.”

112 Degrees was developed by LIFE SPAN Labs to preserve and restore sexual health and performance in men using a proprietary blend of top quality, all natural ingredients formulated to support male sexual health, increase libido and promote vitality, including improved circulation, energy, and more. 112 Degrees is also formulated with super antioxidants and essential vitamins and minerals that support overall good health and a blend of herbs that have been used traditionally to enhance sexual performance including Tribulus terrestris fruit extract, Butea superba root and Panax ginseng.

Increased checks on doctors could help see a fall in clinical negligence cases

Increased checks on doctors could help see a fall in clinical negligence cases

The Government announces a £1 million fund to support the new proposals for performance checks on the 150,000 doctors on the medical register. MyClaim welcomes this increased regulation when it is estimated that close to a million people in the UK suffer unnecessarily as a result of the negligence of health care professionals, every year.

(PRWEB) October 15, 2008

It has been reported this month that the Government will announce a £1 million fund to support the new proposals for performance checks on the 150,000 doctors on the medical register.

It is proposed that doctors are to face annual competence tests, and that those who do not perform adequately will have their license to practice medicine withdrawn. Furthermore, doctors will be required to renew their practising licenses every five years. The President of the General Medical Council, Sir Graeme Catto, has described the proposals as "the biggest change to medical regulation in 150 years". The new scheme is designed to remove doctors from practice that repeatedly fail to meet standards of competence, and in turn raise standards of medical practice in the UK.

Sir Liam Donaldson, the government's Chief Medical officer, who has set out the new plans will appoint a team of doctors to decide how best to implement the new proposals, and the scheme will be piloted early in 2009. Under the new system senior doctors will assess other doctors in their area of practice, to ensure that they meet standards. Patents will also be involved in the process and will be asked how their doctor communicates with them.

MyClaim can only welcome this increased regulation of doctors and the government's financial commitment to the scheme; when it is estimated that close to a million people in the UK suffer unnecessarily as a result of the negligence of health care professionals, every year. These cases arise from a variety of circumstances and examples include among others misdiagnoses, the administering of incorrect doses of drugs, surgical errors, lack of consent, breakdown in communication, birthing problems and falls. MyClaim hopes that the annual competence tests will lead to a drop in medical negligence claims (http://www. mycompensationclaim. co. uk/content/medical-negligence-compensation-claims) within the personal injury (http://www. mycompensationclaim. co. uk) sector.

Whist MyClaim acknowledges that a balance must be struck between the strict regulation of doctors and allowing them the freedom to take necessary risks, so as to avoid defensive medicine; incompetence is clearly unacceptable, and it considers that these changes can only benefit medicine within the UK.

If you are unfortunate enough to be or have been the victim of clinical negligence, you may wish to bring a claim for compensation (http://www. mycompensationclaim. co. uk). Clinical negligence cases are inherently complex in nature and it is imperative that you instruct the right solicitors to give your claim the best chance of success.

You need to make sure that your claim will be handled by a firm of solicitors with a highly acclaimed clinical negligence team. You should also ensure that the team of solicitors handling your case will include lawyers both qualified in law and medicine, who's inside knowledge is invaluable.

Finally, look for representation that can offer their clients No Win No Fee Solicitors (http://www. mycompensationclaim. co. uk) on the basis that guarantees the claimant will receive 100% of the compensation.

IBS Self Help Group reacts to withdrawal of Lotronex by Glaxo Wellcome

IBS Self Help Group reacts to withdrawal of Lotronex by Glaxo Wellcome

(PRWEB) December 7, 2000

Many Lotronex users view the withdrawal as having a very negative impact on their lives

TORONTO, Ontario, Dec 5 - The Irritable Bowel Syndrome Self Help Group, (www. ibsgroup. org), has received an unprecedented number of requests for help from Lotronex users due to Glaxo Wellcome's announcement that, at the request of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it will voluntarily withdraw Lotronex, its treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), from the US market. Many have written that they have been driven to despair and cannot imagine going back to the way it was prior to taking Lotronex.

A member of the IBS Self Help Group wrote "I am one of many people whose lives were changed when I tried Lotronex. This is after literally 30 years with IBS. Nothing worked for me, and I had tried it all. I remember the feeling of let down I had every time I left the gastroenterology office, and I was given nothing knew. Lotronex radically changed my body and my life. I became more sociable and responsible at work, enjoyed eating more, and had a rosier future when I planned trips that I would not have taken otherwise."

Members of the IBS Group have written to the FDA and spoken directly to Glaxo in an effort to tell them the positive effects of the drug. Many write that with the right adjustment to their own dosage of Lotronex that they were able to prevent, or control, the primary side-effect of constipation. The Public Citizen, a nationwide consumer organization which petitioned the FDA to remove Lotronex from the market, suggested to the FDA that "the adverse reactions tip the risk-benefit equation against using the drug." They characterized IBS "as a poorly defined disease although capable of causing significant distress in some individuals," which upset many members as being very dismissive of an illness which affects their everyday life.

The IBS Self Help Group undertook a Lotronex survey on IBSwatch. com (www. ibswatch. com) to capture members experiences with the drug and their reaction to the FDA's request to have Lotronex withdrawn. Survey takers overwhelmly indicated that they benefited from Lotronex and oppose Glaxo Wellcome's decision to withdraw Lotronex.

"I understand that expert counsel from a number of gastroenterologists believed that Lotronex had an unacceptable risk/benefit ratio and this was taken into consideration by Glaxo prior to voluntarily withdrawing the drug," said Jeffrey Roberts, President and Founder ofthe Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Self Help Group. Mr. Roberts continues, "The withdrawal is a regrettable situation given the apparent thousands of women who have benefited from Lotronex. Safety is paramount and must always be considered, however, I urge the FDA and Glaxo to continue discussions about Lotronex and make decisions for or against the use of it in the face of further investigations."

About the Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Self Help Group:

The IBS Self Help Group is the premier internet self help health site about Irritable Bowel Syndrome, with more than 200,000 Bulletin Board member postings about the functional gastrointestinal disorder Irritable Bowel Syndrome and largest provider of health related information for sufferers of IBS.

IBD Insurance Announces Increasing Dental Benefits and Decreasing Premiums on NC Dental Plans

IBD Insurance Announces Increasing Dental Benefits and Decreasing Premiums on NC Dental Plans

Blue Cross Blue Shield North Carolina dental plans will now pay 100% of preventative care costs and a larger percentage of basic dental services while decreasing policy holder premiums.

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) December 10, 2007

While many health and dental insurance rates are increasing for 2008, IBD Insurance Services, a BCBSNC Authorized Agency with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, announces that its dental plans will now offer more coverage at a lower premium.

"In this industry, we rarely see an increase in benefits along with a decrease in rates. BCBSNC is constantly striving for ways to give more back to their policy holders," says Andrea Hunnicutt Grater, NC insurance agent with IBD (http://www. ibdinsurance. com (http://www. ibdinsurance. com)).

Previously, the BCBSNC dental plans covered 80% of preventative care costs such as teeth cleanings and x-rays. With the new changes, preventative care will now be covered at a full 100%.

Additionally, basic services such as fillings and simple extractions that were previously covered at a rate of 50% by insurance will now be covered at 60%.

Instead of a price increase for the additional dental insurance benefits, premiums for BCBSNC dental insurance will decrease by several dollars.

"This change in the benefits structure is a wonderful opportunity for those who wish to improve their overall health - including their dental health - to do so affordably in 2008," says Grater.

About IBD Insurance Services: IBD Insurance (http://www. ibdinsurance. com (http://www. ibdinsurance. com)), a BCBSNC Authorized Agency with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, provides individual and group health insurance for those in the Raleigh North Carolina area. Social Good: Wpromote Inc. Helps Raise $250K for CureJM Through Pepsi Refresh Project

Social Good: Wpromote Inc. Helps Raise $250K for CureJM Through Pepsi Refresh Project

Through a robust Social Media campaign, Los Angeles based Online and Search Marketing Firm, Wpromote, helped Raise $250K in Grant Funding for CureJM (Juvenile Mytosis) through Pepsi Refresh Everything project.

Los Angeles, CA (Vocus) November 8, 2010

A few years ago, an employee of Wpromote’s younger sister Ivy, age 8, was diagnosed with Juvenile Myositis (JM). JM is a rare disease that only 3 million children are diagnosed with annually. This year, Pepsi Refresh Project offered grant money to the top vote receivers through their online initiative. Wpromote was tasked with getting new people to vote, as well as past voters to vote daily, in effort to help raise money for research for the CureJM Foundation.

“When the employee and his father approached us, they were in third place, but needed to be in first to receive $250k in grant funding. We were not only touched by the story, but excited for the opportunity to use our expertise in social media for an important cause,” said Jamie Lane, Director of Marketing for Wpromote. In the final weeks of the campaign, Wpromote targeted young adults by sharing Ivy’s story and sending them to the CureJM’s Refresh Everything page by strategic promotion via Twitter, Facebook, and email blasts. Through this robust social media campaign, CureJM received the most votes, putting it in first place, raising $250k of grant funding for CureJM.

How will the 250K be used? $169,000 is going directly to the JM Center of Excellence Support; $70,000 towards Genome Study, and $11,000 to the Pilot Study in Cardiovascular Risk Factors for Patients with JDM.

Pepsi Refresh Project

In an effort to support those who generate innovative, optimistic ideas, the Pepsi Refresh Project will award more than $20 million in 2010 to move communities forward. Individuals can apply for grants to benefit a variety of projects and site visitors can vote for the best ideas for funding. The Pepsi Refresh Project is an evolution of the Refresh Everything initiative Pepsi launched in 2009, which showed the brand as an optimistic catalyst for idea creation, leading to an ever-refreshing world. Pepsi will fund projects that make a difference in six categories: Health, Arts & Culture, Food & Shelter, The Planet, Neighborhoods, and Education.

Franchisee Satisfaction Ratings Show Growing Concern Of Financial Downturn

Franchisee Satisfaction Ratings Show Growing Concern Of Financial Downturn

Topfranchise. com. au has today released the results of its first quarterly review into the satisfaction of Australia's franchisees, revealing a growing concern in the industry over the impact the financial downturn is likely to have on small business.

Sydney, NSW (PRWEB) January 30, 2009

topfranchise. com. au (http://www. topfranchise. com. au) has today released the results of its first quarterly review into the satisfaction of Australia's franchisees, revealing a growing concern in the industry over the impact the financial downturn is likely to have on small business.

Incorporating feedback from over 1,000 franchisees from 65 systems across Australia, the latest results show that the tightening economy is affecting business sentiment, with average ratings for most franchise systems down compared to the previous quarter.

Franchisee satisfaction ratings for financial services businesses have been hardest hit by a loss of confidence in the economy. However, some businesses including those offering healthcare, small luxuries and affordable family dining have been well placed in the current economic environment to maintain and even improve overall franchisee satisfaction.

Ian Krawitz, Head of Intelligence 10 THOUSAND FEET and founder of topfranchise. com. au, said the drop in franchisee satisfaction was not surprising given the current economic climate: "This initial dip in franchisee satisfaction is in no way indicative of a loss of confidence in the franchising sector as a whole."

"Our survey takes into account seven different indicators of franchisee satisfaction, and while opinion on financial rewards has obviously dipped, other areas have held steady. For example, passion for the business and interest in renewing franchise agreements have increased significantly as franchisees realise that they are in a good situation compared to those facing redundancy," said Krawitz.

Affordable family dining is one example of a potential growth area in the current economic climate, and Souvlakihut is an operator currently surfing the value wave with a kids eat free offer that started as a trial in Victoria, but will soon be rolled out to other states. However, customer numbers are not the only indicator of success, with Krawitz pointing to Souvlakihut's commitment to high levels of franchisee support as being key in retaining its number one placing.

Heading the list of those chasing Souvlakihut's crown include new comers to the Top 10; aged and disability care franchise Just Better Care, mobile car cleaning and detailing business Car Care, professional equipment supplier Snap-on Tools and appliance rental service Mr Rental.

Drive-through coffee franchise (http://www. topfranchise. com. au/Coffee-Franchise/) Muzz Buzz, and women-only gym chain Fernwood Fitness also broke into the Top 10 for the first time, while gourmet cookie retailer Mrs Fields, Mortgage Choice and ANZ Mobile Lending services all retained Top 10 positions in the new rankings.

"Franchises which offer value driven products or services, such as Souvlakihut and Mr Rental; and those that offer small luxuries such as a Muzz Buzz are doing well in this climate," said Krawitz. "It's also clear that some sectors are relatively immune to an economic downturn, with socio-demographic trends dictating that healthcare businesses like Just Better Care still have room to grow."

Topfranchise. com. au launched in October 2008, and is a free online service which rates Australia's best franchise business opportunities (http://www. topfranchise. com. au/) based on the feedback of their own franchisees.

Notes to editors:
Topfranchise. com. au is a free consumer service, supported by subscription fees paid by franchisors. It allows users to benchmark franchisors against average industry performance across seven categories and provides links to franchisor websites, news articles, video profiles & testimonials. Ratings in each category are updated quarterly, based on the results of 10 THOUSAND FEET's ongoing Franchisee Satisfaction Surveys.

The seven categories taken into account by topfranchise. com. au include;
Renewal: intention of franchisees to renew their agreement beyond the current term  Recommendation: willingness to recommend a franchise to friends and colleagues  Rewards: level of financial & social rewards franchisees feel they receive  Lifestyle: whether franchisees are satisfied with the lifestyle their franchise affords them  Passion: how passionate franchisees are about the brand, product or service they offer  Support: examining levels of support offered by the franchisor  Opportunities: whether franchisees feel there are opportunities to expand their business within the system

The new topfranchise. com. au Top 10 is as follows:

Current Position Business Name (Previous Position)
1 Souvlakihut (1)
2  Just Better Care (New Entry)
3 Car Care (New Entry)
4 Snap-On Tools (New Entry)
5 Mr Rental (12)
6  Muzz Buzz (13)
7 Mrs Fields (9)
8 Mortgage Choice (7)
9 Fernwood Fitness (11)
10 ANZ Mobile Lending (8)

New Research Reveals Surprising Lifetime Risk of Economic Insecurity Among Americans

New Research Reveals Surprising Lifetime Risk of Economic Insecurity Among Americans

Researchers developing website that will allow individuals to assess their personal economic risk

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) May 25, 2008

Recent economic events have shaken the confidence of many Americans with respect to their ability to achieve the "American dream." "With rising numbers of home foreclosures, job cuts, and loss of savings, more Americans are encountering severe periods of economic risk and insecurity in their lives," says Mark R. Rank, Ph. D., poverty expert and professor of social work at Washington University in St. Louis.

Rank's work is shedding a new light on the amount of economic risk that Americans face across their lifetimes. His work has shown that the likelihood of economic turmoil during one's adulthood is exceedingly high, and has been rising over the past three decades.

For example, Rank's research on the chances of encountering poverty has demonstrated that between the ages of 20 and 75, roughly three-quarters of all Americans will experience at least one year in poverty or near poverty. Even more surprising, two-thirds of Americans between the ages of 20 and 65 will, at some point, turn to a welfare program such as food stamps, and 40 percent of Americans will use a welfare program in five or more separate years during their working age adulthood. Additional analyses have shown that the life course risk of poverty has risen sharply from the 1970s to the 1990s.

Rank's current research on homeownership has also revealed substantial turmoil in the lives of Americans. Although the vast majority of Americans will eventually buy a home -- Rank estimates that by age 40, 83 percent of Americans have purchased a home -- nearly 40 percent of these homeowners will lose their homeowner status within 10 years of the time of purchase. The recent home mortgage crisis has revealed substantial financial risk among American homeowners, and Rank's life course work provides actual estimates of the amount of economic insecurity embedded within the dream of homeownership in America.

Another area of research that Rank, along with his collaborator at Cornell University, Tom Hirschl, has been investigating, is whether Americans have saved enough to get them through these periods of economic turmoil. Preliminary data analysis indicates that up to one half of all Americans will not have enough liquid assets to keep them out of poverty for three months should they suddenly lose their job.

Based on these and other analyses, Rank and Hirschl are developing a first-of-its-kind computer program and Web site that will allow Americans to estimate their degree of potential economic risk. The program will be analogous to current medical programs that allow individuals to calculate the likelihood of encountering a particular health risk such as heart disease.

"This program will not only allow individuals the capability to see into their economic future, but it will also allow them to understand the extent to which they might lower their risk by engaging in certain behaviors, such as acquiring more education," Rank says.

Rank and Hirschl are currently putting together a book on economic insecurity and the American dream that will be forthcoming with Oxford University Press.

"All of this work is shedding light on the fragility of the 'American dream' and what we can do to restore its viability," Rank says.

The George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis aims to create positive social change through its path-breaking research and educational excellence. The Brown School's international community of faculty, students, and graduates works throughout St. Louis, across the country, and worldwide to apply new knowledge and use the best available evidence to impact policy, practice, and service delivery. The Brown School, which offers a doctoral degree, a master of social work degree, as well as seven dual-degree programs, is home to five research centers:

Victim of Circumcision Takes Own Life

Victim of Circumcision Takes Own Life

The National Organization of Circumcision Information Resources Centers sadly reports the death of David Reimer, 38, who took his own life in Winnipeg last week.

(PRWEB) May 14, 2004

David, originally named Bruce, suffered the tragic loss of his penis after a medically unnecessary circumcision caused by physician ignorance of normal penile development in childhood. Psychologists recommended that he be castrated and raised as a female. He was renamed Brenda. At puberty, he was given feminizing hormones to promote breast development and was to be subjected to sex-reassignment surgery, but an attempted suicide caused his father to tell him the truth about his true gender and the botched circumcision. Upon being told, his first question was “What was my name?”

This experiment, an attempt to overcome nature by nurturing the child into another gender proved to be a disastrous failure. When he discovered his true identity, he insisted that he wanted to live as a male, and he chose the name David. He had a double mastectomy and surgery to construct a phallus. He later married and adopted his wifeÂ’s children.

Author John Colapinto wrote As Nature Made Him: The Boy Who Was Raised as a Girl, revealing DavidÂ’s tragic experience to the world. His horrific story has helped to reform medical practice.

David Reimer had the courage to appear on several talk shows, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, where his healthy and robust twin brother was introduced as a member of the audience.

His life took a turn for the worst in recent years. The death of his twin brother and a divorce weighed on his mind, in addition to the undoubted tragedy of his own life caused by the circumcision. He resolved to end a life of unrelenting pain.

David managed to triumph by reclaiming his gender and, by telling his story, protecting others from similar tragedy. He was an inspiration to us all. He long will be remembered as an example of the risk of terrible mutilation caused by circumcision.

OnCore® Version 10.0 Brings it all Together for the Clinical Research Enterprise

OnCore® Version 10.0 Brings it all Together for the Clinical Research Enterprise

This year’s release of the OnCore Clinical and Translational Research Software, Version 10.0, represents thousands of hours of development effort and incorporates work done in eight collaborative projects with research organizations around the country.

Madison, Wis. (Vocus) April 5, 2010

This year’s release of the OnCore Clinical and Translational Research Software, Version 10.0, represents thousands of hours of development effort and incorporates work done in eight collaborative projects with research organizations around the country.

“Of course we’re continuously working to improve OnCore and every new version we release reflects that,” said Anthony O’Hare, PhD, Chief Scientific Officer at PercipEnz Technologies, Inc., creators of OnCore. “What we’re especially excited about with this version is bringing together the work that has been going on in several collaborative initiatives and making it available to all the OnCore centers.”

Much of the new functionality being rolled out with Version 10.0 was previously only available to those research centers who were participating in specific collaborative initiatives. OnCore product development is heavily guided by these projects in which dedicated individuals from various centers devote their time and energy into planning, implementing and evaluating new functionality. One such project focuses on study financials management.

“Control of, and access to, real-time financials data continues to be top of mind for our centers,” said O’Hare. “We devoted an entire team of developers to refining this functionality and delivering more tools for Version 10.0.”

Removing barriers was another key focus in OnCore’s development over the past year. New functionality in OnCore includes support for multi-center trials, a new Affiliate Network Administration portal, enhanced communication and reporting tools, and additions to the OnCore Software Developers Toolkit (SDK) for integration with other systems such as those for electronic IRB management.

But not all of the enhancements in OnCore Version 10.0 are about new functionality.

“OnCore is a mature product – it has been around for 10 years, after all. Because of this, we’re able to pay attention to some of the finer points, too,” said Srini Kalluri, President & CEO of PercipEnz. “I think OnCore users are going to appreciate all of the enhancements around personalization, workflow, and streamlining data entry that went into this version.”

The OnCore platform is the product of PercipEnz Technologies, Inc., a software development company specializing in clinical and translational research informatics for midsized to large organizations. The nation's most widely adopted clinical trials management system (CTMS) among academic research organizations and cancer centers, the OnCore platform is the result of a decade of experience working closely with large research organizations, including many world-class NCI designated cancer centers and institutes funded by the National Institute of Health's Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) program.

OnCore-CRM offers a comprehensive set of modules for managing all aspects of clinical research:
Protocol & Subject Life Cycle Management  Subject Safety Management  Protocol & Subject Calendar Management  Study Financials Management  Electronic Data Capture and Data Management  Paperless Committee Management with ePRMS  Study Information Portal  Custom Reporting Technology

The fully integrated OnCore-BSM product supports all aspects of biospecimen and biorepository management:

Inventory Management  Annotation Management  Requisition & Distribution Management  Correlative Study Sample Management  Flexible Reporting Capabilities

Employee Engagement Nosedives as Exhaustion Hits the U. S. Workforce

Employee Engagement Nosedives as Exhaustion Hits the U. S. Workforce

Modern Survey’s National Study Shows Clear Decrease in U. S Workers’ Engagement.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) March 24, 2010

After a year of upward trending engagement scores, Modern Survey (http://www. modernsurvey. com)’s latest study on employee engagement in the U. S. workforce shows a precipitous decline in workers’ psychological investment in their organizations. While the economic recession may have temporarily motivated employees to put forth extra effort on the job, the latest data from this scientific study suggests U. S. workers may have hit their breaking point, as all five components of Modern Survey’s Employee Engagement Index are now trending downward.

Modern Survey began tracking the engagement of the U. S. workforce using nationwide samples of U. S. workers in August 2007, before the recession started. In August 2008, when the economic crisis was well underway, clear drops in all five components of Modern Survey’s Employee Engagement Index were recorded. Employee engagement then rallied from August 2008 to August 2009, eclipsing pre-recession levels. Now, after a year of increasing employee effort, sacrifices to ensure employment and increased alignment with organizational goals, the trend has broken. The most significant declines are statistically significant six percentage point drops in the number of workers who say they “take pride in their company,” (from 79% in August 2009 to 73% in February 2010) and “intend to stay with their company for a long time” (from 63% in August 2009 to 57% in February 2010).

At a recent Modern Survey Executive Roundtable event, employee engagement experts and senior leaders in Human Resources from some of the largest companies in the U. S. weighed in on the findings. The group came to the consensus that the strain of the economic recession has likely left workers feeling depleted of energy.

Nancy Hanna, President of HR Executive Forum (http://www. hrexecutiveforum. org/) and Vice President of Chandler Group (http://www. chandgroup. com/), worries that continuous pressure to do more with less is not only unsustainable, but it’s also unhealthy.

“We passed up the Japanese a couple years ago in general productivity and hours worked, and I remember they used to have a special word in Japanese for 'death by overwork' (Karoshi)…if you throw yourself against the wall, month after month, year after year, with no immediate end in sight, people are going to get sick.”

As organizations strive to combat this sense of fatigue in their workforce, paying attention to the key drivers of employee engagement may prove to be more important than ever. The results of this study should serve as a wake-up call to organizational leaders who may have been preoccupied with other matters in recent months, or who still do not fully grasp just how critical creating and sustaining high levels of employee engagement is to the performance, and even survival, of their business in the long run.

As Barbara Shaw, EVP, Director of Corporate HR for TCF Financial Corporation (http://www. tcfbank. com/) put it, “Keeping people engaged is just good management.”

Bruce Campbell, Senior Consultant at Modern Survey, believes that if companies do only one thing right now in regards to employee engagement, it should be to express sincere appreciation for employees and recognition of their contributions, and it should come from the organization’s most senior leaders first, then repeated and reinforced by managers at all levels.

See the full results from this study at: http://modernsurvey. com/news/?p=457 (http://modernsurvey. com/news/?p=457)

About the Study
Through national surveys, Modern Survey tracks employee engagement using five questions that gauge the extent to which employees: take pride in their company, believe they have a promising future at their company, recommend their company as a great place to work, go “above and beyond” their normal job duties to help their company succeed, and intend to stay with their company. Modern Survey began posing these questions in August 2007 to nationally representative samples of 1,000 U. S. adults (18+ years old) who match census data in terms of age, gender, and region. This measure was repeated in August 2008, February 2009, August 2009, and most recently in February 2010 to monitor employee engagement in a scientifically sound fashion, and to document how engagement levels have changed nationally over time in response to changing economic and social conditions.

Green Building is Growing Rapidly in Every Region of the World, According to New Report from McGraw-Hill Construction

Green Building is Growing Rapidly in Every Region of the World, According to New Report from McGraw-Hill Construction

McGraw-Hill Construction releases first ever global-scale green building market research report at China Green Building and Energy Efficiency Conference in Shanghai.

Shanghai, China (PRWEB) September 29, 2008

McGraw-Hill Construction (MHC), part of The McGraw-Hill Companies (NYSE: MHP), today released the first-ever global look at green building market trends in a new SmartMarket Report, Global Green Building Trends: Market Growth and Perspectives from Around the World (http://construction. ecnext. com/coms2/summary_0249-294702_ITM_analytics). Key findings from the report, which covers market activity, key triggers and obstacles, and trends in renewable energy driving green building in seven regions around the world, were presented today at MHC's 2008 Green Building & Energy Efficiency International Conference (http://construction. com/events/GreenBuilding/) at the Shanghai World Financial Center.

Produced in partnership with the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC), the report is based on a survey of early market adopters in 45 countries. Major findings include:
By 2013, 53% of responding firms expect to be largely dedicated to green building (on over 60% of projects), up from 30% today. The fastest growing regional green building market is Asia, where the population of firms largely dedicated to green building is expected to jump from 36% today to 73% in 2013. 86% of firms expect rapid or steady growth in sales and profit levels associated with green building. Solar power is the most common form of renewable energy in every region, used by over half (52%) of industry professionals today and expected to grow to 76% in the next five years. The most dramatic growth is expected in wind power use (57% expected in 2013, up from 20% today), followed closely by geothermal power (expected to double from 22% today to 45% in 2013). "The right thing to do" is the top business reason driving green building around the world. "Supporting the domestic economy" is prominent in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East/North Africa, while "environmental regulations" are driving market activity in Asia and Europe.

"Green building has truly become a global movement," said Harvey M. Bernstein, McGraw-Hill Construction vice president of Industry Analytics, Alliances and Strategic Initiatives. "Firms around the world are awakening to the positive business, environmental and societal impacts of green building, and there is a growing need for market intelligence about global and regional trends. The level and nature of market activity varies by region, but overall we are seeing widespread growth as green becomes increasingly visible throughout the global marketplace."

"It's important to recognize that buildings and infrastructure globally contribute 40% of the green house gas emissions that are forcing climate change," said Andrew Bowerbank, World Green Building Council executive director. "This is more than what the transportation or manufacturing sectors contribute. It is critical now that industry leaders recognize current environmental opportunities in the marketplace and begin to collaborate to demonstrate effective solutions."

Hospitals Find New Ways To Ease The Nursing Crisis

Hospitals Find New Ways To Ease The Nursing Crisis

Voalté iPhone Application Improves Critical Communication At Point-Of-Care

Sarasota, Fla. (PRWEB) December 1, 2009

Nationwide, nurse workloads have increased due to staffing shortages resulting in dissatisfaction levels among nurses that are three to five times higher than the average worker. Nurses simply lack the time to do what they joined the profession to do - provide quality patient care. Today nurses spend so much time chasing down information that their career becomes frustrating.

In the report titled, "What works, healing the healthcare staffing shortage", Dr. David Pryor, senior vice president at Ascension Health says, "There is a component of communication and teamwork that must be present in the environment in order to provide high-quality care and retain staff. Nurses are providing frontline care and nurse turnover is directly related to effective communication on the floor."

"It's time consuming when you're called and someone else could have taken care of the problem. You spend so much time chasing down information," said Danielle Reed, Charge Nurse at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. "There's always an issue of nurses not having enough time for bedside care."

A solution is on the horizon.

Trey Lauderdale, Vice President of Innovation at Voalté (http://http;//www. voalte. com), was working for Emergin (recognized as a pioneer and market leader in alarm management and automated event notification solutions for healthcare facilities) as the Southeast Regional Sales Manager when he witnessed the plight of discouraged nurses. He observed the nurses having to cover more ground and spending too much time searching for information, and thought, "With today's technology, there must be a better solution."

"Clear and accurate communication is crucial to delivering high quality patient care," said Lauderdale. "I knew there had to be a better way. I wanted to provide a complete communication solution at the point-of-care (http://http;//www. voalte. com) on one mobile platform."

As an early iPhone adopter, Lauderdale recognized the potential of integrating the device into the hospital environment. He was certain an innovative communication platform such as the iPhone would improve point-of-care communication and put the information they spend so much time seeking right in the palm of their hand. Lauderdale's vision became a reality with the introduction of the Voalté One Solution which provides voice, alarm and text services all on one device at the point of care. The solution allows clinicians to spend more time providing patient care and less time searching for elusive information.

In June, Voalté launched a pilot program as part of its development partnership with Sarasota Memorial Hospital in which nurses could give immediate and direct feedback to the company via the iPhones. The hospital staff worked closely with the Voalté team to gauge the success of the solution, including how easily the nurses adapted to carrying and using iPhones.

"The nurses have embraced the technology and have given us great feedback," said P. J. Floyd, Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. "The Voalté One (http://http;//www. voalte. com) makes them better able to respond quickly to patient's needs."

An unanticipated benefit of the Voalté One pilot program was a dramatic reduction in intercom chatter. The results of a private study after the implementation of the Voalté application at Sarasota Memorial revealed a 78 percent reduction in overhead paging.

"I would absolutely recommend the Voalté solution. Noise reduction is a huge factor," said Reed. "Before Voalté, we had to overhead page whenever the phone rang. Now we can quietly and quickly text the right person without disrupting the patients."

"It's not just wireless telephones for nurses. It's not just two-way paging," said Lauderdale. "Voalté is redefining communications at point of care, enhancing nurse satisfaction, and giving them more time to do what they love - taking care of patients."

Seniors Feel Healthier than Baby Boomers

Seniors Feel Healthier than Baby Boomers

Compared to others their own age, Seniors feel healthier than Baby Boomers. That was one of the surprising findings from a recent online survey of over 500 Baby Boomers and Seniors conducted by 50Plus Research www.50PlusResearch. com.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 28, 2007

Americans generally assume that as they age they will feel less and less healthy. They will "Feel their age." In fact, the opposite is true. According to a recent survey of over 500 Baby Boomers and Seniors conducted by 50Plus Research, a market research company specializing in the Baby Boomer and Senior market.

Seniors feel healthier than Baby Boomers. (http://www.50PlusResearch. com)
Compared to their friends, Seniors feel very healthy. In fact, 37% of Seniors feel that "My health is much better than most people my age." But only 20% of Boomers feel this way. Why?

We feel healthier as we age. (http://www.50PlusResearch. com)
As we age, we come to accept our own health problems. We get used to them and they don't seem "too bad." But we don't minimize the physical decline we see in those around us. We hear the complaints of our friends and loved ones as they age, and we say to ourselves "I'm doing better than they are." And by comparison, we feel healthy.

I'm in great shape -- but my husband's a wreck. (http://www.50PlusResearch. com)
Unfortunately, this self perception of good health, doesn't include our spouse. Seniors believe that they are in much better shape than their spouse. While 37% think they're in great shape. Only 23% think their spouse is in great shape. We see their health problems much more clearly than we see our own.

Self perception is king.
So the moral of the story is that as we grow older we should all have a little more tolerance for the health problems of those around us. As it turns out, we look as bad to them, as they look to us.
